I have been having problems in using smartshare. My TV which is connected to my router via 'Ethernet' is not being detected.Both the phone(via WiFi) and the TV(Ethernet) are on the same Network.
Is the problem because of my TV being connected via Ethernet? Since both my phone and TV are on the same network shouldn't the TV be detected?

A long shot, but try to disable all firewalls and see what happens.

Tried it on my computer.
The phone is not detecting the DLNA server on my computer when its connected through ethernet.
But when its connected to my wireless network the phone is detecting the server. Why is the phone not detecting the server if the computer is connected through ethernet?
Went through that.
I discovered it was my access point.
I had three, two B/G did not forward UPNP packets (DLNA is basically UPNP with some extra flavors).
The only N I had did forward those packets correctly.
From my packet inspection it appears that some old&cheap APs (at least in my case, I didn't have any expensive devices to test) don't forward those packets at all. So they are restrained to the same local network.
That means ethernet can talk to ethernet, wireless can talk to wireless.
No eth-wifi crosstalk.
I also have
- Dlink 1522 and it works good (home level gear)
- Dlink 2553 and it's really good (semi pro gear)

What DLNA server are you running on your pc?
Is it some SONY made software?
I had the exact same problem as you:
running smartshare on my phone and it wasn't seen nor by the tv and neighter by the pc when it was connected on the 5GHz network ( i have two wifi networks, one on 5GHz and one on 2.4GHz, phone can only connect on the 2.4GHz one) .
When I connected the pc on the 2.4GHz network it could see the phone server ok.
Solved by changing the AP.
I don't know anything about the PS3 as I don't have it, maybe it uses some custom software that is able to overcome any limitation.
All I can offer is my own experience

So the PS3 shares the same access point of the phone.
TV and pc are networked via cable.
You ran your software on the pc that's connected via cable and the PS3 picked it up, while the TV didn't.
Correct?

Yes PS3 shares the same access point. The PS3 detects the server while the TV and phone dont..
When the PC is also connected via wifi then the phone picks it up!

But I suspect the AP anyway.
Can't you borrow another one (different brand and/or model) from a friend?
It's really strange.
Have you tried disabling the firewall?
Do you have more the one computer?
Can any other computer see all the others on the network?

I don't think so, I have used it quite well after I changed my access point.
I don't know what else you could try unfortunately.

The PSP can connect to AdHoc networks, but IIRC it's only used for multiplayer games. I don't think you can use the browser over adhoc. Granted, it's been years since I turned on my PSP and I never tried AdHoc mode, but /shrug.

Like as noted above, PSP can do adhoc but it will not attempt an internet connection over adhoc.
I think one thing these tether-for-gaming threads fail to remember is that the ping over a tether connection will start at around 300-400 ms. A lot of games that only support adhoc play have little or no latency-compensation strategies and will be nigh impossible to play. Furthermore, unlike a wired connection to the internet, commercial cell networks are not designed to establish very robust connections. Those disconnections as G1 switches between 3G, EDGE, and no data (remember everytime you get a call, your data will be disconnected) would make keeping a stable connection difficult.
I have never lost data while during a phone call. This is not winmo, which u can not use data during a phone converstion...
I used to connect my PS3 via tethering, but it involved using a router.
Get your pc/laptop online via tethering. use an ethernet cable to connect the pc that is already online to the port on the router where you would normally connect the modem. Connect your PS3 to any of the other ports as if the router was online.
Go to network connections and bridge the connection between your active tethered internet connection and the ethernet port connection. Once the connections are bridged you should be able to get online via the ethernet ports on the router.
It worked for XP using my old sprint Mogul (or better known as the titan). I now have vista and haven't tried it out, but it should work just the same. I used to connect an xbox and a ps3 playing online via sprints rev. a speeds.

Man I didnt even think of bridging...but you are right. tried it and it worked...
i was worried about this too. Then lastnight moved into my new hosue with no internet.... Found 1 spot in room on top of Ps3 where phone got 3g.... Used pdanet through USB, then shared that connection, then conncted the ps3 through enternet and played Bad company 2 for 3 hours with no lag. Now I cant find that 3g spot for the life of me lol. Old house, built in 1927... lots of lead blocking signals.

as a temp measure, i can connect my kaiser to the internet via my wireless router.
i can then connect the kaiser to the laptop with usb, but how do i share the connection?
only options using internet sharing on windows mobile are through gprs, which is no good.
laptop has windows 7.
why dont you DL the WLAN drivers for your laptop on your tilt. then copy that to your laptop and get your wifi working instead?

i.e wireless modem -> kaiser wireless -> kaiser usb to laptop, then laptop shares the connection

WMWifirouter turns your phone into a wireless router. If your wireless isn't working on your computer then it will not work with wmwifirouter..
I don't think you can connect to wifi and then internet share the connection. It will only work on the phones cellular data.

connect phone wifi to my wireless router.
connect phone to laptop with usb.
click on wmwifirouter->wifi to usb and it disconnects activesync and connects laptop to internet.
job done.

