So I came from a Droid 1. I loved the dev following it had/has and the neat accessories that came out for it...mostly the car mount/dock. Once I got my Droid 3 the mount was useless...which kind of annoyed me. So I set out to find a universal mount, but wasn't too hopeful after seeing the big ugly adjustable beasts that lurk on eBay. Then I came across the ExoMount by ExoGear. It's so clean looking, easy to use, and relatively cheap. Check it out!

intersting... been debating on the dock situation. maybe i'll just skip waiting for a bundle and go for this job. hmm... at least then i'd be able to use HDMI in the car.
Awesome! That is truly the first dock that has ever even appealed to me. I love how versatile it is.
Can you report on how well the mount sticks to the car dashboard. I have read some reviews on their web site and some say it works and some say not.
Thanks.
thinking about picking up a couple. they can be had on Amazon for $18. my dash has a textured finish, so i'm interested in seeing if it will stick myself. even if it doesn't, i'll settle for the windshield. i'm just sick of spending $30 for a proprietary piece of plastic.
Seems that due to the shape of the keyboard bezel, it will be very hard for the dpad to have a decent grip. Hope they can get it to work.
Well the main issue with this mount is that you cannot open the keyboard to type. I use the keyboard open when the phone is mounted with my dock.
Wilbur
Does the mount stick to the dashboard. I have the D 3 car mount and would use the base with it to mount into the car. Just concerned that the mount will not stick to the dashboard.
Thanks.

From what I've seen, the d3 dock doesn't let you use the keyboard either
I actually use a d2 right now, with,my old d1 dock that I modified. I don't ue the touch screen for typing really, just the hardware ones. I'm upgrading to the d3 this month so that's why I'm browsing these forums.
And I use the mount to my windshield not the dash.

Has anybody purchased this yet and tried on their car dashboard? The reviews seem good, but seem to be split between it works/not works on car dashboards.
Thanks.
I got one and it didn't stick well to the leather portion, no surprise, but it did well on the plastic part. I like it.

been meaning to update this thread. the sticky sticks to my car's dash just fine, it's the dock itself that sucks. the arm bends and flexes and the grip of the clip isn't all the strong. plus, you need to use two hands to get your phone in there, so if you suddenly decide to whip out navigation, or stream music, and you want it in the dock, you'll need to be stopped just to get it in there.
the flex in the arm is a joke. i'm glad i didn't pay full price for one. plus, since moto switched to USB designation for the dock apps, it doesn't serve its purpose well.
Was thinking about using the base to still to the dashboard, but use the D 3 car mount to put the phone in. Looks like the ball mount would fit. Just have trouble sticking things to the dashboard, is why I ask.
Thanks.
Wow this is impressively simple (attach a hair clip to a dock, impressive) and looks to be better than the generic dock I bought from Verizon. I intend to buy this, probably from amazon.
Anyone else make the jump and have thoughts on the matter?

I use the oem dock on the droid 3 and the droid x. I like the OEM car docks and think they work great. I can easily mount both of these phones with one hand and the dashboard works well on the liberty rom. The stock dashboard is also pretty good in my opinion.
See, I'm glad you say that, because I am planning on getting the official dock later this year. The packaging of it is kinda weird; on Motorola's site, it's the dock and line in cable PLUS the carcharger for $60, but on Amazon it's the dock and line in for $40 and the charger seperate for like $12. I think they do have another package at Amazon with everything but it's like $70.

Any recommendations on a dock where you can use the hardware keyboard?

I will need to switch to Verizon within the next few months (due to work reasons). I am currently using a Nexus One on TMobile and plan to get the Droid Incredible on Verizon when I switch.
I am waiting patiently for root access to be gained but also had some other concerns before switching. A main concern is that I have not heard mention of car/home docks for the device.
I currently own the car and home docks for the Nexus One and use them regularly. I am hoping the Incredible will also have a nice docking system like this.
I need a dock and a car mount, too! I have to ask, but does N1 stuff work with DI?

no.........
I just purchased a general use windshield mount from best buy which works pretty well on the Incredible.
I would suggest ProClipUSA they offer a wide variety of windshield mounts and you can just swap out the device holder if you carry more than one item with you or you change phones often.

