[Q] droid 3 brick - Motorola Droid 3

I have a droid 3, I made the root, and delete some applications and then now every time I turn it on, it restarts and keeps restarting, help please
anyone know if can be repaired with a stock rom, with recovery?
please explain to me step by step well, I'm new at this

Have you tried the steps from this thread?

im stuck
yeah..im stuck until update.zip from ota's is uploaded or sbf. so.....D:

An update.zip will require everything in system to be untouched or it too will fail.
We need an SBF. There appears to be a new signing method for the protected partitions that causes even the signed partitions pulled from the phone to softbrick if you flash them back to the device with fastboot.

I'm in a similar situation ...because I'm dumb. I can't receive txts, or even make an emergency call.
Anybody know what is the cost for repair? I recognize that it will not be under warranty, and I may need to pay a penalty besides - which is completely sad, because in my dumbness I made a complete tar backup of the system and know what needs to be restored to fix it. It would take less than five minutes if I had access to the system. It is entirely the bootloader and inability to access the file system that is stopping me from fixing it.
Except, in my panic, adrenalin, and stupidity, after having broken it I then proceeded to factory reset. It's now trying to activate, and failing. I cannot get into AB Load mode, because debugging is now turned off.
Sad thing is, with the radio fix to let hotspots work - which worked beautifully - I had little reason other than bloat removal to root it at all.

You can bypass the activation screen by tapping the upper left, upper right, lower left, then lower right corners. Then you can re-enable USB debugging mode.

I don't know if I'm not hitting the magic spots or what, but this isn't working. No error, just no response
Note, I do get an error hitting the android to start activation. "com.motorola.setupwizard.controller has stopped". Same error on emergency call.

Progress!
I'm now in a sort of mini setup. However, it still fails at a location services consent checkbox list (with com.motorola.setup)
This mini-setup was able to setup wifi and a google account, and I can read google email (when it comes in and notifies me) and from there click a URL and go to the browser. I can access the setup of each of those programs as well. But I can go from there to a general settings list, and hitting "Home" returns to the location services consent checkbox, which fails and doesn't progress.
Thanks for the help though, even if I don't succeed....

More progress....
From the web I'm able to load up market and install adw launcher. From there I should be able to get into settings....and we have joy!
Thanks a million... I'll report back which packages I moved which weren't on the now generating safe list

STUCK on Android is Updating" Starting Apps Swirl"

Okay, so now we have 3 Atrix HD's in the house and except for the unremoveable battery thing, and the short "battery life" when actively using it, I'd say we pretty much love them. However, I decided to remove some apps, etc. and managed to get my messages, camera and gallery to the "not working" and basically non-existent point. Now on startup I'm getting the Android is Updating message with the never-ending swirl of Starting Apps... I'm positive I've waited long enough as I set it down and went back to bed just to wake up and still see it.
Info - phone IS rooted
running the "jellybean" update
Unfortuanately a couple weeks ago, I UNCHECKED the sync photots for both facebook and gmail, so there are pictures I really don't want to lose.....
I'm definitely not a "pro" like lots of them up here, but am capable of following directions. I'm pretty sure I have to "unroot" my phone via USB/SD card through my laptop....Any help would be greatly appreciated... and the more specific the directions the better!! :cyclops: LOL... Thanks so much.

Okay, here's where we're at.... it is no longer frozen on that screen and goes thru the setup w/ my gmail, etc.... but then I have a black screen (except for the top row icons...). I can pull down the settings menu and see everything there, but I have no "homescreen"....It's black. It seems like we're in the right direction and I know it's not dead. Anything??
Also wanted to thank you for the help. This place is ALWAYS amazing....
Hey, my son and I are wondering since it's already running 4.1.1 and we can't downgrade, what about flashing a custom rom? Will that flash a totally complete, full home page and everything?? Just a thought.
While trying to search for answers I came across a "xoom forums??" post with a tablet that was doing exactly the same thing....multiple people had that problem, but doesn't seem to have been answered...... not sure if I'm suppose to post links to that or not, but at least I know I'm not alone.....
If you're rooted, than I'm assuming ADB debugging is on. You should be able to unlock your boot loader and load CWM recovery. From there you can wipe cache and dalvik cache. If that doesn't help, you can reflash a stock ROM zip from Skeevys thread. Flashing a zip won't touch your SD card
There is official 4.1.1 available...you can try flashing that...you dont need to downgrade.
Okay, my son installed safetystrap (whatever that is...lol) and when you click Operating system, it says "there is no operating system installed are you sure you want to reboot????
Is this fixable?
Note: We have two other identical Atrix HD's in the house if that helps for any reason.....
Well that's what we are trying to figure out is how to install OS...Lol..
Try install system using fastboot... Look for skeevedudes guide...its in this forum somewhere...

