Hey guys. I have a question. I have flashed mcr rom on my o2x recently but before flashing, i saved a backup in cwm.
Now that i want to flash back to stock rom and kernel and the exact same original settings and rom, can i just restore using cwm or what do i do?
I am from Singapore using Starhub.
Thanks guys

The main problem is that MCR will have converted your partition to ext4, which the stock ROM can't read. As far as I understand, there are two options
1. Use http://android.modaco.com/content/l...3-for-converting-your-device-er-back-to-ext3/ but make sure you have the backup on your SD card, so before you reboot, you can restore it (if you reboot without restoring, bad things happen).
2. Use nvflash to put the stock ROM back on, and then restore your CWM backup.
But. . . someone who has done this may be able to confirm - if you want to be extra safe, check in the MCR thread.
Thnks for the reply! So cwm is actually not really a rom backup image?

It is, but because the disk format is changed when you install MCR, I don't think you can restore it, without changing the disk format back first (I guess it depends how low level the image goes, maybe?)

Pretty sure NAND restore would be fine.
I see.
So by right what i have to do essentially is to:
1. Convert back to EXT3.
2. Make sure my NANDRIOD backup is in SD Card.
3. Off phone and go into CWM then recover NANDRIOD.
Should be all?
Don't quite understand the nvflash. May i know what is that?
Hello,
I can't flash any ROM. I have the ClockWorkMod recovery. When Flashing a ROM, for example Cyanogenmod, it flashes it in 10 secons, and when I reboot it gets stuck on the lg splash. When trying to restore my anandroid backup witch I made with the same CWM 4.0.0.5, I get an error: Can't mount /system!
What can i do? Do I need making partitions? Are there HBOOTS in lg optimus 2x?
Thanks
update cmw version to 5... that should fix your problem

Really thanks for your reply, but my problem is that i can't even flash a ROM or restoring my own backup I made. How can i update it?? Thanks very very much!
Flash ext4 converter from the recovery, and then flash the rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037751
And I am assuming the backup you are trying to restore is from a stock rom, then flash backtoext3 from recovery and then restore.
Both files are available from the same thread.

And also don't forget to update CWM to v5, install rom manager from market and flash the latest recovery

Ok, so really really thanks for your answer. the backup is from the original LG ROM...does that change something??
Thanks!
Yup, the stock rom is ext3 while cm7 is ext4. Its just two different filesystems.

So, the steps I have to follow are:
1. Flash ext4 converter
2. Flash a new ROM
3. Flash CWM 5.x.x.x with Rom Manager
And, whenever I want to restore my backup, I need to flash before the backtoext3 patch.
Is that right? Sorry for being so stupid!

You need to first wipe data, cache & go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache.
You need to flash backtoext3 only if the backup you are trying restore is from a stock rom or a rom which is using ext3 filesystem.

Ok, so finally I have successfully restored my backup. I flashed the ext3 patch and done. Now I have installed CWM 5.0.1.6 Is this recovery ok?
Now, before doing anything, I want to know what steps do I have to follow to install a ROM.
Even having this new recovery, do I have to flash the 4ext flasheable to install roms like Cyanogen, Thanatos, Miui...?
Thanks!

I am having v5.0.2.0, Check the rom manager if there is an update if not than that recovery should be fine.
To install a rom you need to wipe data, cache and dalvik cache. After that just flash the rom.
You don't need to flash ext4 zip, because ext4 based roms will automatically convert the system to ext4.

I think this thread should help you. An all in on place.
- Make sure that you read and understand complete instruction on the particular ROM developer's thread. Pay attention to the possible problems and solutions.
- Nandroid backup. Backup other user data and applications
- Make sure that you wipe/format the /system partition before flashing a ROM. I was not doing this untill recently. Ever since I started formatting /system partion, not getting SODs and BSODs like before
- The CWM you are using now is bit outdated. Look for the latest version - I think it is cwm-5.0.2.7-R2. Check out this link.

What version of CMW do you have? Did you do a Full Wipe?
And for better compatibility be sure to come back to ext3 with backtoext3.

