Unfamous Apps which deserves heads up.. - Xoom Themes and Apps

Guys
Browsing market and hunting apps is a hobby of mine.
I want to share some of them i find very useful.
You might know them or not..
Dice player-Paid
Very smooth and plays everything. Xvid, Divx, Mkv, wmv, everything. With ES File Explorer Lan mode it plays network video files without downloading.
Better Cut-Free at market
Creates shortcuts at homescreen with custom names but most importantly custom icons from various file types WITHOUT shrinking them smaller then original icon size.
Multiling Keyboard-Free at market
Amazing keyboard with almost every language support and handwriting. It even supports split keyboard mode and lots of themes. Typo check etc, etc.
Set Dns-Free at market
I mentioned about this before. A tiny app for setting your DNS proxy. Super easy to use.
LCD Density-Free at market
Changes the resolution of your xoom (and other android devices).
I dont know what is my resolution now. Defoult is 160, mine is 140. I tried as low as 130 and it still works but i liked 140 better. Works without any performance or any other problems so far. Lots of extra screen estate. ( if you created shortcuts with Better Cut before bumping up the res, those shortcuts stays at the same size but names get cropped at bottom. Renewing the shortcuts solves the problem)
App Backup & Restore-Free at market
I have problems with Titanium. When i backup with titanium, after wipes Titanium cant restore my apps. Data yes.. Apps no. I dont know why.
So i find this one. It backups all apps and restores them without a problem.
Then i use Titanium for restoring the app data and xoom goes just like before the wipe.
Thats about it for now.
I avoided to mention about the "famous" ones and tried to underline the ones i didnt heard about anywhere.
I hope it helps someone

Thanks! Installed multiling keyboard and seems pretty nice! Like being able to change keyboard size, theme, etc. Handwriting recognition looks promising. Will need to check it out more!

I took a photo of a womens magazine while I was on the John, and it just seems to scan words not so much the actual picture, I even snapped one of a hair blow dryer and still just looked for words.
I tried it on pretty much everything of the proposed categories, usually worked very well.
Now I just photographed a full A4 sheet of text (a scientific text from a journal) and it displayed "Text: su 10 anal sums ..." as result.
Nevertheless, all the results are from academic sites. Absolutely unrelated to the paper but at least NOT related to the quoted text
Not blaming it on Google though, it was clear that it would not work with page full of text, I'm just posting since I consider the actual outcome funny.
Overall, I think this app has a LOT of potential. If nothing else, at this stage, it's fun and a great novelty for the phone itself.
I am going to play around with it while out and about shopping and see what I can find. I already have saved a ton of money on items with the barcode scanner searching items on the web.
I can't see it in the market in a Hero with android 2.1
Can someone post the apk file. I'm running the Cliq with 1.5 and its not in the market for me.

Because it's not compatible. It only shows for Android 1.6+

Android Market sucks

I have the sprint vogue that I ran Android 1.5 from my sd card with sprint network. I updated to eclair on the sd card but find my phone says T-Mobile, don't think its a big deal. When I was running 1.5 I was able to find apps like pandora to down load, know on t-mobile network and eclair a lot of apps are missing? Is their a way to unlock the market.
You need market enabler.

Edit: This pretty much just adds paid apps.

It's a problem with the Android SDK.
Starting with 1.6, Google introduced screen sizes: Small, Medium, and Large. Our devices have Small Screens (along with the HTC Tattoo). The G1/Dream has a Medium screen, and the Droid/Nexus a Large screen.
The problem is the SDK defaults to Medium and Large screens. It's up to the application developer to test the application for Small screens and proactively add the indicator for Small screen support.
Most developers never bother to indicate the app can run on Small screens, so it gets excluded from your view.
I'm not sure if the small screen thing is linked to the /data or your Google user account. If I knew which, I'd figure out some way to spoof it, so we can get the full market on small screens. If it's on the /data somewhere, then that's a much easier fix.
The fact that clearing your /data and booting up a 480x320 fixes it, seems to indicate it's a value in the /data. It'd be interesting to do a dump of two /data directories with only the market resolution changed and see how they differ on a binary level. Then perhaps we can add a patch to the menu of NoMoRootfs (or a patch that's applied every bootup... or lock down the file that's modified).
If it's on the account, then either you'd have to intercept the Market App's data packet that indicates screen size and modify it proactively, or you'd have to change parts of the SDK to report the screen size as larger than it really is (this would be hard to do because apps use that interface too... you'd have to be able to detect if the request is coming from the Market App).

That is a great idea.
Do you have the capacity to perform the differential on the two directories?
I have deodexed the 1.6 Vending.apk and can post the source for everyone to review. I think the more eyes on this the better.
The only reason I run 320x480 is because I want a full market 100% of the time.
All is working, I used the link that PacyWhitter gave, followed Tatnai directions and know have full market!!!

Yeah, I can do it, though it'd be easier to do it on two data.img files (might have to go back to WinMobile for that). Or I guess I could flash the kernel and wipe my data and export the result each time to a binary file. I'd still be interested in seeing the Vending.apk.
I already know where the Market apk is getting its info from. In android.utils there's a class called DisplayMetrics. The Market apk is likely getting its info from there. It'd be possible to spoof it by recompiling the source with a hardcoded value, but that'd affect applications as well. It'd be much harder to do it for only the Market/Vending apk.
The thing I'm interested in, is that obviously if the "boot up at one resolution, switch back" trick works, then it's not sending the resolution to the server every time. This means it has to be storing the data, or a hash of the data, somewhere.
This guy has a fascinating website on similar subjects:
http://strazzere.com/blog/
There's also a way to use the Market from the emulator:
http://www.anddev.org/viewtopic.php?p=28991
Perhaps I can start there and see if I can reproduce the problem, then produce the solution in a controlled environment.