This issue, for me, is not holding the device. I like having a car dock like the Nexus One because it provides integrated charging functionality. I do not want to fiddle around with an extra adapter and plugging in my device. I want to be able to drop my device into the dock and have it do what I want it to do
Also, the N1 car dock launches Car Home upon docking. Just perfect.
I got a factory windshield mount today.
It's pretty slick. It's a clip in, belt holder, but the back of it allows it to mount to the neck of the window piece.
There's even a cutout in the holder so you can videos while you drives

It's not, unless there's a side manual plug in type port!
Currently own the car dock mentioned in the thread, not overly impressed with it, but maybe I didnt bother to take the time to make it work. Came from the droid dock, which went where you put it and stayed there, especially helpful for when you have to plug it in. This dock has 3-4 articulated points that dont work so hot, then the fact that its actually a holster "attached" to the actual dock through a quarter inch piece of plastic adds another element of instability to the system. Tightening the joints does not help much, the holster clip still rotates freely and overall makes plugging the phone in while docked a major pain, in most cases requiring both hands to hold the phone still enough to plug it in. The window mount also leaves something to be desired, after dumping my incredible on the floor for the 3rd time, I gave up on the thing. I know how to apply suction mounts and this one falls well short, maybe I just got a bad one or something, but it will not stay on the windshield while the weight of the phone is on it. Overall, threw it away because I wanted just a car dock, if I wanted a holster I would have bought a holster. If it had been incorporated into the mount in a better way to give more stability to the dock I would be alright with it.
The belt clip, to me, is a huge feature. Don't need it? you just leave it clipped to the window mount.
I'm on the other side of the fence... to me it works great, has never fallen off my window, and has been very stable! It's better than the motodroid dock imho (sans the sideways orientation via magnets that the DI lacks).
When one comes out that has a charging port that you can dock to, I'm getting it! Isn't seidio working on one? Maybe it was another company?
You guys might want to try one of those universal grip holders. I don't really care for things hanging off my windshield, so I had an arkon SM429-SBH mega grip attached to the arkon air vent mount and it worked out really good with my G1. I tried putting my friend's Incredible in there and it fits, no blocked ports. they have a windshield mount too, if that's your thing.
So far all of the Incredible docks suck.
Unfortunately there is no car or home dock for the Droid Incredible that is nearly as good as the docks for the Nexus One. This is a sad fact of Incredible ownership.
It seems that iPhones get the best accessories.

I have a similar mount I bought on ebay (here), and while it works, the phone sits completely vertical, 90 degrees to the desktop. Not a very comfortable viewing angle, lol. I may get one of those like you bought, as it looks like it's held a bit better than the stand I have. I definitely don't mind plugging the phone in, as I have to do it anyway...
As for car docks, there is one company who has a powered doc. Proclip has this mount, but you have to purchase the attachment point for your vehicle seperately, and the price rolls up pretty fast (for my truck, it was 109 before shipping, so I'm holding off on it for now). Nice thing is though that you can buy a version of it that wires into the vehicle, so you can hide the cabling a bit better than the chargers we use now.
I'm going to try to get some pictures of my desktop mount today or tonight, but I think it's going to require some modification to make it work how I wanted it to.

nice concept, but it will not work on mine, since my CD player slot is hidden

how does it latches to the slot?
just using those 4 little wings to insert inside, i don't think those will hold.

I bought an Arkon SM428 on Amazon.com for my Vibrant, but works just as well for the NS I just got Vibrant got smashed in car door . Dirt cheap too. Don't let the screws in the picture scare you, only necessary if you don't have a flat enough surface for the doublestick foam tape, which holds tight. Easy to rotate 90 degrees when needed.

Here's some pictures I took.

2004 Mazda 3i.
The bottom part is removable, have to remove it to be able to plug in a charger, since it's very very close to the bracket. Mount holds the phone fine with the sides.
I'm not sure how I'm going to use the mount. Installed up or down, been trying both.
You can only swivel the mount updown/left/right just a little bit, so I'm sure in certain cars you won't get a great view of your phone.
The mount does shake a little bit while driving. Tightening the cd slot screw does not help.
Overall, I like it.

The CD slot one is great. Really good quality, plus I like it mounted there a lot better than on top of the dash or the windshield. I have been using it for a couple months now and I still love it.
Plus it is very easy to remove to put a CD in if you want to use a CD, then you can replace the phone holder and the CD will still play fine.
If you're willing to wait, dunno when, Kidigi is planning to release some car mounts. They look nice, but expensive as usual. About the same price as the HTC car mount for the Nexus One. Just google Kidigi and visit their online store.

