I rooted earlier this year a NC with autonooter 3.0 and its been working fine but I haven't paid much attention since. I skipped the 1.2 update, not sure how, but now there is 1.3 update.
We have been using fine since the root and never has it tried to update to 1.2, but everyone seems worried about skipping these updates. Have I been lucky? Is this 1.3 update going to happen whether I want it to or not?
We have used the nook, rebooted several time with a dead battery and never has an update happened. Am I missing something? I'm happy with the NC asos with this root, and still buy things from the BN store and Market.

I have a problem where my NC seems to prefer 1.0.0. So far, every time I manually update it to 1.0.1 it eventually (not immediately) goes through another update automatically & ends up at 1.0.0. I have manually updated to 1.0.1 five times now & am currently back to 1.0.0.
Is there some file that makes it want to do this? How can I stop it?

Interesting, so is this to say that there is a READ ONLY version of the 1.0.0 ROM on the device and even if you bork /system you can recover from that?
If so, that's really cool. And why not, there's enough space in the thing for it..
Hey there Guys & Gals,
Searched throughout the forums and couldn't seem to find a straight answer on this.
I originally rooted my wife's 1.0.1 NC using Autonooter. That worked out great and then I was able to sideload the 1.1.0 NC updated using ROM Manager and CWR to apply the pre-rooted update ROM (this is where I got the pre-rooted sideload: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932145). After that I used an SQL editor to turn all the software updates to manual. This manual switch has held the 1.2.0 update off and everything is working great.
However, I'm really interested in 1.2.0 and would love to apply another sideloaded, pre-rooted update IF that exists. Does anyone know if this is out there? It sounds like most NC owners are running CM7 now as opposed to going down the stock rooted (no ROM) version of the NC. Is there anyone who was successfully able to load up rooted 1.2 from rooted 1.1 without having to resort to an alternate ROM?
As a side question, has any 1.1 NC owners had success with the Netflix app or does that absolutely require at least 1.2 to work correctly?
Thanks for your help!!!

Wanted to bump this one again in case anyone had any suggestions. If not, I'll let this thread die.
Same boat here. I'm still running 1.1 with updates set to manual but I have CM7 on SD. I would also like to update to 1.2 but as far as I know, the only way to do it is to return to stock, unrooted 1.1 and then apply the 1.2 update from B&N. After that, you have the manual nooter option to root 1.2.
Have not been able to get Netflix to work on either stock 1.1 or CM7 with and edited build.pro file. It doesn't show up in the Market so I haven't even been able to try to get it to work.
I know there's a CWM-compatible stock 1.2 ROM floating around the dev forum, but I don't know about pre-rooted. It would at least save you unrooting 1.1.
Sounds like best option is to use the 1.2 CWM capable update and then autonoot again... hmmmm. Everything is working great now and I don't want to mess anything up, but netflix and flash are both very tempting...
Alright I rooted my Nook a few days ago. I have a 1.2.0 so unfortunately I used an older version of ManualNooter and then installed the latest version on top of it. It worked fine until I downloaded Angry birds from the market, after that NO GOOGLE apps worked, such as Gmail, market, etc.
So I unrooted my Nook. Unfortunately the only apparent stock image out there for unrooting is 1.0.1....but I did it anyway.
It seemed to work but when I looked for the storage on my Nook, it said 0B of 0B used. So it seems that my internal storage has disappeared!
Aside from that....nothing will download and I can't hook my Nook to my computer, it just doesn't recognize it. (believe me I tried everything, I even called support, they just wanted to give me a new USB, but that's not the problem)
I was trying to update it back to 1.2.0 but clearly I can't if I can't even download it on my Nook! What is going on? I never hooked it to my computer before I rooted it, so I don't know if it truly couldn't connect beforehand (but I've heard its a common problem)
Anyone have these issues? I just want to get the storage found, hook up to my computer so I can properly re-root my nook to hopefully cm7 this time because I've heard that is much more stable than ManualNooter.
I'm at the end of my wits, I got this a few days ago, so I'm thinking of trying to exchange or return it if I can't fix it.
Any suggestions?
It appears you are having a similar issue to this user:

Did you start with a "blue dot" Nook with the new partition sizes? If so, I don't know how trying to restore with a 1.0.1 image made for the old partitions affects your device. That may be the problem. This would require you to repartition your device (see thread in this forum) and restore again with 1.0.1. Just a thought. Maybe someone else will chime in. Might be something very simple that we are not thinking about.
Edit: What version of CWR are you using?
I have a rooted Nook Color 1.1. It has OTA updates blocked and is working okay. I plan to return to full stock using the 8 resets or similar method. When I do, I presume that it will back to 1.0.1 which is where it was when purchased and unregistered.
My question is can I just reregister, install the 1.3 update, and go from there or do I need to apply all of the previous updates (1.1.0, 1.2.0, etc.)?
Any help would be appreciated.
I also am running rooted 1.1 with OTA blocked. I am not sure but I think going back to stock is more complicated than just doing 8 resets. I also think it matters whether you have CWM on internal memory or on and sdcard. I can't help you but I'm just saying that you need to research a bit. Perhaps someone who knows more than I do will chime in. Good luck!
Hi,
I recently updated my Nook Color to 1.4.1 and I really like it.
But... what would be the minimum amount of futzing around I would need to do to the NC to get it to run faster (overclock?)?
I imagine I'd have to root but I am not too interested in doing anything to the stock OS. I really just would like to get the tablet to be even faster if that is possible.
Any links or suggestions? Thanks!
You can't do anything without rooting.....
Yeah, figured that would be the least I'd have to do... now to start the search for instructions. Did 1.4.1 get root already?
Manualnooter successfully roots the Nok Color running B&N 1.4.1 firmware:
