Hi all,
So I've updated to 2.3.3 and now I no longer get my 'unread' notifications over my icons (specifically Messages and GMail). They do appear in the notification bar, however, so as far as I know everything is turned on as much as it can be.
Is this because of the specific ROM I installed (below), or is there a setting I'm not noticing?

Thanks a bunch!

Have you added just a shortcut to messages rather than the widget for messages?
I think it's a shortcut, but this was the functionality I had in 2.2 - the icons were still in place after the update to 2.3.3 but the notification numbers no longer appear.

For an app shortcut, you don't get the unread numbers. Remove shortcut, add widget.
OK, noob question time...
If I add the Messages widget, I get something other than an icon - I get a large thing that displays messages. Am I missing something obvious?
This is what I did to get the icons on my home screen: Personalize > Add items to Home > App > Messages.
Thanks again!

Ooops you're right sorry, I'm sure that was what you had to do in the old Android 1.1 days though. Maybe I'm mistaken.
Perhaps something to do with your notification settings in messages?
Haha! No worries. At least I'm not as dumb as I thought..
All notification settings are 'on'. Thanks for your time!
In case anyone else runs into this - remove the app from the home screen and re-add it. Seems to have solved the problem.

Tried both Apex and Go HD launchers (installed in /system/app), and both show the same problem: The status bar disapperars when there's a new notification. Instead, the open app starts to jerk down intermittently, and I can see the status bar trying to show up, just to disappear again. Mostly I have to reboot to grt it back, but now and then it reappears all by itself. A bit annoying, so: Anyone who has an idea about what to do to fix this?
<edit>The status bar reappears when the notification is cleared, i.e. I open the Mail app, the mail notification is cleared (I guess), and the status bar appears and behaves like normal again. That's the only way to restore normal functionality, it seems.</edit>

The problem you are having is caused by gmail. There is a way to fix it, they discuss it in another thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896958&highlight=gmail+notifications
Just go into settings and turn off notifications to gmail
Thank you! I've disabled the notification, and keep my fingers crossed. If worst comes to worst, the std mail client on the Kindle is quite workable too.

I almost like it a little better. Since I have multiple email accounts.

Yeah, I agree - it's quite good. However, on all my phones, I have GMail in the GMail app, all other mail in Email app, and I'm not much for changes...
hi guys
I just updated my HTC ONE to 4.3 version, but surprisingly i couldn't find the lock screen setting any more! it used to be in setting>personalize,
but now its not there or anywhere in the settings!! anyone knows where it should be?
It was removed in the 4.3 update.
Sent from my unknown using Tapatalk
so it meant to be removed?

The option was removed, you can't have the lockscreen settings, and you can't change the wallpaper or choose will ls apply.
But some of this feature will be in the Final release of the ViperOne.
Like they mentioned, this option is removed but you can go to:
Settings -> Security -> Notification Settings (4th option from top to bottom)
And in here you can choose what you want to be displayed in your lockscreen, the options are Phone (missed calls), Voice Mail, Text messages, Emails and calendar events.
apart from this, I believe the lockscreen widgets are always accessible if you swipe from the right corner and cannot be disabled... I think, so in a way you have almost all the functionality and "options" of the lockscreen choice you had in past sense versions.
Hope this helps!
Hi,
since kitkat (4.4.x) there is a notification for upcoming alarms 2 hours before the alarm time (a second alarm clock sign on the left top of screen)
I dont need this notification at all and its annoyin because this alarm sign looks almost like e.g. a whatsapp notification.
Is there a way to permanently disable this feature?
thx
nobody else annoyed or has an idea?
No way mate. I don't understand why there's not a xposed mod yet to remove that:laugh: Make your request here, maybe some dev is interested

Yes, I dislike it too. I searched everywhere for a way to disable it, but I never found a solution...

Hi,
Although many users found this new KitKat feature useful, I found it annoying: I don't need to have an Upcoming Alarm Notification to remind me that there's going to be a real alarm in the future. Fyi, I'm running CM11 20141124 Snapshot on a Galaxy S4. Here's the fix:
Next time you get one of these Notifications, go into Notifications and long press on the Upcoming Alarm entry (note that the long press might have been on "Dismiss now"). You will then get a prompt to disable notifications for this type of notification.
I'll appreciate if you will please reply with the exact long press location.
Also - If someone knows how/where this can be toggled back on, I would appreciate that info.
Regards . . .
BretAB
P.S. As noted elsewhere on the web, if you don't want to see the little alarm clock icon the you see on the right side of the Status Bar (recall that I'm running CM11 20141124), go into Clock, click on the hamburger that's on the lower right hand side, choose Settings, and disable Show Icon. This seems to override the "Show Notifications" that is enabled by default in Apps | All | Clock | "Show notifications" checkbox (or maybe that "Show notifications" checkbox at this location is for something else?) .
Hi and welcome to the board,
I'm a little confused with ur post. See my questions below the quotes of ur post here:

first of all, to understand ur post: is this a quote from somewhere else?
Second: disabling the notifications in the app settings works BUT it also disables the way to snooze or stop the alarm from lockscreen - so, not very helpfull/usefull?!
I'll appreciate if you will please reply with the exact long press location.

so thats actually the question of u?
answer: there are two ways to get there:
1)
unlock ur phone, (an alarm in the next 2 hours must be active) scroll down notification bar (wiping from top of phone to bottom) and long press on the alarm notification and choose "App-Details" in upcoming popup
2)
unlock ur phone, open the settings (the generall android settings), go to "apps", than the overview for "all apps", there should be "clock" or "deskclock" for me its "Uhr"
there u can disable amd enable it
so its also the answer to ur next question, i guess?! (see below)
Also - If someone knows how/where this can be toggled back on, I would appreciate that info.

Hello,
Just bought a Z3 compact recently and since yesterday (didn't install anything new, no special changes...), whenever I receive a message via the messaging app (stock, no hangout, it is disabled), the icon show, the phone vibrate or rings when needed, but doesn't show the message preview. I have to slide the statusbar to see it...
I have show notifications checked, no other app reading notifications.
Any help? I don't believe and I don't want to go through a factory reset because of only that :/

No, the messaging app is enabled there ^^'
Message preview, you know, the message being displayed on the statusbar when you receive a message (you don't have to slide the notifications bar to see it)
Yes, I have the same. When message arrives and screen is off then its nothing except led blink. I think that change with 5.0 update

The problem is that, even with screen on, it still doesn't scroll the text preview when I receive a message. I also have to add that everything else works (It does scroll down the data off info for example)
I do hope Lollipop will solve that, but it'll be long before it starts rolling.
Then just install Textra instead default messaging app

But don't you think there is another solution beside running another messaging app? (hangouts runs just fine but meeeh)
Hi there,
when I lock my Mate S I eventually get notifications from threema and Whatsapp. The Threema notifications are always doubled, the exact same notification and for Whatsapp I get group notification for every single message with the sender and for the group chat with the counter of the messages.
I know from some other posts some of you have also problems like this. Has anybody found a launcher and lockscreen combination to fully disable the stock lockscreen? I currently have the Smart Launcher installed and I love it, but when you activate the lockscreen the stock lockscreen stays on top or beneath it, even when you disable it in the Themes Section of the settings.

Thank you, that really did the trick finally!
Edit: Apparently that only did work 1 day, the bug appeared again. Someone got another idea?
