i did a cwm-backup (v. 4.0.0.9) and now my phone doesn´t work anymore!!! please help!!
all processes/apps in autostart are closed with unexpected error.
70% apps closed, when i try to start.
din´t make a restore, just wanted to backup my system which i all my apps (it took hours to have it the way i wanted.
installed all the apps again, configured the widgets etc, took hours again.
then again a cwm-backup and everything damaged again.
can anybody help? maybe there´s a way to repair the system without start from the beginning??
why does a backup change the system (and destroys it) ???
i use the external sd as sdcard ( i replaced the vold.fstab) maybe this has something to do with it?
(rom: 13.8-11 MoDaCo FR19 Fear Edition 12.6)
A backup doesn't change anything at all, it only reads from the phone. It's either a co-incidence or something else happened in recovery.
I don't know what causes this error but try to restore your backup.
i use the external sd as sdcard

I thought this is regular. Isn't it?
thats exactly what i thaught too.
but i had no problems with the running system, i could switch the phone off and an again without problems too.
just after a cwm-backup it happens. did it twice...
can´t explain it to myself, but it must change/destroy something!

no, in stock rom the internal sd card is called sdcard and the path for the external is sdcard/_external-sdcard (or something like that).
in cm7-roms it´s like i got it.
restoring the backup causes the errors again (only data-backup for an running system too)

I am having issues with my phone. I flashed the SlideItUp beta rom and it loaded fine. However when I wiped to flash another Rom, I get a bootloop for any rom I flash. I am not sure why. I have several Nandroid backups and I have been able to get 2 of them to boot up completely. However, I am not able to modify any files on my SD card. I cannot download anything, I get message that memory is full. I cannot delete anything, it shows deleted, however if I reboot the file is back and untouched.
What suggestions does anyone have to resolve this issue?

I experienced the same issue (but with what ROM I can't recall). I got different error messages though.
I had to backup my files to my computer, complete wipe of phone, reformat sdcard, repartition mysdcard, put files back on sdcard and then flash the ROM of my choice. No problems since.
Thanks! That was what I was thinking my next step would be. Just do not like doing it!

Same here.
But just like everything in life....you gotta do what you gotta do.
SD card connection
I have heard of a few people having a dirty connector in their SD socket. My problem was that after less than a year, something physically broke, so my socket wasn't making a good connection to the card consistently. So I got the whole phone replaced and it works great now.
I would start with cleaning the files and repartitioning. If that isn't working, maybe blowing the dust out or cleaning the contacts somehow.
I will try this next if repartitioning does not work. I have removed my memory card maybe 3 times since I have gotten the phone.

Hi all
My Galaxy S went nuts. Something is very wrong with it. I will try to provide as much details as possible.
Today i was using it as usual, sending messages on facebook, reading email... and suddenly my mail client freaked out and force-closed. This has never happened before (i use K9 mail), so i just restarted it, only to see that there is no more messages in inbox. Trying to "load more" got force close again.
So i thought, OK, **** happens - clear data, uninstall, reinstall. However, when i cleared the data something weird begun to happen. Apps started force closing one by one.
OK, i thought, **** happens - rebooting the phone should help. Only that it didn't help - apps still force closed.
OK, i thought, **** happens - clear data of every app, uninstall and reinstall. I got backups anyway. So i cleared all the data, uninstalled all i had and rebooted. However, apps still force closed, and when i went to app manager - surprise surprise! - all the apps i uninstalled a cluple of minutes ago were still there.
Now this was already kinda freaky, but OK, **** happens - i rebooted into clockwork (i have voodoo lagfix) and wiped the hell out of my phone. Rebooted - but the apps i uninstalled were still there, even after full wipe! Now i escapes me how exactly ANY app (let alone all apps) could survive wipe to factory defaults.
Just to be sure that i'm not dreaming, i rebooted to clockwork once again, wiped everything two times and restored a backup from a month ago. The apps were still there.
I am going to try disabling lagfix as a last resort, but for now i am out of ideas, as this is clearly way out of line with what could be considered normal.
Now to the details of what i have installed - froyo, voodoo lagfix, superuser, busybox blablabla, some common apps like skype, facebook, astro, poweramp player, launcher pro, k9 mail, newsrob, blogaway, easyprofiles, pansi sms, mapdroyd, google shopper, qr droid. That's pretty much it. I have one of the custom battery icon mods that could be found here on boards.
Any ideas about what is wrong and how to make it right?
I cant help you with all the poltergeist sh*t on your phone but if it were mine id copy stuff to pc then full wipe and reflash.
regards
id recommend to flash Eclair 2.1 with partition check than to Froyo so that ud have a "clean" rom to play with
cheers
Problems never walk alone - i would, but my laptop has died a week ago...
However, i think i found the cause - looks like for some reason, some of the partitions (including, apparently, internal sd card and data partition) mount as read only. This could explain all that is happening. Is there a way to correcr this without reflashing?

