Hi all,
since knzo have decided to stop developing Nova v7 despite certain little bugs, I've decided to create my own post to share with you a package to solve all the solvable bugs until the date.
In this first version, the flashable package contain/solves:
- SmartassV2 governor Issue (with modified nova script).
- Updates Superuser 3.0 from Beta3 to Beta4 and /system/bin/su permissions set to 7777.
- Autoset I/O Scheduler on boot (with modified 11nov init.d script).

(MD5: 004bedbdd3cec21779af2538d32f75c4)
Problems with Superuser? Try some of the following packages. First mantain 3.0 Beta3 and second contains the latest stable version. Both with su permissions set to 7777.

(MD5: 4373fb38d9f8fac857ed77b046285ffe)
Instructions: Put it onto sdcard root and flash it whrough CWM.
I tried the package and working ok but I am not responsible for any damage that may result in your devices.
So many thanks to Antonio1475 and knzo, good work dudes! ... and thanks to all who have helped into Nova project!
I hope this thread will please everyone involved.
Regards!
Meh, even though I know the bugs are there and I can fix them, I just said it wasn't worth a new version.
For now at least. If more appear, I can release another one.
I'm tired.
You could rename it to v7.1 patch by the way, I'm fine with it. It's more of a bug-fixer than optimizer!
P.S. It's the I/O sched autoboot feature that was fixed, not governor.
which i/o is best? what are the differences between them?
thank you, all is going well so far
No need to new versions IMHO. The work is done.
Relax and rest for 2.3 arrive...
Feel free to take it, rename it and post onto nova's thread, it's in your hands.
Optimizer is not the word i guess too... i'll rename it.
I hope to release new versions with true opts or enhanced existent features.
Regards.

IMHO InteractiveX is the best, but i don't mind lower performance but better battery last.
There are explanations inside nova's thread. Use the search...

Ops... I'm not used to tapatalk!!!
v(r) seems to be the best overall but with ups and downs in performance while sio is more consistent performance.
Try them for yourself... if you don't see the difference... both are good for you.
From what I've read on the main Nova ROM thread, on v7 for Froyo, WiFi meter readings do not correspond to true signal strength. This is due to the more important tweaks knzo did.
Just a thought, if those tweaks weren't in older versions (such as v4.5, which is imho, already a fast version, but WiFi signal readings are true), is it possible to modify Nova v7 (meaning, ditch the tweak or tweaks that make signal readings erratic) so that WiFi readings are true without ruining the performance?
It's possible... when I know which tweak has generated it and where is it...
After applying this patch has increased the power consumption of the system (in Тутор the System process and the Kernel). In a Terminal at one and the same Governor SmartassV2. Returned to made a backup.

Aha,
then:
- modify a caracter at nova in order to operate well with SmartassV2 (the same if you had applied the smartass patch, and you had already applied it because you are using it before according to your probes)
- modify a caracter at 11nov in order to set iosched on autoboot (if the same iosched is set, its the same)
- change superuser beta3 to beta4 (in your case you already have beta4 because freezing with beta3)
makes a difference in power compsumption at your OB...
You have different power comsumptions at different moments, I'm sure it isn't by the patch itself... because you had all implemeted yet!

Yes, I do patch SU yesterday, today - do your patch, but freezing (black screen when the application is started) sometimes present.

Certainly the included versión (Beta4) is not the same as knzo's version (the date soesn't match) so i've created an alternative package for all who have problems with su.

Hi there, I've already tried that method, modifying Nova v4.5 with kernel v7. first time try, I don't get overclock, still the same 1 GHz, and the WiFi signal still the same. But I notice that actually it work (even on Nova v7), the signal update in minutes. I've test it, if the phone connected to AP, wait for a minutes, and the signal will full. Then, go a little far away from AP, then the signal updates to low signal also in a minutes.. Well I don't know what's the problem.
Second try, I include overclock_p970_22.ko from Nova v7 (which I don't include it at first try), but it hang/freeze after come to "desktop". Well, it mean that v4.5 and v7 are not compatible
So I release battery, start it again, and go to recovery mod, and apply Nova v4 and v4.5 to have normally system. And when I came back to this forum, I see post that contain fix for Nova v7. Well, I have to try it
Thanks Huexxx, will trying it... Here we go with another night flashing and flashing again

First post modified again...
The su fix from knzo only repush the program and set different permissions.
I've created three posibilities: beta4, beta3 ans latest stable.
I'll look into wifi problem.
Regards!
No wifi problem here.
And superuser works fine