LOL....okay, so do yoiu see why my son says I'm not "ALLOWED" to have a rooted phone if this happens again..... Guess I was just glad to SEE it written out, so that it's a little more def what's going on - but I'm sure everyone up here (except me) already knew that!!!
He's not around today, so my phone is just "sitting" saying "creating rom slot" but never gets off that screen. The good thing is that we can see it's actually charging and we weren't sure before....... Does this sound like something that will eventually be repairable??
You have a soft brick...yes it is fixable...
Okay, thought I had already posted this before but I guess I never hit the submit ....
Before safety strap was installed, we could get the phone (minus the homescreen and os) to come on....the settings, wifi etc.....No we can't seem to get to that point with the safetystrap on. It just goes completely blank and won't let safestrap connect to the computer via usb.
Apparently there is also no way to remove SS without an opperating system. This doesn't sound promising.....ugggg..... I so want my phone back.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
OK dude. Follow my instructions.
Hold down power and both volume buttons all at once until the phone screen turns black, then continue holding the volume buttons. You will get a menu. Go to AP fastboot mode using the volume down button, select it with the volume up button. Plug your phone into your computer with a data cable. Download RSD lite and the MOTOROLA drivers from the MOTOROLA website. Install both. Download the 4.1.1 sbf file for your phone, there is a thread for it here in the AHD forum. Its a zip file, extract it to your desktop. Open RSD lite, click the browse for file button, select the XML file inside the folder you just unzipped. Hit flash. If you get any errors, let me know I'll send you a different XML file with the getvar lines removed.
Okay, will get it started..... Thanks so much. My son has been working on this for hours and hours. You have no idea how much I appreciate this place and everyone who helps out!! You guys rock! Will let you know what we get.

HTC one (sprint) accidentally flashed a 4.2.2 rom

So I have screwed up pretty bad and now tried fixing the problem myself before asking for help.
Earlier I flashed Android Revolution HD 12.3 to finally realize that I didnt work with sprint, however I forgot to make a back-up for my phone. I have tried using adb sideload to install viper's rom v1.1.0 via TWRP. After the flash is complete and I click reboot, I get an error saying "No OS installed! Are you sure you want to reboot?"
If I swipe to reboot, I end up with a black screen with a toolbar at the top. I am totally lost and have been searching to forums for hours on end. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: I have been able to get viperROM to boot to the startup screen, however with a minute or so I get an error which states "Precess system is not responding, would you like to close it?" Then my phone restarts to the black screen.
You messed up your partitions by flashing that rom. From bootloader select factory reset to get your partitions back and then sideload your sprint rom and you should be set.
Or this method will work too.

I tried the first method and didnt have any luck. I did notice that when looking through the install folder, the .zips are no longer listed. However, when the phone turns on for a few seconds and I am able to open files through my PC, they are listed there.
Second method got me to the startup screen. As I attempted to connect to wifi, I had no phone service and also there was an error connecting to wifi due to "temporarily avoiding poor connection". Then the phone instantly restarted back to a black screen.

You're lucky the partitions aren't aligned in a way that your hboot was overwritten. Otherwise you'd have a brick instead of a phone.

I know, I really lucked out. Took a solid 14+ hours of research and trial and error to figure out how to fix it. I had rooted my old evo 4G a few times thinking I still knew what I was doing, but that was a while ago. I should have definitely took some extra time to do some more research before I flashed.
This is why i don't flash roms from another section even though some have sprint version i just don't trust them

I flashed viper's sprint version of his ROM and havent been receiving text messages or phone calls. I think its time to just give up on keeping my phone rooted. I havent had any favorable results yet.
So I ran a RUU to get everything back to stock as described above, however I am no longer receiving text messages or phone calls. I can send them though. Would anyone know why?

It will not unfreeze them. You will need to factory reset.

