I was trying to install the Teamhacksung's ICS for Captivate but when i was trying to select the rom, it gave me the status 7 problem. So then i found the Q&A Post about the rom, in which it said that if i had that status 7 problem i should install a kernel that was linked there. So i download it, and as i read on another post, i flashed the kernel the same way I would do with any ROM. The problem came when, once it had finished, I rebooted the phone, and then, the initial screen which says GALAXY S and SAMSUNG below, then a screen that says GALAXY S and below Cyanogen Mod, and finally a quick screen that looks as if the clockwork recovery mod is doing something( impossible to read), and then it takes me to the initial screeen and it repeats over and over. Someone please please help me, I can't get into the recovery mode with the three button mode aswell, Help!!!
Can you get to download mode? If so, you can flash back to a stock rom and try again.
You may also want to check the items in the "Captivate connection issues" thread in my signature.
No, I can't get to download mode, I can't even get into the home screen, I only see the first screens that enter in loop, and that is as far as I get.
EDIT: Yes! At least i made it into the download mode thanks to your post. What's next ?
Look in the development section for the sticky referring to Odin and Heimdall one-clicks. Grab one of those (preferably a bootloader-free version) that has the same setup as you had before you flashed ICS (in other words, flash a Froyo one if you had froyo, Gingerbread if you had gingerbread).
That should put you back in a clean state where you can start again.
(You can also grab the Heimdall UCKH3 one in my signature if you were on Gingerbread - one less search step.)
Thanks for answering. Just a few things. First, the download link of the Heimdall UCKH3 on your signature is broken, but i found on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1348392 the onelink.jar file. That's what you meant when you said to grab a 'Heimdall one-click' ? Also, I have entered download mode and it shows the android digging up. But now that i have to open the Heimdall before connecting the phone, should i pull off the battery to exit this screen, open the oneclick and then connect the phone to enter the download mode ?
Thanks for catching that - guess it went down with the whole Megaupload thing.
I would grab this one. It's Odin-based, but should do the same thing, and it's Captivate-specific.
I wouldn't get out of download mode just yet. Unhook your phone from the computer, start the one-click, and reconnect it. With luck, you should be able to flash. If not, then do your battery pull / restart to download and try again.
Thanks for the link. I've downloaded it, unhooked the phone(the download screen didn't changed), started the one click and reconeccted it. A message appeared that said:
ID:0/006 Added!
Then I touched start button, and three more messages showed,
Odin v.3 engine(ID:6), File Analysis, Setup Connection.. and is still there. Have I done it right ? Do you know how much time is estimated to take, or I should have done something else ? I am asking all these questions, because, as you may see, i don't understand most things. Thank you
Thank you so much jmtheiss it worked fine now i'm running the stock version.
Glad to hear it worked for you.
I was wondering if you could help me with a similar problem. My Cappy is operating just fine on a ROM I flashed about 6 months ago, but I am not wanting to flash back to Stock. When I plug my cappy in to the computer (I'm running Ubuntu 11.10), the computer recognizes it and I'm able to transfer files just fine; however when I enter the cappy into Download mode, the computer will not recognize it anymore. Any help is much appreciated.
Are your libusb drivers installed, and are you using heimdall?
i have bricked my step dads captivate. i put Cyanogenmod 9 on his phone he has been using it for a while now but he wanted to go back to the stock rom that came on the phone. i made a back up before i installed cm9 but when i was restoring it back to stock it said error restoring boot image then stopped so i tried it again the it went black. now every time i try to turn it on it gets stuck at the at&t world phone screen and wont do anything. so i made a jig to get it into download mode so i could flash it back to stock. but now on my widows 7 computer it says usb device not recognized. it gives a error code 43, and says device has malfunctioned. i have uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them but the same message keeps popping up. i don't know what to do now im all out of ideas and i cant find anything that relates to my problem anywhere on the internet. please someone help me!!!
See the Captivate Connection Issues and Download Mode Help stickied thread in the General Forum.
Also u could try one of the Heimdall One Clicks instead of Odin.......see the stickied thread in the Dev Forum of the Master Collection of Stock Rom One Clicks.