WIPE DALVIK, BATTERY AND CACHE!
DONT FLASH 2 DIFFERENT ZIPS AT THE SAME TIME!
MAKE A REBOOT BEFORE EACH FLASH
If you are using AmonRa, disable signature before flashing.
NOT underclock below 480MHz. At lower speeds, wakeups-from-idle per second are bigger than 480MHz and they share the same voltage, so thats leads to more battery drain.
It's recomended to use: MIN 480 / MAX YOUR CHOICE

You can use! That keyboard option removed was an legacy linux hack thing to restart the computer via keyboard. (sysrq magic key)
About zram, it is enabled in the kernel, if you have flashed it in any version of franco.Kernel it will work here.
How?
Its simple, when you flash zram it will modify one part of your system, and kernel another. So you only need to reflash zram in case of wipe all data.

Other than that it's still my kernel. That's all the info I can give to you.
New version released. (IT'S ON THE FIRST PAGE)
V8 was compiled with -Os (to make a small kernel)
V12 was compiled with -O2 (to make a faster kernel)
V12 got cleaned up ethernet 10/100 drivers, some scsi drivers, some loggers, some debuggers, some useless stuff. for now, only bfs version.

The aim of this kernel is to be the most feature rich kernel available for the Incredible S. The kernel is the engine of your phone, and I want to include support for everything! If there is something you need and it isn't here, let me know and I will do my best to add it. XDA is a community, and lots of the work in this kernel has been discovered / and created by a wide range of people, all of whom this would not be possible. It is pretty impossible to name all of the people to thank, but know this is the result of a whole community, and my gratitude goes out to everyone who has contributed to this site!

Instructions for S-OFF Users
Simply flash XS-ICSvX.X.zip in your favourite recovery!
Instructions for manual flashing (HTCDev.com unlocked S-ON Users)
Thanks to MrToastbrot for instructions
Step 1: Download the XS-Kernel.zip, then open the Zip on your computer and extract the file mkbootimg.sh in "kernel"
Step 2: Open mkbootimg.sh in a texteditor like notepad++ or notepad, then edit the following in line 3:
Code:
output /tmp/newboot.img
to
Code:
output /sdcard/newboot.img
Step 3: Save your edited file and place it back in your zip, copy your modified zip to your phone-sdcard and install it in the recovery. Then reboot your phone and connect it to pc and take the newboot.img from the root of the sdcard.
Step 4: Now reboot your phone into bootloader and flash it via fastboot flash boot newboot.img
Step 5: Once you phone has booted, mount the system as r/w using something like ES file explorer or Root explorer, then type the following:
Code:
adb push bcm4329.ko /system/lib/modules
Set permissions to rw-r--r--, reboot and enjoy!
Sweep2Wake: Q&A
Q: How do I disable / enable the feature?
A: Two options
Change the value in the file /sys/android_touch/sweep2wake to either 0 for disabled, 1 for enabled and 2 for enabled with backlight. This will be reset upon rebooting.
If your ROM supports init.d scripts, then flash the zip to enable or disable, this will stick over a reboot.
Q: It keeps taking screenshots when I lock the screen!?
A: This is due to an incompatibility with this feature and the native screenshot in Sense. TO stop the screen shots, you need to edit your build.prop and change the property ro.htc.framework.screencapture to false, and then reboot.

Nice. Downloading right now. Making a backup right now since I was thinking of flashing this new Google Now ZIP as well.
Also does this mean we can get CWM 6.0+? IIRC, one of the requisites for it was a ICS kernel to be able to compile it. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Which ROMs is it support?
MIUI will work whit this kernel?

Forgive my noobness but how is the file size only 100kb?
I have only test on MIUI v4, but it should work with any ROM, I would like some feedback if there are any ROM's it doesn't work with.
There is now a flashable zip on the first post, I made a proper schoolboy error when I first uploaded it, that is now fixed

This is just a new kernel, that is why it is so small.
Did you read the OP and the second post? The instructions can be found there.

There is now a proper zip you can flash, check the second post for instructions.
The kernel in Ice Cold Sandwich is a Gingerbread kernel (2.6.x) which was modified to work with ICS (rather awesomely by Kaijura I might add). This kernel is built from the latest 3.0 sources.
Oh sweet! How did you manage to do it so fast?
One last question, none of my data will be lost right?