Do not use CWM touch recovery and you should be fine!
Maybe you could try to re-root your phone. I had the same problem and I figured it was because it wasn't rooted properly. What program did you use to root your phone?
Im using 5.0.2.0 without Touch.

But when you try to flash Nova, what settings do you install? (In Aroma installer) And what rc version?
Latest rc
Aroma installer on default

As far as I know Nova HD had some issues with flashing with full wipe. You can try to flash it 2 ways:
1. Flash NovaHD with full wipe and then flash it once again WITHOUT wipe. This should do the job.
2. Make a full wipe in CWM and then flash NovaHD WITHOUT wipe.
Hope it helps.

So much smattering out here
formatting /sytem before flashing?
useless... nearly every rom-package runs its own format command for /system, so its bullsh* to do it manually before.
if you want to get sure that /data is ext formatted, just use the format or datawipe option of cwm.
rooting makes problems?
cmon! the "rooting" is just for being able to install cwm, not for using it.
cwm will always have root when its flashed once.
the missing root part in stock roms is missing in the stock kernel, not in the phone itself.
do your wiping/formatting before you flash any rom, if you wanna clear all system relevant partitions.
some rom-flashables are writing into /data and when you do the data wipe after that, it will delete those stuff again.
if you have any bootloop problems after flashing its a kernel or /data problem.
try to mount /data in cwm, if it fails you know what the the problem is.
remove battery, hold vol-down, power keys when you put the battery back in, to get back into cwm and try to format /data until your data partition is fine again.
if the bootloop is still there try another kernel.
hi for all guys,
I have bought lg optimus 2x as second hand I searched so much it has 4.0.4 cyanogenmod 9 but not work properly with all power because of lack drivers and nowadays it is said that offical ics will come that way how can I return this phone lastest offical image I looked web and xda now I am confused a little bit I m afraid to do wrong something.if you help me I will be more than happy.
Thanx.
If you had backup the original rom, just restore it with cwm
Or
Search smartflash on google. Download it with the basebands etc and flash it. Just search it and you will find the steps.

Why not flash CM7? Everything is working and the rom is very fast and stable.
Try temasek's builds, I never had any problem with his builds (no OC).
Just boot CWM, make a full wipe and flash the ROM.

Well. I wouldn't say stock is 'stable' I had constant crashes, rebooted the lot.
If anything, go for cm7

no you cannot just restore to original rom, cause it uses different file type cm9 ext4 but stock rom ext3. you should flash back to ext3 which wipe your internal sdcard, so you should backup. after you can use nvflash or kdz updater to install stock rom.

normally you shouldn't need to go back to ext3 when using NVFlash because NVFlash recreates all partitions before flashing the firmware
working
Follow the guide step by step...
Pull the battery push volume down and connect phone to your computer - now it says S/W Update please wait - and if everything (all the drivers) are installed correctly the Smartflash/LG Updater should see the phone and you can begin flashing.
If you phone isn’t seen by the software almost probably the driver isn’t correct.

1. make a backup (on external SD)
2. wipe data/factory reset
3. wipe cache
4. advanced >> wipe dalvik cache
5. flash ROM

What about your CWM version? The latest is 6.0.3.1. Incorrect version results in disasters

@tomkasz forgot to say i do a complete data wipe before flashing! Didn't clear my dalvik before (thanks for pointing that out mate!) @hernest my current version is 6.0.2.8, so im guessing i need to update my recovery? If so can i just use the clockworkMod app from google play and do it that way?
Am i right in thinking that because im on v20a at the moment that i need to flash a JB ROM? Or can i flash an ICS without having to downgrade via KDZ first?
Thanks for your help guys!

In order to flash ICS you have to use LG Flash Tool. There is a thread on xda showing how to do it step by step.

Your Recovery version is the culprit, then. Just install ROM Manager via Play Store and update your recovery to the latest version. Your life will be much easier in terms of flashing ROM.
To roll back to stock ICS from JB is quite a task and can't be done by simply flashing ICS based ROM. There's a thread on general section dedicated to this topic, you might want to do some research before doing so. Like the previous post said, there are no fully compatible ICS based custom ROM. Anyway, I think this device is much better in JB. Why would you revert back?
