I'm looking to go from CyanogenMod v3.6.2 to JACHero r2.3.3. I want to backup my apps (or even just keep a list of them), my SMS/MMS and my bookmarks. What app is best to do this with?

Download Backup for Root Users from Market. Its free and amazing .
I second Backup for Root users as its very good. Just don't forget these steps before restoring with such a tool (after a wipe that is).
1) After the wipe and flash of said ROM, open the market and accept the terms and conditions
2) Download and install a program that has a license that you also have to accept
3) Open your browser at least once and browse to any page
4) Now you can do a full restore with Backup for Root users
This then should avoid any force close issues with the browser and issues with the market.

I third that. Great app!
If you're using Apps2SD, you won't need to back up anything, as they'll stay on the EXT 2/3 partition for you.
I "first" My Backup Pro It's a paid app but works well
I've purchased MyBackupPro and its a very good program also. If you don't mind paying the fee then go for it as it has a good interface. However if you know how to use ADB/Gscript then really you wouldn't need it.
With either you can't go wrong.
Really don't need an app at all Just adb pull /data/data and /data/app. Of course, if you have adb working ^^
OR do a nandroid backup that takes seconds!
Haha I agree with you nephron =] Only thing is that it doesn't backup your applications.
alright i've never had to wipe my phone before, but going from cyanogen's 4.0.4 to the latest 4.2.3.3 is creating some problems. I have a few questions before I do so.
1. how do I backup the market list so I can redownload all the apps and reregister through market?
2. what happens to all my current applications on apps2sd? should I just format that partition?
Easiest way is to use mybackup pro or backup for root users. But what I normally do is copy the apps/apps-private folder, push that back and redownload the paid ones when I have free time so it shows an update, when it works... =p
i already use mybackup pro, but I want to be able to use the market to redownload rather than install a bunch of APKs that dont register with the market for updates.
The market will remember all your paid apps based on your google account.. Just open the market and click the downloads tab to grab them again. It usually remembers unpaid apps too, but I've had a couple of wipes where it didn't.
isnt there a file I can save that remembers the market downloads?
Not that I'm aware of, but I've wiped hundreds of times and all except maybe 1 or 2, it's remembered everything on the downloads tab.
I'm on the stock N1 and want to unlock the bootloader, which will force a wipe.
Whilst I can backup the installed apps to .apks on the sdcard with several apps as far as I know when they are restored they will not be 'linked' to the market, so I won't get update notifications for them.
'backup for root users' and 'titanium backup' can back up the market db, but you need to be root in the first place, which N1 users cannot be.
Is there a way to backup the market db without root?
Or maybe 'fix' the market data during/after the reinstall of the .apks?
Back them up to the sd. When you root reinstall and use atrackdog to check for any updates. If you do update the app in the market then it will show from that point on through the markets update notification.
Or... You can download Titanium Backup from market
EDIT... Sorry, it says you need root for it... I coulda sworn it didnt say that before...
both mybackup pro and app manager can backup aps to sd card without root.. then you can use thm to restore after rooting.

He is 100% correct about this but if you look for app manager it is now call app monster. The pro or free versions will work.

Thanks guys, but I'm sure I used MyBackup to do this ages ago with my G1. It restored the apps OK but they didn't show up as 'installed' in the Market so Market doesn't give you updates.
I notice MyBackup now has a 'root' section in the preferences which includes a 'Market db' option. The only other apps I've seen that can do it require root so it looks like maybe it can't be done :-/
Failing that I'm now looking for the restore solution with the least clicks, then jerrycycle's idea of ATrackDog (thanks!). AppMonster doesn't have a batch install, App Manager (by Amazing Droid) does and pops up the usual install dialog so thats 2 clicks per app.
AppBrain looks cool, you can make a backup list of your apps on the web, then resync after wipe, but it does a market search for each one which is quite a lot of clicks It does note protected apps though, which the others can't dump so I'd loose track of them.
hmmm not going well. Market shows all apps I had installed but as 'free', it thinks they're available to install. If I install the app from SD - I've tried MyBackup, Astro and AppManager - it is available in the launcher but still listed as 'free' in the market.
Looks like only way to do it is to go down the list in Market and manually install each from there.
Hey. I don't know if this was posted here or not (search is temp down) but if not, I found a temporary alternative for Titanium Backup until it works for the XOOM. I used to use titanium backup and Mybackup Root (free) to backup for my Droid X, but gotten lazy and just used TI.
Anyway, Since TI isn't compatible with the Xoom right now, I re-downloaded Mybackup Root on my Droid X (it isn't in the XOOM's android market) and used Astro to backup the .apk of it, and emailed it to myself. I downloaded it on the XOOM, made a backup of my all apps, and to test it, deleted a couple, and restored. It worked. I'm not too sure if its fully stable or compatible for the XOOM, but so far, it better then nothing.
A couple bugs I noticed is 1) if you touch the screen while it's backing up, it stops, and 2) it gave and error that the market link wasn't backed up or restored.