No data will be lost, but I would backup in case there is an issue with your install.

I think that you can delete 1.7GHz, 1.8GHz, 1.9GHz & 2.0GHz
Because they are unstable

Mobile data works fine for me, again shouldn't be affected by the kernel. I know MIUI has some issue with data anyway, check the thread in general to see how to fix that, but if that doesn't work, let me know.

Different chips are more resiliant. I used to have one that could sustain 1.8GHz with no problem, but I sent it for repair as the screen got smashed, they sent a replacement and this one can't go over 1.5GHz without crashing instantly, the option is there for anyone who wants it though.
IceColdSandwich 8.3: looks good, only broke camera and rotate buttons, but I expected it
Edit: doesn't work gps and bluetooth, IceColdSandwich either has a lot of hacks, or would need it
Working fine here. Now to see how high of a OC I'm willing to work with hehe.
kernels work properly on both IZS & ICS
main features: swap & zram support, undervolting, wided frequencies' scale 200Mhz-1.1Ghz
swap usage is strongly not recommended, as it causes lags in UI, zetram, otherwise, is almost a musthave.
wonna announce in advance, that dafna_v4.* would be (soon, i hope) on the latest 3.9.4 stable linux sources.
dafna _v3.3:
haven't changed a byte in code - only trickstering with linaro's commandline parameters.
results could be seen by eye; according to tests dafna_v3.3 makes now on lionheart even larger figures than diana_0.3 did on performance.
necessary tunings (without them rom would lag or even become unstable/freezed): lionheart, bfq, cache 2Mb, aggressive OOM, seeder, zram.
sicdezmond (from 4pda.ru) suggests that it may be usefull before installing this version to wipe cache & dalvik.
dafna_v3.2:
v 3.1 + additional undervolting of 800 Mhz.
rebuilt on the latest versions - android-ndk-r8e & gcc 4.7, theoretical and/or practical achivements of this rebuilding had to be finded yet.
due to the widely known gcc 4.7 bug, wifi module does not compile properly (any help or ideas for any workaround would be greatly appreciated), but module from the previous version of dafna could be just copied to /etc/wifi (proper permissions 755 had to be checked/set, of course).
overall feeling: it's much quicker and has lower power consumption than dafna_3.1.
necessary tunings (without them rom would lag or even become unstable/freezed): lionheart, bfq, cache 2Mb, aggressive OOM, seeder, zram.
dafna_v3.1:
v3 + upper limit changed to undervolted 1.1 Ghz according to lgeob's (from 4pda.ru) idea of frequency's changeling.
necessary tunings (without them rom would lag or even become unstable/freezed): lionheart, bfq, cache 2Mb, aggressive OOM, seeder, zram.
dafna_v3:
v2 + tuned undervolting + changing of lowest frequency to 20Mhz (also added upper limit 1.1Ghz is recognized, but not used by the system).
necessary tunings (without them rom would lag or even become unstable/freezed): lionheart, bfq, cache 2Mb, aggressive OOM, seeder, zram.
Historical review:
dafna_v2:
v1+ undervolting of wifi + disabling ipv6 + disabling ethernet in company with a pair of not needed TCP protocols.
dafna_v1:
based on diana_v.3 by Huexxx, swap + zram, light undervolting after lgeob's ideas, disabling of most of the kernel's debugging.

any app you like.
the simpliest and easiest way is to set it up with the init.d scripts (seeder, of course, had to be only installed).
as to the apps - android tuner, android trickster, no-frills CPU (for example) - most of them can tune partly required, but none can tune all mentioned.
Great job mate.I'll test it on Trasmusic v30f.Hope that oc is stable