Hello all,
I know, not another car mount thread.... Well here's the scoop, like a good boy I read through every other thread I could find and it seems like there really isn't a good car mount that can hold the Galaxy Note 2, nor are there any that have charging cables or stereo out cables.
Is this true or is there a mount that can truly hold the GN2 (even with a case?) that might have charging / audio out capabilities? I just am looking for something rock solid that at least holds the darn phone in place on my dash.
I know that there are 2 mounts - one out there by Samsung (and their distributor) as well as the Iottie (link below) but both have a lot of reviews claiming that the phone really doesn't fit and isn't held in well by the mounts.

Well, for suction cradle I went for the Exogear Exomount 2.
For stand-plug cradle I went for Capdase RacerMount.
Both hold my Note2 with case snugly.
I can even find interesting friction mounts for up to 7".
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app
i honestly love the iottie one, even with the folio flip cover from samsung. phone is held nice and snug, and the suction cup on it is none like I've ever seen. so god damn sticky that its like its 'glued' on but not. grips to any surface
I have the iottie and I think its awsome. The suction cup is amazing and will stick to pretty much anything, dash, console, wall of living room. Its impressive. Alittle 2 sticky when your trying to move it. It is also very flexable to the positoning that is available. It also will hold the device with any case or shell you can put on it. And the quick latch function is nice also... I highly recomend and like this mount
I have iOtttie as well. Yes, it's a real PITA get off the dash or windowshield. It's open enough that you have full access to all the ports. I've even recorded video with GN2 while in the dock.
Here's a crap video I shot with the GN2 in the iOttie dock:
you can see the section cup holder for the dock in the bottom right corner. The other upper left suction cup holds the satellite radio dock. Everyone wants to listen to NFL radio, LOL. Too bad I had the flash on, might have been able to see the van laying on it's side.
Does the Iottie allow for too much stress on the charging port?

Well, a little late to this thread but I just got the ProClip unit for the Note 2 that works with the Otterbox Defender case. This is the second ProClip unit I've had. The first being for the EVO 4G. The phone fits into the holder perfectly but you might have to wiggle it around to get it to sit right.
The unit that holds the phone without a case may fit easier.
The one thing with the unit for the EVO 4G was it didn't put it into car mode. I found the unit for the Note 2 also doesn't go into car mode but I have been reading where that might be a problem with phone itself.
Hi Fellas,
I'm looking for an "official" car mount which will fit the unit snugly for my international version D802.
The universal ones tend to have thick sponges at the sides and our devices have ultra thin bezel which gets covered
Any leads?

It's not an official car holder, it's a universal one. But I've been so impressed with it on all my phones, it's worth a shot. Fits the g2 nicely and doesn't cover the bezel. Great customer service too.
http://www.kenu.com/products/airframe
I'm also hoping for a car mount real quick, as I'm going on vacation in a week and a half, and barring any sudden change, will be using my LG G2 (come on, Tuesday...) to nav. Worse comes to worse, I'll get a universal one. For my GS II, I'm using one made for, I think, the Motorola Atrix. A couple of years ago, AT&T had this great deal where you buy the desktop dock for 16 bucks and get the car mount for a penny.
Would really be nice if they put the wireless charger in the car mount.. then no wires that you have to fool with hooking up once you put it in there...
Surely I can't be the only person that can think of these things..

Here's what I got. It works great and it doesn't cover the screen. The 2 grips don't bend in that much so it doesn't block the screen.

Thanks
Now the wireless car dock actually sounds useful. Too bad I have att: ( otherwise I don't see the big deal in putting your phone on a large pad that takes up space and has to be plugged in anyway. Now if they can build it into the arm of my couch or surface of my desk we got something good. Wireless furniture chargers.

I'm a little partial to the big, clunky mounts with beanbag bases, so this caught my eye. It's looks more like a general mount, even though the site mentions the G2 in the product title. Considering I really need one for vacation, I may go with this. http://www.shopandroid.com/arkon-we...ash-mount-and-slim-grip-holder/3A78A10703.htm
If anyone has any other ideas or found a more specific solution, I'm definitely listening.

Hi Fellas,
I'm looking for an "official" car mount which will fit the unit snugly for my international version D802.
The universal ones tend to have thick sponges at the sides and our devices have ultra thin bezel which gets covered
Any leads?

The G2 fits very nicely. You must press it firmly onto the USB connector (on right in picture) or you will get an error that says the phone cannot be charged.

I happen to find this particular one at my local tech mall:
http://shipi.com/easy-one-touch-car-mount-universal-car-mount-fits-most-smartphones.html
The claws are thin enough not to cover the screen and the one touch function is awesome. I just need to "drop" my device into the mount and it will clip itself as there's a button that will trigger the claws to snap. :good:
I went by a local VZ store yesterday to check if they had the official dock. They did not. However, I did find that the Samsung Universal Navigation Mount holds the phone quite nicely and still allows access to the USB & headphone jacks as well as the camera out above the mount. At $30 online, I think that's the way I'll go.

