ROM I8700XXKI1
K : 2011

ROM UNBRANDED WITH MANGO!
Yes, it's cool but SamFirmware will release this ROM only if there are many downloads for the ROM I8700XXKH2...
I don't see the point to this. But, alas, what can we do...
it's really stupid...

Its not about the traffic.
Its just because we see the Wave II is hotter than the Omnia 7 this is really strange.
''playing like children'' you guys should be all happy that we release for free a OFFICIAL test rom of Mango for the Omnia 7.
Its only because one of our insiders leak something you all think we should release directly!
I can tell you this insider isn't a direct contact person of us!
Yes we have the rom and Yes we will not release till we have more downloads for a new release!
For example.
Lower sales S8530 over 1000 downloads in 36 hours. (Bada 2.0)
I8700 only 600 downloads in 36 hours. (Mango)
The sales of the Omnia 7 are higher than the Wave II.
We got this August version over 4 weeks since 2 days online now!

Nope we did the same by all bada 2.0 roms.
We release when we think the time is right.
We compare the Omnia 7 and Wave II because they are on the same level.
We just release I8700XXKH2 and you guys are blaming us for everything because we are not releasing I8700XXKI1
We are not a Santa or something.

Who is telling you we want specially a communty we are not like XDA.
We do what we want to do if you guys don't like we don't care.
This is how we do since many years now.
Thank God there is no big use for ROMs like this on Windows Phone like there is on Android & Bada or was on Windows Mobile. There will be an official release sooner or later anyway. Thanks to Microsoft's policy. In addition it won't wipe my personal data.
Thanks anyway
Cheers
[I8700 only 600 downloads in 36 hours. (Mango)]
The reason for less downloads could be allot of people are afraid to brick their phone.

If that is your policy I, personally, will respect it.
However, for the lack of the ROM itself I would very much like to know if XXKI1 is an Engineer or Product ROM? Could you at least give us this information?
Thanks in advance.

jap, I had i9000 and use to flash it 3 times a week, some times even more, but there was odin and everything was safe, with omnia it is dangerous operation.
another point that ppl not download KH2 is the branding!! i don't want to have a software branding on my phone so i don't load KH2
KI1 instead i would download immediately and flash it
EDIT:
But well if they want to have more downloads, i will download it So all of you guys instead of writing here download re-download etc etc
AND the only thing they want more downloads is, they get money for the downloads i guess:

I see a lot of hatin' for samfirmware and I see the rationale, but I don't think people should be calling names.
As for samfirmware, you know what'll drive more dls and revenue for your site? how 'bout releasing k1? I'm on the same boat as everyone here that doesn't want branding. The only thing that I like from official samsung firmware is hidden wifi, which I don't think I will use that much, but nice to have. I won't be holding my breath for K1 because stock MS Mango RTM is working flawlessly even on old omnia 7 drivers. And to be fair, I did download the engineer rom, just don't like the idea of wiping all my data just for hidden wifi and setting up everything again.
So how about it samfirmware? Want more traffic? I'll trade my two imaginary bandwidth children for it or I can just wait till official release through Zune which allow people to keep their data. I won't be holding my breath for K1.
There is possibility to update to KH2 via the imageupdate that was in the archive, but it doesn't work on all ROMs, just some - it depends on the CSC you used while flashing your current ROM I think.
I didn't manage to get rid of the one branded package in the update - I have both pksbuild tool and signtool, but I don't have any usable certificate to re-sign the new pks with . (And uploading just directly the .cab.pkg didn't work for me.)
(And you can flash back the original ROM or just bootloader with the patched flashing app.)

Hi,kind regard to you.i'm a omnia 7 user from china, and there many users in our china.
it's a good news that you shared the I8700XXKH2 rom but you don't know most of us from china can't access to the website hotfile.com(because the suck GFW.china goverment block many website such us Twitter/Facebook and many Network disk).
so we can't dirctly download the firmware from the link you shared,we download it from the mirror like u.115.com,a chinese network driver.Base on this reason,i think the number of your firmware been download is not the real numerical value. And we really hope you share the new rom agian and quickly.