i've searched my query here in this forum but still couldn't find the exact solution.
Im pretty new to this entire "android" platform. just got my nexus one rooted and unlocked.
my only concern here is regarding "wifi Problem". I've got linksys Compact wirelss-G USB adapter (WUSB54GC).
Now I don't know how to access it just like a router.
Secondly, When i started using it with nexus one it connected without any flaw. But some days after It's not connecting with N1, having said that
I've also used this adapter with Ipad2 and sometimes the wifi doesn't connect to the ipad2 properly.
Now how I was connecting like I always delete the existing adhoc connection and create another one and then try to connect... after few tries it connects but after few days N1 says obtainig IP address... and in windows 7 the status says connected with "no network access"
I tried "WEP and other protocols" and also without any encyption as well but nothing is working here.
Actually In our country we dont have 3G network we're still on EDGE and that costs us much so here I'm relying on my home USB 1MB connection to use it via adapter.

I am not familiar with Oxygenmod, but if it is Gingerbread based, I would highly recommend updating your radio to 5.08.

Thanks... But let me update it that I've just updated to 5.12 radio... I was too curious that's y i played the bet. after update nothing seems to me different network signals are same i.e 100% blutooth working and havnt tried EDGE. WiFi still not working and stuck at "obtaining IP address"

I don't believe these phones have proper support for ADHOC, but it seems it is more of a computer problem if the ipad is having issues as well. Is there a reason you are trying to do an adhoc wireless network instead of getting a cheap wireless router?

well it's the first time I've got this USB adapter so I only know of this adhoc connection being made in win 7. havnt experienced a router though.
but could u please confirm if any cheap router supports my USB internet connection? (i dont have a DSL connection rather wireless)

I doubt any router would support the usb wireless adapter, but you can use windows internet connection sharing to share the connection through the wired connection. Then you can hook the router into your ethernet port on your computer and share the connection that way.
Definitely not the easiest, but I have never tried sharing an internet connection through an adhoc wireless connection.

I think I need to clear something here....
My ISP gave me a USB called (EVO), I just plug that "EVO" into my computer and I can download upto 3.1Mbps and browse and surf yada yada...
then I bought "linksys USB adapter" to make my internet connection WiFi.
Now how would I connect my N1 to internet via WiFi when u say "adhoc" is not supported.
Is there anything apart from what "Bassmadrigal" suggested.? (caz it sounds too technical for me)
I don't know if ADHOC is actually supported (and if it is, how well it is supported) on Android. But if you are having issues with devices other than your phone, then I think it is going to be a computer issue that probably won't be able to be fixed with any devices on your phone.
I can try to make it a bit more non-techincal...
Buy a cheap wireless router and use the router's guide to get a wireless network set up
Plug in the network cable from the computer's network card to the "internet" port on the router
Follow this guide to get Internet Connection Sharing up and running on your computer

I have already set up the chromecast with my wireless network through my phone. It seems there is no way to get it to work with my wired PC that is on the same network. I am assuming that this is just the way it is and I'd like to confirm that.

You need to be sending a wireless signal to the chromecast so no I don't think it will work on ethernet
My desktop works hardwired into my router, no problems. Just downloaded the extension for Chrome, and it worked.

When setting it up the first time it does a Wireless to wireless connection from your phone or Wifi Computer to the device. If you don't have Wifi on your computer you will need to use the phone for the initial setup. Once it is on the wireless network you can connect with any device connected to that network, wired or wireless. well that is once your router does not sepereate the wireless and wired clients
I'm having this same problem with my chromecast. Chrome cannot find the chromecast on the desktop; on Wifi or on ethernet. My laptops and all my android devices work without a problem though. Hopefully google hammers out some of these bugs

I hope this is how it'll work, as my network is similar. Router in the living room, with a cable going into a powerline Ethernet jack, emerging in my room where it connects to my desktop computer. So of course for initial setup I will need to use my phone or tablet because my desktop can't find the Chromecast if it's not connected to the router. But I'd certainly hope I can cast from desktop once the dongle has connected to the wi-fi.
Just to be sure - you're not running Windows XP are you? Because apparently XP is not compatible with Google Cast...
Router settings
Ensure you don't have your router settings on "isolate" (d'oi!)
Disable (or enable) any IGMP daemon.
Review your router settings - everything look sane? Any key words pop up?
uninstall your wireless network drivers and then scan for hardware changes; just let your computer reinstall the drivers. just got off the phone with the chrome ninjas and that fixed my problems.
I am also unable to see to see my Chromecast from wired PC's on my network. I tried disabling firewall, and checked all of my router settings. It's the stock Verizon router. I don't get it. It's a major negative that I can't see it from wired PC's.

I'm also on fios, so i'm thinking it's a problem with their router. I was going to try it later, but i found some information. If you login to the router then go to this site http://192.168.1.1/index.cgi?active_page=6059 and it give you some IGMP settings, which are hidden otherwise.

