CyanogenMod Rom 2.1 - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey people,
yes, you'll probably think "this guy is a noob and doesn't know what says!".
I was dreaming of creating a rom that combines CyanogenMod5 and the Stock 2.1, and some improvements made in CM6 and CM7 (some of them can be ported, i think so)
I think it will results in a VERY STABLE and VERY FAST and VERY SIMPLE Daily Use ROM.
Yeh, you will start saying "Use FroyoBread, use GingerDX, use MiniCM6, use MiniCm7, use this, use that, use blablabla" but i don't want that ROMs because they all have minor bugs (in CM6 VideoCamera the Audio and the Image are not sinc., on CM7 the screen as a non sensitive area and the MMS don't work), some Stock apps aren't available (like the Original X8 Timescape [ yes, there are some Timescapes for other roms but they are ported from Arc and other phones and i don't like it a lot) and much more things.
I know that probably a lot of you aren't interested in this, but i'm interested and i'm here to make this work! I only need help from some Devs. or simply some references and instructions, and sources and things like that so i can start by myself creating that 2.1 ROM
So, if someone is interested in a project like this, or know some things that could help me realizing this project, just PM me or leave here a comment.
Sorry for my bad english and sorry if im posting this in the wrong forum

humm, but CM5 is stable? if yes we can base a ROM on it, right?
I'll try to search something more before asking to that developers, because that developers have their own ROMs so they have a lot of work to do :S
Thanks for your reply

Not a bad idea......

Ya the developers will point you in the right way but thay willnt do it for you lol good luck on that wee rom it a good place 2 start
super.sense on x8

I'm gonna start by training only doing some changes in roms made by other developers and building them so I can see how the kitchen works, then I will try to make changes in apks (basically changing themes and icons) and then I will start doing my own roms with some tips from the developers

I hardly see the point of creating another 2.1 ROM when you already have a fully working one. oO

Nice idea. Is it possible that 2.1 can support app2sd which I think is for 2.2 and above? I'm having an headachd now. Lol.
Sent from my X8 using XDA App

in my opinion this is an absolutely brilliant idea.

is, I had a similar idea yesterday, but I'm developing my first ROM, which is 2.1 with a modified framework and removing 70% of applications sony ericsson (album, player, video player, stupid games, etc.) by exchanging the native android and keeping only the message service, telephone, alarm and other applications were still using the sony ericsson.

Muito boa ideia!
I would use 2.1 modded CUSTOM ROM. I mean, I have my xperia x8 running Stock ROM right now and I experimented all of custom ROMS I found here.
I loved it and I hated it. Before I stopped experimenting ROMS I loved NobodyAtall's miniCM6 Stable 2.2 ROM. It is wondefull, simple, lightwave, beautifull. But some bugs (like camera button), the missed application (like stock alarm and stock Contacts Manager) and some UI stuff I just didn't admit in my phone.
Now I have stock ROM and again I love it and hate it.
In my stock ROM I like UI theme, I like Alarm app, Contacts app and Dial theme (clean and simple, specially Contacts favourite).
I like full working android.
But I hate single widget launcher (I am Arc Launcher lover)
I hate the fact I can't use flash on my device.
I hate the fact that I have dual touch and my android 2.1 can't recognize it (only in games).
Well, I think if someone create a fullworking 2.1 ROM with stock contacts manager, dialpad, alarm, stock theme, native Arc Launcher, Flash support and native cypress module installed, I will have children with its dev.

Where i can get CM5??

i have CM5.0.6 for Nexus-One.
Edit:
Already cast my Custom Rom 2.1, if someone wants to test

Thanks for ROM! I really loved media controller in status pushdown window.
But it is not for me. I am a SE app lover (like dialler, contacts, timescape, alarm), and I am a android 2.1 and xperia x8 launcher hater (I love Arc Launcher). Any alternative for me?

I Will start my project in this Friday, it will take a lot of time so I can get a fully magnific Rom. My objective is to get a flexible Rom that as all that everybody wants. So I will try to do it really slim and with some flashable extras. It will give everybody the power to have the phone as they like to
Sorry for my bad English.

I don´t think so, but there is a fully working alternative named link2sd. I used it when running rooted 2.1. And it was great. A big andvantage is that you can move more to the SD compared to App2sd.

