I bought 8G (Class 10) memory card. but i don't think my phone(x8) support it?
in all of tests, My phone shows has class 4. Is it correct?
did you buy the card from Ebay or is it from a reputable source? Eg are you sure the card is a genuine class 10?
Swyped from HTC Desire S using XDA Premium
I don't know, how can i understand it is original?
insert your card into cardreader and record big file, and check record speed.
Have a look at the sdcard.
The most of the sdcards have a little number in a circle on it, and that´s the class of the sdcard.
So, if you can find a "10" in a circle on your card, it´s class ten.
if you have another number in a circle on it, then it´s not class 10
It may be a hardware problem, but testing the speed on a pc would be taking you out from the doubt.
I'm using a class 10 8gb Kingston microSD. No problem at all.
However, I experienced heavy writing problems with class 4 8gb Kingston. This was the reason why I had to resell this card, only to check with my own eyes the problem was on the x8 and not in the class 4 microSD.
I tested my 8G-Class 10 microSD with Ram Reader,
File: 699 Mb
write: 90 s ----- 7.8 Mb/s
Read: 65 s ----- 10.75 Mb/s
File: 398 Mb
write: 50 s ---- 8 Mb/s
Read: 20 s ---- 19.9 Mb/s
How do you think a bout my class of microSD?
Its class 8

kingstone products have a lot of compatibility problems, i know they're popular but they suck.
I'm using an SDHC A-Data 8 Gb class 10 and works great.

Those results mean nothing, there are lots of things that can influenciate speed. Also, the cards' speed is tested on factory with a special machine, not a computer, so real world speeds are always a bit slower. If the card was a fake i think it would be getting far worst performance.
Test it on a desktop pc (rear ports) using a decent card reader.

I have a kingmax class 10 8GB.
In pc, i can reach around 14.x mb/s.
In phone, fastest is 8mb/s, but in average 6mb/s+.

Friends
At last, I tested my microSD (class 10) in Galaxy S I9003 with "SD Tools v2.1" & "SD Card speed test v1.9" applications, They show that the class of my microSD is 10, then tested again in x8 and show class4 or class6.
conclusion: Our x8 can't support class 10. it support class up to 6.
It's true that the sd card interface of the X8 can have a limit below class 10, but remember that there are always factors that can limit the speed.. Partition type, allocation unit size, ROM, kernel.. But yeah, i won't be surprised if it had a limit of roughly 6MB/s..and it's not that bad
Class 10 is very smooth for ungaze...
I test my 16GB V-Gen class 10 memory card with sd tools and the result:
read speed : 14,4 mbps
write speed : 8,2 mbps
i use 32k allocation unit size when formatting through computer,,
i have 8GB AData class 10 and work fast and smooth
Read 20 mb/s
Write 12 mb/s and some time more
can someone confirm if X8/W8 can benefit class 10? cause I have here class 6 offered by a friend for a very cheap price cause it is second hand

Hello Every Body,
Can any body please confirm if the class 10 32 gb memory cards such as Kingston or A-Data are compatible with HTC HD7.
I read here before in XDA that only the class 2 cards from Scandisk are only the one that are compatible with the windows phone 7 devises.
But in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10354934
dorianmuthig says that class 4 cards are compatible also.
So my Questions are:
1- Are Kingston or A-Data or other brands are compatible with the HD7 (because I already have 32 gb class 10 A-Data memory card)?
2- Are class 4 or above classes are compatible also?
Thanks in advance and I appreciate if any body can clear these inquiries for all to be benefited.
There is no such thing as a class 10. and as i have read at multiple places only class 2 sandisk cards have been confirmed working. everything else doesnt work this means class4 etc...

Thanks nuclear for replay,
for your information there is a class 10 32 gb memory card
I hope that some body who tries higher classes than class 2 tells us his experiment
Apparently there is class 10 (16 and 32gb) cards available. http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=class+10+32+gb+microsd But, from what has been discussed class 2 are the only ones that have been confirmed to work properly (not decreasing boot times and app launching times). So, I would be cautioned to buy one until there is more definitive information as they have to be pretty expensive.

