On the Iphone there is an app that allows you to see other iphone users in your area and chat with them is there such an app on android ?
Stephen Fry had it on his iphone when he was on topgear a few months back. I am looking for something similar but not focused on a particualr sex.

There's one thats called gfinder or something similar. I'll try and find the exact name unless someone else can chime in.
When I first went into the t-mobile store to check out the g1, they showed me something similiar to what you are asking but the downfall was that other g1 users had to opt in to use it. For some reason I thought it was part of the original cupcake software
Now that I checked, it is right in google maps, called latitude

You have to add friends but the gfinder or gfindster just see's everyone, but of course they would have to have the app installed. I used it a long time ago and didn't think much of it. While looking that up I saw another app called loopt that looks like the same thing, I could be wrong tho.
Latitude works for everybody. Not just G1 users. It uses your Gmail account to send request to other people who have to accept you and allow you to see where they are at and chat and stuff. Works nicely, but you have to know their e-mail address to get them added.
So, no you can not find random people with G1's to connect with. I don't know if there is an app that will allow that, but Latitude will not.
I believe you have to opt in to use it, general people on there and since it requires your gps to use, I don't think that you will find any one using except for the most basic users that are unaware that turning off the gps saves you some serious battery life
Aight I just looked it up and its call GFindster PREMIUM but they also have a lite version.

No your right cause they was pushing the whole latitude thing. But GFindster is just a seperate app that looks up anyone without having them listed as friends.

you should also check out buddymob
shows where all users are on a map around you and you can click on their little dot (pink for women, blue for guys) and it will show you their profile without having to be their friend

Yes, when I had my blackberry it installed fine on the phone, the network didnt matter.
It was making the actual connection where it screwed up at.... It then let you know you werent on the Sprint network.
so i got all the way to the download page on my phone and then it said content not supported on the phone. i am going to download on my pc and then post it here. anyone know if it is possible to run these extra apps such as blackberry apps on the g1, even with some extra toying with things.

Sprint doesn't have an android phone YET. Their first handset will be the hero so until someone gets a hand on sprints hero rom then I doubt there will be a NFL Mobile live apk floating around.

the app is a jad file. i got the jad but it wont install without the jar file. i am posting the jad of what i have. maybe someone can make it work.
Just want to say the NFL mobile app for Iphone/Ipod obliterates in every sense any NFL app Ive used before.
I seriously hope they port to Android.

Its not 10 days the street date of the hero is October 31st
there was a vid of this NFL app installed on a sprint hero, and it looked nice. Especially the fact that it also comes as a widget.
We def. need this!

Just remember, the apk may need libraries from hero as well. Obviously those on hero will be fine but if that's the case then those of us on cyanogen might be screwed.

It forced me to update and now says that i have to be on sprint to use it.
obviously that makes sense but i'm just wondering if anyone who downloaded the sprint apps has them still working on t-mobile/verizon.
The Sprint NFL app is by far the best NFL app that you can get on android and i'd love to keep using it.

Mine is not working anymore. After upgrading, I got the message "This app is for Sprint customers..." I installed the .apk from the older version and realized that it won't let you proceed without upgrading.. Ah well, it was fun while it lasted..

you should stop talking unless you know what your talking about.
The sprint apps are not considered warez because warez involves something illegal.
No one is stealing the sprint apps, you don't have to pay for them on sprint. Sprint was dumb enough to let people extract the APKs except now they made it so the NFL app dosn't work. (to my understanding the rest still do, and i can confirm navigation still does last i checked)
These apps were available for download from this very forum for a few months and probably still are.

Is there a way that I can use Google music in Canada? ....I got the new music app from the internet (it was not on the market) but I can't sign in....pretty lame for Google doing that....is there any work arounds?

Right now, the music beta is by invite only. You can go to the website http://music.google.com to sign up, but if you are out of the US, they just display a message that it is only available in the US. You can get around that by using a proxy like http://hidemyass.com to sign up, but if/when you get the actual invite, I don't know if it will still work.
I am still waiting for my invite to come through to test this from Germany.

Heh, listen, I don't like it either, but Google does it's testing under the conditions they set, which is often keeping it just in the US. With music laws, and data usage being so different, it's hard to blame them.
That being said, if you get an invite then yes it will work in Canada.

