Hey guys
I set up an APN for my Internet service which works fine.
I then set up a second APN for my MMS service which also works fine.
(running stock 2.2 Android on my O2X)
Here is the problem... I can only have one service operating at any one time.
The APNs have radio buttons beside their names which means you can only select one APN at a time.
I have to switch out of 3G to send and receive MMS.
My telco has informed me that I cannot combine the Internet and MMS settings on a single APN to prevent the need to switch APNs.
They have told me their must be a setting on the handset to make both APNs work at the same time.
Does this make sense to any of you?
To me it seems logical to have a single APN handling both Internet and MMS.
Is it a matter of setting the correct "APN type" in the APN settings?
Thanks for any help.
Just merge your them.
Apn type should then be: default, supl, mms

Thanks for the reply.
What would you set as the APN... internet or mms or something else?
Should work with whatever you want. Its just a name

Thanks again for your help.
I greatly appreciate any assistance.
Unfortunately, it is not so simple.
My telco is definitely using the APN field as more than just a name.
If I do not set APN as "internet", the 3G stops working.
Similarly, I need to use "mms" in the APN field for mms services.
So it seems to demand one or the other.
My telco (amaysim) gave me the following settings:
INTERNET SETTINGS
Tap APN and enter internet and tap Ok
Ensure Proxy is Not Set
Ensure Port is Not Set
Ensure Username is Not Set
Ensure Password is Not Set
Ensure Server is Not Set
Ensure MMSC is Not Set
Ensure MMS Proxy is Not Set
Ensure MMS Port is Not Set
Ensure MCC is 505
Ensure MNC is 02
Tap Authentication Type and select Not Set
Tap APN Type and select Not Set
MMS SETTINGS
Tap APN and enter mms and tap Ok
Ensure Proxy is Not Set
Ensure Port is Not Set
Ensure Username is Not Set
Ensure Password is Not Set
Ensure Server is Not Set
Tap MMSC and enter http://mmsc.optus.com.au:8002/
Tap MMS Proxy and enter 61.88.190.10
Tap MMS Port and enter 8070
Ensure MCC is 505
Ensure MNC is 02
Tap Authentication Type and select Not Set
Tap APN Type and select Not Set
So my telco requires 2 APNs to be set up, but the O2X only seems to use 1 APN setting at a time.
This means I have to switch to the mms APN whenever I want to use MMS.
Can the O2X be set to read 2 APN settings at the same time?
If not, I have to merge the settings into a single APN.
When I try to merge the settings into a single APN, I get stuck with the APN field.
The telco wants APN set as "internet" or "mms".
I have tried setting APN to:
"internet, mms"
"internet + mms"
"internet and mms"
...but this stops the internet from working.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Either to get 2 APNs working at the same time, or to merge the settings into 1 APN.
Thank you in advance.

Please differentiate between "APN type" and "APN name".
I have APN type as "default, supl" for internet and "mms" for mms.
The MMS one does not even have a radio option.

You have 2 separate APNs (one for internet and one for MMS) set up that work simultaneously on an O2X with Android 2.2?

Thanks for your help HerrKuk
I spoke to my Telco again today and they continue to state that the internet and MMS settings for their service cannot be combined into a single APN.
They told me that other Android handsets do not have the same problem and can manage two separate APNs.
At this stage I think I will just leave it on the internet APN by default and switch APNs temporarily whenever I have to send and receive an MMS.
A messy solution, but maybe this will do until the 2.3 upgrade is finally released by LG.

how do we get MMS without the t-mobile g1 data plan?
I dont think its possible. I guess you can get Chomp SMS and pay for it there which could be cheaper but i dont know if it supports MMS...
i cant really help you . but i can say that its worth the 20 or 30 bucks for the internet plan
Agreed with G-Fetus. Plus you can always tell people to e-mail it to your gmail and you can download the attachment from there.
ok this worked for me...
Goto
Menu -> Settings -> Wireless Controls -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names -> T-Mobile US
Make sure you go into T-mobile US and not any other settings.
Change the settings to the following:
Name: T-Mobile US
APN: wap.voicestream.com
proxy: 216.155.165.050
port: 8080
Username: not set (delete everything in this field)
Password: not set (delete all here too)
Server: not set (delete the *)
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS Proxy: 216.155.165.050
MMS Port: 8080
MMC: 310
MNC: 260
APN type: not set
Restart your phone. Now your MMS should work.
*Troubleshooting*
1. If you’re having trouble still, go into mobile networks and enable ‘data roaming’ and ‘use only 2G’
- I've tried this and it seems to be working for me.. this is the only solution i know..

does this still work? i heard t-mobile blocked G1s from using this
it still works on mine..
I tried that on my phone because I am having the same problem. Doesn't work for me. Although I didn't edit the T-Mobile US APN, I made a new one, if that somehow matters.
If anyone has figured out anything on how to get mms messages to work without a data plan please let me know. Everything else on my phone works perfectly.
I figured my new friend [girl] had sent the picture to my gmail instead of text. I'd like this to.
Does anyone know how i can enable 2 apns at the same time or make it so they auto switch from internet to mms here are my settings from the provider.
I have tried to set apn type to mms on the mms but it wont send or recive the files.

