Has anyone tried anything with the new "Ultraviolet" movie distribution via the Flixster app? The last update to flixster seems to be blocking the Nook Color from being able to play my movies (although my Galaxy S still works). Before the last update, it worked fine. Looking over the logcat, it just says "not initialized", with no details why. I've temporarily disabled root via the "Temp Root Remover" (it just renames su to mu), and have changed the build.prop's model and manufacturer to reflect samsung's Nexus S, but that didn't seem to help. I am currently running CM7 #232 nightly. Any thoughts?
liquid64, the Flixster app uses Android's DRM library (http-//developer.android.com/reference/android/drm/package-summary.html) for streaming of UltraViolet Digital Copy, and the library requires non-rooted devices as a security measure for DRM.
In the upcoming version of the Flixster app (v3.8), support will be added for Nook Color. So if you are dual-booting your device between the original OS and CM7, then you should be able to stream movie in the original OS.
Hope this clarifies your question.
Thanks for the reply. As I have mentioned in the original post, I have disabled root on my nook color, and am still unable to play the movie. My Samsung Captivate is rooted as well, and using the steps above to un-root the device, I am able to play the movies on it.
Hey guys, I wanted to see who all here has picked up a chrome cast and what your thoughts are on it so far?
I really dig it, quick connection and ability to play things with no noticeable degradation or lag. And with HBO Go and Hulu Plus both coming soon it is going to be really nice.
One issue though that I have found is that the previous version of Google Play Movies allowed you to play locally stored videos on your device through the app. With the update to work with Chromecast this option is removed even when trying to do it on your device only so you have to use an external app such as the gallery or MX player etc.
Any word or people working on creating a cracked version of google movies or a work around to allow other apps to chromecast?

That is pretty slick and works for home made videos (although obviously he isn't releasing it at the moment) but as is it also wouldn't solve the problem of being able to fling other movies you have to the TV.
IE I own a digital copy of Ironman and have it on my tablet, before the google movie app would play it internally. With the update to enable chromecast it no longer shows up to even be played on the phone through the app, let alone fling it to the TV.
Hi,
Just looking into rooting my Chromecast I have read some threads but wanted to know can you use a firmware that lets you use the CC like a Android TV box or even with a different firmware can you just cast from a phone/tablet?
Thanks,
Fayraz
short answer....NO!
Doesn't work like that!
There's now a real Chromecast clone from Amazon, does that contain the necessary vulnerabilities to root, install local apps etc?
And stream from YouTube, that's the only service I use of those for which the CC is intended officially.
Can't say anything about the Amazon CCast clone since I don't know much about it...
But what you are looking for s more like the Amazon Fire, and Roku type system.
CCast saves no apps on the unit, they are all loaded from the Internet.
What you really should look at is one of those Android's on a stick that can pretty much run any android app plus have some of the target features of a CCast with software that supports it such as Plex.
There may also be software out there that makes any android device targetable in the same way a CCast is...
Basically what the title says. For some reason, Google Play Movies does not want to work on my Tab S2 when it is rooted? Is there a way to force it to run? All of the other play apps (Music, Books etc.) work just fine, it's just Movies that's acting up. I've already tried RootCloak, but that didn't work.
Also, I just thought of this. Has anyone tried downloading a movie from google play movies while the device is rooted, and see if it plays?
I know this is old, but I have a somehow different but jet similar issue, because I when I had my device rootet on default firmware there was no problem, but now on AOSPA I can watch, but not download any movies.
Hi, first of all, apologize if my query violates any rules of the forum and if so, ask the moderator to delete the post if appropriate.
Long time ago I do not have a visa, so lately I have looked for few orthodox ways to get accounts in netflix. Lately when using the netflix app connected to my chromecast and watching netflix movies, the account is blocked, however, if the account I use to view content by the netflix app or pc does not happen this, only when I connect to the Chromecast account block it ...
Anyone know what this will be?
PS: I have the first generation chromecast
does you want to use Netflix in the same country where is you Abo? Netflix used Geoblocking. That was one reasons, that a root access was needed for the CC. Uncomfortable I must go to Stock with one CC, because Google use another file structure and the update freeze the CC during update process
