TIP: Remote upload to Dropbox - Off-topic

Hey guys,
I just thought I should post this little tip about two sites I know of. Many of the uploads in XDA are mirrored in sites which have annoying download limitations. Some uploaders do it trying to make some cash but at the rate these download sites pay, I doubt they'd make a lot.
In any case, this tip is for people who like to create mirrors.
There are two sites that I'd like to mention. Namely, URL Droplet and sideCLOUDload.
Both these sites provide an unique feature. They provide remote upload to Dropbox.
http://urldroplet.com/ (300MB limit)
https://www.sidecloudload.com/ (25MB limit)
So, next time you want to mirror something, you wouldn't have to trouble yourself downloading it first especially if the file is large or you have slower internet or you use a volume based package.
These sites are also useful for downloading files from slow sites. You add the file to queue and the these sites will upload the files you want to your dropbox and you could download the file without any delays from your dropbox.
If you are new to dropbox, do consider using my referral link when you signup.

Great info.
But find it a little useless when you look at it?
Why upload it to someplace to then mirror it to dropbox?
multiupload does it to multiple well known file sharing sites in 1 upload.
I use dropbox and it's great but the tools you provide are more for important stuff. Like let's say you found a software or license package you need allot and you always wanna have it . Well then those sites will let it synch to your dropbox and then a copy is safe on your space.
Rapidshare also has this service now.
In case on this forum where the majority of shares are Kernels,Roms,Apps i would still say that file sharing hosts (not promoting here) are the fastest and best solution to share.
Google should actually make a service like dropbox.

I often see requests to mirror some files elsewhere since some of these file sharing hosts have annoying limitations. This is to mirror already uploaded files. Not all files.
As you know, dropbox has no limitations. Plus, anyone can save it to their dropbox without a problem. Multiupload is great but not a lot of people use it.
This might not be useful for everyone but it might save some time for many.
Google already has a dropbox like service. Google Docs comes with 1GB free storage and uploading as well as sharing for all files but additionally editing for documents.

Thx for the info.
Didn't know Google docs already had it never actually used it shame on me.
Anyways yeah got a point.
Another one then i can add to the usefull list is Rapidshare.
As free customer you have unlimited space & unlimited amount.
Downside is after 30days of inactive it gets deleted and the downloading has a waiting time.

Google Docs has no sync. Maybe that's why you missed it. RapidShare is great and Uploading.com is great too. But, I find the download limits annoying. Sometimes, Rapidshare and similar sites will run out of download slots for free users with no means of downloading the file at all.

urldroplet is great, I've been using it for quite a while. The 300MB limit isn't that great though. Is there something like this for google drive though, preferably with a higher (or no) limit?

Please all use FTP site for OEM packages

I don't see any reason why most uploaders are currently using the commercial, unreliable and slow services of Rapidshare. XDA developers has a great FTP site, it's free, it works much faster than Rapidshare, pleae use it.
BTW this FTP site has been trashed in the past, uploaders please publish file size/date/crc and keep backups of your uploaded files.
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Himalaya/ for downloads
ftp://xdaupload:[email protected]/Uploads/Himalayafor uploads
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_FTP_Site for explanation of ftp

Of course, not for whole ROM images...
But - generally, yes, use ftp server
Maggy you've done a great job making the Stickies informational.
Maybe it would be an idea to Make a sticky roll up that combines all your info.
Just a suggestion, no one needs to do anything.

Hosting Files

Hey, I would be glad to host any file which is created for xda-developer in the Raphael section. I made a gaming website, which I didn't even bother finishing. I have about 600GB per month for one year, I'll be glad to host file for you guys.
If you are interested please contact me here. Or at [email protected]
Thank you.
How much space do you have?
About 60 GB, 20 GB with free space.
I've mirrored the entire XDA FTP, and that's about 20GB alone. Unfortunately, most of this stuff isn't on there. Especially the Raphael section...there's not much on the official FTP. For all XDA, I'd think more like 150GB, but not sure. I'm currently thinking about crawling the forum, harvesting links to archives, hashing the files, and providing a sort of automatic check for mirrors.
Once that's done, a report could be run to find non-redundant linked files, so that mirrors can be found for them and added.
Assuming certain commands are supported on the FTP side, one could even script an auto-mirror function. I really don't think it'll be necessary though. If mirrors are missing, you wget all those single-repo files, upload them to a fresh FTP, and then add those mirrors to the database. Easy peasy.
Any takers?

if you need direct download links of any of the files tell me

I have purchased webspace so if any one of you is needing direct links of roms ask me i will upload them
and provide you with direct download links
Just last month I did over 1300gb of bandwidth hosting various rom files and Fatsal's old android files.
You better either have a secondary shared hosting account that can be bogged down or a dedicated server for yourself.
Is this this the case?

