I flashed the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127249 and I love the increased battery life. But, one problem I've noticed is that when I have the samsung keyboard XT9 selected and when I'm typing in an email for some reason the first character of the word gets dropped. (eg. type "the" it puts in "he"). Sometimes it will do it in my SMS messages but not all the time. Also, if I chose the Android keyboard it doesn't have that problem but then again it doesn't have the XT9 feature. I like the XT9 features and think it must have something to do with that. Has anyone else experience this and/or know how I can fix this?
Thanks, in advance for any help or direction that you can give me.
If I turn off the XT9 predictive text under samsung keyboard then I don't have the problem I checked and it's the 2.3.3 samsung keyboard. But, I like the XT9 predictive text feature and find it odd that it only happens under the email program. Is there a way that I can reinstall this .apk?
Try out this keyboard. Personally, it's one of my favorites.

Thanks, Born but I'm not really looking for another keyboard option. I would like to fix the stock keyboard that I already like and used
I wonder if it has something to do with the mail client? Anyone else have this problem? Maybe I'm asking the wrong question. Is anyone else that has flashed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127249 (I897UCKF1 Odin-1-Click Gingerbread 2.3.3 w/ Fugu Root) had any problems using the stock samsung keyboard along with the XT9 advance features in the stock email client? Please confirm that it's working for you or not. That will at least help me determine if it's a bad/bug in the ROM or something that I did in flashing it. Thanks, to all who answer!
Custom rom and use samsung keyboard
How to use samsung keyboard on my custom rom ? o_0
HELP ME !>.<
i use ics2 rom
I think that was one of my major problems with KF1 too. That, and my touchscreen sensitivity was really poor.
I too like the Samsung keyboard, and don't like the newer versions though. I think the best version of the Samsung keyboard came out of KH3, or KI2. I've had problems with the newer versions with auto-captitalization not working correctly. I always have to backspace after ending a sentence with a period to get the first letter of the next sentence to capitalize. Also even if I have next word prediction unchecked, it still tries to predict quite often.
Now that I think about it, I am pretty sure it was KH3, because that's the only 2.3.4 that I have.

I'd like to use the HTC Touch keyboard on my Tilt for the times that I don't want to slide out the keyboard, but installing it seems to break the autocorrect feature when I am using the hardware keyboard. I see a few other people mentioning this in various threads, but I have yet to see any mention of a solution to this problem. I've tried all sorts of combinations of enabling and disabling autocorrect and various xt9 features, but the only way I can get autocorrect back is by uninstalling the HTC Touch keyboard.
By autocorrect, I'm referring to the ability to type in "il" and have it automatically change to "I'll"
Hi - did anybody find a solution to this? I've been searching high and low!
I'm in exactly the same boat - I love HTC keypad as it really helps me use the Kaiser one-handed, but I really miss the auto-correct on the hardware keyboard.
Is there a version of this SIP that doesn't break auto-correct?
I tried the HTC phonepad, but just couldn't get used to it after using the newer Keypad.
I would love to have a good T9 style SIP, but also have autocorrect on the hardware keyboard......anybody that can help?
Thanks!
I'd noticed that too, quite annoying as the touch keypad is so useful.