[Q] organizing strat menü on DHD

Is it possilbe to clean up the start menu of the Sense UI? Like make folders for system tools, multimedia, games and so on. instead of having this endless list of apps. i always miss the app i am looking for, even that the are sorted a-z.
i am used to it from my old hd2 with win mob. you just make folders and move it where you want. but i dont know how about android handles this thing.
maybe somebody can help me.
Thanks
sorry i was doing some miss-spelling on the title, if some mod or admin would be so friendly and correct that please

As of yet I dont think there is a way and your best bet is to just create folders on your desktop and organise it that way. To be honest I would prefer the windows menu because I love organisation....unfortunately...the rest of windows mobile sucked...
Hope that helps.
i agree, that was the only positive thing on windows mobile. i had everything organized and could find everything in a few clicks. now i have to scroll up and down the list especially some programms have wired names, so i dont always remember them...
do you know a good folder programm?
i am trying right now "folder organizer lite" is there anything better, except the paid version of it?
I was a bit put out when I saw that the items are in one big list. Mind you, I've just come from having years of Nokia phones and if you don't use something very often it's a pain to remember which menu tree it's in so there are pros and cons.
What I've done is clear out the HTC stuff from each screen and arrange different *groups* of widgets on each. So 'media' (camera, music, etc) on one for example. System-type stuff on another (settings, brightness, etc etc).
Works for me but each to his own.
Dave
Use Folder Organizer it does a good Job for me you can find a free version on Market.
i am using folder organizer already and bought the full version. but it would be nice if i could get rid of this messed up menu.
i have just one question to folder organizer. how can i get or make my own folder icons. do they have to be in .ico format and where do i have to put them?
Why cant we create folders and push them to a home screen and use it, this can be better if i am not wrong! I am still new to android but i found this useful and easy to access my apps!
You can try "smart shortcuts" its a free app from market
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
You can create folders on your home screen and put shortcuts to any apps within them. Just drag and drop. You can also rename folders by long-presing on the title bar of an open folder.
Alternatively, if you don't mind using a different launcher to HTC Sense you can get ADW.Launcher free from Market. This allows you to create 'custom catalogues' in the app draw. You can set it to have pagination buttons within the app draw to easily switch between the catalogues. You can, if you like, have one for games, one for navigation etc. It's not ideal but it works and ADW.Launcher is a great (and very customisable) launcher too.
Hope this helps.

Inactive apps sit idle in memory and don't use cpu. Kill them and you use more cpu when you start them again than just leaving them. Some apps need to be running all the time by their nature. Kill them and they just use more cpu restarting. So you see task killers use extra battery but the makers claim they save battery.
But I have no free memory you say? Lucky for you the Android os is smart. If an active app asks for more memory, the os will reallocate memory from the idle tasks and give it to the active one.
Actually free memory is a bad thing. Memory uses battery regardless of weather it has data in it or not. Surely it's better then to fill the memory to speed loading of apps than to waste it by leaving it empty.
Someone swyped my idea.
I understand that the 'Auto Memory Manager' app is supposed to be different from task killers though and quite effective? So you may want to look at that.
Nice
Thats good to know. Thanks!

Mini Uninstaller (fast way of uninstalling apps)

Hello,
I have with me an app I would like to share with the HD2, and XDA community which I previously found on the Google Market which now doesnt exist anymore.
I managed to copy out the APK and I will attach below.
The app is good for
Listing all your installed apps quickly so you can remove them
Smooth scrolling
Sort by Name/Size/Last Installed/Install Location
Search
Just needs to build cache during first launch, and doesnt work on LANDSCAPE, which are the only disadvantages of it.
I personally use the Last Installed sorting mechanism, to view all the last installed and remove. I install quite a number of apps and usually when I found that it sucked, I enter this app quickly and remove them (latest apps appear on top of the list)
I have been using this since 2.2 FROYO and it doesnt seem to give errors back then. On GB 2.3, I noticed an occasional error message :
[Opps Sorry I got error ] but this doesnt stop it from uninstalling the application.
I have given this app rigorous testing and it has survived 2.2+ and 2.3+ Androids application removal, whether it produces errors or not.
I also noticed that this app has been removed from the Google Market, without reason from the developer / Google. Hence I would not mention anything about future release or support, neither do I know whether it would damage your device/ operating system but I certainly ONLY been using this app to remove applications and it has been TREMENDOUSLY awesome. Give it a try, and let me know whether you found similiar apps in terms of speed, features and outlook.
Credits to its developer, which I remember to be known as MINIGUY after a few Googles. I also couldnt find this application anymore hence I am posting it here
If this has been posted before I apologize.
Dont forget to click the THANKS button if you found this app useful
On another note, this applications is FREE and is not WAREZ

i think ive tried appsaver but this is an app that lists out all your apps pretty quickly and lets u just choose to uninstall them
its like add/remove programs, but way way faster than anything ive tried especially 200 apps
default manage applications takes nearly 15 seconds to load, while this takes 1-2 seconds, tops
Thanks for the app. I will give it a try! :0)
I realized that this application was ripped and published as someone else's work as follow up
its called "Uninstaller" in market , which uses the same error message, logo, text, font, settings, buttons, icons
you are free to use both as they produce the same results and same settings
