[Q] How to extract kernel.sin to make ramdisk? - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This question is more for devs, but anyone can answer it. So I can convert kernel.sin to boot.img with SIN2IMG, but how to extract it? All linux scripts give me errors about Android header or something else. Do I have to use HEX editor?

I found clean ramdisk from bootloader bypass thread, but still like to know. Please. doixanh?

Bump......

Too late... Only moderator can move it.

Moved to Q&A.
Anyway, this kitchen is what you need http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246 , it can extract boot.img,.
There is another way to do it but this one is the more simple.

You sure that the ROM is in a .rar file? Maybe you have the wrong file, because I think this link for the ROM and it isn't compressed in a .rar file, it's on a normal .zip.
The link you post is for another version of the rom.
The final edition is in a .rar file... http://www.mediafire.com/?96lczfm20959kgn

Ohh man,
Download that and
Extract that .rar file to your computer, you will get 3-4 files in that. Some are for ics layouts and 1 is for file manager.apk.
copy the apocalypse 09072012.zip into your sd card and flash via cwm...
Ah ok thanks, will give that a try
EDIT: Worked like a charm

I know this, but why the people don't read the thread before they flash??
If they read, then its saves time to making a new thread and asking the questions..

I can't find a way to unpack it, tried with flashtool, convert with sin2img and mount, none of them work..
@op:
- Is this the right fw?
- What's the filesystem format of the files?

I also tried it and I can not unpack. It is possible that JB unpacks differently?
i will try decrypting
thanks OP
Try this for decrypting the files to signed image form, however Sony might have changed encryption method: http://justdanpo.cheb.ru/data/projects/gsm/emmaextract.rar

They are already UNCRYPTED! i am not fool to post crypted stuff, they come from EMMA and yes Sony changed SIN format - so developers do something new (sin2img) - you have a chance to have all tools ready before Phone hit the market.
Can't try this myself right now, but should do the trick.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1834081
EDIT: I have been able to extract the files, I was so stupid
I should have known I should have done bundle creation first with flashtool
- Unless someone can tell me how to find the XZ loader.sin file?
EDIT2: Still same issues, and about the emmaextract, it does nothing. I'm probably using it wrong.
- And how big is Xperia Z system partition size? 2GB or not?
There is no loader in the packages. PavelX1 didn't upload it.

[TOOL][EFS][LINUX][ROOT]Simple efs backup Grand DUOS

Hello XDA,
I created a simple backup-script for the efs-partition of the GT-I9082
Instructions
1. Download the .zip file
2. Extract it
3. Open terminal and "cd" to the directory, where you extracted it.
4. type
Code:
./efs_backup.sh
if you got "rm failed for /sdcard/efs_tmp.img, No such file or directory", just ignore it
5. You can now find a file named "efs_backup_cwm.zip", you can flash it with cwm to restore your efs-partition
Why should I do that?
That's a simple question: Every Rom you flash and every root-app you use could have a simple bug and override/delete your efs-partition
What is the efs-partition?
It's a partition, wich is needed for any device-specific number like IMEI, Wlan-MAC-adress and so on. If it gets deleted/damaged, your mobile
will nothing more than a Mp3-player, unless you can flash back your old efs-partition.
Can you release it for Windows?
No, because I think every android-user should have linux installed on their pc and it doesn't cost anything. I have a dual-boot, too. If you want it on Windows, feel free to port it, it
won't be hard. If you want to install linux, I suggest you a debian-based distribution, because there will be the best support for android.
I WILL NOT ANSWER TO STUPID QUESTIONS!
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE ON YOUR DEVICE!
Thanks bro, it works fine with me

Cook a stock rom

How can I cook the stock ICS rom?
I had experience cooking the Galaxy S2 roms but it is very diferent, how can i extract the system?
Hey,
If u mean by 'cook', zip modding(my opinion), then extract the ICS system img and make a zip file which includes the system and all the files and a x86 update-binary. Should be in one of the ROMs uploaded in this forum. But u will need a update-script from an ICS ROM. Maybe it is somewhere.
Than the your actual question about extracting the system.img, it has been asked a few times and been answered. I don't have the link, use the search function somewhere in q&a IIRC.

ah okey,
There is no such kitchen for the razr i. The only thing u can try is to use the tutorials u found and try to apply them on the razr i. Most likely u need to modify some things