Okay, thanks. Factory reset is what got me in this in the first place. (Well, not the first place, but it's what I can't get out of!) is not changing anything. I still can't get any further in setup than one screen past wifi (it just continues to check whatever it is it's checking. It's not frozen and it doesn't loop, it just doesn't move on. Pressing next/skip produces a sound/feedback but doesn't move on) Oh well, it was worth a try.

If you're rooted, factory reset will not work. You will need the KDZ file to wipe your phone, which is currently in the works.
If you actually got it to boot, then you're fine. That "activating" screen sometimes takes several minutes. Just be patient.

Peeptastic said:
Thank you for helping. I don't actually make it to an activating screen. I just get one step past wifi (if I keep wifi on it gets caught in updating system. If I turn wifi off it gets caught in just a sec). It will "load" (lack of better term) for 1-3 hours. I did discover that I can receive phone calls while stuck in the screen. And I can hear when I get a text message, although I can't check it. But that makes sense if I can't factory reset a rooted phone....

Try removing battery and trying to boot again. If your phone was rooted, that''s possibly your problem.

Yep! Sprint connections optimizer popped up. I was able to hit a link from there and access chrome. I wasn't signed in to wifi though. Also, whenever something closes, the screen goes back to setup. I don't have access to the task bar or the soft keys (besides back). Someone else on the forum had a similar problem and looks like it was solved with kdz. So there is hope.

I think I may be seeing something related to what you're seeing (though I'm not starting over from a Factory Reset). Ever since taking the root flash, my wifi isn't connecting to my home router anymore.
I was just about ready to do a Factory Reset to see if that fixed it, but now it doesn't look like that'll help.

During the initial setup after factory reset, when you get to the wifi setup screen can you just skip over the wifi setup? Is it possible your wifi isn't working (mine isn't either) and as long as you keep attempting to connect you'll never get past that step in the initial setup process?
i need zv4 rooted system file, i'll root the phone using the zv4 file and will do OTA , thn will get the update.zip for ZV5.
if any one have zv4 rooted system file pl share.

[FIXED] Baffled about shutdown

I have a Sunshine unlocked Turbo that has recently began randomly shutting down. I have tried a few roms to see if there was any difference, but couldn't get anything to work. I also tried installing a stock, unmodified rom to no avail (kept getting an error on the install). I could get CM12.1 installed the best, but after a couple of minutes it would shut down again. I tried wiping everything off the phone through TWRP (system, cache, dalvik, and internal storage) to no avail. I was able to get it to run longer on CM without GAPPS, about 10 minutes or so before the shutdown. Any ideas?
EDIT:
Not sure what the exact issue was, but I downloaded the Droid Turbo OEM from HERE. Waited 8 hours to download (original links don't work anymore and the mirror is stupid and charges for a fast download), unzipped the file, then ran the VRZ_XT1254_SU4TL-44_44_CFC.bat and it booted right up and has been working fine. I then simply installed TWRP, flashed SuperSU, then edited the build.prop to get hotspot working.

When it shuts down, does it immediately power off, or do you see the "shutting down" message?
If I were you, I would try using the Verizon Upgrade Assistant to repair the phone. It won't affect your unlocked bootloader, and it will ensure that all the software on your phone is stock.

It's a long shot, but you might want to try a battery calibration app. You phone could be reading 13-17% when it's actually at 0%. I think it's more likely that it's some sort of hardware issue, though.

Honestly, I have no idea.
I agree yes try recalibrating the battery. Or do a clean flash. It should recalibrate the battery when you do this.
The calibration is simply a file based on battery reads.

I'll try the VUA tomorrow and see how that goes. Hopefully a fresh, OEM install will fix the issue so I can get CM12 installed.

Hmm. That sounds like a hardware issue to me, but you'll find out once you run the upgrade assistant.
I had a problem once where the phone seemed like it was powering off, but it was actually just never waking up when the screen went dark. Reflashing all images didn't help. I ended up sending it in to Motorola for a warranty replacement, which was a surprisingly easy process.
My phone likes to shut down around 1-8% without warning, but it does say Powering down as it does it. It's kind of annoying, but I'm sure that's not similar to what you're experiencing.

If you have a Nexus 5X, I'm assuming you know how to use fastboot.
1. Download this: http://www.rootjunkysdl.com/getdown...o/Firmware/VRZ_XT1254_SU4TL-44_44_CFC.xml.zip
2. Extract it somewhere.
3. Right click on the .bat file and select edit.

