Hello. I'm sure this has been asked many times, and I apologize for adding another, but I still can't seem to find a solution to this. So the new market app v3.0.27 (is that even the latest version?) doesn't show all the apps, particularly in the "Top Free" section. It also won't allow me to download certain applications like Google Books. The market was running fine just a couple of days ago, but I don't know what's going on now. I tried clearing market cache and google services data but that didn't work ether. Any suggestions?
I am currently running Phiremod 6.3 with the transformbread theme.
Thanks in advance
This is happening to me as well. So far I've been unable to get Flash and Facebook as well as a few others. If I figure it out I'll update.

You can always try uninstalling the market updates. Or installing an old vending.apk
Use search, you'll find TONS of posts relating to this in the past couple weeks.
HRDLYWRKNG try this
First force stop market and clear the data and cache.
Go to system\build.prop
change the line qemu.sf.lcd_density=161 to 160
reboot and market should work
If you could see movies then you should be able to upgrade and download any app without issues
May I know if you are in America? If you are not, try VPN. For me after upgrade to CM7, Angry Bird and many other application only appear after I used an US IP addres..
yup changing the screen density to 160 worked like a charm. Thanks again guys
Those instuctions(pdf) worked for me.
You can also switch back to 161 after you get it to work. Market took up a lot of resources after time under 160. Also had a few problems with apps like the nook app. When switched back you will still have a working market
Skip everything I just said. It worked for a little bit but now it sucks again

As I have stated elsewhere, using 240 instead of 160 to fix market and it appears to work flawlessly ( no data clearing, no app problems etc). Going on over 3 days now without having to do a single thing with the market.
Dunno why this should be the case, but market really is more stable at 240 than 160.

I don't like my icons that big. I would rather go through the lame process of changing my dpi and clearing market every few days then to be stuck at such a large dpi. Maybe I will switch to 240 when I do it but it's not going to stay that way

Anyone else noticing that since getting the new market, multiple apps on the Nook Color won't update? They just show open, and I presume would not let you install them at all?
The new Windows Phone 7 clone market seems to show apps even if you can't install them, so sounds like that's what's going on but can't figure out why.
Waze, Facebook, Wifi Analyzer.. I think I saw another one too.
Solution is found, although still a tad quirky. You must have the new market and follow this procedure:
skwalas said:
Ah hah! You are correct. Clearing market data at 161 caused me to lose my apps again. So it seems the full process is as follows: (and note I've never force closed the app, not sure why that should be necessary.
1) set dpi to 160 in build.prop
2) reboot
3) clear market app data (force close first may help?)
4) restart market, accept terms, let it rebuild data at 160 dpi
5) profit

And another procedure, similar, with a few extra steps.

If you update your CM7 or otherwise go back to 161 DPI, the market will eventually stop letting you update again. You can redo the procedure above to fix it. And if you you find your Apps list is empty you can try using AppBrain, it will list updates and you can update them one at a time. Not sure about installing new apps that otherwise would be "incompatible" this way, however.
Thanks to everyone that figured this stuff out, the two posts above are only examples which seem to work, there are other folks who started the ball rolling towards a solution.
New market updates multiple apps for me.
Only problem is that sometimes even if some app is already updated, it still shows it at updating list.
i constantly have to clear data for the new market to work properly. Have you tried that? I know after I clear data I get a notification that updates are available.

Oh, sure, it's updating some apps.. Just some are showing up without the ability to update.
Like I know at least a few apps have updated and they don't show up as needing updates. Or look at Appbrain, you can always see app updates there regardless of the market.
Seems like it's just filtering more apps than it used to. I'm about to remove the new market, it sucks anyway.

Installed automatically on my NC.. Lucky me. There are also apk's floating around.
I'm having a similar problem since updating to nightly 142. Certain icons are no longer visible in Launcher, Advanced Uninstaller, or Titanium Backup. When I visit the Market I'm not given the download box in the header or an update option. Almost as if the app is incompatible with the device. I tried the Applications>manage apps> market> clear cache; clear data procedure with no different result. I did get the message when returning to Market, so I guess I cleared something. The effected apps ( that I'm concerned about ) are Facebook and, of course, Angry Birds. Couple others as well. Thanks for any suggestions

Yes, I can see some Vendor (Vending?).apk floating around the net but no clue which version they are.

