[Q] Amazon Cloud Reader - Nook Touch Themes and Apps

Amazon just released the Cloud Reader to bypass Apples InApp Purchases. I checked it and found out, that there are no transitions while turning the pages.
Unfortunately my nook hasn't arrived yet. Can anyone check, if the reader can be used with the nook, please? Thanks in advance.

It requires Safari or Chrome. Does the NC run either browser?

Not straight from the market, as far as I know.
Still trying to find a way to download it to computer to force install on nook, but no success so far.

[Q] HELP! Need eBook help

OK, maybe I'm in the wrong place but hopefully someone can help me or direct me to the right place. I have a Samsung Captivate. I downloaded FBreader app so I can read ebooks in epub format. I don't want Kindle and from reviews I read, FBreader is better than Aldiko or Laputa.
#1. Where do I go to buy ebooks (latest booksbest sellers, etc.)?
#2. How do I download them to my PC then transfer to my external SD memory card in my phone? Or/And
#3. How do I download directly from my phone to the SD card and this use the app to read?
Thanks in advance for your help, Fellow Droiders.
p.s. I DO have Kies installed. How/Can I use that for syncing ebooks from PC to phone?
When I first started learning Android, I had to experiment with a few different kinds of ebook readers. I previously had a Tilt that I loaded Incubus' Froyo on, and that was the only thing I ever read books on.
FBreader never really did quite work right for me, I ended up using the free version Wordplayer. It seems to work the fastest, has a lot of nice options, and doesn't screw up the formatting of the text. I read about 20 books on the tilt, and now that I've got a Captivate, I've read six on this device using Wordplayer.
As far as where to buy books, that's a matter of searching Google. I haven't bought any epub books myself, I've just been converting my old .lit ebooks using Calibre.
I never had any luck with FBReader I know it does not get good reviews but I have liked Aldiko that I even purchased the premium version of it. I was getting my books from Barnes and Noble in epub format but the only thing that it would play on without decrypting the files is their Nook software which is fine in its self but my other collection of books that I did not get from Barnes and Noble I import them with Aldiko. One nice thing about the nook software is that you can do it all on your phone and never have to worry about the PC as it will load the book on your phone directly
Hope this helps

[Q] Nook app / ePub file / Magazine Subscriptions

I purchased a magazine subscription from the nook store and it wouldn't show in my nook library. I called BN support and they said that it was an ePub file (not a PDF) and it seems like my device doesn't support ePub files. All other nook purchases are showing up in the library. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the app with no luck.
Does anyone know how to get ePub support on the device or a way to make this work?
Nook doesn't allow you to download and transfer the file from another device.

On the NOOK app I've noticed Epub files need to be side loaded which basically means manually copying them to the nook directory into my documents. Also, the nook gets a bit retarded at times and will crash anytime you try going into my documents, if this happens you need to go into settings -> applications -> nook and clear data
Not sure I understand what you are asking but Aldiko is a free reader that will do Epub files. It is in the market.

Thanks. I just went back through the order process and saw that it says it is only available on nook color. Probably wouldn't work with a sideload.
Are your tablets rooted or where did you find nook reader?
I installed the nook app and subscribed to a mag and it shows and I was able to open it.

Which title? Customer service said some would/wouldn't work. Some titles will say that they are only available on nook color.

Does anyone know how to sideload the cover art? I have a ton of epubs sideloaded and they work great just can't get the cover art to show.
...just bumping this to see if someone can give more detail on nook magazine subscriptions on the g tab. Almost all titles say that they are exclusive to the nook/nook color. My attempts have not been successful.
Please let me know the titles you have tried and how you got them to work. The step by step would be a useful reference for others considering the g tab as well.
Thanks!
epub files are just easier dealt with in fbreader. Available in market.
Not as flashy as Nook, but much more user-friendly.

I use Readers Hub with Zinio to read magazines. Go to Zinio.com and sign up and purchase subscriptions to the magazines you want and you can read them on your gTab.
Here is where you can get the apk files for these apps.
Force closes with the standard Zinio apk.
Use the fixed version for the GTab.

(5 months later...) The nook app has been updated to support magazine and newspaper subscriptions as well as user ePub files.
Yeah, works great for me! I'm loving being able to read magazines on this color display as apposed to the terrible magazine support on the standard Nook. A few bugs, but mostly going without a hitch.