[ROM] AzusaROM (formly CoburnROM) - CommunityROM - RC1b 09/03/10

This ROM has been frozen, as I need time to rebuild the base on my 64bit ROM Cooking PC.
THIS ROM DOES NOT GIVE YOU ANDROID 2.x AT THIS POINT IN TIME, PLEASE DO NOT ASK "Do I get Android 2.1?"! I WILL BASE CoburnROM ON 2.1 WHEN THERE IS AN OFFICIAL WORKING BASE/RUU OUT!
Thanks to the wonderful magical powers of mainfram3, svprm, -bm-, and all the other devs and geeks that know my name, I present AzusaROM
Please, I am not taking other's work and claiming as my own. That would just be a n00bish thing to do. Credit is given where due. While it's still rough around the edges, this ROM is still in beta, and you are saying that if I brick your phone directly/indirectly of using this ROM, it's not my fault as you wanted to take the risk of doing so.

How can you thank us?
I accept donations, but please also donate to the folks that hacked the Tattoo in the first place. Without them, there would be no CoburnROM. Even if you split the $20 and donate $1 each to the devs, that money could keep devs alive and provide food on their table. You don't have to donate, that's okay.
Thanks, Credits, Misc Stuffs
mainfram3, for his custom recovery and boot image. He's the one that started it all.
-bm-, for his anti-spam control. He should be promoted as a moderator, he does his best at keeping the n00bs at bay.
svprm, for being the first tester.
....and everyone else for being part of the wonderful XDA-Devs community where Android pwns that so-called iPhone.
Please keep this thread on track for discussion about the ROM itself. Otherwise, go bump some other thread. CoburnROM is in early stages, so don't fret. Let the fun begin!
Jeeehaaaa!
You're rocking!
I would propose one modification for mainfram3's boot-image: Automatic loading of tattoo-hack.ko at boot, so that all partitions are really writable from the beginning.
I think I donated 10$ weeks ago at a point where I never guessed that I would soon take my own little part in developing ;-)
Keep on going!

JIT should only be an option to activate, there are many reports about higher speed for the price of stability. A cyanogen-dev wrote inside the thread that you linked, that the unstability is the reason why they don't include JIT to cyanogen-ROMS at the moment!

Sense UI is going to be enabled by default. I can however take out the Rosie.apk and see what it'll do (if it'll revert back to the default Android home screen), but this build will have Sense UI.
You can be a tester, or if you wanna do a iPhone/Windows Mobile clone theme or a Lava Red/Midnight Blue/Grass Green theme, it's all welcome. SuperD or something in the Dream dev forum looks sexy with it's Windows 7 icons and glossy black graphics... (BTW, I do have iPhone icons that I aim to customize CoburnROM with to add a bit of an Apple feel to it. )
Custom 2.1 is a possibility, I'm letting the more-experienced devs play with their toys and porting Android 2.1 to the Tattoo. If we have a stable 2.1 base, I'll base CoburnROM on their 2.1 base.

I am almost finished making a test ROM build, I've customised build.prop and changed the model name to something more interesting (it now reports "CoburnROM Azusa" as the model name). I just need to make the update script, stick su in there, and sign the zip.
EDIT: Going to change the boot screensound to the PlayStation BIOS Startup Sound, and also going to change the boot logo... Any suggestions?

Haha. Ditch that iPhone theme idea then...
Anyone got an idea for the boot screen?
How about trying something with this:
Nice lol.
I think this rom is decent rom.
Haha, creative. I'll use it.
Okay, we've got a alpha test CoburnROM ready to rock.
I go to flash it (after signing it with testsign) using mainfram3's custom recovery, it finds the image, verifies it's correct, goes to start installing the image, and then bombs out with "Installation Aborted!"
What. The. F**k?
Unless I goofed up the install script... This is not looking good, gonna have to search for the issue...
try it into console?
PD: Thanks for you work
Better default boot image in my opinion.
I think problem with alpha custom recovery.
Mainfram3 will help you abt this.
coburn i can't understand the problem :S you wipe and then started the installation ?does the prgress bar loads an then sais Installation Aborted! or it doesn't even loads ?

