Broke my NC USB Cable - Nook Color General

Well most of you already know that NC's USB cable's tip is delicate & today I broke it
I Googled & found that those Non B&N cables take a lot of time compared to original ones. Is it true ? Or Cheap cables also work ?
Some Black Berry phone cables are also similar [USB Hot sync] can I use them ?
Problem is I am from India & importing original cable costs a bomb :-/
they still giving free cable replacement or stopped ? I know they never ship it to India

Cheap cables do not have the necessary extra pins. A cable at B&N is $15. I understand the shipping may be costly but other cables will barely work if at all.

I had great luck repairing mine with super glue. The outer shell had started to crack but did not completely shatter. Super glue bonded the connector shell back together and is holding the plug in place. Your mileage may vary.
B&N definitely need to redesign the connector though.

I'm from the Philippines, and Barnes&Noble had replaced my NC's USB cable free of charge TWICE now. The original USB cable broke after two weeks of using it. I called them through Skype, which didn't cost me anything. All you need to tell them is that your USB cable broke and you want a replacement. All NC's USB cables are covered by a 1 year warranty. Everyone knows how crappy the NCs USB cables are--even b&n admits it. Once you get them on the phone, all they would ask you is to provide the email you used to register your nook, the shipping address you put in your b&n account, and sometimes they ask you about the last four digits of your credit card if you put it in your b&n account as well. Lastly, of course, the serial no. of your NC which you can find in the NC's box or by logging in your b&n account. Your main problem is that b&n doesnt ship warranty items outside continental US. In my case, I had a friend in the US whom I made as the recipient of the USB cable, and had her ship it in the Philippines.

Guys thank you for replying I will try free cable from nook color, will ask my friends....
What is amp rating of Nook cable ? What if I use my iPhone 4's charger with Nokia's mini USB cable ? Will that do ? or any harm ?
I am using the stock charger with Nokia's cable & I think it will take 10-15 hours for a full charge :-/
I also found a black berry mobile's cable whose rating is 0.5A.
Thank you !

Nothing will work, i am also from India. I tried everything, even root level kernel modifications to allow high current charging. In the end had to get a new one, someone here on xda was kind enough to ship it for me though. Seriously xda rocks...!!

What were they thinking when they designed the cable??

Nook's AC adapter pumps out 1.9amps, most USB cables and adapters pump out around 1amp(at least most around my house). I can't say for sure how much the cable is rated for but considering the Nook's adapter pumps out 1.9amps I'd say it's about the same. If you don't have the Nook's AC adapter you'll have to use you're computer's USB port.

I have it's adapter, it is working fine. But cable ? it is broke now. So I have to find a 1.9AMP cable ?

The Nook's cable is pretty much proprietary when it comes to charging(notice it isn't your average micro usb plug on the end). Normal micro usb cables work fine for data transfers and trickle charging(ie: takes forever to charge and will actually continue to loose charge if you use the Nook while charging) In the end I'd look into a way to get the official cable. If you aren't in the US you might try looking elsewhere online or ask someone here on XDA if they'd be kind enough to forward the package.

USB to Power Outlet adapter?

Where can I buy more of the little adapter that you plug the USB cable in to, then plug the adapter into to your wall power outlet?
I'm planning on coupling it with this cable: monoprice!com/products/product.asp?c_id=103&cp_id=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=5459&seq=1&format=2
My Incredible charges MUCH faster when plugged in to a power outlet than it does when plugged in to USB.
I just bought two off of Ebay that I will be trying out. I will let you know if they work which ones they are. I do know that the one from Monoprice.com doesn't work well so I would avoid that one.
Ok I got a few of these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...&_trkparms=algo=LVI&its=I&otn=2#ht_500wt_1182
"PLO" brand "Powerbug" - meant for GPS devices but they work perfect with the incredible. 5v, 1A, 5watt (same as stock HTC charger). I got two at $8 each so not bad. They are nice looking compared to the generic Monoprice usb charger.
EDIT ** Don't think these have as much power as the stock charger. Spare parts states "Charging (USB)" when using these, so it's like being plugged up to a computer. Still a good deal at $8
The usb to wall plugs from monoprice are no good. I ordered several before I knew better. None of them worked properly...or for Any longer than 20 minutes.

Have you actually got it and tried it and it works? I did a search on Best Buy's website and they have them but they're $27! If yours works, I'll snag a few off of ebay before people realize how useful they are and jack the price up.
Powerbug description says mini-USB, Incredible uses Micro USB B...good luck. Let us know how they work...
I use a Boxwave Versa Charger. Plugs into mains or into car DC power outlet.

It sure does, however, if you take a look at the picture, its simply a USB slot that the mini-usb cable plugs into, which means that any USB cable could work as the OP asked about. I'd say this would work well. However, I grabbed http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/powerduouniversal and it works great and I can just move my cable from my car to my house and have power everywhere.
don't buy aftermarket USB A/C adapters unless it's just for an overnight charge. You can't use the screen when using an aftermarket adapter. It's quite annoying. every single touch screen phone I have had has this problem.

Yes, but I have a variety of micro usb cables already. Take mini usb cable, throw in trash, use your own micro usb cables.

Yes I bought two and both of them work fine. Not sure if they charge as fast or not as the STOCK charger, but they are rated the exact same. The only thing I don't like about them is they have a blue light around the USB port. I found those at $8 each which is a lot better than paying $30 each somewhere else. I found these in another thread and the person was finding them even cheaper at some discount store I had never heard of. I'll leave one at work, one out in the garage or somewhere. The HTC charger will stay in the bedroom.