[Q] Kobo Book reader

Enticed by the 1.8 Million books and claim of free books I installed the Kobo reader on my rooted NC.
The app loads and you can browse books in the catalog BUT when you try to open a free book or a preview of a book to purchase the app crashes out.
It seems to work fine on my Droid X so this seems to be a Nook-ism....I wonder if the screen size is an issue?
Anyone else tried this or had any luck?
thanks
Chris
I had a ereader that used kobo before we got the nook. I just downloaded the app so we could use the books we had already bought with them. I can see my books on the shelf, but it still says "waiting to download" and never does.. i hope somebody can help us with this.
Kobo
I had the same problem on my Rooted Nook Color.
Kobo loaded and then showed "waiting for download" on each of the books (I have about 65 or so).
I rebooted my Nook to make sure there was nothing hung; then I ran the program and let it sit for about an hour. When I cam back to check on it, it was just finishing the last of the books.
Now it works just fine, and new books download into it with any delay. I am not sure what the problem is when it first downloads your library; but I got tired of quitting the program and decided to let it run as long as it wanted to.
Good luck!
It downloaded my books and then mentioned they are working on the issue. I downloaded a preview and it opens and then immediatly crashes back to my library.
I did a reboot, log out log back in and remove and reinstall. Still have same issue.
I logged a support ticket to see what they say but I am guessing it could be related to the screen size OR it requiring a unique hardware ID i.e. phone number for account/licensing purposes.
If I hear back from Kobo will post anything of interest here.
Sent from my LogicPD Zoom2 using XDA App
Re: the downloads hanging, mine worked after I did a "clear local data" and re-inserted my microSD card. I'm guessing it stores books on the card.
I still can't open books though. Same error as above.
Update: The app still doesn't work, but if you connect your NookColor to your computer via USB, you can copy your Kobo books from Adobe's Digital Editions software. You will first need to go to your Kobo account on their website, download the book into Adobe Digital editions. Then connect your NookColor to your computer via USB. Once it is recognized, open Adobe Digital Editions. It should find your NookColor. Authorize the Nook, then you can drag and drop books from ADE into your NookColor's icon on the left. They work fine in the B&N ebook library. No pretty covers, though, at least on the ones I copied over.
Having this problem too after trying to read a book I bought at Borders.com. Any workaround to get Kobo to work or is the Adobe software trick still the way to go?

consolidating books from multiple stores

I have purchased books on the B&N store (previously owned nook) and google play store. Is there any legal/legit way to be able to read these books from a customizable reader like cool reader?
B&N store allows me to download an epub, but it seems to crash cool reader if i transfer it manually to the nexus7. (I tried removing the weird naming format but nothing, pathetic attempt but its all i could think of)
The google play store allows me to download the acsm, but i cant seem to do much with it.
I tried some googling on conversions, but honestly, i got so much trash response (HEAVY results with any search including google play or B&N store) from a search I couldnt find anything useful.
I'd appreciate even a point in the right direction if this can not be solved here, I'd just like to consolidate my purchases to a more customizable reader.
I use a program called calibre to change format of my ebooks.

[Q] Purchase nook hd outside US

Hi everyone. I am planning to buy a noble Hd but I live in Europe and I have a couple of questions.
Will I be able to fully use it or will i loose any features? I plan to istall cyanogenmod. I mainly need it to read so will i be able to insert ebooks and read them?
The most important is that need to read from the web.does the crome browser support article view?
Does it worth to buy it or not?will i have access to all android apps?
Thank you in advance!
If you install Cyanogenmod you will lose the Nook app store, which isn't a great loss. You will still be able to buy/read Nook books if you install the Nook app, but you will need to either find the apk or install the 1mobile app store, as the Play store will say the app is incompatible if you're running Cyanogenmod. CM11 (Android 4.4) will give you vastly better performance than the stock ROM, though, which is a heavily customized and somewhat locked down Android 4.1. As long as you install a gapps package you will have Play store access on CM. Play store and various Google apps are built into the latest stock ROMs, so either way you can have Play store access. If your books are DRM-free there are many choices for epub readers. I prefer Overdrive Media Console, Readmill and Play Books (note that while Overdrive and Readmill can load locally stored epubs, Play Books requires you to first upload the book you want to read to the Play Books site and then re-download the book through the app). Those are just my personal favorites, though; there are a ton of epub readers out there. Fabrik is also another outstanding epub reader, but I don't use it because it's very slow to load. If you are using the mobi format you can use the Amazon Kindle app. I can't tell you much of anything regarding the capabilities of the Chrome browser, as I prefer Opera or UC Browser, nor can I vouch for article view, as I'm not sure what that is supposed to mean exactly. You might investigate the Readability app if Chrome doesn't do it for you, but the capabilities are the same as any other Android phone or tablet, so if you have an Android phone you can test out Chrome in advance, before you buy the tablet.

Thank you for the immediate and full of content response. I am about to buy the Noble, I just have to check for the article view. It is actually a mode on mobile browsers witch remove all unnecessary content in order to read articles, opinions , actually anything written in the web.
Ah, well, that sounds pretty much like what Readability does. Like I said, I don't know if Chrome does that or not, but if it doesn't you should be able to share the page to Readability and then it'll do it.
Barnes and Noble in the US only ships within the US. You'd need to use a reshipping company to received the nook in the US and forward it to you. shipito.com will do this for about €35. Alternatively B&N's UK store currently has all Nook accessories for £5 (http://www.nook.com/gb/store/accessories). Again, if you're not in the UK you'll have to get it reshipped.
The latest Nook firmware doesn't have the Nook Browser, and it was this that had ArticleView. Anyway when you install CyanogenMod all the Nook apps will be removed, but you'll be able to install almost any Android app. As such you may want to ask the visually impaired community if there is an Android browser that fits the bill.
