Hello fellow members I have a question about HD7 and ringtones and trying to help a friend out basically he wants to use his own music and create ringtones but he can't/doesn't know how. Is there an app for this? I have an HD2 so I don't have a clue about HD7 :/

no, not yet, but when the mango update comes out this fall he will be able to create his own ringtones.
So your saying everyone with an HD7 uses the stock ringtones? Wow lol

Not everyone. The phone would need to be chevron unlocked, then you can load custom ringtones onto pre-Mango devices. Search and you'll find instructions for that.
Mango only provides an official method of getting custom ringtones onto the phone.
Mango is still in beta correct?
Sent from my HD2 using Tapatalk
Mango Beta2 or one of the custom mango roms(7713 or 7714) all support custom ringtones. The file just needs to be under 30 seconds and a mp3 file. Use Zune, right click the file, choose edit, and set genre to ringtone. Then add the file to your phone. It will show up in the ringtone folder as a custom ringtone. I have several that i either DL'd from myxer.com to my PC or edited a song I like also on my PC.
Its under 29seconds and 1mb.... Making ringtones like this reminds me of my Nextel days. There's a thread somewhere with ringtones people have made that are proven to work already. I think it's in wp7 general.

did this and it worked.. thought i was doomed with the stock ringtones... grrr... but can you only have 1 ringtone at a time?? ive tried putting several but only 1 will show up...

If I'm the only one thats had this happen, I can give details if it would help explain more. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Nope, never happened. Sounds weird and frustrating though.
Not to me.

Is your phone stock? It is seeming more and more to me that stock phones are having major issues with everything. My wife had a stock LG Optimus S and its barely a month old and already having major issues with handling and weird random stuff like what you just explained. Can anyone else confirm this? I have no problems with my Zio other then wifi cutting out. That's been this particular sets only problem. I keep up on this thing, stock phones don't have the control to keep caches free and clear and so on.

Yes its all stock. And also I can't/don't know how to set my mp3 ringtones to my contacts. Like, an mp3 for one contact, a different mp3 for another contact, so I can know who is calling me just by hearing which mp3 is ringing.

The answers to your questions are all in reading around here. Not gonna spoon feed you. Assigning a custom ringtone to a specific person is really easy and if you can't do it you need a less smartphone because its obviously too smart for you.

Spoon feed? Nah nah, ever since the "upgrade to 2.2" the option to set different mp3s to different contacts is no longer showing up when editing a/any contact. So ill disregard ur lil smart a** reply. I ain't all tech-y with smartphones and stuff, I just want to set it like before the 2.2 so if I'm at work welding or playing baseball with my kids, I can hear who's calling without having to stop mid-weld or mid-pitch just to see who's calling. Yeah its probly already answered somewhere in hear but I ain't searchin n searchin when HOPEFULLY I can just ask, post, and just check back later for someones appreciated help, not some sh** like spoon feed crap. If ud rather reply with that crap and not with something helpful to what's being asked then just be an ass with someone who is already being an ass. L8Rs.

The lord helps those who help themselves. No one else will spoon feed you either. Jack Wagon. If you won't search no one is going to help you. I search and that's how I find things I need. I don't post and wait for someone else to read for me, because I'm not lazy. Get real. If you can't figure out simple things like mp3ringtones you have a phone that's too smart for you, idiot.

Wow, this is so simple. I will go ahead and tell you how to do it. Got to your contacts, find the one you want to set the ringtone for and hit the menu button, get this it actually pops up a menu that has some options, one of which is "Ringtone" Select "Ringtone" Then it will pop another menu (tricky I know) bear with me here, choose between Android System or User Added Ringtones or Zedge or whatever other ringtone apps you might have. The next step is all up to you just pick the ringtone you want and VIOLA!!!!!! /discussion
Alright can we stop the bashing on others and get back to the subject.

Everything is koo up untill I select ringtone, after I select it, a list of stock tones (that I know I didn't put in) come up starting with default, Android beat box, sunshine, rainy day, waterfall or something like those. Never does it ask Android ringtones or user submitted tones or anything of that nature.

