[Q] Global Proxy Settings for wifi networks. - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there,
As we all know our Samsung Device does support Proxy Setting for wifi networks but it only works for default android browser. Is there any way that I can use the Internet behind the proxy setting through out the phone (including google maps, gTalk, etc etc) ?? Has anyone here has done it?? I have tried many apps like ASProxy, Transparent Proxy, ProxyDroid, Http Proxy Settings but none of them worked.
Secondly what is iptable module?? does our phone Samsung Galaxy S I9003 has that iptable module? I have froyo XWKB1 firmware. Some of the apps require iptable module to be on the phone.
Many people claim that they are able to use pxoxy setting through out the phone with all those third party apps but not me. Please do reply

Type opera:config in opera mobile url(not in opera mini)
You will find lots of options there including proxy. But i never used it.
BTW this is not development related question.
Sent from my GT-I9003 using Tapatalk

sorry for that, this is only forum for I9003 and I am depressed for that. I dont want peoples who own different phone answering this because I have searched hundreds of forums and blogs, those people claim that they are able to use Proxy Setting with the help of third party apps but not me ... This is only forum where all the I9003 owners hang out. Yes The method that you specified also works. I am also using it but I want to use android market, gTalk, Maps and all the apps.
Greetings

Root your phone and use proxydroid, that thing works globally, has context sensitive profiles and other features...

Oh! yeah! I have rootem my phone deodexed, applied CWM for XWKB1 also but that application didnot work for me. I have a query, have you tried the proxy settings in galaxy i9003 itself or any other phone? the proxy of my college is 192.168.1.100 and port is 3128 but I am not able to run it through out the phone.

I use this program on this phone and my Galaxy Tab successfully with the proxy server at my work place. I use XXKPH with CWM by Skin and root through CWM method using leo's zip. You should be able to find these around here if you want to replicate my config.

Have you tried Orbot? It's not exactly what you want but it's a tor proxy :
Orbot is an application that allows mobile phone users to access the web, instant messaging and email without being monitored or blocked by their mobile internet service provider. Orbot brings the features and functionality of Tor to the Android mobile operating system.
Orbot contains Tor, libevent and privoxy. Orbot provides a local HTTP proxy and the standard SOCKS4A/SOCKS5 proxy interfaces into the Tor network. Orbot has the ability to transparently torify all of the TCP traffic on your Android device when it has the correct permissions and system libraries.

I'm almost sure we have this module in our kernel.
DroidWall is a famous firewall for Android which configure iptable on device, allowing or not selected apps to access network, try it

Solution for global proxy problem on Android devices
Hi all,
I found a setting that worked on my device. I believe it will work for almost all other devices running at last Android 3.3 as this is a requirement for the app SandroProxy. Note that no rooting of the device is required. Try the following steps;
Install SandroProxy
Add your WiFi authentication parameters to SandroProxy. Details such as the domain, user name, proxy address and password.
On your WiFi setting, long press on the SSID and select the "Modify network config". This can be found under Settings>Wifi>[SSID]
Under proxy, type "localhost"
Under port, input the port beign used by SandroProxy, default is "8008"
Thats is
Enjoy

Re: Proxy support on android

Re: Proxy support on android
Is there a way to route all the traffic down a port so that it goes through an ssh tunnel? i can use connectbot to create the tunnel, and using the anycut method to access the proxy settings. But only the google browser uses these settings, and it only seems to apply when using gprs not wifi.
Is there a relativily easy way to route the traffic down the tunnel so that for instance secure browsing can be accomplished over unsecure wifi connections?
thanks
DarkFlare
I would love to know this, too.

There's VPN support built into most Android ROMs... try that.

Would that route everything over the tunnel, including browser, Google Calendar app, third-party apps, DNS, etc?

[Q] How to set Proxy on Nexus One Gingerbread 2.3.3?

Hi all,
I need to access my campus internet through wifi. It has a given proxy adress and port. How can I access it using my unrooted nexus one?.....
Thanks,
Android does not natively support a non-transparent proxy.

I see. So, I have no choice but to root my phone to use the proxy....
Previously I used the Firefox mobile browser to bypass proxy settings. However, the only application you can use on your phone is the Firefox browser itself.
# Run Firefox, and in address bar type: about:config. This will take you to the advanced configuration panel.
# Now you need to find proxy entries, to simplify that you can filter it out by typing proxy in the field below address bar.
# Modify network.proxy.http and network.proxy.http_port to your proxy server and port.
# Set network.proxy.type value to 1.
I am not sure if this still works but give it a try.

