[Q] CMR back up and restore issue - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks,
When I back - up a rom i can't restore to it, always ends up saying "restore complete" the phone reboots and hangs on the samsung galaxy s screen for over 5mins, then reboots into cmr with various E: errors, such like cannot mount cache, or cannot cache/mount/log.
Also the rom i was using was cm7 rc10 and when this rom is installed the phone reboots straight into the rom where as it should reboot into cmr.
Any ideas ?

Depends on what rom your trying to restore? And what bootloader is on your device

You cannot restore a nandroid backup from a Samsung ROM directly over cm7 via cwm. You need to reflash a stock ROM via odin first. Then you can flash your nandroid backup from cwm.

What version of CWM are you using? Freezed as in bootloop?

[Q] android.process.media

I rooted the captivate today (which was on froyo) (Using the odin method) and tried the official CM10 Rom first and then the AoCP Rom because i was getting a message saying 'android.process.media has stopped. Now i am getting the same problem with every other ROM, what might be the problem?? :crying: !
Did you try to reflash back to stock?
Do next using ODIN, download stock froyo for your rom if you don't have if its single file put it in PDA and flash it ( do not check repartition)
if you have 3 file you can check repartition but you will have to put PiT file aslo but if you have 1 file better.
So when you go back to stock, root your device install CWM recovery and install some older rom like CM7 to get GB with bootloader then when it boot ones if everything is ok, reboot recovery and flash CM10 or any rom you witch.
maybe a corrupted external sd card or other partition could cause this message. if you have an external sd card and unmount it, does the problem go away?

Maybe some rom made bad partitin layout so going back to stock then flash cm7 is the best way. Then from cm7 he can go any rom he like.

I went back to the leaked official GB, using odin, then rooted the phone again , the flashed the kernel with recovery, then wiped everything and then flashed CM10, still gave me the same message and no I don't have an external, only internal SD.

I would try a different ROM, see if the problem persist.
Did u get the error message when on stock gb kk4 ?
Or after u flash a Dev Rom are u restoring apps/data etc. through Titanium Backup ? Or as soon as u flash the Rom and it boots up, u get the error ?

I get the message on the 1st boot for every rom except the leaked gb! And I tried 3 different ROMs, will settle for Gb

NANDROID ? Don't use stock recovery. Don't make nandroid backup for stock rom.
so how should i flash cwm recovery .
and which recovery is best suited for nandroid backups and comptability with all apps.
does it necessarily require me to install custom roms.

Same situation, need CWM ?

I am in same situation with a GT-S5570, it has stock rom and is rooted. I downloaded Clockwork Manager to it's SD card.
Then from stock Recovery manager I tried to install CWM from sd card. The screen got distorted and graphic looked awful.
Had to reboot and nothing got installed.
Tried Odin but it won't recognize my phone while in Downloading mode.
I want to install Cyanogenmod 10.1 Android 4.2........any ideas? I guess I need somekind of backup first, if I mess up and need to reinstall stock? Hard to do with stock recovery mode though.

To make it detect in odin you need drivers... install those by installing kies.... flash CWM from stock recovery only and not by using rom manager....

Apps can always be reinstalled in no time I think, problem is I can't install CWM from stock recovery, when selecting update from sd/zip or whatever it says, I pick the CWM file on my SD-card.
Then the graphic gets messed up and I can no longer see the menu clear.

before you flash cwm make sure its in the root directory of your sdcard... . So to say sd root is to say the topmost folder on the sdcard, which is just on the sd and not in a folder.
without getting odin recognize your Mobile you should not flash anything as if you get in any trouble it would be easy for you to flash the stock rom
and best and safest method to flash cwmr is to flash it through odin
you cannot backup stock rom with cwm recovery only custom one's can be backed up
to backup apps and data you should use titanium backup