[28 OCT][MOD][ROM] Mik'o'Void (Kezvoid) Beta 1 [Android 2.3.7, .32 Kernel]

Info:
I decided to play around with Android Kitchen and ended up crossing my two favorite ROMs together: Mik's CM7 Port and knzo's #voidforever. I am pleased with the end result, and decided I would share it with the community, for whomever who might want to try it. This was my first try at a ROM and I did it in a few hours, so excuse me for bugs I might have not found. But I always appriciate feedback =P
More detailed description:
When it comes to a more detailed description, I would have to say that the core framework is from Mik's CM7, but I initially crossed over the app folder from #void-forever to obtain a light ROM that is highly customizable and then I made the necessary adjustments to make it stable aswell (initially running the GB 2.3.4 SystemUI on the 2.3.7 framework didn't go that well xD). The advantage of crossing them over is that, you can have Mik's CM7, but then you build it to be as you want it to be (as you did with #void roms). I wouldn't say that it's Mik's CM7 that wins from the exchange, but rather #void, since this is built to be more #void-like, kind of an update to #void removing the bugs that it had from CM7 at the time and updating it to GB 2.3.7.

Beta1 (27-10-2011):
- Crossed Mik's 6.5.8 and #void forever
- Added Galaxy Nexus boot animation (by Janni: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295933)
- Changed Kernel to fserve's v18.4c
- Added Android Market 3.2.0
Features:
- rooted
- apps deodex'd
- busybox
- zipalligned
- CM7 Screenshot
- Highly customizable in #void tradition
- Running Mik's CM7 Port (GB 2.3.7)
Known Bugs:
- ADW Acts like it was just installed on first boot (not really a bug, I know xD)
- Lockscreen doesn't say when Phone is charging
- In account settings, Calendar doesn't sync, for obvious reasons since there is no Calendar app.
- GPS and 3G don't seem to be working (if anyone could confirm I would be grateful)
To-do:
- Integrate Go Launcher Ex
- Create addon package (Calendar, FM Radio)
This ROM can go @ 600-825MHz for a Quadrant Score of 1360. For a2sd I recommend Link2SD
Download here.
P.S. Screenshot's coming tomorrow. Me too lazy right now xD
Thanks to every dev in xda for making all this possible:
knzo, franco, fserve, andy, ciaox and all others I might forget. They made this ROM possible.
Installation Instructions:
1. Enter recovery (vol down + home while booting)
2. Backup your current ROM (in case you want to roll back)
3. Wipe cache+userdata+format /system
4. Flash downloaded ZIP.
5. Enjoy!

If you dont mind me asking, what exactly special does #void bring to miks rom?
Also do you have the apps from Mik_os or just the framework, as things like fm is also missing from #void.
It would be helpful for members to have a more specific detailed difference list.

Did #void come with the FM radio? I'm pretty sure it was an addon, as I'm planning to make it.

Really don't know what else to say, that's pretty much all that it is xD
I was planning to work on it a little more today, but unfortunately I'm having issues with my usual Linux distro of choice (Ubuntu) so I need to choose an alternative -.-

when i go to the market i can't uninstall the adw launcher. where it's supposed to say you can open or uninstall the app (or update if it hasn't been updated since the most recent update) it's just blank.
Excellent work! I'll waiting for the addon package!
What can I say, it's Awesome! I was planning to make someting similar like this, but I can see someone was faster. Well, I saw this and as Mik's CyanogenMod has lot's of crap (no offence mik, your rom is good but ..) in it, so why not to try. Only thing, I don't like about your rom, it uses ADW as default Launcher, I deleted original ADW from /system/app and replaced it with (in my opinion) better LauncherPro. I would recommend to use Zeam Launcher as default but latest versions of Zeam are slower and lagging more.
I hope my english is readable and understandable.

What kind of advantage could a user get from using your ROM compared to others, ie. Rempuzzle?

Yes it is 2.2. The clock in one of the screenshots(with launcherpro) is found on xda, if thats what confused you.

Same here!
Ok my bad for jumping on you without checking the zip, screenshot shows an app that is not developer friendly. Promotion of such apps is not good.
Still I standby my words of at least trying to get permissions from the apps developer to include the app in a rom.
Also you could do so much more in reducing the bloat on this if you looked into things a little deeper.
I welcome all new roms so long as the effort is put into making it different from the norm.
Goodluck and I apologize for my over the top previous now edited post.
You would be wise to learn rules and common etiquette regarding xda and developement.

Its seems like there is a tonne of paid apps in here. I havent looked either, but looking at the screenshots it seems that way.

Its widgets are messed. This is the clean stock type version. Also he went on to 2.7 which looks ugly as per me and old version is to be found nowhere. Many other standard apps are included in this as well.