Didn't help the issue at hand here for me either, unfortunately..
Sorry you're having the same issues. I also posted to the cyanogen forums and am still waiting for another reply to the post. That's where the Titanium Backup suggestion came from. Here's hoping for another suggestion here.
It doesn't seem like the market notifies you if an app needs a manual update due to changing permissions anymore. Also I get a Appstore and market both saying I need to update Amazon mp3 and after I update one the other app store will still say it's not updated so you have to update again in order to clear the two out

I am having the same issue as the OP. Agenda Widget Plus and Facebook disappeared from my "MyApps" list but can be found by searching. I have the new market and going into settings to clear data and cache for market did not help. Had been working without issue previously. I am running n146.

I disabled MarketUpdater.apk last night and uninstalled Market updates and I STILL am having problems with SOME apps.
Oddly, I can see Waze again, but I still cannot 'see' the Plus version of Android Agenda Widget and a few others. I CAN see the free version of Android Agenda Widget, go figure. For some reason I can usually see apps in AppBrain that need updating, but those apps have also disappeared from AppBrain, so I'm not sure what I'm missing currently.
Damn you Google, what are you doing?
Same situation for me. Went to a backup of an earlier nightly that still had the old market and even there Agenda Widget Plus was missing. Also checked the android market web site and it shows Agenda Widget as incompatible with NC. How does the market determine whether an app is compatible with a device? I contacted the Agenda Widget developer and he said he had not changed anything.

I'd kinda like to know that as well. When I originally downloaded the crappy Facebook app I had no problem. But when I go to the market on the website now it says it is not compatible even though it works fine. I suspect now that the market is "device aware" any of my installed apps that get updates will not show if the app is no longer considered compatible so I will be stuck with the older version.

My guess is that Facebook can use the GPS, or Microphone, Camera... some hardware we don't have.
This is new behavior, at least changed behavior, and it's very annoying.
I've read that "device aware" suggestion in a few places, and decided to try the build.prop edit that I've read about elsewhere. Changed the device name to Samsung S and manufacturer to samsung. It didn't make a difference. I also can't understand why Angry Birds and Checkers could be device specific. The Market definitely knows I've got Nook because it is grayed out in the drop down box. I hope brighter minds than mine can come up with a work around.
Regarding this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196417
Thanks for pointing out and after some more tests, seems that its all about DPI.
To fix, edit build.prop and change
Code:
qemu.sf.lcd_density=161
to
Code:
qemu.sf.lcd_density=160
then reboot.
this will change lcd density from 161 to 160. CM7 uses 161 for some reason but seems 160 will get all the blocked apps back.
After rebooting, clear market data and run market again. If you've removed/frozen the market updater app, enable it to get the new market. Those blocked apps should be available then.
Note:
160 will break market at some point per Dalingrin. I'm not sure but it works fine after several reboots so far(n154 on emmc).

Didn't know that, so thats why CM7 uses 161? Anyway, 160 seems to work fine for me(so far), I also read several ppl report 160 is good on new market. If its broken I'll back to 161, no big deal
The market will stop working with 160 in time. But if you force stop market and clear data, it will work for a while longer.
Frank
Thanks. After some more tests I can confirm that its all about lcd density. If clearing data can fix the broken market(on 160) I might still take that route--even its temporarily--instead of 161+old market.
Nice catch, hopefully this new information will lead to a permanent fix, with the lcd density at 160 the movies category now shows up for me too..
This shows that there is some really crappy coding going on over at Google...

did you clear market data?
Nice! Worked for me. Edited the file in root explorer, rebooted. Go to applications in setting to clear cache, and then clear data for the Market application.
after the market stops working do you just redo it or switch it back to get market again?
Worked for me. Found 4 items that needed updating.
Thanks
I can confirm that it's NOT all about DPI, and likely not anything to do with DPI. I tried this, rebooted, cleared market app data, got all my apps back. Then, I switched back to 161, rebooted, and STILL had all my apps. this means that 161 also shows the apps after clearing data.
Then I rebooted again (still at 161), and what-hey-presto, I've STILLLLLL got all my apps!
Screw the DPI. Just clear market app data.
I tried clearing market data without changing the DPI and got nothing back. I had to change the DPI to 160 AND clear market data. After doing both of those things. I had 14 apps that needed to updated. . . who knew?
Can this method be done without restarting? Say, an app like LCD Density to temporarily change the DPI?

Your data was set/cached at 160 and when you back to 161, market still uses old data with access to all the apps. So this does work but market might refresh the data and broken again.
You may clear data under 161 and check the result. Vice versa, if you were on 161 and just switched to 160, you also need to clear data or the market will still use old data from 161 dpi.

