I know in some Contry its Illegal to Record Call but its not True for every
Country
I am Marketing Executive and drive a lot and in the middle of road i
receive to much call for reporting and rates feed for the Market, i have no
option other then using Nokia Symbinan Based Automatic Call Recording
software and at the end of the day i listen and write down every thing in
my PC for further Action .
I know its Possible through Android to Automatically Record Phone calls or
Atleast a API Support for Developers in SDK to do so.
Unless untill Call Recording don't come in Android all my Top tier Marketing
Team can not use Android At all.
I think Google Should seriously think about API Support in SDK to Support
Call Recording so my Situation can be Handled easily.

Nop. It can record your audio, but not the callers:
http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread/c2bc85eb60ae2aa5?pli=1
Apps that can record what you are saying: ringdroid and droidrecord. I have the same problem though. Hope they make it possible in FW 1.5.
Yeah +1
Every other phone I've had could do it and I do miss the ability to record and save phone conversations, especially when arguing with warranty returns/call centres.

News?
Somebody know if there're changes about newer android versions? Do Call Recording work now?
There is a new application in Andorid Market called AllCallRecorder. I think it would
help you
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.jp-eguchi-android-callrecording-wzin.aspx works pretty well. Voice from the other end is a little quiet, but I haven't had problems.
Two ways call recording is depending upon hardware construction same like wm and symbian. For example if wm, Asus and Samsung can but HTC cannot, whereas if in symbian case, Nokia can but Samsung cannot. This conclusion comes from my long experience with the aforementioned mobile phones. Have not tested with Garmin Asus android yet as it is not available in my market but believe this one can as Asus make it and assumably using the same hardware design for phone circuit.
We've confirmed that our Total Recall call recorder app for Android is running (ie, recording audio from both the device and the caller audio) on the following devices:
- Acer Liquid 100
- Droid Eris
- G1
- General Mobile DSTL1
- HTC Evo
- HTC Dream
- HTC Hero
- HTC Magic
- HTC Tattoo
- MyTouch
- Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 / Mini
Now, these have been confirmed either through internal tests on our own handsets or via user feedback, which means there's some variables, including OS version, among other things, so actual results on the same hardware may vary, but it's a good start anyways.
We've received feedback from a couple Moto Droid/Milestone users that it was also recording fine (just not showing the clip via our app, but it was available in the SD card), however on our own Droid running 2.1 (and previously 1.6) we never saw it successfully record a call.
Keep in mind the list above is for our own app, which has required about 20 updates to resolve various device specific issues either with recording, storing or showing audio files in the app, over the past few months, so other recorders may or may not actually work for you.
Anyone interested in giving it a go can download it from our website killermobile (dot)com. If you do run into any issues, PM me for a special debug version so we can see if we can get it running on your particular device. If you read this in the next couple days, and you use an EVO or Desire, also PM me for a special version that includes a fix specifically for these devices (official release will come after a bit more testing). We're definitely keen to add to our list of supported devices and will keep updating this thread accordingly.
Cheers!

what about HTC Touchpro 2 running android from card
Any updates..>?
OMG see this...

Total recall works on a HTC tattoo
Had to import it to my country
works like a charm
would like something to work on ver 2.0+ android though
Tattoo runs on 1.6 android
Just shows you that it did work and then Google F**** it up.
Nice to know that Total recall works on some phones.
But how well does it really work?.
I always use hands free. Would any of the short listed phones be able to seamless record the other party sound while using a handsfree set?
Thanks
Total Recall works like a charm on Tattoo
I make it pop up afterwords to add caller details and what call was about to the name
I record in mp4 format and found a free mp4 reader to read files
Been using it for 3 months
Worth the money a few dollars
sorry didnt see hands free part
Dont do hands free so cant answer that
Dont like bluetooth radio devices nect to my head
CAll rec software

