Can you give me a super noob step-by-step tutorial about this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=902323
I'm in Asia so i think that it will benefit me if i do this. But the problem is I have no clue on how. It's just my 2nd week of having an android so i don't know anything about them. But I really need the voice as well as the 3g and HSDPA function of the tab.
Can anyone help me with this one? I will gladly appreciate it and will hit your thank you button in the process.
Go to the developement forum, find overcome rom, doesn't matter which one then you will find, at the bottom of the 1st post, a link to the overcome site that has the guide to flashing to gingerbread through ODIN. It also has links to all the files needed.
BEFORE FLASHING HOWEVER, GO HERE - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888071 AND USE THE BOOTLOADER CHECK APK. It could be the difference between a brick and a successful flash...
One bit of advice, if you don't understand something, ask a question in the QA forum, NEVER in developement forum, You will be flamed and possibly reported. Make sure you read and follow steps EXACTLY or you may end up with a brick...
Cheers....
if I follow this, would i be able to have HSDPA on my galaxy tab tmobile here in asia?

I just got a G1 and I rooted it to RC-29.
I'm very new to any of this hacking stuff and I have no idea what to do next. My guess is that I need to update to RC-33 and/or firmware 1.5? Along with installing the multi touch and things like that...?
I've read up on some information and JesusFrekes or something like that used to have a lot of updates for the rooted G1, unfortunately all the download links on his site don't work so I have no idea where to go from here... Can anyone tell me what I should do?
look in androidandme.com or google rc-33 and g1 rooting and stuff, idk
If you have root now, you can flash the newest cyanogen rom. check out the cyanogen thread in dream development. JF isn't updating roms anymore. Without danger/death/haykuro special spl (search it in these forums), and seeing as how you are new to this I suggest cyanogen ROMS are your best bet Also check out www.cyanogenmod.com and the cyanogenmod wiki.

hi there. i highly suggest that you follow previously posted suggestions. as you can see, this is my very first message to post on this forum and i have been a member for over 2 years. i have had my dream/G1 for almost a year now. in that time span, i have gained root access, flashed a couple of haykuro's builds, flashed jesusfreke's ROM, disappeared for awhile, came back, couldn't find jesusfreke anymore. after doing some research, i discovered the genius cyanogen and flashed his ROM, and then another, and then another, until i am finally currently running the 4.2.2 version. i did all of this without knowing a thing about linux and without any hacking or programming skills. i did all of this simply by reading, researching, reading, googling, reading, reading, and more reading. i promise you, everything that you need to know - guides for noobs with step by step instructions - are here in this forum. once you find these guides, try them them out, step by step. if you hit a snag, or something goes wrong, re-read the instructions to make sure you followed them exactly. if you think you did, search for the error that you stumbled upon. i'm going to go out on a limb and say that i'm 100% positive that someone else has had the same problem and it has already been solved and someone else has probably written a guide for the next noob to read once he/she comes across the same error. but he/she just has to find said guide! once you search and find this guide, follow the instructions, if you do not understand something or simply cannot, i mean simply cannot find an answer or help to solve your problem, then i suggest you resort to asking a question. but, only as a last resort.
but, it has been my personal experience that everything i have needed has been either at this forum or found through google search. these developers have not only made me love my phone once again by developing such sweet ROMs, but they even wrote up some very easy to follow guides for the newbies so even we can enjoy them too!
so: research, read, follow instructions exactly as they say, only ask questions if you seriously cannot find the answer after doing some serious serious research, then proceed to flash your phone. hell...if this math lovin' accountant girl here can do it, i'm sure anyone can! but only after hours and hours and pages and pages of reading and researching.
p.s. the very first sticky in this q&a forum shows you what to do: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=563679
Hello all...
can you guys help me...
Im using Milestone [GSM]
still with original FW, Eclair 2.1 Update 1
I wanna upgrade the FW into froyo [2.2]
the question is, HOW???
thx b4 all...
Why doesn't anyone use the search function/ Google to search such an old topic :/
For Rooting and flashing vulnerable recovery:
http://androidforums.com/milestone-all-things-root/75460-milestone-2-1-update-root-guide.html
Then you can use the OpenRecovery Mod (from G.O.T) to flash 2.2.1....
OK..
Done..
Thx
IMHO this would be a good thing to put in the XDA-Developers wiki, rather than forcing newbies to search through a lot of forum threads which causes confusion. I agree that everybody should be diligent in using the search box before asking questions, but it's still not ideal. Also, sometimes things change from time to time (e.g. GOT releasing updates) and then it's even more confusing to use the forum threads as references for "how to".
I would like to work on it but am busy with a lot of other stuff at the moment...next time I install a new ROM I will try to write a step-by-step wiki article (if anyone else thinks it's a good idea?) or at least put a link in the Milestone/Droid wiki page to the relevant forum threads.
Ok...here it goes.....
I have a AT&T, USA Captivate and i want to install the leaked froyo 2.2 on it, get all the bloatware off of it and "maybe" overclock it to 1.2 or so!!!
This is the prob.... The more I read threads on here, the more confused I get.
My wife is an IT person, so I have some back up on that end, but.....
I guess I need to know what to do, in what steps and how to do each step.
I will gladly donate funds to someone that could give me a step-by-step and what programs i need in order to accomplish each step.
FYI: I'm working off of a loptop, running windows 7........ And "NO", I have no clue what the lingo means on here.....
Some one please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!
First you post in the wrong forums. you should've post in Q&A.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819105
every roms you can download on here will have instructions on how to go from there.
Wrong section. This belongs in Q&A not development.
Go in the ROM's thread. There's almost always a step by step there.
If you can't follow those directions, then im sorry, but chances are you shouldn't be flashing anything. You're going to brick something.
The Axura thread has good step by step directions. Try there first.
EDIT: Ninja'd.