No one tells you that you can't restore a factory image from CWM... but as you have seen, you can't.

seen this just few days back.... if you get stuck at the at&t screen, phone is soft-bricked and you dont need a jig to solve that problem.
I was under similar impression first, then read a post about a ROM installation and found out that to get to download mode, you can hold both the volume buttons and connect the phone to the usb with computer (phone initially is turned off) ... dont press the power button... this will give you download mode.... once in download mode ODIN to stock, root, flash to any ROM that you like by carefully following the instruction to "T".
i couldn't post outside link but look for captivate wikia download mode on google. it will give you a site with all options of bricked phone and solutions.
Hi I hope someone can help me as i'm a little stuck how to proceed....
Basically I purchased a new P7310 tablet 2 days ago with the idea of installing lovely JellyBean.
I firstly 'Rooted' the following the instructions on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406137 and then installed and run 'Superuser' without problems.
Next I installed 'Titanium Backup Root' and 'RomManager from ClockWorkMod', I run Titanium Backup Root and carried out a full system and apps backup successfully.
Next I connected my tablet to my Windows PC and downloaded the latest two ROM zip files from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1777398 and copied them to the Root of my SDcard.
I then disconnected my tablet and clicked the 'RomManager' app, once opened I clicked on the 'Boot in Recovery' button and a message appeared saying it needs to install the Recovery Manager, so I clicked OK. Next a success message appear saying it installed OK. So I decided to click the 'Backup ROM' button before I started just to be safe but the tablet switched off... black screen, it then loaded up but the Samsung logo flash up then disappeared.
Now If I try to power on the tablet I just get to the logo then powers off, if I try to boot into recovery mode it displays the two icons on the screen ok but selecting the left icon (with mini android character) it powers off. If I select the other green icon it shows me a message about installing custom roms and asks me to connect the tablet to a USB... followed by asking about 'odin3'?
I'm totally confused what I can do now, as I say I haven't actually got to the point of installing the JelyBean Rom, I just wanted to make a few backups first.
Any help much appreciated..thanks.
From further investigation I think I have soft bricked my tab :crying:
Now trying to find out how I might be able to fix it, found this post which I really hope will help me - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133590
Any help with trying to fix my tab would be great.. thanks.
Fixed it thanks to this forum :victory:
Encase anyone else has the same issue I just downloaded the original ROM file for my UK P7310 (P7310XEUKJ4_P7310XXKJ4_HOME.tar.md5) which was approx 600MB (once extracted to desktop) from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582943
And followed the screen shot instructions further down the thread from user 'suwandiapr' which informed me which options to have selected when runing the 'Odind3 v1.85' application.
The whole process took around 10 minutes to complete.
Sounds like ROM Manager screwed you. This is why I'm not a big fan of these Play Store release ROM/recovery installers. You can't test on every device, therefore there are going to be issues and some people are going to end up with bricks. Sure, they're convenient, and they work most of the time, but when they don't work, it has the potential to be catastrophic.
IMO, stick with flashing things through working recovery (or Odin the first time).
EDIT: Also, glad you're back up and running.
had same problem with p7300 after Rom Manager.
now using cwm for total backups and 'my backup' for applications when moving between different roms.
I'll second everything said. Always use a recovery to flash a rom. Never rom manager or other such things i hard bricked my i727 using goo manager. Don't trust the rom either rom manager or goo manager say are compatible with you device. Pretty sure my hard brick was from a gapps goo manager said was compatible with the rom. Check xda and what others have said works

The best option to flash any rom is from the cwm recovery, unless its a stock rom and u want to use Odin from dl mode. Also, some versions of cwm recovery are deemed dangerous for ics. Pls visit tracids thread in development for details.
Hi,
I have Samsung Galaxy S I9000 running Ginger Bread.
I wanted to upgrade my phone to Ice Cream Sandwitch or Jelly Beans. In order to do it, I started with below steps to root my mobile.
1. Installed latest Clockwise Mode application into my phone.
2. Installed Odin3 v1.7 in my laptop.
3. Downloaded CF-Root-XX_XEU_JPY-v1.3-BusyBox-1.17.1.tar on my laptop.
4. Started Odin first.
5. Disconnected mobile and started in download mode with Volume Down + Home Button + Power Key.
5. After starting the download mode, connected mobile to laptop using the USB.
6. Keep all the default values in Odin3 i.e. Re-Partition option unchecked, Auto Reboot and F-Reset Time option enabled. Selected tar file CF-Root-XX_XEU_JPY-v1.3-BusyBox-1.17.1.tar in PDA option.
7. Connected mobile and it detected ID Comm [Highlighted in Yellow].
8. Finally click on Start button.
After starting the process was completed and Yellow color changed to Green one, phone was auto reboot.
But after reboot it is just stuck on start of screen and not going ahead. I wait for 2 hours but still not working.
Could you please help me how I can solve this issue now?
Did you try to pull battery out and restart the phone again?
Do you still can go in CWM with 3 button combo again?
If yes then try to flash a ICS or JB kernel (depending on what ROM you finally want to have on your phone) via CWM and then go in advanced and restart recovery (if available), otherwise just try to flash the rom.zip on top.
If CWM is not possible, the go in download mode an falsh a tar version of kernel via ODIN.
Here are different semaphore kernels for each android version:
http://78.46.194.137/downloads/gt-i9000-ics
http://www.semaphore.gr/downloads/gt-i9000-jb
For ics it should work after 1. flash, but for JB you have to flash it 2 or even 3 times, if after restart phone does not boot. Then battery out again, start in recovery and flash zip again.
Good luck and good success .
I think, at this position, installing a new gingerbread stock ROM will be preferable. Try installing XXJVU. Then root with cwm and install any slim bean version in case you are interested to use jelly bean.