Thanks for asking the question.... I am very interested in this too, and would appreciate if anyone can answer this.
It just works on mine... for the APN for MMS, try moving that stuff to the top spots in the list that are for "regular" data... The "MMS" specific stuff probably is useless outside of the T-Mobile network.
i have viaero wireless which is a local gsm carrier
Go to a store and work with an agent until you have the correct settings figured out. I set phones up all the time for people with unlocked devices, I work as a cell phone salesman, and it isn't a hard task. I don't know your carriers settings, even what you gave isn't enough info, and ultimately it is a matter of testing this and that... For example, like I already said, try entering the MMS settings up top in the "internet" portion instead of the supposed "MMS" spots.
The G1 switches automatically to the right data account when doing MMS, assuming you have an account set up correctly. ie, I have my internet APN profile and my MMS profile. I have the internet selected as my primary, but when I send a MMS it auto detects that account is working right and tests the other APN's I have until it finds one that works.
those are the only settings the techs give me they said that android didnt support 2 apns at the same time. That you have to enable one or other but i tried a hero rom and it worked but the rom was too slow so went back to another one.
Data (evdo) does not work on my wifes droid flashed to cricket...i have a feeling thay it has to do with the APN settings.every time you open the internet it has a proxy setting saying something with verison and no evdo even in notification bar.....can someone help a poor noobie???

On your phone, from the main homescreen (first screen you see when your phone is fully started up) press the Menu button (has 3 lines, small, 1 longer line on top) select "Settings", "Wireless & Networks", "Mobile NEtworks", "Access Point Names". From this screen you should see either a list of names. Mine says "AT&T - wap.cingular, etc. If you do not see anything, select Menu (4 lines) and Press "New APN" from there it will list all the info for you to manually input your phone carriers settings. Should look like this:
Name:
APN:
Proxy:
Port:
Username:
And the list goes on. Just input the information I listed above with the corresponding headlines.

Well i can get to "mobile network"but it gives me no option to add apns nor a list of them.in the "mobile network settings"its gives me two boxes to check "data enabled" and"data roaming" and finally a"system select". i hit the menu button and still no options pop up....thanks for your time!

Hmm... strange. You should be able to add an APN. Are you able to select one of the two options you do have and edit it? Try pressing and holding one the option and see if a screen pops up to edit the APN. If you can edit, then you should be able to simply fill in the correct info.
Well i figured out how to acess the apns thru voice dialer, changed settings, then i rebooted the phone....still no data put the apn correctly, maybe im on the wrong track...

Hi I tried to look for my issue on the forum, but seem to have problem with my MMS, receiving or sending. I set up my APN, so I am able to get internet and data, but I left the MMS section alone. So I tried another APN setting with cingular info, but still unable to send or receive MMS. Any help would be great thanks.

Doesn't this mean I have to manually change my network setting to send out MMS?
Update: Okay tried what you said, so it automatically select the AT&T Phone. But still doesn't seem to work.
Thank Sebring5, finally figure it out after doing a little more research.
I guess APN is like you said and that should allow for all internet and data, which I already had. But for MMS portion, I needed to add APN: wap.cingular and finally started to get my messages. Thanks.
Yeah...these are my settings also. Gotta make sure you have an imei the system recognizes as hspa+ for these to work.
Btw... I don't have port 80 set, and I think it's faster that way.

Hey all,
I picked up an HTC One on SaskTel last week. I noticed that when I work out of town (in range of only one or two cell towers) my reception just sucked. I was seeing some bizzare behaviour where Exchange, Gmail, Play Store and most Google services would refuse to sync - there would be timeouts and "sync is experiencing problems" errors. Other apps like Google Chrome and reddit is fun worked perfectly. Very frustrating.
I started Googling and playing with APN settings. I think I've found a combination that works, although I couldn't tell you why... but now I don't get any problems at all.
Anyway, if you're having problems on SaskTel with any Android smartphone, maybe give these settings a try.
Code:
APN - proxy.stm.sk.ca
Proxy - mig.sasktel.com
Port - 8080
Username - (not set)
Password - (not set)
Server - (not set)
MMSC - http://mms.sasktel.com
MMS proxy - mig.sasktel.com
MMS port - 8080
MMS protocol - WAP 2.0
MMC - 302
MNC - 780
Authentication Type - "PAP or CHAP"
APN Type - * (enter the "*" character in the field)
APM protocol - IPv4
Network mode - GSM / WCDMA / LTE Auto
I'm hoping someone stumbles across this with a search and finds it useful!
Thanks very much for this bit of info.. I've been having the same problem as you and the info provided on sasktels' Facebook page didn't provide me with a resolution.. This is what they had suggested for settings:
"There is a confirmed issue with some HTC devices and the Google Play Store.
This issue can be resolved by creating an APN with the Proxy setting remaining blank.
APN Settings can be found: Settings > Mobile Network > Access Point Names > Menu (top right) > New APN.

I'm really glad this helped you out! To be honest I was not sure if my APN settings fixed my problem, or if it was the unlocking/rooting stuff I was doing. Good to get the confirmation this works.
Holy. I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I was ripping my hair out over this. I found inet.stm.sk.ca to work better than pda. Haven't tried proxy.
Though this issue appears to be fixed on sasktel's end now.