I SOLVED MY OWN PROBLEM! I WENT TO MUSIC, LONG PRESSED A SONG, SELECTED "SET AS RINGTONE". HOME SCREEN, THEN CONTACTS, SELECTED THE CONTACT, MENU, OPTIONS, RINGTONE, THEEEEN IT WAS IN THE LIST TO PICK FROM ALONG WITH THE STOCK ONES! No one came close to suggesting that process. But thanks anyways.

Just some codec sounds I found then tweaked to be quite a lot quieter for phone use and changed to .ogg format (originals are included in case you want to alter them yourself).
http://www.filesonic.com/file/1219291954/codec_open+close.zip
To install them you can use an app from the Market called Lockscreen Sound Change.
Forgot to add, this requires root.
Or you can install them yourself.
The locations of each file are
Lock.ogg
Unlock.ogg
at 'system\media\audio\ui'
You can probably replace them using Terminal commands (haven't tried it myself), or you can add them to the ROM before you flash it.
Hope this is of use to anyone, I think it really goes well with the on off animations.
These sounds awesome. At the moment I am using a transformer, transforming sound as my unlock sound and reversed it for my lock sound. They're longer than these tones but still good, also lowering the volume makes them bearable for longer lol
Good work on sharing these and i'll probably use them when i get bored of my transformer ones.

Hey there, guys! As you may or may not know, I recently upgraded to the Droid Charge (I wanted to lock in Unlimited Data, so I moved the last week of June).
In any case, I gave my Eris to my younger brother who is not IT inclined. He lives in a different state too.
I'm loving my Charge, but hating these Samsung sounds (ringtones, alerts, alarm sounds). I tried the XDA Search feature, but keep coming up blank... Does anyone have a link to the Eris ringtones, alerts, and alarm sounds? I know I used Happy for my ring and Ascend for my Alert, if that helps. Can't remember what I was using for the Alarm...
Any help would be super appreciated! Hope all is well, Eris users! If you're considering a Charge, feel free to PM me and I'll give you the entire run-down against the Eris, etc.

When making a tone you must make sure is 40sec or less or 1MB or less.
Also categorize it as Ringtone in Zune i believe you change it in genre
Yes, you right click it in music, drop-down on genre, set as ringtone... 40 sec. Max AND 1 Mb or less... Must be mp3 file

Hi guys and girls,
My question is exactly what the title says, can you force beats audio to always be on for what your ringtone/ notification tones.
I've had a search on here but couldn't find any answers.
Thanks in advance!

I think that's a completely different issue. The difference between beats on and off is not as drastic as when you set a song as a ringtone and when you play it from the music player. I noticed how crappy it is too, but don't know why it's like that. I actually found this thread by doing a search for a fix, but no help so far.
Maybe dragging and dropping music files from your computer via USB to their respective locations would work. I'm sure the problem is in the mp3 to ringtone format conversion process.

Well if you can make a lightweight app that plays a silent sound in the background at all times (enabling beats 24/7) then it should work. That's the only way I've found to get it working.
It will cause battery drain though....how much exactly I don't know.

It will make the phone not go into deep sleep... This is a lot of battery drain i think...
There must be a trigger to enable beats with every sound.... But i dont know where to find it.
If we make the apk responsable ( dont know wich maybe prizm.apk?) A user app. Would this change something?
Every other app downloaded is using beats and these are all user apps.
How can we change the system apps into user apps?

System apps use beats too. I moved a few apps to system to see if any difference but no.
My guess though would be to try and mod the audio policy.conf
Or maybe mod the htcmusicenhancer.apk

Definitely looking for this feature as well. Even for me, who's not really good at distinguishing music quality notice how different the music plays as ringtone and in Music Player with Beats On.
I've noticed this before too. I also noticed that, on maximum volume, the phone plays ringtones louder than music. I think the phone makes ringtones sound worse (through reducing bass) so it can play the ringtone louder than it would play music, and not have distortion.
I don't think there will be a solution for this...
I have modified my custom ringtone a bit so it sounds nicer then before. So I can live with it.