That's not true. While the monoprice wall charger DID have a screen issue, the screen works perfectly fine with these chargers. And I used all kinds of chargers with my previous HTC Touch and never had a screen issue.

I have several aftermarket USB AC heads that work just fine with the Incredible. All of them purchased some time ago.
I've been using my old iphone power blocks without any problems, though its only been a couple days if charging.
Depending on the price, you may be able to snag some fairly cheap with all of the companies that make cheap iphone/ipod accessories. Unfortunately I have enough power blocks so I don't have a need to buy/test any others.
I would be curious about other peoples experiences though.

I have some Ipod AC adapters as well. I was thinking they'd be safe to use since lower amp for the Incredible... but what of the reverse? Can you use the Incredible AC wall block safely on other devices? It's 1A instead of the .5A for Iphone/Ipod.
I'm trying to travel with less charges!

anyone know where i can find a longer charging cable

I'm looking for a longer charging cable for my DROID 3, the one that come with the phone is too short. I have read that using cheap cables or cables that didn't come with the phone may cause problems.
Mediabridge makes a 6 foot micro usb cable that works great for charging and to a PC. It's on amazon for 6 bucks.
I just use a usb extension cable, seems to work fine
I always buy cables from Monoprice. I've been using a 10ft micro usb cable from them since I first got my OG Droid with no problems.

same here, thats one of the great things about a phone with a USB charger. you can just put an extender in the main charger and connect the OEM charging cord to its female connector. Sometimes i do wish i had one longer cord though because the cables come disconnected pretty easily if you tug on the phone.

Agreed i use a 16 foot BELKIN extension cable lol(use it for other things besides phone).
Cheap chargers may cause issues, but pretty much any USB cable should be fine. A really cheap long cable could have data transfer issues due to not having enough shielding, but for simply charging it would still work.

Search ADP-H01. Due to the same proprietary nature of the NC's charging cable that causes it to break so easily in the first place, about $20 is the best you are gonna get from any seller you can trust.

I have tried two cheap off brand cables that advertised they were designed for the nook color. They were simply microUSB cables and charged but very slowly. I bought the bullet and get an authentic one from B&N and now it charges so much faster.
Just bought one of these on ebay for $3.63, free shipping. Will give a report on its performance when it arrives.

Sorry to burst your bubble before it comes, but there's one things on the page that is a dead giveaway of it's authenticity:
Compatible With
Amazon: Kindle 2, Kindle 3 / Wi-Fi / 3G + Wi-Fi, Kindle DX
Barnes & Noble: Nook, Nook Color
BlackBerry: etc...

If it's compatible with ALL of these, then it's only a micro usb cable, not the proprietary one shipped with the Nook Color.

It isn't a generic USB cable, as it has a transformer on the micro USB end and says it's a dual USB / charger cable. It probably won't charge as fast as the OEM cable, but it's better than nothing.

Cables cable cables

I'm in the market for a new cable to charge my Note but there is so many in the market that i'm quite confused.
I know that the Note uses a micro usb to usb wire. I'm using a 1.8m cable that i
got when i bought a kindle and i am looking to purchase one at the same length
as the kindle wire is peeling near the connection point , and it is quite un sightly...

This would work right? It is named micro b instead of micro usb though. .

Any reason you can say why it is not ideal to use USB cable to power a phone ?
I have been using USB cable most of the time to charge my phone from laptop. I was under the impression that slow charge is always good for batteries.
Please explain
I believe it would be because he has read the product description. It doesn't state that it shouldn't be used for charging, but just to make sure that your device can take the amperage of the cable. This cable is specified for use with Continually connecting devices (eg printers, HDD etc), and not for charging. The Link below can be purchased in a 2m Length (slightly longer).

Thanks all.
Found out that amazon doesn't ship to singapore. Have decided to purchase from gmarket although refunds are harder.
The seller is here: http://list.qoo10.sg/item/FREE-GIFTS-SAMSUNG-GALAXY-S3-CASES/405902986
And to those saying that other wires apard from the one given by samsung.
I have been using the kindle one since i bought my note. And it is still going
strong. Apart from the ics brick bug that got repaired by warranty.
Also by the time it really starts to show that your battery is spoilt. Your plan
with whatever telco should have expired and you are entitled to a cheaper phone

Decent USB cable in the UK?

Hi,
Can anyone recommend a decent USB cable for my sons N7?
Need to get a replacement, but the ones i currently have are not beefy enough to charge properly.
Cheers

Same problem, can only find pathetic skinny fragile things.
I have used this cable without any probs
AKASA part no AK-CBUB05-10BK
bought from CPC order code CS20881
Try a flat ribbon cable, Amazon Uk have them http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb...onics&rh=i:electronics,k:flat micro usb cable Various lengths and colours. I use a standard 1.2mtr blue one that I bought last year.
I'm using Logitech cable for charging (got it with the mouse) and Nokia cable for PC (they are always connected, that's why separate cables), so get one of those.
I've only had problems with 3 years old Samsung cable because it kept falling out (it stays in on my SE phone)
I really doubt beefyness of the cable affects charging though. I charged my tabled on just about any cable I've found laying around in the house with no problems
The reason as to why your charge cannot keep up is most likely due to using a charger with lower amperage (i.e 1amp/1A).
As long as you purchase a 2amp charger and compatible usb cable, then you shouldn't have any more issues with draining the battery faster than it can be charged thanks to the 2amp charge rate.

Thanks for the reply guys, this is using the Asus charger that came with the device, just that the original cable split, so I need a replacement.

Trick is to get a short a cable as you can. The impedance really effects charging. The difference between my stock and a 6' cable is like a 60% drop.
