Hi all, I successfully downgraded after a few hours of fighting the errors, but hey I won so... good deal, now to the point. I need root, and I thought I would be able to root after downgrading but so far I have been unsuccessful with superoneclick and windows adb process, anyone out there done it yet? If so please share your story, thanks for reading, all posts welcome
I was able to downgrade and root fine. I used the pst art work (I work at verizon), so its possible you may have had incorrect drivers or a bad components file. Once the downgrade was finished I had no issues with s1c.

Hey everyone,
I apologize if this has already been asked; did some searching but didn't really find much.
So I updated my samsung galaxy tab 8.9 wifi to ICS via Kies when the update was released sometime back, not thinking that it would prevent me from being able to root (I know, stupid of me). I always figured Samsung devices were developer friendly, and always had easy ways to root them.
I tried the root instructions posted in all the tutorial posts, and unfortunately they does not work for me (and I presume others). I get a "E:unknown volume for path [/sdcard]" error when trying to access "apply update from external storage" from recovery. I assume this is a change to the bootloader/recovery that Samsung made to prevent unauthorized access (aka, rooting), which is kind of a bummer if you ask me.
When googling for that I found a lot of stuff, but nothing that really told me the best course of action to take for this tablet. Should I hold out for someone to come up with a solution, or would it be best to revert back to 3.2 (if that is even possible), and then "install" the package I saw on the XDA developers front page that gets ICS on the tab with root access. Or is there something else I should do? I've found articles explaining some courses of action, but none explicitly related to the new ICS update that was just released (these were mostly articles referencing the prior 3.2 version).
I realize it was only recently since the update was provided, but any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated. I would like to have root again on ICS if possible!
Thanks.

I just got mine rooted and I had the exact same issues as you. It's basically a broken root, as laid out in the OP of that thread I linked. See the How To section, subcategory Fixing Root.
Thanks,
I swear I did search, but apparently didn't know what key words to search for. I apologize for the duplicate post.
I have same issue and have thoroughly trawled the referenced threads. Can't access a root zip from recovery and can't flash a recovery from Odin. As a relative newb would really appreciate a step by step idiot's guide

Why not? What goes wrong? What recovery file did you try this with?
Tried various versions of cwm. Odin simply freezes although it has a connection to com6. Stock recovery same issue.
2 weeks ago I upgraded my phone to a HTC One (M7, on sprint) and I decided I wanted to try and root it. So I followed the htconeroot (dot) com root guide for M7 exactly and everything worked fine up until when it asked to have me boot up SuperSU. It gave me the error "There is no SU binary installed and SuperSU cannot install it". I've looked around for a fix and a lot of searches have led me to this forum, and a lot of the posts did have fixes. But 1. I'm too ignorant and new to all this to fully understand the fixes given, and 2. I want to make sure that the fix I use is for my device.
Anyways, I'm on android 4.4.2 and I believe that may be the issue, but I'm not sure what to do. So if someone can help me out and give me an easy to understand beginners step to step guide on how to fix my issue I would be very grateful. Thanks!!
Edit: Fixed. The guide I used had a written, and video guide for rooting. I followed the video version, but went though the written guide while troubleshooting. It turns out the video guide tells you to put in a certain file that is not needed for users using Android 4.4.2, and that you need to use another file. I switched files and it now works. I'm good now.
edit :fixed
Hello I have the same problem. I have a HTC one sprint and I tried rooting it and I installed root checker and it said no root access and supersu said no binary and stuff and your seems as it is fixed please reply I need you help on how you got it to work and the links to everything . Thanks
It seems that I have root for...most...intents and purposes, but not when it come to things like xposed or next app so fix. Now I'm running 1.4.4.B.0.37 On Xperia Z1s. Rooted using flash tool, note... Does seem to freeze at the reboot part when it tries to install busybox so I manually install from marke. I had root for awhile then saw on xda that you could "proper" root by updating threw ota. Tried and failed multiple times. I have a screenshot of the error from xposed. Any help greatly appreciated.

Figured Out
Well, i never gave up and figured out the problem. Even though i had the newest version through OTA, it did me no good to revert back to last version since thats the version you have to "proper" root. Sooo, i downgraded...again...to stock (C6916_14.2.C.0.159_TMobile.ftf) then rooted and it worked. doing installs and checking as i type but so far viper4android and xposed are g2g. now to upgrade to next version (C6916_14.4.B.0.37_T-Mobile.ftf) for "proper" root. thanks and glad if i could help others with same problem. I think i will post a guide for z1s so others (seems to be alot of us) can have noob friendly guide. :highfive:
starting my guide...
I am starting my guide and wanted to know if there should be a specific area i should post it? Is the correct place here in the Q&A area? or in the Development area?
Summary: Started root, didn't complete it (?), then update downloaded.
I began root process last night--my first try--using Towelroot. When I pressed the "Make it Rain" button, I got an error message that my device was not supported (I don't recall the exact words). Using Android 4.4.4.
I've not found a way to continue this, although I see some alternate methods in another thread.
What is apparently going to be a 2-hour over Wifi update from AT&T, is in process. Are there any problems regarding this and proceeding with the root process?

You started two threads asking the same question and your answer is in the AT&T General threads
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3076803
I did not start two threads with the same question. They were related but distinct., and the second one quoted the first for CONTEXT but the question was different.
They both regarded partial root. One regarded the major upgrade [4.4.4 --> 5.0], the other regarded an SD card. Thanks, and I will look where you pointed me and hope the answers are specific, like my questions were.

I do not see answers to my questions in General AT&T. I'm new here, but I am trying to follow basic forum etiquette. 1. Only one question initiated per thread. 2. Post to the forum that fits best. I feel my post fits under troubleshooting. I'm not just asking out of curiosity, I've put myself into two corners (as I see it). One is, partially rooted my phone then updating my software. The other is, how is my SD card related to the root--should it be (have been) installed prior to my attempt to root. I am here combining my issues in one post to show my belief that they are troubleshooting issues AND I need help before I proceed.
Perhaps there's an underlying question, and I hope I get some feedback. Have I indeed partially rooted, if I got as far as Towelroot's "Make it Rain" command but (not supported) it did not go further? Thanks so much in advance, I'm sure "newbie" would be a compliment.

If you pressed make it rain and then it said device not supported you're not rooted
Not sure? Download Root checker from Playstore
Hello everybody.
I'm a new member in this very helpful forum because I need to ask rather than read already existing threads that didn't help that much...
First of all, I'm sorry for my English. My mother tongue is German.
I'm a very happy owner of a unlocked and rooted VTR-L09C432B150.
One week ago, I received the message that OTA 162 is available now.
I know, the forum is overfilled with questions about that problem but anyway, I still don't feel very well advised...
I figured out, that there are many ways to solve the problem. Let me tell you the ways I know and where I stuck.
Redlotus is a way but it seems that many users were not successful with installing a new firmware.
Firmware Finder is the other chance but actually it seems to be not working for P10 Devices because nobody knows the correct partitions that are needed?
I'm not very experienced about modding and all these ways seem to be very riskfull to brick my P10.
How did you update your phone in the easiest way?
I would also relock and flash the stock recovery before installing the OTA and get backto unlocked bootloader and TWRP after. Very annoying but it is OK. The functionality to back up system data (settings etc) is given by System app (save/restore), right?
May I use the eRecovery function to get back to stock recovery with unlocked bootloader? Didn't find any answer and don't want to do heavy mistakes.
Ok a lot of questions and much to explain. Sorry for that but I'm sure you can help me patiently.
Thanks.