Sure that will be the best way....but my suggestions do not take much time, so why not give them a try .
But if its not going, then a restock is the best you are right:
What I always do for restock is using slappys rescue kit.
Unzip it and flash the Rom via Odin. There is everything, also a txt file with a guide included.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29114573&postcount=2
If you want to have slim rom then its recommended to flash CM9 first or flash a modem afterwards via cvm, because slim does not have a modem included.
And/Or just follow the installation guides/recommendations from the single ROM Threads.
Thanks Guys for your help.
My issue is resolved with below post.

You are here in totally wrong section: this is a i9000 help thread section. Hopefully you didn't flash a i9000 rom, otherwise your phone is hard bricked.
tetakpatalked from Nexus 7 flo
Me 2: It was from low battery in my case
I had similar problem when rooting my Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone with Odin3. After rooting with a success message my phone was showing just the Samsung Logo each time I was trying to turn it on without loading OS. I googled and directed here and connected my phone to the charger as its mentioned in a link you provided which solved your problem. It turned on automatically after a few minutes while of charging and when turned on it was charged approximately 40%.
As I was very afraid my phone got serious harm at first I hope this maybe a sedative probability for duds really worry about what happened to their smartphone.

I'm a newbie with the rooting and custom rom installation, I've actually never done one before attempting in on my phone a SM-G730A mini S3, I have searched online and was unable to find the factory rom for this device or instructions how to install.
I was able to root my phone using king root, Then I started removing all the factory programs that ill never used. It was great until a few days ago I removed 2 programs that affected my phone operates. It now gets stuck on the at&t screen when powering on, but the funny thing is that if someone calls me, the screen pops up for me to answer.
Issues with my phone: gets stuck on at&t screen, no home screen at all, only way to access apps is through S voice.
I first started looking into the custom rom because I wanted wi-fi calling since the phone signal is low on this phone. I appreciate any help on this. Thanks

I think you should reflash your current firmware version via Odin3. You can get stock ROMs from sammobile.com/firmware. You will lose your root access and you will get these system apps back what you deleted before.
I download it to my SD card and then what? excuse my newbie questions
those stock roms from sammobile youll need to flash via odin / heimdall

Firmwares from SamMobile are only flashable via Odin3 on your PC/Laptop. Move your downloaded firmware to your PC/Laptop and unzip it. Move the ...HOME.tar.md5 file to your desktop.
1. Now download Odin3 and install the drivers for your phone.
2. Open Odin3 as Admin to avoid errors or "Fail" messages while flash. (If you use Windows XP then open Odin like always) and make sure only "Auto reboot" and "F.reset" are checked.
4. Close all Samsung Kies process in task manager to avoid errors. (ignore this if you don't have Kies installed)
5. Tap on PDA/AP and choose the ...HOME.tar.md5 file (wait until Odin finish check the MD5 check sum)
6. Now on your phone. Turn off your device. Then hold volume down + home button + power button till you see a "Warning!!" screen and continue with volume up.
7. Connect your device to your PC/Laptop via USB.
8. Wait until Odin detect your device. (You will see a blue box) If your PC/Laptop install the drivers again then wait a moment.
9. If everything is OK then you can start flashing. (A flash process take up to 10 Min, so be patient)
10. Now your phone should reboot and you're done.
Don't forget you will lose ROOT access and you will get your system apps back what you deleted before.
DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

You probably uninstalled touchwiz. You can try installing a theme from the app store that might work.
Newbie Help
I am getting ready to do a first attempt at rooting on a Samsung S3 mini, G730A. I don't know how to get the Samsung USB driver onto the desktop because I'm not sure where it's actually located. I downloaded the Samsung Driver Zip and it's loaded on my C: drive but didn't find anything is there that seemed specific to that phone. I did locate what appears to be the generic Android device USB driver for this phone through Device Manager and put that on the desktop but not sure that is the one that I'll need when I go root. Any suggestions?
Thanks