and a few small touches
Version 2.1 Crossbreeder
]Added newest Crossbreeder to install package
Slightly modded GPS settings.
changed updater script to be compatible with the S4 and all other rooted Android devices
~New~ Version 3.0.2 ~
~added more init.d low memory tweaks
~added a few more small kernel tweaks
~swapped out the stock browser for my modded variation
~added a browser cache script (hoping to load browser pages quicker)
~added delay to the larger scripts (to speed up boot times)
Infromation About CrossBreeder-
- This is a new take at Android lag reduction. It's lightweight and won't consume battery. Users have reported drastic improvements in usability and even benchmark scores. It will show noticeable improvements - Android devices from Donut to Froyo to Gingerbread to Honeycomb to ICS and Jellybean.
- This is a combination of 5 different methodologies to reduce Android lag.
- Removal of DNS lag . A lot of the lag in a lot of apps, apart from the GUI lag, is due to slow DNS querying, specially on the mobile network.
- CrossBreeder now runs a caching, parallelising DNS client on the device. So now most of your DNS queries will be served from the cache and if not found, the query will be sent in in round robin fashion to multiple DNS servers including Google DNS, OpenDNS and your home router and the reply will be served to you, hot.
- This speeds up network access and networked apps, like Browsers of course, and Tapatalk, Gmail and thousands of others drastically. And removes a lot of the lag where it was due to DNS querying. This will not increase your network or download speed but pages will load much faster.
- This will future proof your devices as more and more apps start using HTML5 and/or reside completely as web pages or the like.-
I Just thought, there are some great developers in our forum, with great tweaks, geared for their own specific purpose, and i thank them. I HAVE asked for permission to use these tweaks, to make a pack of the best, from the best taking a few of those great tweaks and putting them in one lightweight package. Now , I did NOT create any tweak in this pack. That is why introductions and thanks are in order.

Boot into custom recovery
Flash ComaDose
Reboot to rom (flash stock kernel) or reboot system etc.
This is a .zip file, can be flashed with CWM recovery, put on root of phones storage, boot into recovery & flash.
Issues with repack and new Custom Recovery kernels-
Now Ive heard it works for some people on repacks, and ive heard of battery drain, and GPS taking along time to lock on others. But the best results i get, are out of the "stock" Leak kernels.

Test Init.d With The "21 Test-init.d" script
-THINGS YOU NEED-
Rom Toolbox (free or pro)
Root Access (superuser access) for Rom Toolbox
ComaDose Already Flashed
-Steps-
After ComaDose flash, if you want to check if your init.d is functioning properly you can check it with the 21 test init.d script...
After flash the test init.d script has already ran (on startup) now thwe sole purpose of this script is to show whether or not init.d
is properly functioning.
When this script is ran (executed) as all scripts in init.d are upon startup, it creates a file in the /data folder.
so why dont we take a look for it?
Using Rom Toolbox, go to the "root browser" tab (upon first startup youll be prompted to SuperUser permissions, Allow this)
Once in Root Browser youll be in the root of your device by default. ( / )
Click on the "Data" folder..
In the /Data folder, were looking for "Exit Only Init.d" file
if you see this file, your init.d is working and all scripts are running ...
If you dont see this file after reboot (post flash) you can execute the "21 test Init " script manually...
back out to the root of the phone, go into "system", then into "etc" then into the "init.d" folder and locate the "21_testinit.d" script, press on it , bringing up this menu.
press the "open as" tab, bringing up this menu...
then press the "script file" option..
Then you want to press the "execute Script" option, making sure the "execute as root option is checked, as shown below.
which will then execute the script using init.d support to do so.. looking like this
after its executed, go back into /data and find the "Exit Only Init.d" file if its there your init.d is working.....

This Mod is NOT Kernel specific. its init.d scripts, a few extras like gps.conf files , this is great on battery makes phone sleep like a baby, (depending on what you have running , obviously) now with the added Crossbreeder it give it a nice snappy response aswell

I would uninstall the current Cbreeder , then reflash ComaDose, better to start fresh. that way nothing being conflicted, or written over.. etc.
So I take it stock mf9 kernel wouldn't actually work where it doesn't support initd or does this add that ability

this pushes init.d support my friend.
If your unsure if your devices Init.d support is functioning there is a script in the /etc /init.d folder called 21_testinitd after flash, go to /data look for a FILE not folder, exit_only-initd. if its there your init.d - busy box is working...
:good: :good:
All benchmarks aside the N5 is in my opinion the best and the fastest
I've been trying to make it as fast as possible using different ROM / kernel / tweak combos.
Currently satisfied with Carbon ROM , Elemental X .34 , various build.prop tweaks , and custom sysctl / ram management tweaks using trickster mod & ROM toolbox pro.
Does anyone have any performance tweaks that can help me make my phone even faster ? Is there a way to use "fastboot" option like HTC devices ?
My fastest cold boot to lock screen time is 15.3seconds but I want shorter boot times xD
In using latest carbon ROM nightly, minimal gapps, dalvik opt zip. Latest GPU drivers.
Here are my build.prop tweaks :
debug.sf.nobootanimation=1
debug.composition.type=1
debug.egl.hw=1
debug.sf.hw=1
debug.performance.tuning=1
video.accelerate.hw=1
windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=300
pm.sleep_mode=1
ro.ril.disable.power.collapse=0
ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule=0
persist.sys.shutdown.mode=hibernate
ro.config.hw_quickpoweron=true
ro.max.fling_velocity=30000
ro.min.fling_velocity=20000
ro.kernel.android.checkjni=0
ro.kernel.checkjni=0
profiler.force_disable_err_rpt=1
profiler.force_disable_ulog=1
ro.config.nocheckin=1
dalvik.vm.execution-mode=int:jit
ro.mot.eri.losalert.delay=1000
debug.sfbootcomplete=0
persist.sys.purgeable_assets=1
persist.sys.use.dithering=0
ro.wmt.blcr.enable=0
dalvik.vm.debug.alloc=0
Can anyone provide me with anymore ?
And so far the most free ram I've been able to come up with -.- on my old galaxy nexus with slim bean I had only 112mb being used but I forgot how I achieved that.