5. Boot into bootloader mode and connect to PC.
6. Use the commands listed in the Quark section to flash the images.

If you have a Nexus 5X, I'm assuming you know how to use fastboot.
1. Download this: http://www.rootjunkysdl.com/getdown...o/Firmware/VRZ_XT1254_SU4TL-44_44_CFC.xml.zip

If I just double click the .bat it automatically flashes everything. Is that the wrong way? There's no "entry for Quark" in the .bat.
It worked for about 48 hours this time before it did another shutdown.

Sorry, I missed a step. Yes, double clicking on the .bat file should work fine. I got confused. If doing that didn't fix it, you might want to think about getting a warranty replacement if possible, or a new phone. Motorola has an option where you pay $25 and they ship you a new phone without inspecting the old one. It even comes in the original packaging, which makes me suspect that it's actually new, not refurbished. This is the option I chose when I replaced the phone that I had modified with Moforoot. The process went smoothly despite my "modified" system status.

I'll have to try that. I dropped my VZW insurance when I got the N5X since Nexus Protect is better and cheaper than VZW. Do I just go through Motorola's site for it?

Here you go: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/mcp/service/session/
Click on "request a repair" and follow the prompts. You won't even have to interact with a person.
One caveat though: I read recently that someone tried to do this and they tried to give him a Droid Turbo 2 as a replacement. I'm not saying that will happen, but it's something to be aware of.

Thanks for this! It was covered and I can get it done for free since I don't need my Turbo.

I avoided the free option since I got the impression that they inspect your phone first to ensure that nothing is wrong with it that would make its warranty void. Like, say, an unlocked bootloader. But it could be that they just check for physical damage. I dunno. Good luck!

The free option said they look for physical damage first then go on to the repair.

Galaxy Tab s2 boot loop

I have done this http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-s2/development/root-cf-autoroot-tab-s2-sm-t3187202 to root my device it all passes and after restart it will not stop looping, Help please?
are you able to get into download mode by holding power + down volume + home button for 10 seconds or until it goes into the mode? If so you can easily use SmartSwitch to reinitialize the firmware, it will download and flash it. http://www.samsung.com/us/smart-switch/
You will need to install Smart Switch and hit emergency software recovery and initialization under the more button in the top right. Your device will likely not be shown in it's current state so you will need to type your specific model number (example "SM-T710") without quotes, you will be asked for your serial number as well, so get the number from the sticker that was on your tablet or the tablet box/product packaging.
You WILL need an internet connection, the program should provide any steps and has a built in guide should anything not be clear in this post. Please be aware that if you did not make a backup you will lose your data. I am not experienced enough to know if there is another way around this but at this point and time I doubt it.
Smart Switch is a fantastic app, it recovered my device when EVERYTHING was destroyed save for the download mode.
Let us know if it works for you!
Nice, mine is the smt810 and I'll do this once I get home in a few hours and let you know how it goes . Thanks
It clearly states you need to flash the permissive kernel before rooting or you will boot loop.
Ok thanks wirelesskebab it worked and ashyx how do you flash it and will it even work? i dont want to brick a 400$ tab lol
Seems I am also in in similar boat. I was going back to stock and the cable became loose and I have a bad flash. I can access download mode but have lost TWRP and root. Problem is odin fails to flash original firmware and smart switch for pc seems to hang at 0% after downloading software. Is there any way to force odin?

How long did you leave smart switch to attempt an initialization? 30 minutes? You may try using smart switch on another computer and giving it a go. Another thing you might try is if the cable is damaged swapping it out.
I can't really say beyond that. I will say that Kies and Smart Switch froze on my PC and I ended up moving to another desktop to get the job done and uninstalling/reinstalling. Make sure to copy your backups though as uninstalling removes them too.
If you are still experiencing issues then unfortunately it is beyond my limited experience. Hope this helps.

I think that it's better to install TWRP and from inside TWRP click install and load the latest SuperSU from a directory before hand from www.chainfire.eu. That's how I root my tablet. I was using permissive kernel and auto-root but it's not necissary. I can't speak for any benefit or lack thereof.

Of course it will work, but it's for 5.1.1 and 6.0 devices.
Just read the related thread.
Although I can't understand why you boot looped on 5.0.2 as it doesn't require a modification to the boot.img.
As suggested I advise you root with supersu 2.65 via twrp.