No trouble here with seeing Chromecast over Ethernet. Using a WRT54GL with Tomato installed.
My pc is connected to a airport express by Ethernet and I'm able to cast from it.

Is that the only change you made? Just changing IGMP Proxy from enabled to disabled? I did that, restarted router and pc but I still don't see the chromecast from the wired connection.

Make sure you are adding the extension to Chrome. I initially downloaded the app and it kept saying I needed to have WiFi turned on. Also make sure in addition to IGMP disabled that you have wireless isolation off.

I have the same problem. Chromecast works fine with iPhone and Nexus7 on wifi network. But what I really want is to stream from the Chrome browser on my pc (as advertised!).
I installed the Chromecast extension, but it says no devices found.
I called Google Chromecast support directly, and two people there told me it couldn't be done. Unbelievable. I explained that my non-mobile desktop pc isn’t on a wireless network (why should it be?); it’s on a wired network (faster, more reliable), while all my wireless gadgets are on my wifi network (all from the same router). They say the pc must be on a wi-fi network (the same one as the Chromecast), not a wired network.
I'm hoping some smart guy here has a better answer.
What happened? I decided to try to play video content with the one video that I had no problem. On my Samsung TV got a popup stating that a AllShare device was detected, I click okay, video plays in like a player window format, I back out to folders from my tablet showing! My source shows AllShare BubbleUPnP device. Confused but happier!

The new Koushcast? No, I read that Chromecast support was removed.
I think I know what happened. I have a Samsung WiFi adapter plugged in but have used it on a old laptop and it was plugged into USB port that might be a service port or whatever. I discovered that since using AllCast and never tried it again since. BubbleUpnP is just using WiFi to stream although I couldn't get back to my folder with the videos unless I used AllCast to start a video.
I've tried BubbleUPnP in the past but remember next to nothing! Navigating folders on the TV is a PITA, I do remember that.
The author of BubbleUPnP did mention supporting Chromecast in the future. At first I thought that they did, my mistake. Make that two mistakes!
I powered down/up, I was able to play compatible videos with the Chromecast that start with a good delay without using BubbleUPnP just AllCast. Videos that don't play with Chromecast from an Android device won't play using Chrome on a PC either nor cast.
Compatible videos is the key to success.
Interesting! I was hoping you had magically solved Android screen mirroring with Chromecast - my TV is too old to support DLNA video, only pictures and music.

I may have had my Samsung WiFi adapter plugged into the right USB port after all! I tried to access my PC from the TV and I had no connection because the setup was changed from a wireless connection back to wired again. This means that the use of BubbleUPnP, Allcast or Chromecast hoses the setup. I tried to use each one but couldn't get it to repeat. Some TVs comes with WiFi built in, I wonder if this is a issue with them or just because in my case, I was using an external WiFi adapter?
BubbleUPnP updated for the second time today, must have introduced a bug earlier.

Chromecast has its own wireless connection to your wireless router or access point, so I can't think of a reason why Chromecast would have any interaction with the TV's network connection.
Am I following you correctly that you have a wired network connection on your TV and the wireless USB adapter connected to your TV, and both are connected? If the wired connection on the TV is hooked up there should be no need to have the WiFi adapter as well, unless you have a really complicated network setup.
As long as both the TV and your DLNA source are on the same network, doesn't matter whether one is wired or the other is wireless. Unless something like AP isolation keeps the wireless clients from "seeing" the wired clients (uncommon), or the wired and wireless networks are on different subnets (rare).
tl;dr - try unplugging either your TV's WiFi adapter or the network cable on the TV. Do whatever is necessary to make the single connection work - and then try everything else. Everything should work.

Yes the Chrome cast has its own WiFi connection.
I have either the wired or wireless option but there is no wired connection to it that's why I had to get the Samsung WiFi adapter.
I was able to switch back/forth several times between DLNA(BubbleUPnP), TV WiFi and Allcast without losing any of them. I have no idea how or why but it did happen "once" or actually "twice".

I was able to switch back/forth several times between DLNA(BubbleUPnP), TV WiFi and Allcast without losing any of them. I have no idea how or why but it did happen "once" or actually "twice".

Ahh okay, I misunderstood. I thought your TV had a wired connection too.
It's possible the Chromecast and Samsung WiFi adapter are too close and therefore causing signal interference, so the Samsung WiFi adapter might have went back into a disconnected mode and the TV wanted it set up again. *shrug*
Worst case you could get a USB or HDMI extension cable, I guess. I have a ~10-foot HDMI extension cable on my Chromecast because it's connected to my sound bar's I/O box. At first it was to troubleshoot the Internet connectivity problems I was having (which were fixed with update to 13300), then I decide to leave it as it's much more convenient to access my Chromecast when I don't have to contort myself behind stuff, heh.

Just got my HDMI 90 adapter today, see what happens next to me?
The Samsung adapter is no cheapy from what I've read about it. No PC drivers for it but I researched its chip and managed to hack a INF for use on my old XP laptop, IIRC it comes up as a Linksys device.