I too found the same issues yet I loved the T9 input using the touch pad. I removed the xT9 one and installed this one instead.
You still get T9 and it works fast too. The internal keyboard auto correct also works with it too.
Is also made by HTC but can't remember where I found it. May have been on here before or recently.
I've been earching for a solution to this as well for months now. The autocomplete that XT9 disables is part of wm6 which it calls "word completion." When XT9 is installed via htc keypad, word completion ceases to work along with the feature that auto-fills contacts as you start to type a new SMS.
Thanks for posting that pkonepad cab, but unfortunately.that' the sip that radatia mentioned above. The buttons on the new HTC touch phonepad are bigger and easier to use.
What we really need is someone here that knows some programming to somehow alter the touch phonepad so that xt9 can be toggled on and off (without a registry change and restart), or better yet somehow change it to use a T9 like the phonepad's instead of xt9...
I have exact same problem. I love the htc virtual keyboard because became useful. However once I installed it, the hardware keyboard word completion no longer work I need that too because I use it.
I have another question, do anyone know if I can make the default windows word completion to auto select the top most word suggested list so I can just enter space bar to select it. Now I always have to use down key to select the word 1st. Not efficient.
Just wanted to bump this topic. There have got to be others out there who share our frustration... and someone who can put an end to it!
I've given up on the HTC Keypad, much as I like it and it making the device usable one-handed.
Have moved onto the PocketCM Keyboard as my preferred SIP just so that I can still keep word completion when using the hardware keyboard.
Hope that someone posts here if a solution is eventually found......
oh man!
I'm the opposite.. how I wish the hardware keyboard is not auto correct enabled when I use it.
I've tried dis-abling the auto correct etc.. dun seem to work..
now using Resco keyboard..
it's the next best thing, but kinda defeats the purpose of getting the tytn II in the first place.
Yes the touch keyboard has many issues when used on kaiser. i can't get autocomplete to work with the hardware keyboard either unfortunately.
I do know that "multiword completion" in the xt9 settings or whatever is a bad thing and causes other problems, so i uncheck that. But, still can't figure out how to get autocomplete to work.
I spent a lot of time searching and installing/uninstalling these things to try and find a perfect mix, no luck though. It's still QUITE usable for me, but i would like auto complete for hardware keyboard, though, i dont think i'd use it as i type realy fast anyways with it.
It's quite hard to justify buying a keyboard when we are able to install a free one that *almost* does what we want! pcmkeyboard with iphone buttons and XL touch skin is good, but i am realy starting to like xt9.
:-( i have this problem now and love the keyboard...
Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone else really liked the new stock IME included in Froyo.
I tried swype, SwiftKeys and the Htc IME, but I just keep coming back to the stock froyo keyboard.
With the new two rows of pop-up keys and the ease of switching languages, I find it to be the easiest to use. Definitely more intelligent than the iPhone keyboard.
Only problem I have when compared to typing on the iPhone is that it will miss keys if I type too fast, but all the ime I've tried do that. It's likely more of a touchscreen issue there.
Just curious if other people were enjoying it as well.
The one problem I have is the fact that it doesn't support the Canadian French keyboard layout. Typing in azerty is just terrible! Lots of bug reports in to Google on that point, but no movement yet.
if swype didn't cut it I really don't know what will, smart keyboard is really good and fast try it if you haven't already.
and to answer your question, I honestly loath it. but you see that's the beauty of android, if you don't like anything just change it lol.
I keep coming back to it also, does exactly what I want it too and is easy to use, used swype on my old windows mobile phone but see no need for it here. the text predicition means I rarely type near the full word.
In portrait mode I use swype, while in landscape mode I use the stock keyboard. Does anyone know any light half-qwerty keyboard for portrait use? I tried HTC_IME but it had that little bug that wouldn't register the word "IF". I wonder if it still exists in the latest version. Also is there an original HTC_IME lying around somewhere? I want something light and not as heavy as the modded one.
Tried Swype once.. not for me.
Been on stock ever since coz it's allright...
I can't get away from the HTC IME keyboard cause it has T9 standard keypad, and I'm just so much faster typing on that.
Tried Swype a while ago. But since FroYo I've been very happy with stock...Especially in landscape.

I like it. I use HTC ime too but I use stock alot. The reason you're more accurate on iPhone is probably because of its genius unseen system whereby it predicts the next letter you're going to type and resizes all of the keys' pressable areas based on the odds they will be selected. The greater the odds the bigger the pressing area. If the stock android KB implemented that it would be perfect. Thick keys is similar but not very good so I'm guessing there might not be a copyright issue. I know android indicated its awareness that the android kb needs a lot of work so maybe gingerbread will bring some enhancements...

can you tell me what setting you got ticked
Hi all,
I want to start by saying that this forum has been very helpful to my in customising my GT-I9000, and I want to thank you all for this help. I have had a Galaxy S for about a week and I am really liking the flexibility of this phone. But without your efforts, there would not be near as much flexibility.
So I have a question about language support across different firmwares. It requires a little explanation, so I apologies in advance if it is a bit too much text. I use linux a fair bit, but I am new to Android so I dont know many of the details of the system yet. I am a n00b, however, I want to show that I actually put effort into what I want to do instead of just asking for someone else to do it for me from the beginning.
I would like to have the ability to send SMS in Hebrew from the SGS native messaging software. I find no problem inputting in Hebrew using various Keyboards such as AnySoftKey. However, the sms is received as a series of question marks. I guess it is a lack of character support, probably somewhere between typing the text in Hebrew, and the phone transmitting it across the networks.
I could install a firmware from an Israeli network as they have Hebrew input on their firmware versions. However, these are not very up-to-date and I would rather use a newer firmware (I have JPX with Darky's Gingerbread 6.0 mod, which is very up-to-date ).
I want to take it step by step, so I think I should start with the Keyboard input.
AnySoftKeboard works well for Hebrew input, and the text it makes works in all apps except the Messaging app (although it looks just fine on my side). But Perhaps the Samsung Keyboard would work?
I have looked at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=796854
It describes methods of porting Keyboards from one firmware version to another. This is specific to porting the Eclair keyboard to Froyo.
So I tried to apply this logic to my needs. But I have difficulties knowing which firmwares have Hebrew language input support, yet alone a keyboard that is compatible with JPX. I tried with the keyboard from firmware I9000JHJP8 (only one I am sure has Hebrew support), but the porting following the instructions in the thread did not work. I am sure with some trial an error (and probably lots and lots of error ) I would eventually be able to get it to work.
So before I start trying to get it to work, I would like to know if you think that changing the keyboard would make any difference, or, if the problem lays somewhere else?
Thanks in advance for the help.
Hey. I hate to bump this but its gone to many pages from the first.
I wont bump again as I guess there may be no answer for this question.
Still Should I bother trying to convert the keyboard as i suggested above?

I have just started to use criskelo's rom and have encountered a problem that i haven't come across in any other roms. I like to use the samsung default keypad when texting with predictive turned on but for some reason it won't work on this rom. Every time i try to use or configure it the keypad will still only type numbers and not letters.
Anyone got any ideas about what i'm doing wrong or have overlooked? I would appreciate any help.
Couldn't post this on the thread for his rom because of newbie restrictions.
