[Q] Custom Roms about GT-P1010 (Wi-Fi only model) - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am newbie on GT-P1010 (Wi-Fi only model) and I want to use custom roms. I rooted it with z4root. Are there any custom roms for GT-P1010? Is there any risk to do it?
I don't know whether Samsung will release Gingerbread update for GT-P1010. However, it has 1GHz and it eligables for Honeycomb I think!

Up!

Id suggest reading the development notes on some of the roms and maybe pm the dev. As with any flashing or modding there is the risk of bricking your device so make sure you read everything and follow it to the t. Good luck and safe modding

[Q] Best root procedure for Sprint 7" EF17 ??

This GT 7" (Sprint flavor) isn't on Sprint and won't be - just WiFi. I have a rooted HTC Incredible with Skyraider ROM and like it a lot, and would like to achieve the same flexibility on the tablet.
2.3.4
EF.17
What is the safest and surest root procedure for this tablet? And then, what ROMs seem to provide the most stability and flexibility?
THANKS!
Flash the rooted GB update in the Sprint Owners Thread.

follow the info the gsu_golfer linked to, and you'll have a working rooted stock rom. No custom roms or kernels available for the Sprint Tab just yet, hopefully we'll see some in the next couple days. (Look in the Dev section for Better than Life future Echos.. should be available soon)
Way its the benefit of the rooms over just rooting the device? Can these be used if on 3g as well as wifi?

[Q] Note on GB.. ICS Rom etc

HI guys,
First of all great to be part of this community. This is my first Android phone after being an IOS user since the original iphone. I just like change so decided to jump on the android wagon. i gotta say so far i love it i have HC on the 7plus tab and my note is on GB 2.3.6 xxla4a and i think its a saudi phone n700jpla1 kernel. Now here's the deal the note is new i didnt change anything so not rooted its unloccked though, now i want to install stock ics or the galaxy sIII rom.
Before you start bashing, i read a lot but it is so confusing i don't wanna mess up the phone. I just want the easiest way to flash stock stable ics build and root it. the IOS was very limited you only had to jailbreak and there was a site with all tutorials to do it. With android there are so many possibilities from what i read (custom roms and dif kernels) yet it's not all in one place.
So to sum it up if a kind soul can help me out i'll be very grateful.
Thanks
Please note thing first - You cannot flash a Galaxy SIII Rom on to the Note. You cannot flash ROMs of any other devices on the Galaxy Note. (You can try but that kind of an exercise would brick your phone instantly). Different phones have different ROM structures which are not interchangeable. In fact you have to ensure that you only flash ROMs for your particular model which is GT-N7000.
and if you want stock ICS better to wait for stable version
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646088
The first post should help you get clarity on how to install ICS (specifically the LPY version) and root it.
BTW it would be advisable to stay with GB for now. There is a bug with the all ICS versions so far that might cause a fully bricked phone. Read about it in the stickied posts in the development section.
Thanks for the replies you just confirmed what i was afraid. i'll just stick to GB for now until the update rolls out on my phone evetnough i'm not sure i will get one soon. lastly i'm getting the s3 when it comes out.Going all in with Samsung

A few questions.

So today my little bro asked me to root his Note and flash CM9 on it, but I came to a halt when I found out his current firmware with which the phone was delivered is on the "not directly rootable" list, which I take it can only be rooted by flashing an older firmware?
The kernel seems to be the N7000XXLC1 while the phone is N7000XXLB2. It came delivered with a Telia (Swedish carrier) ROM.
Is there some other way to root this phone other than switching to an older firmware? Some exploit or something? I'd hate to accidentally brick his phone considering it's but a few days old. The way of helping him would be:
1. Install CWM
2. Root and/or install custom ROM
Does the N7000 have some sort of bootloader to unlock, or a fastboot mode? Is it easy to accidentally brick it? I mean a deeper brick than just a system brick? You'd have eternal gratitude if you could pinpoint me to an easy way of doing this or if you could compose an easy guide. Duly note I have checked the two guides here but the first one is a root option for ICS firmwares and the other one involves flashing an older firmware with ODIN, one thing I don't actually wanna do, just yet.
I myself use a Galaxy Nexus so things work out completely different on the two with the Nexus being more of a developer's phone. My bro hates Gingerbread by now and the lame Touchwiz UI.
Go to development subforum and read dr ketans guide.
The safest is to revert back to older roms and root if you need it. Avoid cwm in ICS if you can.
Read, read, and read some more.

I just want to get him CM9 in the easiest way possible. Why do you say I should avoid cwm in ICS?
There are many issues with bricking in ics kernels by doing factory restores or large data transfers.
To the best of my knowledge though, cm9 kernels are safe, as well as paranoid Android and a couple of others. There's a great thread about the dangers of ics somewhere.

Well his phone is currently running gingerbread and it looks like I'm gonna have to flash back to a rootable firmware. I managed to find a very easy to-do guide in my own language so now I think I'll manage it.
I'll install CM9 on his Note since I know he likes CM9 and the Cyanogenmod team is highly reliable. I'm not saying the other aren't, I'm merely saying that the ROMs by CM have always worked in some way.

