Broken Screen - how to mount via USB? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I dropped my captivate and broke the screen. Is there a way to mount it via USB so i can retrieve my files without access to the screen? Will Kies do it?

if you had USB debugging enabled (enabled by default in nearly every custom rom)
hook it up to your computer
cd C:\temp\sdcard
adb pull /mnt/sdcard/

[Q] how to force mount on a phone with broken screen

I managed to drop a glass container of baby food on my captivate, thus cracking my screen and making the phone unusable.... terrific!
I am looking to see if there is a way to force my phone to mount to my Mac so that I can backup then clear my internal sd card. I do not even know where to start. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
I'm not to sure about doing this on a mac, but if you have usb debugging turned on on your phone then you can use an adb like program to mount the sd card. If not.... Idk if it's even possible at all.

yeah you should always leave the phone in debugging mode just in case you need adb. the development kit is available for mac and adb is included. adb should work in recovery mode. it is one of the few top of the line andriod phones that is still debugging enabled in recovery mode.
adb is command line based so i hope you are comfortable with that.

[Q] adb help please

Hi guys. I've been stuck trying to get adb to recognize my phone. I believe I have the path right. I have only downloaded both the tool kits from sdk manager. My computer will notice my phone to transfer files and eveything. It continues to say no internal or external. When I run adb shell a0thats what it says. It also doesn't start with just a c:
Hi,
do you turn on in settings / Applications
- unknow sources
and in for developers
- Debuging USB
?
if yes and still not working, you must download a new drivers
http://www.motorola.com/Support/US-...tware_and_Drivers/USB-and-PC-Charging-Drivers
..just to relate my own experience, I had to toggle" USB Debugging" many times, off and on, before it was recognized.

i have tried all of this already.
What kind of USB cable are you using? It has to be the one that came with the phone because Motorola switches the cables around for whatever reason.
Yes I have the original cord. When I edited the path. I had to delete a \ before I put the ;. Should ad the slash back in?
anymore ideas?

USB Debugging mode is buggy!

i wanted to mass install my APKs over ADB using android injector, but it seems that usb debugging mode is buggy - it doesn't show my touchpad as a removable drive - it appears as if it's connected via MTP.
any help here?
thanks!

Unfortunately, I have not yet found a way to connect the Touchpad to a computer using USB. I usually use Wifi (AirDroid) or MTP, or just reboot into recovery. I'm not aware that the functionality has ever been implemented. I'm not sure what Android Injector is, but if it requires you to be booted in the ROM's partition and over USB, I don't think you can use it with the Touchpad.
But using adb isn't affected by MTP... I've never tried whatnot your doing BUT unless something is wrong with your cable or PC drivers.... adb commands like push, pull and install should work just fine if you have them allowed under Developer options

It should work out of the box, unless you have JB ROM. In that case, follow this:

Check if you dont have Fast Charge ON. Fast Charge have to be turned OFF.
I have Mivv's Unofficial CM10.1 Build beta 7 and Kowalski Kernel. I have PSP Fast CHarge turned off

I've got the app but when I'm mounting my device I get an error in terminal that permision denied and unable to initialize device
MTP or Mass Storage
1. First you need to be sure that the USB Fast Charge is switched off ( if you're using Kowalski Kernel ).
2. If you connecting using MTP, you will need some tools. Use gMTP. Either you can mount your MTP device as directory using mtpfs. Follow this instruction: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2055563
3. If you want to connect using UMS (USB Mass Storage), you need to switch it in Settings->Storage->USB computer connection (context menu)->Mass Storage. Or just select this method in stock firmware dialog. Then you need to reconnect your device and select usb storage in status bar.
4. If you have problem with all these methods, you can use ADB (Android Debug Bridge) to manage your files. Just enable USB Debugging mode in Settings->Developers options(switch it on)->Android debugging. Then install android sdk tools in your system.
Follow this instruction. http://www.xda-developers.com/android/installing-adb-on-ubuntu-the-easy-way/. Then use adb pop and adb push commands to manage with your content.
5. If you have problem with all of this method, you can use AirDroid application and manage your files wirelessly using Wi-Fi.

Have a good luck, mate!
I just needed to enable USB debuging. I enabled it and it solved all the problem
Hi,
I'm using CM 7.2 and I can't access any mass storage - phone > PC USB connection at all. Any ideas?

ADB says device offline, trying to install stuff to my gear.

So trying to use ADB through USB and command prompt with admin. Yet it says device offline. What can I do? I tried restarting everything.
You need initialize first. I just can't remember how I did it :s
Could it be root not working? Not selected connect on the watch? Dodgy cable/usb port?

I'm having the same issue attempting to side load apks via my macbook air using adb. I've tried multiple ports, multiple cables, and just can't figure it out...
Make sure usb debugging is enabled
Check the watch for a confirmation dialog box
