Hi,
I have problems setting up a custom boot animation with CF-Root-XX_UNK_JVQ-v3.7-CWM3RFS and I9000XXJVQ.
The phone is loading the bootanim but then it vibrates one time and the bootanim is looping forever. Am i missing something or is it a bug related to cf-root ?
Thanks.
If your on froyo, you need to rename the animation to bootanimation.zip if your on gingerbread then its totally different, I'm not sure what you have to rename it to but I'm positive you have to rename it, make sure you have renamed it with .zip at the end and place in system/media
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
CF-Root also supports custom boot animations:
- /system/media/bootanimation.zip
- /data/local/bootanimation.zip

JVQ is Gingerbread. I tried both upper solutions and the result is the same. After a phone reboot, the animation is loaded but it keeps playing in loop.

I have the stock bootanimation.zip. I'll upload the file when I get off work. Just drop it into system/media/ named as bootanimation.zip. As far as the boot sound goes, nobody to my knowledge has had any luck with that. Everything I have tried to restore custom/stock bootsounds has failed.
Thank you very much!

Minor difficulties. The bootanimation.zip file I have for the true stock animation is corrupted and I'm not having any luck fixing it.
I've attached two alternatives though. The first file is the SGS bootanimation that has been optimized for a smaller screen. It works fine, but it is smaller than it would normally be.
The other is a modded version with a BIOS boot intro followed by the SGS boot animation (full sized). In my opinion, its pretty freakin sweet. Credit to specialex and LitePro. This one is their work, not mine.
Either way, download, rename to bootanimation.zip and drop it into system/media folder using root explorer or a comparible file manager app.
Thanks man. The BIOS style one looks sick. It seems that you can restore a bootsound through SGSTools, but when I set a random .ogg notification sound as the shut down sound, it played it in a never ending loop. I'll try and tinker with it some.

Yea, I had no luck working with SGS Tools and the boot/shutdown sound changer. It works great on stock 2.1 w/ root (I tested it the last time I flashed back to stock- rocking the "droid" voice on boot for a while).
Unfortunately, it never worked for me on custom roms. Even tried .mp3 and .oog files instead of .wav just for the hell of it. I think the issue has to do with the playlogos1 file that the devs modify to kill the default shutdown/startup sounds. I'm going to try SGST again though... its been a while and that app has been updated 4 or 5 times since I last tried.
Well, I found the shutdown.ogg file from the JH7 OTA .zip file and yes, it did work through SGSTools! If I find the original boot animation in one of these folders it'll be back to stock appearence Now whether or not I want to do that is the question hehehe....
EDIT: Turns out only the shutdown sound was working. Im doing a Rom Manager backup now, but my plan is too remove the bootanimation.zip file and restore the factory playlogos and playlogos1 files back to system/bin and see what happens.
EDIT 2: Well that didn't work... I found two other files called bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg and seeing if those work.
EDIT 3: No luck there either. I wonder if it is possible at all to restore the boot animation and sound, and what the developers did to remove it. Its very interesting...
Here's a copy of the stock bootanimation.zip. Credit to whoever I got this from. Personally I like the BIOS one
I know this question has probably been asked a million times already, but how do you change the at&t boot logo or the firefly boot logo to a custom gif or jpeg?
Mobiletechvideos.com has a batch for changing the att logo and a video showing you how to use it, I can't post a link (see rule 11). The firefly is a bootanimation.zip that is located in /system/media you can swap that out with another bootanimation.zip with adb or a root file explorer.

I don't believe he's asking about the param.lfs, but rather the kernel image.
please answer which you are asking about as I can explain how to do either. though studacris is right about the bootanimation change and the param.lfs change (which is in a video we aren't allowed to link to)
The kernel says sgs-I897 not att I believe, whatever the speedmod has. But if you know how to change the kernel image, please enlighten me!

