Has any one noticed the 4 pins on the back of the Droid 3 to the left of the battery? Is this just a standard USB port or is it some direct access to the flash/cpu for debugging (similar to JTAG)?
If it is a USB port, is it different than the side connector? (Different USB enumeration or device id information?)
Could this help in getting the almighty root on this device? (or unlock?)
I believe its for the wireless charging pad and the new cover plugs into it when installed.

purelife82 is correct. Those are contacts for the special inductive charging back cover to attach to for wireless charging.

Yes, its the inductive charging contacts. At the first moment I saw that I thought those would be for an NFC antenna, but nah - inductive charging.
Interestingly, on the Canadian D3 (XT860 4G) this area has a rubber cover and no electrical contacts. I haven't tried to lift the rubber, but for now I assume XT860 isn't compatible with the inductive charging cover.

I have just bought a cheap mains charger for the Streak from eBay (item 320593137758).
To use this charger, you need to slide 2 moveable pins to line up with the appropriate contacts on the battery. The problem is that there are no markings on either the battery or the charger, so I don't know which pin needs to connect to which contact.
I don't want to try trial-and-error for fear of damaging the battery.
Does anybody have any information which might help?
I made my own charger pin outs go like this:
from the middle of the battery where the dented part is that would be negative so it'll be like this ( - d d + ) 2 in the middle are for data don't need those
so you are looking at the far pins,
remember middle of the battery is NEGATIVE outer side is POSITIVE
Also make sure the charger is for LI-ION/POLY battery so it stops charging the battery.
I have a similar charger from ebay and it will light up the star or led when connected right.
I have us

I got one of those chargers and it bent out my pins inside the charging port. The oem charger / sync cable won't work. Having my Streak 5 fixed. Instructions say use gentle pressure to get the streak to seat properly. The issue is the port on some of them are off resulting in damagrd streaks. If its snug don't force it & use caution

Hi everyone, thought I would share a mod I did to my tablet based off this guy on Youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6QcSpZHGFs&list=UUOxsHE9Vmxb32X66EUSWkOw&index=1
Note he used a Blackberry 8900 Energizer Qi Cover. I used an Apple Iphone 3G one and removed the coil.
Step 1: CAREFULLY remove the tape and casing around the Qi coil. The plastic comes apart easily. You want to avoid damaging the board and wires when removing the tape securing it to the Iphone case.
Step 2: Remove the nexus 7 cover. It clips off quite easily once you get a grip. I found it easiest to remove the sim slot cover and pry from there, but any opening should do.
Step 3: Place the coil. Note where I placed mine I had to peel back the bronze covering to allow the coil to penetrate the back of the case. Run the wires to the NFC connector. Note the position of the wires in the photo. Be sure to insulate the wires with tape and ensure no crossed points (which shouldnt be an issue anyhow).
Step 4: Remove the Iphone connector and solder the wires to either end of the NFC noting the correct positive and negative positions.
Step 5: Test. Note that it will enter docking mode when initially connected. If the docking notice keeps popping up that means that you do not have it centered and the connection keeps re-establishing. I used the LG Qi pad from Verizon for testing. Just pop the cover back on once done, and voila!
I preferred this to the Palm Pre inductive mod since my Nexus 4 uses the Qi standard. Hope this helps some of you!
You can disable the docking screen/options via 'DayDream' mode being turned off in display settings.

I did that mod too. Used the blackberry 8900 coil. Seems like it will take a while to fully charge the battery once its dead. I'm going to see if I can find a larger coil that can put out a higher voltage.. What is your total time to recharge your Nexus 7..? I finalized the mod today and am just charging my unit for the first time now. But it seems to be getting a low volatage as its still I'm single digits and its been on the charger for an hour or so already..
I'm getting 5 to 9 an hour with the lg charger. I'll post results when my energizer arrives and is tested.
What happens if you charge via the pogo pins (ex. a dock) and charge using a charging mat at the same time? I know this is unlikely, but I'm curious if this could cause damage to the tablet.
Does this work thru a case?

It doesnt work through the thick leather Truss case I have it in, but works through tpu covers.

I've got the poetic flip case. It's a thinner plastic with leather. Think I'm sol? What if I increase the coil size? Will that increase the strength?

So cool wish I had the guts to do this.

It's very simple. This is a great mod for a beginner tinker-er
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Yep, very easy to do mod. The energizer seems to charge faster. I am going to have to test more thoroughly, but I am getting ~15% per hour with it thus far.
After more thorough testing my LG charging pad seems to average 9-13% an hour, whereas the energizer seems to only do 7-9 an hour. Decent for overnight charging, but certainly not very fast.
Two questions:
1) What's the total cost to do this. That is both a charging mat and a donor back door.
2) How much current (that's mah not voltage) do these doors provide? I'd assume they all supply 5V since that's the USB standard and most things charge that way nowadays. Do they have ratings on them or is it just the situation that they make a replacement door/back for the xxx device and you have to live with that if you have a xxx?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
The cost is that of a qi coil as described in post 1 and any qi mat.

