You can find the stock rom from samfirmware.com
While flashing if you are using a single file then repartition should be unticked, if you are using multiple file pda,pit etc then you have to tick repartition
You are on gingerbread.
In my experience best custom rom is Darky's . you can try 10.2RE then upgrade with 10.2.1

you can roll back to stock rom at any time. for getting stock rom you can visit samfirmware.com
Once you flash the Darky its included the kernel. If you want to change the kernel you can change it later.

Sorry if there has been a thread like this that was posted already, had a look but couldn't find what I am looking for.
I would like to restore my Galaxy S (running now with Doc's 6.2 ROM) back to JPY and would like to remove my root as I keep having problems with freezing on several ROMs.
What is the best way of doing this so I could send it away for warranty repairs if need be? I was thinking about just updating my firmware using Kies to JPY, but surely it can't be that simple?
Thanks for the help!
Undo root
Factory reset to clear data
Use ODIN to flash stock firmware .
Or flash via Odin if you saved your original rom

I didn't save my original ROM, but I got a JPY off samfirmware, should be the same? So just flash it as PDA and problem solved?
So I can't update through Kies anymore? I would prefer this so I can get the legitimate ROM by my carrier in case something stuffs up.
Thanks for your help!
I'm interested in the same thing. I am running Darky 7, but i have some FC. I made before a back-up of my stock JPY with clockwork. Can I apply that with clockwork? It will work?
Thanks

The same minus whatever your carrier adds so its not what comes with the phone .
You could use an older rom from samfirmwares and flash that then upgrade via kies and the recovery method to save your rom . You will need to spoof your setings its all in the post.

Great idea, thanks for that
Hello.
I currently have a 2.2 galaxy s firmware witch i got using kies. I added the voodoo lagfix kernel to it.As i have read in the description, clockwork mod doesn't work with voodoo, so i'm stuck using odin for updating.
So, for the question: Is it safe to upgrade to 2.2.1 from Kies? And, moreover, how can I flash a costum rom like darky's or cyanogen? (i'm not sure about them).
P.S. How can I come back to stock 2.2 and delete the Voodoo kernel
Please help,
Thanks
create a folder within the Voodoo folder called "disable_lagfix" then restart the phone, it should convert back to RFS from EXT4 and return the rom to normal (ie. no lagfix applied)
once this is done, download whatever rom you want (JPY is the latest uk OFFICIAL relese i believe) or create your desired rom within Doc's Kitchen....
So, for the question: Is it safe to upgrade to 2.2.1 from Kies?
Yes otherwise it would not be offered by Samsung .
And, moreover, how can I flash a costum rom like darky's or cyanogen? (i'm not sure about them).
READ each post for instructions .

You should be SURE before flashing custom ROM. Read and collect as much information from their thread. This will minimize the risk for you to repeat same problems others have had...
Cheers...
Hi there!
I finally decided that I want to use the stock deodexed ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948790
(According to *#1234# I need the PDA/PHONE/CSC XXJPY/XXJPY/OXAJPY version)
But I want to use the speedmod kernel. For speedmod installation toturial I have this http://touristinparadise.blogspot.com/2010/11/samsung-galaxy-s-how-to-install.html
However I have no idea how to install the stock deodexed ROM. I suppose I can use the ODIN packages but I'm not sure if I have the 512.pit right now (I'm running stock 2.2.1 then I guess yes, but I would like to confirm this).
As well Im not sure if I need to flash the ROM first and then the speedmod kernel or the opposite.
I really would like some help here. Thanks!
Someone please?
Do I flash the ROM first via odin and then flash the speedmod kernel?
yes, rom first. then kernel.
at least that's what i always do.
Thanks!
Also what about the .pit file? The thread about stock roms says that I need the 512.pit, how do I know that I have 512.pit right now and I dont need to flash it (Im running stock 2.2.1 from samsung right now)?
Someone please?
Thanks!
see this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047924
Not exactly what I need but thanks!
Hello,

I want to flash an I9001. The phone is on 2.3.3 I though.
I've root the phone, now I can go to 2.3.6 by flashing a rom in recovery or do i need to go to 2.3.6 first?

You need to flash (for example) KQ7 with Odin, this updates the whole base of the rom, most new roms are build on KQ7 base so I think that's the right one for you
btw this is the wrong section, i9000 Q&A is the right section
I think we go for broodrom.
But it's important to get first to 2.3.6 stock? Or can we flash the rom directly by odin?
As an ODIN stock ROM also includes modem binaries that we cannot flash over recovery, it is a good idea to get to the latest stock ROM with ODIN and then start with custom ROMs over FeaMod recovery (it's basically CWM). If you have already the latest stock ROM on your 9001, you can use whatever method you prefer.
I think recovery is quicker and easier to use as you don't need a pc near you.
And which last stock 2.3.6 we can flash the best? We live in Holland..., don't know it is important?

Problem is you are still running Eclair?, Update your ROM to Gingerbread for it to function better with latest apps
but IF you must have only Eclair and want to root it, you can try various rooting tools found at Collections for Android link on my signature

Im on Eclair, but I dont want it anymore, I want to have the new Jelly bean, but cant have acess to root, neither rom manager neither CWM, so cant install nothing by that way... as I tried severals updated.zip and no one can work...
I was thinking, only if I flashed some ROM through ODIN3, like for example:
- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326416 as that is possible to flash over odin, and then i can flash some ROM with Jelly Bean through Clockworkmod...
Is that the best way?
It would work if I flash that ROM using ODIN, on top of Eclair 2.1?
Need some help here ^^
EDIT: Just saw that on your sig and in your post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11113557&postcount=1
If I do all those steps, can I install that Rom without any problems?
Even I haven´t root yet? =\

Yes, you need to use ODIN3 to Flash the ROM, since your goal is Jelly Bean, you need to be on Original Gingerbread First, to do that go here and select the Firmware according to your location http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881 ..Follow Flashing guide to the dot
Than go here and install a semaphore kernel, which will give you root and CWM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112908
after that you need to visit the Jelly Bean Developers thread of your choosing and follow their guide to install Jelly Bean ( BUT be aware Jelly Bean is NOT fully Stable yet)
Darky's Resurrection ROM is for those who are having problems , yours is Just a Normal upgrade, so best use latest Original Firmware, First

Yes, you don't need root for flashing, kernel are flashed same way as flashing ROM's, put the kernel in PDA ( don't tick anything) and press start in odin

You should look under Europe, the latest is JW7 but the CSC is only one, so better use JW5, with Multi CSC