[Q] <query> maximing samsung galaxy note

Hello.. I am just new here in xda.. I just bought my note 4 months ago and I think I am not maximing its potentials..My phone is already rooted.
I just want to ask your opinions on how can I make my phone cool/useful?
What rom are you on? Personally I believe the note should be more tablet like which is why I like cm based roms especially paranoid android 2.50. Gives you the option to have different display modes per app.
I also prefer a vanilla feel that helps with battery as all bloatware is removed.
This is impossible to advise really without knowing what you use the note for.

Flash 4.1.2 rom
You will feel like you have a note 2
Customising the Galaxy Note GT-N7000
It really depends what you mean by cool.........
Super fast - using kernels optimised for performance such as HydraCore
Bleeding edge Jelly Bean ROMs such as Paranoid Android
Rock solid TouchWiz ROMs such as Rocket ROM ICS and now JellyBean (based on recent leaked Samsung ROMs)
EyeCandy-tastic ROMs such as RocketMIUI
Pay attention to what these different ROMs don't do when you are considering which to flash and play with.
E.G. a lot of the stripped down ROMs and those based on CyanoGenMod don't have the Samsung productivity apps.
So if you love S-Memo, S-Note, S-Voice, look at the TouchWiz ROMs.
There are alternatives to all the Samsung productivity apps in the Google Play Store, if you find the ROM you want to stick with doesn't have them.
You are rooted, so you just need to get to grip with some of the basics of flashing ROMs..
Sujal has a great thread to take you through the whole process from out of the box to custom ROM and custom Kernel.
Chasmodo has a great thread which will help you understand what kernels are safe on the Note.
It is advisable to make a Nandroid backup of your current build through CWM before you start playing with different ROMs.
Then you can restore your working build through CWM if anything goes pear shaped.
The cool thing is that once you have got to grips with flashing and understand safe kernels, then you can flash as many different ROMs as you like until you find the one that suits you.
NOTE: Custom ROMs do not update OTA (Over The Air), through Kies or any other official update mechanism. You need to keep an eye on the thread for the custom ROM you are using and flash the updates from the thread.
Just in case you ever lose root (it does happen):
The best up to date guide for rooting is Dr. Ketan's Rooting Guide. (in my opinion)
Dr. Ketan really knows his stuff and will be happy to answer questions when he is around.
Phil3759 has another great rooting guide which may also help, and has potentially simpler methods for rooting.
You will need to pay attention to the N7000 specific elements of this thread to avoid any unintentional bricking.

Rooting Mini GT S5570 running GB 2.3.6. & misc

Would be really grateful for a few answers here, I'm looking to root a Galaxy Mini GT-S5570 (not the S5570i 'plus' version) for a friend that's running GB 2.3.6 and was wondering about the best & quickest way to do it. (Doomlord's Zergrush V4 maybe?) My own phone's a Sony Xperia Ray so there's a few differences I have to get my head around!
I've got a handful of questions so I might as well just ask them one by one:-
Can one flash custom ROMS on the Samsung Mini without having to unlock the bootloader? And how well does ICS run on this phone? Would you recommend upgrading or leaving it with GB 2.3.6?
Where can I find a version of CWM for GB 2.3.6?
Is there a PC Companion type of application for Samsung where you can upgrade or repair the firmware? Might you have a link to it? Just in case things go badly wrong, fingers crossed they won't.
Lastly, (seeing as I'm a noob to all things Samsung) are there any ROMS or mods for the Mini that you'd recommend?
Thanks Samsung peeps!
Hi, try this tutorial, its pretty straightforward
stoneboytony.blogspot.com

Well this wont be too hard
1) To root, use this guide - http://yagyagaire.blogspot.in/2011/12/rooting-samsung-galaxy-pop-with.html#.UaHzBNJ0xUk
Btw dont worry about superuser being outdated ans such; you can update it through the app itself
2) For CWM, either you use 5 or 6. I'm using 5 and have had 0 problems so far, but you could try both. Links:
cwm 5 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439751
cwm 6 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2156194
3) As for the bootloader and stuff, you need not worry, i havent unlocked anything and have had no problems yet.
4) In case things do go badly flash stock firrmware to bring to stock condition.

5) ICS as well as JB upto 4.2.2 work well on mini; to check out some ROMs visit android development section.
Here are some ROMs

For others see first 2 pages of development section.
Never flash ROMs not meant for your phone as it will brick it; even GT-s5570I and mini 2 ROMs must not be flashed.
Never use ROM manager as it can brick your phone.
Hope this helps
Press thanks if I helped you. :good:
Thanks ThrashMetal King, some of that was really helpful! One thing though, just about all the ROM links are invalid (404 file not found) and if you check the link you gave for rooting GB 2.3.6. you'll find that the link for the upd_1.zip file is dead, i.e. there's noting stored there anymore.
Any alternatives to the rooting link you gave?
Btw, has ICS been officially released for the Mini by Samsung? Or is it ported versions of ICS only that are available?