Oops, my bad. Mis-stated that one. Class 2 is all that's confirmed. For some reason i was thinking the tutorial to change it to 32 gb was using a class 4. Slap me
It seems that we should wait for some time to be sure
And if any body try other classes higher than class 2, please inform us withj the results
It may work, however since Kingston and A-Data use Sandisk or Samsung manufactured cards with a secure digital storage controller optimized for fast sequential read and write, small file access may actually be slower than in a comparable Class 2 card. Those fast cards are made for video recording and high resolution photography which isn't what Windows Phone 7 OS needs. You need to look at 4K random read, 512K random read/write and sequential write.
Get either a Sandisk SDSDQM-032G-B35 (definitely works) or SDSDQM-032G-J35A (current manufacturing cycle, promises faster speeds and lower power consumption, still rare)
kingston class 4 = does NOT work.
sandisk class 2 = works (same speeds as the kingston though!)
thats as far as i tested.

SanDisk class 4 has just been released and is available on Amazon for $100. I am getting a class 2 which is tested and confirmed working. The class 4 if it works should be much faster.
Sandisk SDSDQM-032G-B35 was not working properly on my HD7. Slow, freezing, crashing, and sometimes not detected card. All kinds of bad behavior. The original 16 GB card was sent back into the phone, now every thing works OK.
I have found 16GB CLASS 6 strontium brand which cost around 26USD. You think 16GB class 10 is a big difference for class 6?16GB Class 10 is still not available now in my area. What do you think? Planning to use it on link2sd/app2sd to focus all my apps on SD
Both are fast but class 10 is faster.

I use a transcend 8Gb class 6 SDcard. ofcourse, apps2sd is already included with most Custom ROMs (you do NOT need to move apps to the SD card, a partition,ext3/4, is used as apps and data storage and is treated as internal). Use Link2SD only on the stock ROM.
What i mean is that class 6 enough for day to day operation oe gaminf ie better buy class10?

Class indicates minimum data rate.
6 = 6MB/s
10= 10MB/s
So it is almost 2x faster
Some of "pro" class 10 have speed over 20MB/s
This isn't a huge difference for using app2sd. You can search in web a test of both sdcards. If the price difference is so big, buy the class 6 one.

Guys will our beloved W8/X8 benefit the class 10 speed or it is only for card reader? I mean in terms of gaming. Does class 10 outshines class 6? cause right now Im using a class 2 stock 4GB microsDHC with the write speed of 4.9 MB/s and a read speed of 11.3 MB/s on SD Card tools
You only need a class 10 card if you will be doing 720p video recordings. Since our cellphone can't record in 720p, it is not worth it. If you plan on upgrading your phone soon, then you'd better wait.
i have AData 8GB class 10 card and i pay for it 15$ dollars and worth that money because is very fast and good..
I have AData 16 Gb Class 10 for 28$ and its great =) fast card for good prize.
Class 10 is faster a lot compare with class 6. Because I am always copy files from Office to my laptop everyday, i feel the difference.faster 1.5-3x.
But, our x8 is only run about class 6 speed. So class 10 used on a x8, the speed is only faster about 5-10%.
If you ask my comment, i will still recommend you to buy the class 10,because: it is faster, and the price is not a big difference. maybe few dollars. you still can use the memory card on future phone.
Hmm I had bought a RiData 16GB Microsdhc class 10 worth around 35USD. But when I test with sd tools in market I can get only 9 and if lucky 10.1 most of the time 8.9
Class 10 cards suck at reading a lot of small files (gaming).
but is that normal for class 10? my stock class 2 can go over 3