As brettbellaire mentioned, due to licensing terms, google has to limit it to the US right now. I am hoping it eventually gets lifted, but being in Germany, I am really used to country restrictions (even if I hate them). But as long as they have the US market, I doubt it will "fail" based on country restrictions alone. It will depend on their execution of the app and the storage and the eventual prices once it leaves beta status.
It works if you use a proxy to hide your ip. I did that and asked for an invite on the first day. Just recently got it. Have uploaded music, live in canada and works on my phone too. Just like Shivammcool said.
I can confirm it works in canada but I requested my invite through a US proxy at work...also to get it working on my nexus s and xoom I hadto install version 3.0.336 which allowed me to link my devices to my account and then I could install thev latest music apk...I dont know why but the latest version of the music app wouldntlet me register my device...

I just used hidemyass to request an invitation to the beta invite, it went through but I shall see if I recieve one. By the way I live in Australia.
I just received my music beta invite today I haven't had a chance to sign into it on my phone to try it out yet but I can confirm it is working well in my browser Again I'm in Australia and I'm excited to get the invite.

Hey folks. I got around the US-Only bit by proxying my way to the site. No problems there, and I could download the manager and upload my songs.
The problem is that I can't get the app for my phone. It identifies my phone as Rogers, and states it can't be installed.
Anyone know of a workaround for this?
You need to be rooted, and you use an app called "MarketEnabler" to make your phone appear as if it is on a US carrier, and then you can access all the US only apps. (you can also make your phone appear to come from other places and access those apps too, although there aren't many).

Like the title says. I need help in how to get my droid esn added to metros database. I have everything else done on the phone it gets metro at 611 .. I have the mms and net set and ready to with all files needed. I just can seem to find anyone around me that will add the esn. Please let me know of anyway I can. I called metro and they said no, and I took it to like 10 dealers and they all said no. Please help thanks.

Both of you: I asked around a lot last week and I was told to go to a Corporate store because they are the only ones who can get into that part of the database and edit it. Apparently it costs some money, idk how much.
Thanks for the replys so far, but I have done all of the above as in so far as to go to the corp store and dial 611 and 228 infront of them, and hello hello hello lol played and nope will not add the esn from the phone in person or at the dealers(any corp or private). The only guy I found here where I live wants 90 bucks to add the esn :{ any other ideas I have a eris running fully flashed and loaded but its not doing it for me any more. Ok thanks for any ideas.

Well I suggest that you keep looking on craigslist or something because that seems like your only option now... or just save up an buy the LG Esteem... $350 but well worth it... epic phone. Good luck man :/

I went into the corp store again tonight and I got someone who said if the phone is flashed they could do it so dial 611 and they here metro so he takes the phone and goes to scan the esn and nope. Not flashed by Houdini so no work. Now can I go and buy that program and flash them my self and will it just add the esn for me into metros database or ? Because I would like to flash the phones also for cheaper then the guy here and make money my self :}. Ok any insite thanks for help

I have the lg revolution which is basically the esteem twin. There is dec work on the esteem can't tell you exactly how much though. I know they have cwm and at least themes. Idk about a rom though I believe someone is working on cm7. I will ask around irc tonight and let you know.

Like he said just get the Esteem, it's worth it and xda will soon, along with other forums & developers have a CM7 Rom for it soon enough. It's also supposed to get Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) so it's a good bet, I'll be getting mine this weekend

If the esteem gets an official ICS and the Revo doesn't I will be heated. It's an awesome phone but it is basically the Revo twin and the Revo got eoled the other day...

well I checked it out and looks like a nice phone. I will be getting it in a week or less :} but untill then i would love to use the og droid for a while as the eris I have is just a slow beast :} and they added that esn at the corp store for 10 bucks ?? i don't get it lol

Just come on over to the Revo IRC and you can talk to someone more knowledgable then me. mt is mtmichaelson and he is in there but not talking at the moment idk if he will be on at all tonight but he is on a lot so you might get a chance to talk to him about the ROM and kernels and such. Depends on who you ask. Personally I will never get rid of my og droid I adore that phone. It popped my android/smart phone cherry and is just a brick of a device. Just will not die. I have dropped/thrown that phone so many times and it just comes back for more lol

I kind of like it too and my buddy has one but if the only way i have to use it is to pay some one 90 dollars to do what i can do to it for the same price. I know he is useing cdma ws and im not going there. I just am mad I cant get the esn added easyer lol.
Do you want to buy the og for a spare :} lol I know the first owner of this one it was a 35 year old girls phone so its clean and has a case

Lol. Nah. I just got this tablet so I'm broke lol. But the esteem has an irc aswell if you want to go there. It's just lgesteem and not lgrevolution fyi

I paid $60 for mine on Craigslist.. and yes the Esteem has root. I will be getting it soon enough lol