That was just an insult that I couldn't tolerate. Kylon is great at what he does. He had tried his level best in cooking such great roms. And about what you mentioned about links to his previous work, if you want I can upload it and give it to you. Hope I wasn't rude. I was just trying to be pretty straight
Edit : edited my comment after ensuring things a little further

Ok this could just be a mistake of not knowing how things run on xda etc. Lets not condemn ontheflames just yet. Give him the chance to explain and remove certain issues.

Took the .zip apart.
The ROM doesn't contain any paid apps.
Protip for OP: When putting up screenshots for your ROM, try to not have your own apps on it.

Yep just done the same lol. But there is nothing special here, this could be stripped so much without any issues.
I tried download twice straight after my op, both failed!! Did otf get to his zip and edit it before a successful download was made by us? And removed some apks? Mmmmmm I guess we will never know.
Was online at time of post ...........now gone lol.
I will now go edit my rant. Lol.

1- we have already the stock rom you only add " boost " and zipalign.
2- kylon already do that.
So mod delete this thread.

Don't be so stupid...........
This could possibly be the start of another great rom for the wildfire. Probably not but still give the guy a chance before you jump down his throat. I know i normally jump on the bandwagon or even start it rolling when so called devs open threads with something we already have but apart from some silly mistakes in the op (*****ing about other roms bugs and saying this is the smoothest experience) i can't see anything wrong with him posting a new stock rom. Just think if people didn't take stock roms or stock aosp roms and modify them you wouldn't have cm, miui, lewa, mokee os etc etc
I'm not saying this rom will be the next *any of the above* as thats impossible for one man to create from a froyo rom but give him a little chance.
Only thing i'd ask the mods to do is delete every post in this thread except the first few......
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
I hear what your saying there scratch, I agree on giving him a chance. As ive said if its got something different! Then why not. On looking at the rom its not got any special twists or turns I'm afraid. As we both know sense roms are somewhat the easier to mod and make look quite unique to our likings. I still wish otf the best of luck with this though.
I also + 1 on mods to delete all posts baring initial op and lets start again.
O/T have you sorted all your issues out now with your s2 mate? Been a bit too busy lately to stalk you

Sorry guys, I'm no developer. I'm just 17..I just wished to share my try on a perfect rom. As the world caters to bright pages I designed the first one. However it's upto u to have it or forget it. Really sorry about blackmart. But almost all the apps I have are free. Hope u treat it as a way u would have expected had it been ur first thread.
Edit: Hello all, at first I didnt get what u guys were saying. Now I get it. I need to clarify. This zip never contained any paid/free apps. Im educated at least till this level. The screenshots are my personal!! Hope u understand this and change your posts. Pl consider this. And im not a stupid person to change zips so fast as someone said earlier.

1. CyanMobile : You say it's bad ? and no Hindi ? At least, accept it, i'm statisfied, because it's customization, you are too lazy to do a customization and Google Search
2. Mebitek CM7.2 : No soft-button ? Someone already make it, DO A GOOGLE SEARCH OR FORUM SEARCH, n00b !

Well, then try got 10 post, here.
You know alot about computer ? Hello.... I'm Android & Advanced Linux Developer, sorry for making a mistake.
Seems, i think you should stick out with MORE v1.4 or v2.0, maybe Chocobread V3.2, since Stock ROM is best.

more stable and more support from samsung

[GUIDE/INFO] Which ROM is the best for my needs?

