[Q] Renewing default firmware - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I have a SGS i9000, half of a year ago I installed a custom ROM. Since then I didn't have my native language in phone, found some files that added it back, but didn't work for gingerbread versions. Now I have some weird problems with my phone, starting from not able to hold calls and ends with some weird really quiet sounds. I asked the phone distributor about these problems, he asked if I have flashed Custom ROMs, he said it is a common problem with them.
Is there a way to flash "the real" ROM on my phone?
I have flashed over 10 different versions, none of them work right, because KIES says I have an unknown version or that this version cannot be updated.

Try a new custom rom, but if you want stock, go to samfirmware.com you will be able to download any stock rom you wish.

Like I said I tried to install many different versions, I downloaded them from that site. All of them resulted with one of 2 errors that I said before with KIES. I think I need to download it somewhere else. Also almost all versions needed to flash dbdata.rfs

Flash jm9 with pit 512 check repartition.

[Q] What firmware use to upgrade from 2.2 to 2.2.1

Hello,
I've a Galaxy-S (was from T-Mobile Uk, but I unlocked it, debranded it and so on), it used to be 2.1, so back in november I updated to 2.2 using the Kies trick (changing the area code and so on). Now I'm finding myself *not-so-happy* about many bugs that are around (sometimes apps just crash... etc..). I'd like to go to 2.2.1 if this would help. But Kies doesn't even show an available update, so I was thinking of flashing one with Odin. Which one do you recommend?
My firmware is XXJPP. I don't remeber how to get other info/codes, so tell me how if you need them.
Also, I'm ready to wipe everything, but I'd avoid it. So tell me how.
Thanks.
JPY or WJS8 in UK with CPW csc .
Build your own in the rom kitchen .

I suggest you the JS8 ROM. Is the last froyo 2.2.1 european firmware. You can use the JS8 rome in the romkitchen to customize your fw as you want
Odin for flashing Kies for orugnal upgrade
Is JS8 an official upgrade from JPY(2.2.1)? For the UK aswell????
Or is it just a general European(including UK) update?
I'm on JPY right now. Upgraded officially from JPO(2.2) in the UK.
Do you think it is better to flash JS8 firmware?
(I have tried 2.3.3 JVK but I would rather wait for the official gingerbread update)
JPY is still the most current firmware for UK. I'm in Australia and have been using it since release. Docs version of course.
JS8 is Nordic I think.

For stock go to samfirware.com, sign up, download Odin and jpy 2.2.1 (for UK). Install with Odin without repartition ticked and you should still have your apps/data.
Site has all the files and instructions you need. Just make sure you have download mode.
2.2.1 is miles better than 2.2. You'll wonder why you waited so long.

The networks do not upgrade all the incremental updates JPY last one in general use and none have bothered to push out the later upgrades preferring to wait for the official release of 2.3 .
Either JPY or WJS8 will work well on UK phones .

I tried both the kitchen and the: stock Rome. Even if the kitchen seems so clever and you don't need Odin in order to upgrade, I ended up with a 2.2.1 Tom that didn't have the market app, and other basic ones. Plus the media scanner was crashing every 10 seconds. Another one started up in Chinese and kept crashing various system apps. That's to say that it is not the best choice for stability. Instead I went to samfirmware got 2.3.2 and it is stable, clean and fast. Using Odin is easy in the end so I recommend this if you want a fully functional phone. And gingerbread is so faaaast
That's to say that it is not the best choice for stability.
You are doing something wrong then as its the safest and most problem free method .

I have 3uk sgs and immediately went for odin for all my flash updates.
First thing is to check u have three button combo working. Just pull the battery to get out of that mode.
I'd go straight to gingerbread JPK. And with the few, clockworkmod zips you can add battery percentage and a few other nice things that aren't included.
I haven't looked back as jpk is such a great rom - memory management is sorted so no need for autokillet or taskmanagers.

Where to find the official Bell Canada Froyo update?

I tried to update my Bell Canada Vibrant with Kies and I bricked my phone
I wanted to try the Odin method to recover my phone with the official Bell Canada Vibrant Froyo ROM but I couldn't find one yet... is there a place where I can download it?
BTW, does this ROM available in the update.zip format? I can get into the 3 buttons Download mode/Recovery mode no problem, so if such file exists I would like to try that first instead of the Odin method.
Failing that, is there a custom ROM that I can try on my Bell Vibrant?
Thanks!
Samfirmware.com has tons of ROMS. However you have to sign up as a member.
Download the XXJPU file. This is a 3 part compressed file that will need to be flashed via ODIN. You will need to check "re-partition". Also make sure you use the 512pit file. Once this ROM is flashed via ODIN, you will then download and flash the XXJL2 ROM (one file only). This was the last version Bell had. I hear KC2 is now out, which you can update via Kies.
I just downgraded from MIUI, and used this method about two weeks ago and all went well. From JL2 however, I flashed Darky's 9.5 and love the battery life and snappiness of my phone.
Although I'm not recommending you one custom ROM over another, In the past I have used Darky's 9.3, Ultimate ROM, Simply Honey and also cooked my own custom ROMS via romkitchen.org. I came back to Darkys ROM due to personal preference.
If you have any questions, or are looking for the files, I still have them on my computer and could make them available for you.