Yeah... or as madballs (lol) posted, you can try the Firefox beta. But keep in mind, on Firefox will work... no other data services on the phone will.
It is kind of crappy they don't support it, especially when there are other roms out there that have this little function added in.
LOL, I was surprised nobody has taken this name when I registered.
I really cant understand ,, if they could add proxy settings to the browsers without rooting,,
why don't the developers add it in their apps?!?!
Go to the wifi settings there push the menu button and select advanced.
now you have a list within you can set your proxy settings over the current wifi connection.
I have tested it with my DHD at work. works perfect but hope they will connect to the same concept for proxy as by android 3.2.
There you can configure a proxy for each connection.
Cheers
Dave
And sorry for english skills...

wht is that how to use it????
well..
it is in the Wireless settings section. i guess you should use L2 IPSec.
briefly: have to set up a VPN server/connection point at home or wherever, and you'll connect to that from anywhere given that there's an open outbound port to the internet where you are currently. than a connection will be built up creating a "tunnel" through which your packets will be transferred to the VPN host where itt could be routed and NAT-ed to the internet unrestricted.
adding IPSec or other methods of encryptions will make your connection secure.
i've never tried it on my phone but since its based on linux it must be the same way as at desktop system.
you should check documents and howtos on the internet and check for apps at Market if the androids builtin is not satisfying!

[Q] Proxy Settings ICS

where the hell are the proxy settings hidden in ICS,
I have tried the following: settings...wifi connection long tap.....pop up window ....modify connection...show advanced option....
nothing happens
tried connected and unconnected
used a proxy setting software form the market.......... no success at all
need this urgently to connect to a corporate network..
PS : I have original firmware per update from samsung, no root
------------------------------
ICS really screws me up.....high battery drain, many hangs....forced closes..
my home screens need always some time to load when I come back from an application.
streaming videos are stuttering........my USB/OTG connections won't work or work only sometimes, the WIFI is connecting and disconnecting all the time now the proxy problem
Settings - Wi-Fi - Long klick on your network - "Modify network config" - tick "Show advanced options" checkbox
I hope you do know that Android does not support Proxy, In samsung Models the stock phone browser can be configured to run with Proxy settings, but none of your apps will work with Proxy on a wi-fi network.
This is a reported problem, the thread can be found as below
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=17231
There are several other similar complains, but google at present does not seem to be interested to add proxy support
i'm using AutoProxy app from market. Working both on ICS and GB rom
on GB I could set the proxy in andvanced WIFI settings and it worked perfectly.
I am using Junos Pulse to set up the VPN, this worked fine with my SG2 and my Note.
Now on ICS I cannot get inot the ....advanced settings.... as I have mentioned in my post I know where this normally is to find and I tried to check this option after long pressing the particular WIFI spot, it appears and I check it but nothing happens........
Yes, I know that android has a problem with proxy, thats why I am using JUNOS PULSE . it is an app from Juniper Networks (firewall hardware manufacturer) and it worked fine, but I have to set the proxy IP and Port manually.
Again, I know where those settings normally are, but they stay grey and cannot be used.
So I'd like to ask someone here to verify my finding. Again, can s.o just go to WIFI....long tap your connection, then check advanced settings. Then please control, if this feature is available after saving. In my case it is not...............
thanks in advance for the support
and , of course Auto proxy is not of any use for my problem, also sorry but the stock browsers can never be set up for proxy. In Android only the Connection (in this case the WIFI) can be set up to talk to an fixed IP on a fixed port.
May be it helps if I describe what Junos Pulse is doing: Junos Puls is connecting to the server , establishes a VPN and gives your devise a new IP(internal) and catches the traffic and routes it to the proxy. But this proxy IP and port you have to publish first. This is normally done in Android by setting the advanced settings in the appropriate connection to the proxy IP and Port. Hope this helps
Problem solved. It was a font proplem. I had installed a customized font this caused th proxy settings to be grey. changed the font.
Now I can edit the proxy ip and port.
And my WIFI is working fine on our proxy through the VPN with Junos Pulse
Hey
Sorry for the noobness but I've searched all over for this and I can't find a decent tutorial for this...
I want to connect to my company wifi but it's unfortunately by proxys... I have friends there that have access but they are on 2.3.3 ICS don't seem to get connect.
Can anyone give some light on what you guys configure your proxys manually. I don't know the machine name and all those steps that are needed on the advance settings...
Please and thanks
Conection proxy server
I have the same problem. In a galaxy note 10.1 i can't conect a proxy server. I have set number of port and name of anfitrion Android i can't connect. Can i help me?

[Q] global proxy - xperia sp

When using WiFi connection having proxy, apps won't work. There is a option to use proxy server but it is limited to only Web Browser which is really highly inconvenient for the users. Even Google Play Store won't work. Today almost every app needs an internet connection and without proxy support we are only stuck with mobile data which is slow as well as expensive.
I kindly request you to add a feature so that we can put the proxy for the full system and not only for web browser. Please consider this issue as High Priority and rectify it ASAP.
anyone please help
On your WiFi connection settings long press the wireless network (the one with the proxy) and it will prompt you to either 'Forget' or 'Modify'. Click "Modify" and then tick the "Show Advanced Options" box and it will show you proxy settings for that network. If that doesn't do the trick then try looking for proxy management apps or VPN apps (bypass proxy completely). I'm sure there's at least a few of those out there.

it would support only proxy without authentication
Yeah it seems authentication isn't supported in the Android system at the moment so the best choice would be to download a proxy app to do it for you.