Now we have bunch of app which will get your calls recorded
just check with laws in your state
Check out these free/trial apps :
Record My Call
RecordCall
Total recall call recorder TRIAL 14 days
All Call recorder
AndRecorder
Call recorder
Call Recorder
Note : File names are taken from Android Market and are placed one per line and will be exact in market so search with same keyword . There is not priority , just check out and use the one you like
PAID apps are also available but you will have to shell some $
out of all these only total recall appears to work and then only on some fones and on version 1.6
2.2 seems curtailed by goole on the voice streams ???
As far as I know it's not an Android issue.
The audio is handled by kernel on /dev.
The problem is really simple here: HTC's last kernels DON'T support this.
It's not an hardware problem, the audio from dmesg is there.
When you attach a bluetooth handset the waveform is sent to (and received from) the paired device.
Someone with free time could download kernel sources and search where HTC put this limitation..
Moreover.. on some kernels the /dev devices are there (but with different names of those supported by mediarecorder) and a symlink on /dev will suffice.
those are my 2 cents.
No Video Calling App!!
i was just about to make a video call in the SNS only to realized we don't have a build in app for that.
on the SGS the stock dialing app have the video call feature.
is there any 3rd party app to do the same?
or perhaps some one can port over the SGS calling app over for SNS ?
Qik, or tango or something like that? Aren't they on the market?
no, i want a non Voice Over IP app
all those mentioned above are voice over ip (Fring, Tango, Yahoo Messenger, Qik, Skype) it requires an account, etc, etc, to work.
i just want the phone to work like a phone, just choose video call instead of normal call
it works like that on the SGS, we are missing the feature on the SNS
you just call another person with a video call capable phone, using the real cell phone number

Doesn't exist for the Nexus S as far as I know.
It's a TouchWiz feature. Insert FAQ quote on porting TouchWiz stuff here!

All video calling apps require at some point a mapping of an IP Address with some unique identifier. Samsung elected to use the phone number (whatever), Skype uses unique usernames, etc. There are TONS of implementations of Video Over Internet Protocol. Don't think the fact that it uses a cell phone number means anything (because it doesn't).
Also, others pointed out it is a TouchWiz deal...since this is a Pure Google Phone, it is _NOT_ included since it is a Samsung modification / program / theme / whatever you feel like calling it.
My point is, its regardless going to be very similar to VOIP as in it uses your data, and two, the fact that it uses a phone number instead of a username is completely irrelevant to begin with.
The sgs has a native app built into the dialer!? Theepic 4g doesn't have it :/ and it also doesn't have a fm radio lol
Anyways, tango uses your number and anyone in your contacts list who have tango will show up and then you can video call em. They can even call you. It'll stay idle in the background and it'll be like youe getting a regular call

but the problem is, the other party will need to have tango installed as well, and using a tango supported phone
the normal Video to Video call, does not require any other software, and it works from any phone to any phone, say from Nokia to Samsung, or Samsung to LG
as long as both phones are video capable, that is the beauty of it.
the video call protocol standard is different than the one applied on the voice over IP apps we know about.
yes, both of them uses data, but one is direct and supported by the phone companies
the other one only supported if you have the app installed, this is the most inconvenient part, as not everyone uses the same app.
Oh I see what you mean.
They have that in europe and japan. I don't think our airwaves can handle that yet lol

seems like you are all missing the point.
the idea is to be able to dial the phone number from the dial pad just like the SGS, you can select video call, or normal call
then you are connected right away, without any 3rd party software.
this is the same on other video calls capable phones.
requiring a 3rd party software defeats the purpose.
and the only reference to the iphone is about the telco pushing it as the main device for video chat, nothing to do with comparing apps used to do the actual video call
what we need is a universal video calling standard, apple initially said that it would make facetime for different platforms but that has yet to happen
Apple stuff aside....
I'll be interested in seeing more Skype development to support Video Chat
Skype integrates neatly with the phone, and it's pretty universal, almost most people i know with a smartphone will have skype installed
at one point skype was trying to position itself as the standard, it'll be nice if they actually make it, but so far seems like they are only 1/4 of the way there.
it's being pushed back by Cell phone companies
I understand where AllGamer is coming from.
Some phones have them by default ... don't need to be a smartphone and don't need for any app or separate software. All you have to have is a phone with a front facing camera.
Back when I did not even have a data line (about 3 years back), I could just call my wife or friend or whoever had this FFC phone, while talking to them over my regular line, I would go into the phone option and switch on the FFC. The person on the other side did the same and we could actually video chat just like we do these days with special apps and phones that supposedly smart
Here, I'm not talking about software or service providers such as skype or tango and am not even talking of requiring data line. True, I would be charged for data, but this was only for the video data as at that time, I could never browse the net or send email given that my connection did not have data enabled.