that is normal for our x8. my stock class 2 was able to run at around 4mb.
my current kingmax 8gb class 10 able to run at 7-8mb
in pc, that is 14-16mb.
I really want to share with you guys this, before i bouth this card: Kingston SDC10/8GB i had an HP 8gb class 4,but the diference between the two is noticeble.Files are copyed very fast...i'm not saying that the HP was c*ap,it was good but the way i acces now my music, videos and copy new content its really a joy...even the androidOS scanes the card faster at boot.
I may say that the Kingston is twice as fast... and the card itself cost me 49lei with taxes (thats about 14$ US).
Do you guys know a benchmark tool?
BENCKMARKS
Kingston SDC10/8GB: read- 21.78mb/s
******************write- 9.0mb/s
HP SDC4/8GB: read- 12.34mb/s
************write- 5.1mb/s
the results from SD Tools app
use antutu bencmark it can do bencmark forsd card read, write speed
The speed increase has to do with the class of the card. Class 10 is way much faster than class 4.
I'm on my way to buy a class 10 Kingston SD too.
of course. class 10 has minimum speed of 10 Mbps while class 4 only have minimum speed of 4 Mbps...
any class 10 microSD will be faster than that HP, or whichever class 4 microSD.
im using transcend class10 n the best read only 16,7mb/s
how are Samsung's Class6 , 8 gb cards i have ordered one for me
and guys do i need to root my phone to run those benchmark tools

Not using a2sd or anything like that.
higher class = higher write/read speed
plus,if you like customize your rom, it's better if you have a >=6 class sd card
class 10 please , i have samsung 8gb class 10 and it`s not a big difference in price between 6 and 10

No. Higher class = higher minimum write/read speed.
You can try get a legendary Class 10 Micro SD with more than 8GB
Belive me, it will be your best upgrade purchase for the OB
Actually I have a Micro SD Adata Class 10 16GB. On my daily usage, I noticed better performance from games that requiere SD data storage and better speed for tranfer files via usb. On my experience, 1GB in 1:30min!!! Well that's when i'm transfer a unique .rar file, if you try with a folder of same size it takes a little more time
Another thing, if you're a gamer, trust me... you must get a 16Gb micro SD at least, because the heavy graphics games (like newest Gameloft Games) have very heavy quantity of data. Only with the downloadable data of Nova2, Asphalth 6, MC3, Street Fighter IV, FIFA12 and Real Racing2 you fill a MicroSD 8GB!!! D: but they are very good games ;D
Well, I hope this info will help you and if I was on your shoes... I hurt you!!! XD jajaja just kindding but seriously think about grab a better SD class with more than 8Gb ok... well you have the better choice. Regards from Mexico
PD. Sorry about my bad English T-T
defintely use higher class (min. class 6)... you will gain a benefit when loading/copying large amount of data. agree with above.
Class - Speed
2 - 2 MB/s
4 - 4 MB/s
6 - 6 MB/s
10- 10 MB/s

Those are the minimum speeds, the class doesn't say anything about maximum speeds. It is possible for a lower class card to reach higher speeds than a higher class card. It should not be possible for a card of a given class to go slower than the class minimum.
I had the common lag in camera recording...when I changed to samsung 32GB class 10 all went fine , that was still in froyo. I got it for only 27€ in an spanish online shop called "pccomponentes".
Great deal..3 months so far and all running well.
The Classes are the speed to write on SD, If You have a class 4 is better than 2, but maybe is more expensive.

It's a good dilema, space vs speed. As others have said if you are a gamer go for speed. If you just have music a pictures on your SD and are patient then go for size.
I got a 8GB with 10class and my phone "fly".
kingmax - price 10€
Yeah, I suggest too to choose a class 10 if you are a gamer, a lower class if you're not.
But I don't suggest you to use a SD wich is less than class 4. Class 4 for in my opinion is the lower class to consider, others are too slow even for photos. Your device may suffer of this (be very slow)

The general consensus is that Class 10 is great for what it's intended for: transferring or saving LARGE media files (recording videos or taking high-resolution digital photos).
The lower classes seem to perform better with smaller file transfers.
I have a Class 4 Sandisk 8MB card in my P970, and I'm very happy with the performance. I doubt I'd see a performance increase moving to Class 10.

Here's an interesting link comparing different classes:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1150369
I have read that manufacturers have recently improved random read/write speeds on class 10 cards. Dunno. Biggest thing I see is that brand almost matters as much as class. I'd stick with Sandisk.
Enjoy, and good luck.