Website stuff?

Anyone interested in helping maintain a website intended to be a central location for all things sprint htc hero customizations. I know this has been attempted in the ROM, MOD and Theme threads in different threads, but I thought it might be more helpful to have everything more centralized and organized on its own site.
I'm thinking something similiar to the threads we have now, but presented more like a photo gallery style format.
If we don't think it is something that is wrothwhile, then I'll just offer a mirror to people that want one. The domain is:
sprinthtcheroroms dot com,
you can email me there at riggs Android at sprinthtcherroms dot com, if you are interested or would want your stuff hosted there as a mirror.
Just trying to do my part to help the community....
I have a few ideas as to how this could be accomplished. What sort of time frame are you thinking? I have a lot of experience with Joomla and would be willing to help you get an instance set up and try and help maintain it. I am a software developer by day, so I try not to spend too much time on a computer when I get home, but I think I could swing some time on weekends. As far as a custom solution goes, I am a huge fan of GWT and think that if you were thinking long term this is a possible solution, but is by no means a fast one. Most of the devs in the community use wordpress as their content management solution. I prefer Joomla because of it's plugability and it is less centralized around being a blog. As far as download management for Joomla, some of the more popular are DocMan and Phoca. I have integrated phpBB into Joomla before, but I would like to find something that is a bit easier if you would like to do a forum. I have been out of building php and content management sites for 2 years since I graduated, but the most feature rich Joomla example of my work is www.morningshowcentral.com.
I agree it would be nice to have a one stop shop for all things hero. I have found that it is very difficult to find these things because they end up getting buried in the forums. You could give an account to all the major devs so that they could post their releases, and it would be nice if we could set up a way for devs to get faster feedback on real problems yet not have to deal with trivial problems that can be solved by the community.
I've built a few websites in my time.. I could help you out...

How's rooting going? <--hijacking own thread.
I can help, i have extensive experience in Vbulletin 3.8/4.0 If you need me you can pm me.
Ok, so I've been working on the layout of the site and such, and have the following request.
Anyone who has a FAST internet connection, can you download ROMs for me and upload them to my server? At home I only have a 3MBs/768KBs DSL line.
If you are willing I can give you a login for hte FTP for the rom folder.
I would do it, but my internet stinks...
Anyone want to do some compiling of information? I am trying to just grab posts from here, androidforums, androidcentral, etc. and clean them up (give credit to EVERYONE) just to have everything in one place.
Working in JOOMLA.
Thanks guys.

1MBP/s DL and 50KBP/s upload at your service.
As long as you promise not to beat my site, I won't attack yours
Hit me up on a PM here, want to make a small trade.

Help me, so I can help you

Hi
I see alot of developers uploading their roms to free sites like hotfile, megashare and depositfiles. The problem is that these sites wont give users a pleasent download if the user is not a premium member.
Therefor; I would like to offer free webhosting for rom developers. I am planning that it should be ad free and with direct links. But i need your help.
I would like to host a system, so that I can create users on my site, so they can login, upload files and retrieve download links. note that many developers would like to have statistics on their downloads, so that should be possible too.
I dont know what system I should use, also, it's not that hard to make one from scratch, I just dont have the time.
I can provide mysql databases too if necessary.
Also, lets vote for a domain name :highfive:
I think there are already some platforms where you can upload and share your roms.
e.g. http://goo.im/ or google project hosting...
Also you did not mention what you would like to call your hosting service
rom-service.com
rom-service.org
rom-download.org
or something like that

Actually it's not just for roms, devs can upload whatever they like.
I have 750gb storage and 750gb bandwith. I am not even using 10gb ea. It's a shame to not put it in good use.