we'll need a universal app that works on all the phone
at the moment only some phones can do this out of the box, like the Galaxy S, Iphone, LG, Sony, etc
Nexus S can use 3rd party apps, unfortunately those are not standard for every phone
Google did not package a cross platform compatible Video Chat due codec and encoding licenses issues
search google vs microsoft re: codecs
Hi, all.
Very interesting discussion. Just bought android phone with front facing camera but found out (after googling the net for 2 days!) that android phone does not support native video call. . I previously use SE K770i and with it I can video call my sister who is using Nokia 6124 - without any need to install any apps or subscribe to any additional provider, just our telco - and we have different telco!
Anyway, my question is, does native video call technology (video call as explain in videophone in wikipedia) is a propriety technology? Why android does not implement it?
-----
Sorry cannot post link to wikipedia as this is only my first entry. Just go to wikipedia and search for 'videophone'
flippin' 'eck, how'd I miss that one !?
I've had my SNS since Feb and never noticed the video call function wasn't there !
Way back when I had a Motorola V3 I was able to select video call from the dial menu, issue then was whether your carrier supported it (Three network started to lead the way but now all of 'em are video capable) and as Allgamer rightly points out, a massive oversight by Samsung/Google/Android !
Whilst I don't majorly miss the feature, it'd be nice to have it when I need it.
What else am I gonna use my 500mb data allowance on ?
That's how it works in Japan. Their regular phones that have front facing cameras support video chat natively across carriers. If the person you are calling has the support for it on their phone then you can do some video chatting..
I think the problem with the U.S. is that the telco's don't want to work together on stuff like this.
I recently purchased Choice Dialer, and thought I'd start a thread with somewhat af a review, and hopefully learn from others too about how to make it work well for us.
Ever since moving to Android, I have sorely missed Microsoft Voice Command. Choice Dialer is a start toward that direction. Of course, some will think of Vlingo, which in fact may be better now than when I last used it. Seems there is not one voice app that does everything.
Among features that it has are;
Of course, Dial by name, or number
Play/pause music; Next/Previous song; Play by artist; Play from album; Play songs by title
Send email
Send text
Set Facebook status

Schedule an event on calendar
Enable/Disable WiFi, Blue Tooth, GPS and some more

I have only had the app for a few days, and this review will not be comprehensive.
Does it understand?
I am struggleing a bit having it understand me. I frequently have it say "Try again". Sometimes it does something completely different from what I asked.
I am finding that it has a learning curve for speaking so it understands, as it is getting a little better. Interestingly, it understands better if I speak faster. When talking to a voice recognition, I think people have a tendency to speak slow and enunciate clearly. Interestingly, i find that makes it worse...at least, speaking slow does, for me.
I also think the app needs to mature some. For example I had this conversation with it yesterday:
Me: Enable Blue Tooth
CD: Did you say Disable Blue Tooth?
Me: No
CD; Disabling Blue Tooth.
Uh...it should have understood NO.
Another thing, as all voice dialers need, it needs a fairly quite environment. Background noise, radios, etc. will really throw it off.
Playing Music
First off, the only music player it plays through at the moment is the native android music app. I use MixZing, so prefer that.
It is nice that it will play by Artist, Album, or Song. But a glaring omission is it will not play by Genre. I asked them about playing genres, and got this response:
As to your suggestion for genres, for now perhaps you can approximate the effect through playlists? I steer clear of genres, as Android does not support the concept in its data model (I cannot ask the phone to tell me which songs are "pop").

Dialng
I find it to do fairly well at dialing when the person is in the contacts. Occasionally need to retry. I really like that it has voice confirmation.
Send Email
When I go to dictate an email, it uses Google Voice to hear the message. And often I get "Server problem Speak again" message in the Google App. I suppose it is a problem for the Google App, not Choice Dialer. But in the end, not too great. I attempted an email 7 times, and it worked twice. When it works, there is no way that I know of to have it use punctuation.
Open App
I can say Open <program name> and it works fairly well.
An interesting challenge for it is this one: "Open GPS Test". It never gets that. I presume because GPS is not a word.
Enable/Disable Functions
It works pretty good to enable Blue Tooth, and WiFi. Again, I sometimes need to repeat.
But, interestingly, enabling GPS is not what you expect. It launches the settings for you to click it, rather than just turning it on. I contacted them about it, and this is their response:
That is because that is all it CAN do.. nothing more direct is permitted a non-Google app.
Click to collapse
That one perplexes me. If you can directly enable Wifi, and Blue Tooth, I wonder why you couldn't do GPS. Certainly, there are apps that you can toggle it with.
Support
I find them VERY responsive. This is a good sign, and hopefully the app will mature and improve.
Wish List
If only this, or some app somewhere, could be as solid and capable as I found Microsoft Voice Command to be.
Would like to be able to : Play music by genre; Of course, have improved understanding and accuracy; tell me what is on my schedule today, and tomorrow. I'm sure there are others, but I'm running out of time for now on this post.
Conclusion
I may continue to use this for basic stuff, including dialing, and turning on BT when in car, opening apps etc. But for now, its too much effort repeating and so forth for the other features to be of much value to me.
So, are you using Choice Dialer? Better luck with it? Suggestions for use?