Now this looks interesting. Does the phone still slow charge? Have you tried it with GPS running or music running with the screen on? Does it drain faster than it charges?
Thank for any answers you can provide!
Does the back come off? Haven't gotten mine yet.
I'd like to use one of these, but don't want to stick anything on the outside of the case.

The charger is the QiStone+ , really cool portable wireless charger.
Interesting setup. Did it come with the mount or did you buy that separately?

Bought it separately, here's a link if you're interested.

So it holds both the qistone and the phone without any movement at all? Looks snug on both in your pictures. I have been trying to figure out what to put in my car and this looks to be perfect!

Yupp, it's been working fine for me, but I would recommend using a thin case or no case at all with the Turbo, because our QI chip kind of sucks compared to the other phones I have. It takes awhile to get them both in the position where it works but once I figured out what angle to keep the QiStone in, sliding the phone in is pretty quick now.
Thanks for the info. Just placed my order for the qistone+ and the dash kit! Freaking stoked!

Nice. I've added a couple shims to get everything fitting better. You'll probably have to adjust a bit too depending on what case you use. By the way, I just tried it without a case and it wouldn't line up properly. Just letting you know.
So my wife got me a solar power charging brick.works pretty good. I would that with the qistone would give you unlimited portable charging. Just a though.

I'm looking to put this setup in my car as well, how thick is the case you're using? I couldn't find any dimension specifications online. I'm rocking a puregear clear naked, wireless charging works fine through the case. I'm probably going to rock a Himbox HB01 bluetooth adapter so my setup is totally wireless.
Would you recommend a different mount than the i.Trek now that you've got it all wrapped up? Thanks for doing the hard part, Josh!

Thanks for the interest man. Honestly I would hold off until the AirDock 2.0 at this point. It's $85 at indiegogo, shipping in April. Really sleek QI magnet dock that has NFC built-in as well.
The setup I have here cost me roughly the same. The advantage of what I did is that the QiStone is a portable QI battery pack. It's useful for me because I have a Moto 360 as well. I was working off that when I made this setup, so if you're looking to use the QiStone than the design of the i.Trek is probably the only solution. I had to use a couple of shims i glued on for the Turbo to fit right.
I don't know if there's another dock with the same type of design as i.Trek, but I would check it out. What you want to look at is the grooves in the dock, where the devices will sit. If you can find one with closer grooves, get that. It's a little finnicky with the i.Trek if you don't do some DIY to get the charger and the phone close enough, especially considering it's getting bumped around.
The thinner the case the better I would think, but as long as it's thin enough to charge, you can customize the fit on the dock the way I did. The main problem with that is that the Turbo's Qi chip seems significantly weaker than other devices I've had. So you have to get it lined up perfectly with the QiStone.
I would take pics of it now but I don't have the Turbo anymore, switched to a N6.
Awesome! I had no idea there was an Air Dock 2.0 coming out, fortunately my i.Trek and Qistone+ haven't shipped yet so I went ahead and cancelled my orders.
Can't thank you enough for steering me toward that direction, I can't wait 'til April. I almost went the Nexus 6 route as well, but eventually flaked due to how inconvenient Verizon made it . Big is beautiful, and I bet you'll be looking forward to the Nexus 6 version whenever it drops.

Glad I saw your post in time. Between the N6 and the Turbo, I actually think the Turbo is the better phone. It's obviously a more manageable size, the battery lasts longer, the signal was great, and that screen is so goddamn sharp. Lollipop is buggy so I'm glad Verizon has held the Turbo to KitKat for the mean time. I just missed root, roms, and kernels too much so I had to make the switch.
I'm excited for that AirDock though, looks really sweet.
I would love to be able to mount the Airdock 2.0 onto my ProClip. Should be able to engineer a way
This has been a most illuminating thread! Thank you all for your input, I'm going to do some engineering myself now.....
I actually own the Air Dock 1.0, and it also has that combination of anti-slip/magnetic holders. I use it everyday. Holds just fine. I do use the phone without a case, so I can't speak of how it works with a case. I'd be concerned the magnets wouldn't grip unless you put a metal piece in-between the case and phone, then I don't know if it would mess up the QI charging capability.
I did back the AirDock 2.0. I wonder if they but stronger magnets in it. I know they improved the QI circuitry. I'm curious to see how much better it actually is.