This appears to be correct. After changing my density to 160 in build.prop and rebooting, Market was still limited. I force closed and cleared data, then ran Market again, and had full access. I changed my density back to 187 (what I like) and rebooted, and full access persisted, but after reading the above post, I force closed and cleared Market again, and it's limited again. I just repeated the process, changing density back to 160, and full market's back.

Sorry, I'm confused. People are reporting differing results. What would need to be made persistant? 160? That's easily accomplished. But what else does changing this break?

Actually, I think results of late are pretty consistent. What I meant when making the fix persistent is how to get the "compatibility" of 160 dpi in the market data without having to actually have 160 in the build.prop (which supposedly still breaks the market eventually, per Dalingrin).
At the moment, it appears that building the market app data at 160 dpi and then reverting build.prop back to 161 works. The question is how long will it continue to work? Will any market update clear the market data? Will it just eventually pick up that it is no longer at 160? Could someone once and for all figure out WHY 160 doesn't work over the long term so we could keep build.prop at 160 permanently?
Hi all. All of the sudden (or maybe I just noticed) hardly any apps are compatible with my device on the web market.
I had the latest apk with the +1 and yellow incompatability message so uninstalled it to try and resolve the issue as I was getting the message for most apps even ones like Skype which say in the description they are compatible!
I was on kratos when I first noticed it (full restock and flash as per guide). I have wiped cache, dalvik, fixed permissions, factory reset, re flashed, smashed my head against a wall etc etc you name it- nothing works.
I like my LCD density quite low at 175 and have heard this can cause issues but this problem seems to occur even at 240. I'm on 200 now and running an older market as I'm also now running cm7 because I was sick of this happening on overcome- it seems I'm the problem though, not the Tom, otherwise everyone would have this issue. WTF is going on?! What can I do?! On the older market a massive handful of apps don't show, and on the web market pretty much anything is incompatible.
I know this type of thing is discussed in variances across different threads but it is my hope that by starting this thread anyone else who might share my problem or get it in the future or already have solved it, will be able to come here for some answers.
Hope someone can help me!

This has just started happening for me too. I have a feeling its because I don't have a SIM card in it and I'm only using it with WIFI. I've seen similar issues with owners of the P1010 which is WIFI only. I can't be sure if that's the problem but it's driving me crazy.

Could also be the new version of the market? I tried uninstalling the update but it just reinstalled straight away and the 'market autoupdate' app doesn't show up in the market for me...
Hi I have also found the same just after installing LCD density and changing it to 200 I have a sim card installed so it is nothing to do with the sim. I manage to download the apk's from other sources and love the screen at the new LCD density setting so will not be uninstalling it.
I changed my density as well and have the same issue. The solution I have found is that the old version of the market works fine, so uninstall the update, then either delete or rename marketupdater.apk.
Your market should now function properly.

It is a known issue and a problem with the app.
So, there is not a fix for it currently. What I end up doing is archiving all the magazines but the one I want to read and the archive it when I'm done and unarchive the new one. Its a long process but it works. I don't want to have to change my DPI every time I want to read. Maybe someone will decompile the API and see what they can do to it, just like the original Netflix APK.

This is a common issue after you changed the LCD density, and unfortunately, there is no real solution (that I know of).
To get around this, revert back to the native density of 213. Clear cache of Play store. All apps should be compatible as stock. You can try to go back the lower the density again. Without clearing cache of the Play store this time, you may get lucky that the Play store may *think* it is still under the default LCD density.

Yes, I have no problem launching those apps. It sounds like its just a Play Store incompatibility. Some others have reported using a dpi of 160 and not having Play Store issues, but like I said, my issue showed up a couple hours after the fact. And having changed it back to the default, my Play Store issues have not yet gone away.
After changing the settings back, force stopping play store, clearing cache and data, then rebooting, I was able to get the play store behaving properly again. But I HATE the phone UI. So I am tempted to change it back once I get the apps I want. I may give 160 a shot rather than 175.

To change your LCD density but avoid apps incompatibility, set your density back to 213.
Now, create a file in /data/local.prop and type in it :

You can change the density to whatever you want, save and reboot

Hi,
To change your LCD density but avoid apps incompatibility, set your density back to 213.
Now, create a file in /data/local.prop and type in it :
qemu.sf.lcd_density=160
You can change the density to whatever you want, save and reboot
Please press thanks if I helped you