go into recovery and fix permissions , if that doesnt work then as said before
I have tried all possible solutions - from restoring from backups i made earlier, and down to flashing back to different ROMs - namely JPM, JPC, JM8. With repartitioning and without repartitioning.
Moreover, when i mount the SD card on the PC - i can delete files (well, it looks that way) but then when i reboot and mount again - everything is back to the state it was before.
Now i can't even boot my phone. Sometimes it can't mount stl10, sometimes it can't mount stl11. I went through all the solutions that were mentioned in the threads related to these errors. Also, when i format all the partitions (with voodoo's clockwork) it says everything went OK - i "can" reformat everything including internal SD card, repartition it etc. but then it goes back to what it was, and phone doesn't boot any ROM.
Any ideas? Can this be a hardware problem?
EDIT:
i tried to flash latest stock gingerbread ROM, and after installing a clockwork from here it boots but still doesn't work - starts force closing, can't load anything.
Formatting partitions with clockwork does not induce any errors, nor there are any errors mentioned at boot. however, even unmounting, formatting and mounting internal SD card doesn't affect it.
after flashing stock rom it says it cannot mount /data partition
EDIT 2: still no luck. i can't do anything with SD card. maybe there is some hardcore way with adb that i can try? like manually fscking up partitions so that i force reformat or something like that?
i have been tinkering with my phone and now i am certain that the root of the problem is that the internal SD card went into read-only mode - and it doesn't get fixed with any sort of permission fixing, repartitioning or flashing ROMs. i've searched some more on this topic (now that i know what the problem is) and found that on one was ever able to successfully fix this problem. i just hope that the samsung guys fix it for free because it doesn't look like a user problem...
thankssssss
Samsung accepted it on warranty, and they agreed it is a hardware problem.
What is alarming is that this is not the first time (as i said i found a bunch of threads with similar problems), and apparently it can also happen on galaxy tab (i seem to remember stumling upon a similar thread in tab section, and IIRC galaxy tab has hardware similar to SGS). This means that it can easily happen again.
So whoever is reading this thread - save yourself some time, don't bother fiddling around with odin and go straight to samsung customer service, they'll fix it for free provided you bought your phone less than 2 years prior.
.... okay nvm
Does anyone know why Titanium Backup would all of a sudden stop loading it's backups? I have them stored on an external SD card that I have used through multiple flashes without issue, then yesterday I had to reinstall Continuum 5.5. When I went to use my backups, TiBu just says "0 apps loaded". It finds the folder just fine, and allows me to select it, but won't load the backups. Can anyone help me? Is is possible something got corrupted, and if so, how do I go about isolating that to be able to get anything I can restored?
Did you hit the "problems?" Button on the first page of tibu and install busybox?
Yes, as soon as I realized I had a problem, the very first thing I did was click the great big button saying "Problems?"
I also tried moving the backups from external SD to internal SD, no dice. Next I'm going to try using older backups, but that is less than ideal since I wasn't the most dedicated in keeping them up-to-date (of course).

