Hey guys,
Does anybody know if WiFi Direct is working on gingerbread?
I can't find a cooked ROM with this capability.
Wifi cast lite
There is a work around for this called WiFi Cast Lite ...just Google it and you can find it ....just like WiFi direct you need this app in both the devices to do the transfer....
The process is to enable hostspot on one device and connect to that hotspot using the other device and you are connected....then u can use the app to transfer the files ....

FC on HTC Explorer everytime
Totinsky, WiFi Direct was officially implemented by Android in ICS, but it sucks huge lemons and it crashes the phone all the time. WiFi Direct was finally stabilized in Jelly Bean (thanks to a certain little company). There is no official support in anything pre-ICS, I'm sorry to say. On another note, if you happen to get JB, we are building a proximity P2P file sharing app that uses WiFi Direct. The app is called Drop, and it is a simple, fast, and secure way to share files with people/devices in proximity. We are going into a limited Private Beta soon, so if you're up for the challenge, (and running Jelly Bean) then sign up at www.get-drop.com. Seats are limited, and we have a rolling enrollment, so check it out.
Hi,
I got an sgs (jvb 2.3.3) and i travel a lot with a friend who got one too (jpk 2.2.1). We play a lot on starfront collision but it requiers to be on the same wifi network to host/join. We tried to use the mobile access point to be able to play but the creator of the access point is not part of the network.
Does there is a way to create an ad hoc wifi network between 2 sgs (or other phones )?
The only solution we found was to use an iCrap as access point so we can play.
Hope it is possible so we ll be able to play on train/car/or anywhere else without access point.
Sent from a phone (yes this thing is a phone...) using XDA App
Some news:
It seems there is no app that can do ad hoc connections BUT some guys tried to make it possible.
http://code.google.com/p/adhoc-on-android/
Basically this is a little addon like our wpa_supplicant but this one does ad hoc connection.
It needs tiwlan.ini to run (which is provided) but our SGS does not support that kind of configuration.
To sum up:
It is possible to create ad hoc connections on android using this stuff.
It doesnt work on SGS (everything starts fine but because of tiwlan.ini it does nothing)
Any ideas?
I dont know if it is possible to re-configure the wireless card using android terminal (just like we do on linux) to create an ad hoc connection but I will try to investigate this way.
On my HTC Magic cyanogen ROM allows ad hoc usage.
On stock Google Android, it's disabled (you can do it but not easily ...)
Perhaps you could ask in the Cyanogen thread if ad hoc is working for the SGS.
Guys
I'm giving the Galaxy Tab to an elder and may need to perform some maintenance or help out over the phone. I'd like to see what's on their screen (the Galaxy will always be connected via Wifi) - similar to how I can RDP into a Windows computer.
Is this possible to do with an app?
Search the market, as there are a few rdt and vnc apps.

wht is that how to use it????
well..
it is in the Wireless settings section. i guess you should use L2 IPSec.
briefly: have to set up a VPN server/connection point at home or wherever, and you'll connect to that from anywhere given that there's an open outbound port to the internet where you are currently. than a connection will be built up creating a "tunnel" through which your packets will be transferred to the VPN host where itt could be routed and NAT-ed to the internet unrestricted.
adding IPSec or other methods of encryptions will make your connection secure.
i've never tried it on my phone but since its based on linux it must be the same way as at desktop system.
you should check documents and howtos on the internet and check for apps at Market if the androids builtin is not satisfying!

If you go to Network and Sharing Center select your internet conection, properties, sharing, allow other network users..., and then choose your wifi connection. I think that should work