I tried the free version and really found it to be barely on par with the VoiceDailer.apk. Additionally, though there were lots of settings, it seemed overly complicated to me (I am a huge Voicedial fan from MS6.5).
I really only want the dial bit with confirmation (I never got that to work with the free version), and maybe reading/sending texts via voice.
I am not ready to step up and buy the app, and a 1 day trial is sort of silly. Give me 3-4 days. I did not realized there was a 1 day trial when I got the free version from the market, so I did not have an opportunity to test the paid version.
It is good to hear that their support is responsive. Let me know how you progress with this. I will let you know if I purchase the product.
I'll post back in a while.
I am still finding it a bit frustrating. I love the confirmation. But, I find it has a LOT of trouble understanding me. I think it is due to background noise.
Last night I tried it a bit driving home. I drive a Lexus, so road noise is not that bad, but with my Motorola T505 speaker phone unit, I had to scream at it for it to hear me.
Well, I'm about to give up on Choice Dialer. It just has way too high a percentage of not understanding.
I'm very disappointed. This is the only app I've found that has verification by voice.
I find Vlingo and Google Voice to have its share of misunderstanding, but not near as bad as Choice Dialer, but then they require hands on methods for verifications.
The major omission I found when switching from Windows Mobile to Android Eclair was voice dialling thru bluetooth. When I updated to Froyo I immediately tested the Voice Dialler with my Jawbone II - disappointed is an understatement. Recognition of contact names was abysmal, half the time it would dial the wrong contact without any confirmation. Other times I'd have to select an option on the screen - hardly hands free!
I tried Vlingo, but soon found it would only listen and speak thru the phone, not the bluetooth. Apparently a headset with A2DP profile is required.
So I tried Choice Dialer free, and found it better than the stock voice dialer because it offers voice confirmations thru bluetooth. That alone makes it worth using.
Recognition is good using the Jawbone, I haven't tried a built-in bluetooth or separate speaker phone yet. I'll report back when I've done so.
Anyway, I was impressed enough to purchase the Choice Dialer Plus. Can't say I've used the text and email capabilites for real yet, because although you can dictate a message thru bluetooth, you can't send it without pressing a button on the screen. Apparently the developer is working on making texting fully hands-free. He seems pretty active, judging by the change log on the site.
So I would recommend that those who are disappointed with stock Voice Dialler give Choice Dialer a try and see how the voice recognition works for you. Or if you have an A2DP headset, try Vlingo.

Great app, already paid for the donate version. I also paid for another call blocker in the past (around €5) but it turned out to be crap. Great work, some more features would be cool but blocking couldn't be better.
Having used modified Sony Ericsson W595 and K800 to have the "black list" patch, I was wondering if there was something similar for Android.
I installed the beta version onto my Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro, and glad to report it does work from testing from my other phone. The Mini Pro is using an O2 SIM with the voicemail disabled. The phone used to test was a Sony Ericsson K800 that has an Orange SIM in it, and these are my findings:
Call block:
Reject: rings once then disconnects (drop call)
Alternative reject: appears to answer (phone used to call seemed to have "connected" - however the other person would probably get the hint and put the phone down after a while)
SMS block:
Currently I have only tested the "block and save" - which still allows you to view the text that was sent. However, be advised that delivery reports were still allowed to be sent to the phone that sent the SMS.
As I said: I have not tried the other settings.
There is no sign of any missed calls or SMS received in the call log/inbox (which I think is a good thing).
Overall I am impressed with this app. Nice work
There's a bug with alternate reject in the current build. We will be fixing it shortly.
For now, a ittle update with new help files...
Save for the option to hide itself, how does this differ from Easy Filter?
Not trying to be a pain, Im just wondering...
Try the beta and find out... all i can say is that is much more powerful. Faster blocking, more options, less system footprint, native code... the list is bigzorz.
i really like this app, it works nicely on my Nexus S and my Desire HD as well
bought your screenshot er before and this now! thanks!

Friends, May 15 is approaching fast. On that day all the current apps that can make free wifi calls via GV, including Groove IP, will stop working for us. What are the alternative ways to keep taking advantage of free GV calls? Thanks!
For those who may not yet know about this, a quick reference is here: http://androidcommunity.com/groove-ip-shutting-down-due-to-google-voice-changes-20131104/
From what I understand that functionality will now be handled by Hangouts. No third party app required. Besides, if Google is killing all 3rd party app support for VoIP calls, how could there be any other 3rd party solutions.

Potential alternative considering they don't follow suit like Groove voice. also there is some calling lag but overall the app is solid.