Some do nothing , some drain the battery, some actually force the GPU to do what's accessible via Dev settings. And others help my phone boot faster , stock boot time for me is 25seconds. Carbon boot time for me is 19seconds, with all the settings and stuff I've changed its now 15 seconds, some people call it placebo, but if you actually time it , and test them individually you can see effects whether negative or positive

Which BTW, is there anyways to implement a "hibernation" mode like the HTC fastboot option ? On the nexus 5 or other non HTC devices ...
Is your device stable at 3.0ghz? I can only get mine up too 2.88 without any random reboots. -.- I don't think a change of kernel will help would it ? I'll try trinity which is what you're using correct?

Yes just flashed it, got nothing but fc's on carbon rom nightly 4/05 ... what roms is the trin kernel designed for.? Restoring backup right now as flashing elemental didn't save it... guessing trinity changed the ramdisk ?

I tried the normal b10 again, same issues. Just finished flashing carbon and the hybrid version of b10, and I can confirm it's working! Carbon ROM has traces of both AoSP and CAF , so normal trinity b10 was causing problems. This one is working though I can say I'm really missing the "cooler colors" of elemental ...

ahh.. the caf thats why.
Hi,
I would say... delete all the additional lines on your build.prop (I mean the ones you added). Most of them does nothing at all or they are worse or have side effects. Search on Google for each line and see the first/second page and you will see for what device it is made for (and the date of the threads...) then you will understand. remember you are on Kit Kat, thes tweaks were good (at least) on Gingerbread, maybe ICS but that's all... There are also some threads about these lines, tested and examinated in Android code source.
You will have better results by tweaking the CPU governor and i/o scheduler you are using. VM settings are good too but you will need a few days of tests to see what is right or wrong.
I tested a lot of build.prop edits (and like you I added a bunch of them), like the ones you posted and other ones floating around on XDA in some threads in the General Android forum..., I always delete all these lines, there is always something wrong at some time.
Keep your build.prop clean (well one or two are useful, I speak mainly about all the "performance" tweaks like all the "debug about the GPU/dalvik...." lines, same thing for the scrolling tweaks )
You will see if you really tested that, at least, all is same as before even without all these tweaks in general UI. In fact, like you said, one line does the same thing as the "Disable HW overlays" in Developer options.
Even some "devs" add these lines in their roms..., but well, urban legends and placebo effects are "solid"...
Yeah some lines do nothing , and I will clean up my build.prop but I'm keeping a few lines , like fling velocities, power collapse, nobootanimation.
And yeah I know what you mean about them being outdated, had those exact lines since 4.0.3 on my vzw gnex especially then I noticed big differences in over all performance. Whether they apply now or not, just got used to it I guess.
Revised build.prop :
debug.sf.nobootanimation=1
windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=300
pm.sleep_mode=1
ro.ril.disable.power.collapse=0
ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule=0
ro.max.fling_velocity=30000
ro.min.fling_velocity=20000
ro.kernel.android.checkjni=0
ro.kernel.checkjni=0
ro.config.nocheckin=0
ro.mot.eri.losalert.delay=1000
Edit: reusing the quick power on line
Without it carbon booted in 20.3 seconds
With it carbon booted in 18seconds.
Will see if hibernate line has any effect. Or the sf.bootcomplete line (which is supposed to show lock faster) Little to no difference is still a difference after all !
My Nexus 5 boots in 10 seconds without any build.prop modifications
