[Q] Nook won't turn on with SD card inserted. - Nook Color General

I'm trying to root a friends nook. I've burned the image to the sd card. But when the SD card is inserted, the nook will not turn on. I've tried three different cards, all with the same result. After I pull the card out, it powers up just fine. HELP!

Bad Image I suspect..I had same issue. What image program you using. I had issues with winimage switched to win32diskimager and it worked just fine. Make sure you use only version Release 0.1 of win32diskimager. Any other version will not work right.

[Q] SD Card Unusable?

Good Evening XDA,
Today I received a Nook Color for the holidays (yay!) and rooted it very easily with Autonooker. Now, my problem is that I formated the sd card after I got the Nook to root, but when I try to use the SD Card it only tells me that 40 MB is available (from a 2GB Card).
Is my card completely useless now, as I am afraid to put it back in my nook in so that I don't get a constant rerooting happening, or is there a way to completely remove the image and get it back to its "full" 2GB?
Thank You.
Should just have you Nook on, Nook tools/settings, SD card. Theres an unmount button, hit unmount then the format right under.
Thats what i did to mine, or just throw it back on the pc right-click format.
Actually, that worked very well.
I didn't think this through, but since I wasn't botting up the device, it wouldn't have been booting from the SD card and instead just reading from it.
Got it to work, thank you.
Same thing happened to my SD card, however I used a 8G card. Now I removed it from my nook, put it in my pc to format it and it still tells me I have only 40mgs of memory. I was going to use the 8G card for extra memory on my nook for videos and music. Guess I can't anymore unless someone can tell me how to get my 8G of storage back on my 8G sd card.
Look at camm's reply above. Put your sd back in your nook, go to settings ==> device ==> sd then hit <unmount> and then hit <Format sd>. That will put it back to 8gb

I finally figured it out. On my nook that is. Would unmount the sd card and quickly turn it over to remove it. Was wondering why I could never get the format SD card to work on the nook until I unmounted and watched the screen for the ability to format the sd card became available as an option for me to use.
Just think I am too much of a noob at all of this.
Anyways, thanks.

Nook only turns on when plugged in

Any suggestions?
remove the SD card, or format it. you still have the auto root SD card in. Mine would not turn on after that either. i formatted the card and all was well again.

[Q] Micro SD Flashing method won't work

Hi all. I just got a new X1 a few days ago. Pretty happy to have it, however, I'm having chronic problems flashing a rom on it using the micro SD method. I have a PNY Micro SD card, and after hard spl-ling my phone, I put a rom on the micro SD card in the root, renamed it to KOVSIMG.nbh, powered the phone off. Removed the battery and micro SD, reinserted everything, and when I powered it back up, I got the tri-colored screen, then it said no image file. For some reason, this PNY card isn't being recognized by my computer, so I can't reformat it with my computer. Can somebody please either tell me how to format the card on my X1 or direct me to the most current and reliable USB method thread please. Thanks.
[A] Micro SD Flashing method won't work
Hi x1-pc7,
try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787867
In Summary,
try to copy all your microsd contents somewhere else temporarily. e.g. your pc desk top
FORMAT you SD card as FAT or FAT32.
try the micro SD method.
sorry, i mis-read your post, you knew all that above...
To format your sd micro card, you would need a card reader to format your sd card.
card reader that handles the microsd, or put the micro sd into a sd card adapter, usually provided with the microsd card, and put this into a sd card reader.
Hope this helps!!
Have a Happy New Year!!

Listen. I said that my micro SD does not get recognized by my computer. I have an adapter, but my computer won't recognize it. Read the whole post, and please show me where it talks about how to use the USB method to flash because the micro SD method will absolutely not work for me.
Thanks.
Happy New Year to you too.
usb method is simple
just turn device off.push the volume bottom in(& keep it in) then push power & keep both in until bootloader screen appears.then connect to usb.run Xperia Software Upgrade...Done!

You could try to change your USB to PC setting to "Disk Drive" (Start » Settings » Connections). This way your phone will only show your microSD card instead of both internal memory and SD contents.
See if that enables you to format your SD card.

Not even without the X1, i.e. when using only your adapter?
Sounds like either the card or the adapter is broken - any chance to cross-check with another card/another PC?
Make sure your adapter can handle the card: (µ)SDHC cannot be read by older (µ)SD adapters....
Need some help pls. I formatted my SD card, inserted in the phone, came into boot loader mode, but no onscreen instuctions. Am I suppsed to run the upgrade sofeware becos the error from there is my phone is corrupted.

Are you trying to flash your phone? If you do, have you copy the new ROM to the SD card? (in root, not in any folder) And rename the ROM to "KOVSimg.nbh"
Then the boot loader mode will detect the ROM and show instructions.
However, if you're not trying to flash your phone, you don't need to enter the boot loader mode. Just do battery pull, and start your phone normally.
not dev related, therefore moved to q&a

[Q] CWR wont see SD card

Hey all just a quick question. When I boot to cwr from rom manager and try to install any zips it wont mount the external card so I can select my zip. Maybe a bad cwr install?
Thanks!
Sent from my Nook Color.
Was the uSD inserted before or after booting into CWR?
If before, then it should be showing up. I've had a few times, though, where the card is misaligned just enough that it's not making proper contact. If this is the case, then the uSD won't show up anywhere at all. Reinserting the card typically solves that.
If you're inserting it after you've booted into CWR, then IME, it won't mount. I don't know if that's designed behavior or not. *shrug*
In CWR, there is an option to mount sdcard. Did you try that?
I had the same problem yesterday. CWR would not see the card or let me mount it manually. When booted into Android, the card was visible. I used a different card and CWR worked just like normal. Only thing I can think of is that there are some cards that CWR doesn't like?
I had just done a fresh FAT32 format on the card that wouldn't work. It was originally named "LA_NOOK" and thinking that maybe the name was the problem, I shortened it to "NOOK" and it didn't make a difference.
Ok so I tried a different micro SD and it was fine. Thanks for the help, although I still do wonder why my 8 gig card fails and my cheapo 2 gig card works great

[Q] Can SD Card prevent power on

nook color running 1.2 did a hard reset on it to try and fix this problem
i ran CM7 off SD card fine for months till i did something stupid and deleted the build.prop and did not restore old one before rebooting.
sandisk class 3 4gb sd card formated in windows to fat 32 totally blan insert into nook it powers on.
now i redo all my steps i did few months back in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
insert card into nook and now nook wont power on unless i remove it wait a few seconds. no reformat it back to fat32 and insert into nook and it powers on fine.
any ideas?
so after putting in a new sd card it still refuses to boot with sd card in. could they have put some kind of preventive for booting from sd card? it boots fine if sd card is empty but soon as i put a boot img on it nada
hardware/port failure?
or can it read the sd card after you boot into vanilla nook?
i was updating a daily once and it would just sit there and always boot into nook... then i realized that my install (copy zip, boot, reboot) wasnt finishing properly and it appeared to not be booting from the sd, but it was, just that the sd contents were corrupt...
it will boot fine if the sd card is out OR if i format the card and it is empty. if i put a boot image on it nothing. first i thought it was the sd card but now ive tried it with 2 different ones and the image being wrote from 2 different card readers