I see a lot of threads created by users with one question:
What is the BEST ROM for the Sony Xperia SP?
These kind of threads are not allowed here on XDA so I almost instantly report them
Well to give a straight answer to the question:
NONE!!!
Ofcourse you want to know Why?
~ Well lets start with the very beginning shall we?
There are a lot of diffrent custom ROMS. I know of the following:
No doubt there are more but I dont want a list that is miles long
CyanogenMod
AOSP (Android Open Source Project)
AOKP
Panandroid
MIUI
Omni ROM
Crystal PA
Carbon ROM
And ofcourse we have ROMS that are Stock Based.
To define Stock Based: Stock based are ROMS made from the firmware that has been released for any phone.
Below you see a picture with the Plain Stock Android Look and Sony UI:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
This is one of the major diffences between the Plain Stock Android (from Google) and the Plain Stock from Sony. Ofcourse this is not the only diffrence. ROMS like CyanogenMOD, AOKP, AOSP, Omni and Panandroid do have the looks of Plain Android from Google.
As you may know by now Sony has his own Skin (duh!).. This skin is a layer on top of the Plain Android build from Google and includes:
Diffrent looks
Other App drawer
Other Homescreen layout
Other phone, conctact and messaging apps
Themed settings app
Themed Statusbar
Sony is the only brand that has his own theme engine!! Other brands like HTC, LG and Samsung have their own device/brand specific things
~ Some other layers on top of Android:
Samsung Touchwiz (Galaxy S4) against Sony UI:
HTC Sense 6 (From the M8) agains Sony UI from the KitKat update or Z2:
The above pictures only shows the diffrence between all the looks of the homescreen.. These diffrence are also found in:
App Drawer
Statusbar and notification area
Settings
On Screen buttons (only if the phone has them)
Apps
~ Lets get back to the Custom ROM talk shall we?
The main issue with most users is the performance of all the ROMS.. Plain Stock ROM released by Sony should be stable for daily use. This is not always the case and Sony is not the only brand that has issues with either updates, or their software.. Let me recall a few things:
Huawei Acend P6: 1 big bug. Wifi does not reconnect automaticly.. Wifi needs to be turned off and on again for connection
Samsung Galaxy S2: Update from GingerBread to Ice Cream Sandwich had battery drain issues
HTC One X: Hardware issues; poor wifi signal
Samsun Galaxy S3: No KitKat due to ammount of bloatware from Samsung
Samsun Galaxy Advance: Major lag since Jelly Bean update
So we are not allone when it comes to software or in some cases hardware. :victory:
Back to performance....
We all know that hardware plays a big part in terms of performance. Our Sony Xperia SP has good hardware for a mid end device.
Our hardware in short:
Snapdragon Dual Core running 1.7 Ghz
Adreno 320
1 GB RAM
All the ROMS will be running just fine on our device.. Our hardware is good enough to run it without issues..
We only need to remember a few words:
Testing, Alpha, Beta, Stable, WIP
Testing: Build is done but still in testing.. Things could be removed, added or fixed in a later build
Alpha: Build works proper but there are some bugs that keep the ROM from being a daily driver
Beta: Build is working enough for a daily driver but there are still some bugs
Stable:Build is stable enough for daily use. All the major issues and bugs are fixed and gone but it is possible you encounter one or two.
WIP:Work In Progress. ROM is build but far from stable and the work is in progress
Almost all the ROMS for our device are either in Beta or in Stable status. Which means that all the ROMS are working proper enough for daily use!
Thanks to all the hard working developers!! Thanks guys
But lets stop here for a second.. Not all the ROMs have the same feeling or gaming performance (as stated by some users) as stock ROM... Why is that...
This is an question I just dont know how to answer. All the ROMS are using other sources from other developers ( or development teams) so it is possible that a bug or optimatisation is missed. Just keep reporting bugs an issues to the developer and someday it will be fixed
So before I end this massive post I need you to do a small check list:
I want Root? (if Yes go to 3 if no go to 2)
Dont change anything
Root the device and go to 4
I want a custom ROM? If yes go to 6 if no go to 5
Install a pre rooted Stock ROM (See Android Development)
I am able to unlock my bootloader (Yes I can but I dont want to; go to 7, No I cant; go to 7, Yes i will unlock it; go to 8)
Install any custom ROM for Locked Bootloaders (Yes you can choose CyanogenMod for LB Look in the Original Android Development Section)
Unlock the bootloader and install any custom ROM you want!
How do I know which custom ROM suits my needs?
Answer:
BACK UP AND TRY OUT!!
You need to determine the following things for yourself:
Do I want the latest Android version?
Do I want to have Plain Android?
Do I want the SonyUI?
Am I willing to test things out?
Please remember some of the development rules:
Do not ask for ETA
Do not post issues without proper documentary like logcat, dmsg etc
Do not spam the development thread for requests
Be nice to each other
Be nice to the developer because he or she has worked hard on their rom
Moderator request : Make this a sticky thread...
Finally someone said it with big letters..Thank you @mrjraider !
That would be the third or fourth thread of me that is a stickey

Also I will try to update this thread from time to time
And I believe that these kind of threads should also be made in the General Android section of XDA

None : they all have little problems but these are different for each ROM. Again a problem could make one user consider the ROM unstable but not another user depending on their usage.
