Minus Account Setup Link - Off-topic

So I've started using a new file sharing service called Minus. It is a little cumbersome, but works much the same as dropbox. It has a webapp, android app, and desktop client. It's nice because you get 10Gb for free and a 2gb file size limit. If you want to sign up, please use my link http://min.us/rOAhhxc and we can both get extra space

Dropbox for Android - Access your pc files

I have just installed Dropbox on both my PCs and on my Android. This is a great way of synching files between 2 computers without the need for emailing them to yourself or continually copying them between computers.
THe PC version is here:
https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTc1MjQzMTQ5
For the Andriod version search 'Dropbox' in the market.
With Dropbox on your Andriod you can access files from your home PC without having to actually have them installed on your device. Never forget a file again and save valuable space on your SD card!
How did I ever manage without it?!
Yeah, it's really good stuff
Dropbox for android is awesome!
I wish it would actually sync to your SD card, instead of just letting you access it online, as offline sync is my favorite use for it on my laptop. It would use a lot of data, so maybe a setting to only sync on wifi.
If the OP's referral link gets maxed out, i've shamelessly posted mine. By using one of our referral links instead of just going to http://dropbox.com, you get an extra 250mb, and we get an extra 250mb.

File hosting.

Getting file hosting sites (rapidshare, etc) to work on my mobile is a bit hit and miss at best. I have seen numerous people ask for extra mirrors to files because they are unable to download from certain file hosts. so I have 2 things for you to ponder...
-What is the best host as far as compatibility with mobile devices?
-should we recommend people use a certain host when sharing their work with the community?
P.S if you have any tips on getting file hosts to work properly when mobile don't be a stranger...
i hv downloaded from these file hosters through opera mobile and ie.
-mediafire.com
-4shared.com
these 2 are are the easiest and most convenient for mobile use. no download limits and only 10-30 sec waiting time for 4shared.com.
As strange as it seems Google docs is great as a mirror! You can share any file type and unlike others sites that impose a 250MB size limit, Google docs has a 1GB limit.
I'd like to revive this thread. Dropbox temporarily shut down my public links because apparently I had gone over my bandwidth. I replaced all my DropBox links with FileDropper links (don't need to register, fast, 5gb size limit, etc) but there's no manager. If you create a free account to get the manager I think your upload size is limited to 200mb or something.
Looking at FileFactory now but wondering if anyone has other suggestions. The Google Docs one looks good because I already use that all the time anyway.

Free 50 gb cloud storage from box

i just upgraded my box app and got a free upgrade to 50 gbs! Now through March 23, it looks like, update or install and get 50 gbs.
I can finally uninstall that worthless OpenDrive app. There are so many cloud storage apps out there, but most of the apps are among the worst the market has to offer.
Hey,
I had 50gb since the LG promotion. The only downside is that the box does not have a desktop component for free. But box is great for me cause I do alot of sideloading and I can do it on my phone and on my nook. I get a prompt on my phone asking me if I want to install an app or upload it to box. I install on my phone first then upload to box and then install on my nook.
Another great cloud service is dropbox.
Eh I already have 100 free GB unused from their iOS promotion. The limit on the file size makes it useless for using for anything useful.

Yeah, the size limit can be a bummer, but my reading material needed a permanent home instead of loose sdcards.
I have put all my books and funny books (which can be up to 20+ mbs an issue, which adds up quick for files you can read in ten minutes) up onto Box with Foldersync. I then use File Expert, which has a file explorer for cloud storage that is easy to use and woks just like any other external storage explorer.
From within File Expert I just periodically import any number of things i think I may be interested in reading that week or so and import them into Aldiko. Rinse and repeat, with my 20 gbs of media now taking up half a gig at worst and available permanently.
I had to periodically cycle through my box account and clean and restock it. With could storage becoming less and less expensive as it becomes more and more valuable, I couldn't make myself pay actual money to commit to one service when there are so many offering free 5 gig chunks. But it was hassle and insufficient, so this was great news for me.
How does this work?please explain. Thanks

[Q] Motocast or SugarSync?

The idea of Motocast (access files on home computer from phone) seems really useful. I see there is also an app called SugarSync. Has anyone tried both and like one better than the other?
I know Dropbox is also available, but I don't want cloud storage. I want to get the files on my home PC. Or can Dropbox also do this?
Yes, I should try both and decide myself. But my current phone isn't very current and I'm not eligible for an upgrade for 16 days, 4 hrs, 13 minutes, 36 seconds. So until then, I'm stuck with just browsing forums and looking through play.google
Thanks much for any replies . . .

SugarSync is also a cloud service. It stores all of your synced files on their servers, and then syncs it to your device.
I have no idea how Motocast works, since I just use SugarSync (heh , paid user even!) but if you are against cloud storage for whatever reason (privacy, etc), Motocast might be a better choice.
Thanks for the reply, podspi.
I installed Motocast on my home computer last night and setup one folder for testing. I logged into Motocast on my work computer this morning. I was able to open files from my home computer at work! Pretty cool! I assume it works as well on a Droid.
I have read more about SugarSync. Looks like it can do the same! You can put files on their cloud, buy you can also use your computer as a "personal cloud". I have nothing against cloud storage, but I would rather be able to access all my home files without having to put them in cloud storage first. My home computer is always on so that should work out for me.