Step 1: root it, find 1-click root somewhere in this forum.
Step 2: download titanium backup and rom manager from the market
Step 3: run a batch backup of your apps and info.
Step 4: put desired rom on sdcard
Step 5: install rom via rom manager.
There are some small steps I skipped, though I trust that you're smart enough to figure it out.
We were all there guys.....

First of all, hello. I am basically a very, VERY huge newbie that just bought an Samsung Galaxy S I9000B and I would like to start to understand specific terms used in this forums (for example, XXJBA ROM, rooting). Can anyone give me a starting guide about this ? I intend to update my phone to android 2.3.3 but I don't know if it's possible (it is a customized one from a Brazilian Carrier called VIVO and if possible I want to remove everything). So I don't know even where to start. Any guides, specific threads, advices, tips, anything to start ?
Thank you,
Amid
Download an app from the market called 'root and me'. It's a great guide for beginners
For starters Brazil postI900B

Okay, thanks. Let me read all those threads and guides than I will be back for more. Thank you again.
BTW, not wanting to rush things but very curious: will I be able to update my phone I9000B to Android 2.3.3 ? Will the B in the end of the model destroy my hopes ? Just a quick answer, don't need to detail it at this point.
Hello again,
I've read the suggested threads and some other material, included the root and me app information. Now I know that the first step to clean my SGS is to root it. The application don't exactly specify which method should I use: SuperOneClick or Z4root. I understand the SuperOneClick is the old method, more dangerous and Z4Root is a new app that does the job but required USB debugging or something like that. So here is the next question (this way, I will be able to create a stick for all newbies, just by tracing my steps): Which method should I use ? Repeating myself, I have a Samsung Galaxy S, Model Number: GT-I9000B, Firmware version 2.2, Vivo Carrier (from Brazil), Baseband Version I9000BBVJJPD, Build number FROYO.VJJPD.
Thank you very much again.

Hi again guys,
No answer yet ? Really ? Am I doing something wrong ? Am I in the wrong forum (I was directed to this forum from androidz.com.br) ? I've tried to find the answers searching other topics but the search function is not very useful in forums. Also, there is no sticky here to help newbies.
The reason I was asking here is because I can't find answers in other places. I don't dare to simply trial and error, which is what I normally do when I have multiple choices, because I am afraid of bricking my phone; It's not that I am lazy to look for answer in other places; I simply can't find them.
Can someone help a newbie or at least point me to an updated guide ?
Thank you very much,
Amid
First of please forgive me if I post this in the wrong area, a noob here.
I cant seem to get a strait direct answer. It seems this way when asking how to flash to other carriers.
I have a Sprint HTC one, ready to flash, I want to flash it to page plus. I have read in many posts that it is being done, along with flashing to other carriers such as cricket. I really want to get my phone up and running on Page Plus.
Can someone please show me how or a link to how to flash it from Sprint to Page Plus. I mean all the steps. I have seen on other sites and posts on how to flash to Page Plus, but the directions are vary vague, leaving out many steps. Please if anyone knows how to and is willing to put up the steps from begging to end I and I am sure many other would really appreciate it.
Thank you.