This is great and looks simple too. This all fits under the stock back cover?

I think the reason people go with the palm setup is that you can find them for dirt cheap. What is the best/cheapest source for qi stuff?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I have been able to find the energizer base stations in clearance areas like Wal-Mart, Kmart, Target and sometimes goodwill. Any of the energizer stations are qi compatible. My wife was able to score a double station from goodwill with the BlackBerry coils for 20 bucks ya just gotta look around

Hello to all fellow i9305 owners
Can anyone out there confirm that any of the existing wireless charging mods on I9305 lte actually works?
The reason for my asking is that the my usb charging socket started to show signs of wear and tear . Basically my phones socket became very sensitive to any standard micro usb charging cable. Sometimes it works but 50% of times it doesnt. (I have tried four different cables)
The only cable that works 100% is the MHL one (HDMI-out with USB-charge) which is slightly longer and goes in deeper into the socket (making better connection). Since I've realized the issue was with the mechanical failure of the usb port I decided to explore the wireless charging methods.
There is a big thread about it (which is locked due to people misbehaving) so please do not post links to mods (I've read them all).
I even took the plunge and I have bought all the gear for palm mod (that didnt work) and the gear for QI mod (that did not work either).
Im beginning to think that either my fone is faulty (but no way of proving it since there is no official Samsung wireless charging yet) or perhaps there is something I need to do with software (custom ROM?).I am on latest rooted stock rom by Lyriquid, BTW
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

You do not need any mods you buy the wireless charging back cover and matt for a few £ on eBay or amazon

Unfortunately I have tried that (perhaps I shouldnt have used the word 'mod')
Have you actually got a working wireless charging 'thingy' on GT-I9305?
Thanks

Yes: My GT-I9305 is enhanced using the charging coil, etc., out of a Palm Pixi Touchstone back cover with a Palm Touchstone puck. I used copper tape and resoldered the contact points on the wireless charging coil so that they align with the contacts in the phone. The coil is stuck inside the unmodified original back cover using the white sticky cover from inside the Pixi, and some white duct tape to cover the copper tape extensions out to the contacts. I have reused the metal disks with the sticky coil cover to locate the back on the charging puck.
It charges at about 230 mA through my TPU back cover, slower than normal, but perfectly adequate.
The Touchstone puck is fussy about cables and USB PSUs.

Well, Thank you very much
Your post was very helpful and informative, especially the bit about the 'fussy puck'.
I will try that setup again but with different USB cables and chargers perhaps.
Im guessing there isnt any led confirming that the puck is on ?
Thanks again (thanks button pressed too)
Hi guys,
I've used the palm wireless charger with one of those stickers that you attach to the phone on top of battery. It was working perfect but you have to put the phone with this sticker exactly on the middle of the charger otherwise won't work. If you have a case on the phone won't work either. It takes to much time until it charges the battery (I've had a 4500ma ). You can check if the wireless pad works with a multimeter. Put the sticker on it and check if it gets any electricity.

Yes, now I know I need a sticker. Also as I realised I needed the sticker I thougjt I might put magnets as well too.
Then I tried this all and it was wouldn't work with my flip cover so I've attached the palm sticker to the bak of my flip-over case and put the original backing away.
Now its all brilliant . I have my phone in my case and charging wirelessly with no issues.
Those usb sockets arent really made to last, arent they
Thanks everyone who helped.

if you want a "pre-manufactured" wireless charging solution, you can also go on ebay and buy the Qi wireless receiver pad. it fits underneath the battery door as well and NFC still works. The only thing I don't like about it is that it causes a small "dome" on the battery cover so if you use a case, the more "sturdy" ones like the otterbox or the ballistic or anything that will hold its shape to overcome the slight bump.
apart from that if you're handy w/ modding and such, the palm touchstone mod is also perfect since it's insanely cheaper than anything that is offered out there.

Are you still long for wireless charger?
I have current stocks.
You can check out my Facebook page
For those with functional S View Covers, can you measure the resistor between the 2 pins that connects to the back of the phone? Or has anyone reverse engineered how the S View Cover is recognized by the phone?
Also where can I find the specs for the 5 pins on the back of the phone with back cover removed? I'm assuming the top 2 pins are for 5v power (wireless charging cover).
Im not thinking many if anybody has that cover yet I've been searching everywhere stateside