Can even install Snapchat after Xposed.
Requires just a PC/Laptop/Mac
and of course your phone of choice.
Step 1: Download BlueStacks 2 Latest
Step 2: Download B.S Helper
Step 3: Install BlueStacks
Step 4: Install SnapChat on BlueStacks
Step 5: Login on BlueStacks SnapChat
Step 6: Open BS Helper and "Click Patch For Super X"
Step 7: Backup Snapchat with Titanium Backup
Step 8: Transfer Backup to Phone
Step 9: Restore Backup
Step 10: Enjoy!
Hope this helps someone who needs it before they hassle with uninstalling and reinstalling Roms/Xposed/Snap and all the other various things I wasted hours on!

Once Snapchat is backed up with TiBu one should never have any problems after that.
I first backed up Snapchat in 2013. To this day I have never had to worry about logins. App has been restored, updated (to match Snapprefs mostly), backed up again (of course), and run on a slew of ROMs from JellyBean to Nougat.
Actually I don't have a clue as to what my login is. Backup is key.

I recent upgraded phone's and restore from the TiBu still would not let me in. I'm thinking the backup version I used was from a too old of version.
I am using a systemless root + xposed on my phone. I was able to just overwrite the boot partition in twrp ( unroot ), login to snapchat, and restore the boot partition with the rooted version. It only takes about 2 minutes, assuming you make a backup of the boot partition from before you rooted.
@gustden, pretty good tip. Saved. Just in case my luck runs out.
There is one other thing. Not sure if it applies to Snapchat in particular, I always use the same device ID on all ROMs. Actually carried over from my old Samsung from a couple of years ago.
Some app data is tied to the device used when a backup was made. The Line app for instance. Long time ago I ran it on a ROM where I forgot to change the ID. Line detected a new device and gave me the hardest time. It even "threatened" to remove all existing data/chats/messages. I got it squared away after awhile but it was close.
I multiboot and run multiple ROMs and did not want that to happen on each.
But anyway, I wonder if Snapchat is somewhat similar. Restoring a backup on a new ROM but still having issues with logins.
I guess I can test that and see what happens.

Personal opinion - Magisk v11.1 with Systemless Xposed installed. All I have to do is toggle Xposed's switch, reboot, login to Snapchat, toggle Xposed on, then reboot. Takes about 3 minutes tops.

Hey, I was in your position and used multiple methods from above to get it to work.
After backing up and getting root on the virtual thing, download fx file manager (or any) and go to sdcard/titaniumbackup and copy all three things for Snapchat from there.
After that, go to system/bstsharedfiles or something like that and paste it in there. Sorry I got the name incorrect, I'll correct it in the morning. After that, go to the drive you installed BlueStacks to, and open programdata (only visible if you show hidden files), then you go to Bluestacks​, then shared folder, then userdata, and then copy the backup files and transfer them in whichever way you prefer. I personally used Google drive and then used a file manager to take them from my downloads to the titaniumbackup folder in my sdcard directory, which then enables me to just open the app and restore.

I tried this method and it resulted in Snapchat crashing immediately whenever I try to launch it. Now I unrooted my phone and uninstalled Xposed and Snapchat still won't let me log in.
Thank you very much, OP. Works like charm. Maybe you should expand the part about transfering the backup done with Titanium Backup on the PC side with BlueStacks to the phone since I had to dig a little to find out. Basically you need to install a file explorer on BlueStacks, then move the Titanium Backup folder to the common folder between your computer and BlueStacks (/sdcard/windows/BstSharedFolder) in order to finally being able to transfer your file from your PC to your smartphone.
It keeps giving me the error "Oh no! Your login temporarily failed, so please try again later."