The official as in branded network rom that came with your phone unless you backed it up you will need a Google search .
Samfirmware does not carry many branded roms .
But i doubt if you will find one as nearly nobody saves them .
Possible work around is to flash stock 2.1 Eclair from samfirmware .
Then spoof registry to pretend its the correct ID and update to
Bell Canada Vibrant Froyo.

samfirmware.com does have the latest bell 2.2 UGKC1 available.. also search these forums you will find an odin flashable version. no you cannot us update.zip you need to use odin

Help an old-timer

I'd first like to apologize if these questions have already been answered. I haven't flashed a rom in nearly a year. When at&t put 2.2 on the market I downloaded it. I absolutely hate it. It's worse than 2.1 by far (with the exception of netflix). I wanted to flash to fasty's rom and noticed the instructions said I needed to be on 2.2. Has the process for flashing changed? Can I still use odin 1 click stock? Are there any stickies or threads that already address this issue?

Unless its a gingerbread (2.3.x) rom all you need is cwm and then you can flash it, no matter what version of android you are currently on. If its a gingerbread rom you will need to flash bootloaders with odin first also.
If you have used odin one click before and your phone didn't spaz out (some newer phones do) then it is fine to keep using it to return to stock if desired....

Problem with my Bell i9000M (Needs serious help)

Hi XDA developers,
I'm a newbie. I've been searching posts on xda and still couldn't remedied the problem. I currently have the i9000m from Bell Canada. I upgraded my i9000m to 2.3.3 Gingerbread earlier in Kies. Recently, I've been trying to unlock my phone and without rooting, the best solution seems to be going back to Eclair, so I followed the youtube tutorial by djeddieone and tried to go back to Eclair using Odie. It basically flashes a rom (I suspect that's a T-mobile rom that shouldn't be flashed onto my phone) in Odin. My phone no longer boots and cannot get into recovery mode. (When I try to start the phone, there are random colour dots showing on the screen.) The only mode that works seems to be downloading mode. I think I need to flash a stock rom from bell, but the link on sammobile (i9000ugjk3) seems to be expired and cannot be downloaded. So i'm trying to find alternative ways to see how to remedy this problem.
Thanks in advance.
I highly doubt that Bell will release a new update for the i9000m. You are better finding a newer rom (JVT or newer) and flashing that via Odin. Im using CM9 nightlies (but I feel it has too many bugs for daily use). If you can find a newer rom that is tweaked, you should notice better battery, faster, etc.
Just my $0.02
Hey I had similar issue - tried flashing new firmware w/odin & stuck with download only... I finally went to a Bell store to send it in, but they were able to use new firmware recovery software to re-flash stock gb2.3.3! I just said Kies messed-up the phone... Anyway, it will get you back to stock functionality. Good luck!

Since you can still get into download mode, you're OK.
You can download the UGKG3 ROM files from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
Search for UGKG3.
The file is in 7Zip format. If you don't have something to unpack it, get IZArc.
Flash the 3 files and you should be up and running.

After you restore your phone to KG3 via Odin/Download mode per Black Rose's link earlier in this thread, you should be back where you started on KG3.
Then from KG3 ( 2.3.3),
I suggest:
1) Use SuperOneClick to root your phone (SuperOneClick can also UNroot your phone later if you want).
2) Use Galaxy_S Unlock by Helroz available on the G-store.
This worked well for me with no problems.
And just for reassurance, NEVER flash a ROM that is not explicitly for the i9000/i9000M to this device.

[Q][GT-i9000m] noob and other questions

Hi, I flashed my phone to gingerbread a while ago, not too sure how I did it, but I somehow managed to successfully . Anyways, It does function properly; however, I noticed when I restart the phone it calls itself a GT-i9000 when it starts. This is something that wasn't the same before, and I'm sure that has something to do with what you're about to help me with.
I don't think I changed the bootloader at all, which is what I am afraid of. I am interested in changing the phone back to factory settings, or if you guys have a suggestion on anything that is faster, I'd like to hear about that too!
Thanks, screen caps of settings available on request.
The GB package probably included GB bootloaders. They are backwards compatible with froyo roms if that is what you are reverting too.
Or you can Odin stock boot loaders or find a stock package that includes them.

I am not able to re flash back to stock because i formatted again and lost the files. As far as i read its a gingerbread version called XVJ1. Not sure if that helps out any.

My phone had the "m" in the boot screen when I bought it, after I rooted it, it was gone, but other than the "m" missing for 18 months, it's working great.
I'm on WEUI 4.04 with Semaphore 1.1.1 kernel and UGKG3 modem
I find it very fast and stable, battery life 1 to 3 days depending on useage
Hope this helps...
My hasn't had the m since the day after I bought it. You live in Canada right? If so the stock firmware you need is Ugkg3. Get it from the ramads firmware thread in general. Flash all three files under appropriate sections and voila back to stock gingerbread. If you want to upgrade your firmware, flash jw5 under pda but flash kg3 under phone and csc. Then root with semaphore 2.7.4. By flashing that under pda after the firmware upgrade. And top it off with flashing Dmore3.3 in cwm after. Great rom for gingerbread. Gl.