What i noticed that helps sometimes is this: Go to the preferences and select the Backup Folder Location --> Click Detect. This should find your backups either on internal or external. From there i reload the application. Even this sometimes does not fix the issue. If i reload and no apps are found i reboot the device. This has always repopulated my Apps and from there do the batch restore.
Best of luck
Thanks, Rizz, but that is how I normally have to do it since I keep my backups on my external SD card. It's really bizarre, I've never had ANY problem using Titanium and I have been using it since October, flashing new ROMs basically every other week! I think a file must have gotten corrupted somehow, and I can't figure out which, so I guess I am going to have to revert to a backup several months old. I used to keep it synched with my Dropbox folder so I would always have a current backup available, but I guess I got lazy this one time and didn't set it up right. Figures it would be the one time I need it, right?
It is first occurred after installing recoveries from this tutorial : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2649923
I was new that time so take out backup of system from ROM manager app, it started backup into internal memory, after a which it ran out of space so i rebooted in system.
XSP prompt low internal space message so i decide to delete backup file. succeed to delete from Rom Toolbox root browser.
n from now on this problem started.
i tried deleting .odex files from /data/app nothing happened.
some one suggested to delete .odex files from /system/app, i started deleting butt it turns into soft brick (bootloop).
so i flashed XSP with stock ROM 4.3 India with the help of this tutorial : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658952
i lost all my data n all but i was happy to see that problem is gone.
then i started rein-staling all apps + root app like super SU, Rom toolbox, titanium backup, luckypatcher (same as before).
then i realize xsp is not rooted so I rooted again with Towelroot n installed recoveries.
everything goes fine for some day n problem occurred again. :crying:
then i find a trick to wipe cache/ dalvik cache, i tried it without taking out backup.last all data again but problem is gone again.
i stared reinstalling apps again.everything goes fine for few days.
n then problem started again. i take out backup first (TWRP) then start wiping cache n all.
then i start recovering that backup,
But This Time Problem won't gone keep showing OUT OF SPACE message again n again, also unable to install app from play store.
i dont want to flash it again coz problem will come again.
sorry for bad English.
please help me guys..
please reply n help me.
Thanks in Advance
You should start all over again and use an external mini SD for your backups and media files.
Backup to external SD card from recovery rather than backing up to your internal memory.
Backup files are known to be large files.

No, just wipe everything on your internal SD card.
Wipe /cache, /data... etc.
Format /system
And then start over again like you've just bought your phone.
You must have a load of bloatware since I cannot image an internal SD card being full with only installing a few apps.

i have done that before n its perfect solution.
but then why problem appears after few days.
n should i restore backup from TWRP, asking because i noticed that if i restore it, problem wont go.
If you restore a nandroid backup from recovery it will not solve your problem!
There are always folders with files in them that remain on your internal memory.
Restart all over (format) and when you're installing big apps like games or so, move them to your external SD card.
If not, you will be confronted with the same problem over and over again.
Simple logic if you ask me...

You possibly have one or more nandroid backups in your internal memory.
Check folder clockworkmod\backup.
There might be some folders in there. Delete any backups (complete folder) which aren't needed.
To avoid running out of memory again, backup to external SD card from now on.

Don't make a nandroid backup. Just make backup of apk's then make a backup of contacts manually in vcf format and all other things you need. Then partition your SD card and then use App2SD and make your internal memory grow more in space don't follow anyone's else crap suggestions.
If I helped press thanks

Telling people not to use a nandroid backup is what I call a "crap" suggestion!
I can name millions of reasons why it is always good to have a full nandroid backup.

And as far as it is about making a nandroid backup then keep in mind that Nandroid Backup makes backup of compelete device as it is in what so ever state it is. He download apps over and over again so it's better to backup apk's rather than a nandroid backup And yeah you help me growing up if you know XD
Hello All,
I unfortunately made a giant mistake and overlooked backing up my gallery when doing the factory reset. Anyways, have tried some random "android recovery" software on google and haven't really availed anything.
Next plan was hoping to make a complete "image" backup of my internal memory (no external memory installed/backup to), and than try and run testdisk or recova or something like that on it. Just unsure of how to do this.. anyone have an idea?
Last resort is to take it to one of those phone repair places.. sigh.
Thanks!
PS: I've stopped using the phone to prevent overwriting of the old data.

Root it and use disk digger app. Does alright. Doesnt recover at full resolution but does recover lost pics. Smart move also. As any usagage can overwrite data slots marked for deletion.