it requires compiling your own kernel and modifying the logo_rgb24_wvga_portrait.h in drivers/video/samsung to what you want using morfic's tools here: https://github.com/morfic/Samsung-logo
you cannot change it without building your own kernel though
ok there is the att splash screen that can only be flashed from odin
an att boot animation that is part of the kernel, with the flying things and the annoyingly loud sounds
and a samsung boot animation that is in a proprietary format and cant be replaced
then with i9000 kernels there is a kernel splash screen instead of att animation
the speed mod kernel is a i9000 kernel with an edited splash screen to say i897. the captivate doesnt have this screen stock
on modified kernels the boot animation is changed to the standard bootanimation.zip that most other android phones use.
to change the att splash screen you need odin. follow the thread below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849789
to change the kernel animation/splash screen, i dunno, ask a kernel dev, or just fond a kernel with one you like.
to change a boot animation get a kernel that supports bootanimation.zip and find a good boot animation, there are a few in the themes and apps section, just place the boot animation.zip file in /system/media

you're confusing your terms, there are 3 separate "boot" pieces.
1) bootsplash = param.lfs (first image you ever see)
2) bootlogo = logo_rgb24_wvga_portrait.h which is built into the kernel (AT&T kernels have this as well, it's just identical to the param.lfs one on stock, install the OverStock kernel if you don't believe me and see it's been changed)
3) bootanimation = either Samsung's bootsamsung.qmg or bootanimation.zip
depending on which the OP was asking about, each one of these are changed differently. please don't spread conflicting (and incorrect) information.
Would I be out of place to mention BootAnimation Changer from the market?

I've tried changing my boot animation several times now and I'm stuck at the old boot animation that just says android. I've swapped the zips in system/media and in system/customize/resource. I'm kind of at a loss. I even tried a couple apps that supposedly change it for you. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm running Liquid Gingersense v. 1.0 on thunderbolt

did you move or make a backup of the stock bootanimation.zip ?
make sure you verify the permission of the new bootanimation.zip .
When I've tried this in the past the android boot screen would show when I didn't have the file named right, check the file name and also if you can put the boot zip on your CPU make sure it is zipped in store only and not compressed

should be in /system/media/
Make sure the boot animation in system/customize/resource is labelled bootanimation.zip and not VZW_bootanimation.zip,,,,if it is nothing will install unless you rename the boot animation to VZW_bootanimation,,,hopefully that helps it did for me,,,also verify that your permissions are the same as the boot animation currently in there before you swap them out
Installation
- Download the .zip file.
- Reboot into recovery mode.
- Flash the downloaded .zip file.
- Done.
.... Reserved ....
Boot animation v2.0
Flash the .zip file using CWR.

Aesthetics, i think it gets messy if you post too much stuff in one post. One thing i want to ensure u that there is no waste of paper in it.

I'm trying to change my boot animation from yours to another but I can't delete yours. Whenever I put a new file in the system/media folder your bootanimation still shows up on reboot. Is there a special thing I need to do to delete your animation?

I had the exact same problem when I flashed Galaxy nexus bootanimation Weeks ago, and deleting the bootanimation zip first didn't solve it.
After a bit of exploring I found another bootanimation.zip in /data/local/ and replacing the zip there solved the problem.
Any youtube or gif previews available?
Does anyone have a flashable stock boot animation from ICS?
Nope.
Also, there should be a general thread for all people to post their bootanimation creations.
why isnt there any good boot animations
I am using an galaxy mini plus device and I tried to change my stock bootanimation. I tried bootanimation manager from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23899619, but with no succes. After I applied the animation I want and I reboot my phone I steel have my stock one.

But I don't find any tutorial that explains how to change bootanimations in stock roms.
Try here
http://www.google.com/cse?cx=partne...tf8&hl=en&q=change+boot+animation+galaxy+mini
I got the desired result on top why can't you
I delete "samsungani" file from system/bin/
I renamed "bootanimation" file from "system/bin/" to "samsungani"
I copy "bootanimation.zip" in "system/media/" , and the animation steel dont work.
you must be doing something wrong or the bootanimation is not created properly
to check if bootanimation is OK type su then samsungani in terminal if the bootanimation is played the bootanimation is OK and if not thenin boot animation something is wrong
I tried this bootanimation ( i attached it), but when I type in the terminal emulator "su and then samsungani" it playsa part of an old bootanim. ( not the stock one, the first custom one that I tried). I dont know why he do this. In media folder I have just the bootanimation arhive that I atached here.