SF,
I've used one of your ROM's before, to remove branding from my T-Mobile branded Omnia, and I'm very happy and gratefull.
However, I'm guessing most of us Omnia owners are not flashing/upgrading because we all are waiting for the unbranded mango ROM, not yet another NoDo or branded Mango.
Anyway, thanks for your hard work, and keep it up.
We will bring I8700XXKI1 but we don't give any details when.
Mango roms takes time!
Because many people are to dangarous we will make a online flashguide!
Firmware version I8700XXKI1 will be ponline together with some others. (Not WP)
We just want to see how HOT mango roms are.
Other thing when you guys using other download links this will blockade newer roms faster.
Why do you think we release a lot of bada 2.0 roms.
So stay tuned!

Why are samsung leaking these to test, The FroYo FW must be into a good stage of development by now, I am unsure why we are 'beta testing' this and hoping for FroYo to be released working well straight off the bat,
Do you guys think we will get FroYo releases before it is officially released? I mean all these firmwares we are testing will be made into one that gets officially released.

IF they would release thier Froyo as beta to this forum - they could get beta feedback by reading about bugs posted by us AND does not have to deal with the consequences we know how to reflash - "normal" users dont.
So Win Win for both.

I fired up a google search and i found a lot of hits about a froyo alpha on a galaxy spica. Maybe some things got mixed up.
Yep, can't find anything about Froyo alphas or leaks for the Galaxy S, just for some of the older Galaxy phones.
I think we Android owners are a fairly impatient bunch.
In the time it's taken for the iPhone to go from 3.0 to 4.0, Android has had:
- 1.6 Donut
- 2.0 / 2.1 Eclair
- 2.2 Froyo
The phone manufacturers must have a heart attack every time a new version of Android is released and their handset owners immediately begin screaming for it...
Luckily the Galaxy S is the flagship of Samsung which they intend to sell 10 million of, so chances are we'll be seeing good support and the stream of beta firmwares shows they're not sitting still.
Froyo has been confirmed for August in Korea, and most likely September in international markets.
We've got to be patient and remember the Nexus One is still the ONLY Android phone that has received an official Froyo update as of yet. Even the Desire, EVO 4G, Droid, Incredible and Droid X are still on the waiting list.
From the sounds of it August-October will be the time the various handset manufacturers will be rolling out their Froyo updates.

Well they don't do themselves any favours by launching a new phone every couple of weeks and insisting on putting their own UI on top of Android.
Looking further afield: anyone think that Samsung will put Gingerbread on this baby?

Possibly but I think I have to go with the sceptic masses here that say samsung support isn't good in longterm and so I guess they won't do that. Unless ofc gingerbread is going to bring the massive UI update that vanilla android so desperately needs for usablity and samsung decides that touchwiy isnt necessary anymore.

There are developers assigned to port CyanogenMod to the Vibrant (T-Mobile US version):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=729364
Unfortunately, looking at Wes Garner's Twitter, he seems rather more keen on the Slide than the Vibrant:
I like the slide better
@wesgarner so does that mean your gonna keep developing for the slide?
@XJRodzx probably more for it than the vibrant

So don't know how that's necessarily going to work out. The intention is there, though, anyway - hope it's still in progress!
I have doubts with Gingerbread...from what we know so far, it's supposed to have a (MUCH NEEDED!) UI overhaul based around the Gallery's sexy look.
If a phone is launched with a certain interface, chances are the manufacturer probably wouldn't be keen on releasing an update that changes everything because of the issue with it being different to what the buyer paid for. Basically, it changes the product, and the picture on the box is no longer what you've bought. It's all well and good with something like Eclair to Froyo since it's largely just performance improvements and some new features rather than an overhaul.
If anything, I think Samsung would be more likely to release a new version of the Galaxy S at Gingerbread's launch. Much like it's doubtful the HTC Desire / Evo 4G / Incredible will get Gingerbread updates. Instead, HTC will probably have new devices ready for the new interface.
The Nexus One is the only current device I believe has a chance of Gingerbread, mainly because it's the 'official' Google phone and has been promoted and sold as a developer phone. They'll be wanting some nice apps ready for Gingerbread when it launches which will obviously need to be in development before Gingerbread-equipped phones launch.
Someone needs to put all these posts in order! and first of all establish a filing system! tags(well who puts tags?? maybe forced tick boxes) or brackets or something that will make it easier to find stuff!
That being said, can someone please point me to the official froyo for galaxy s? I cannot make kies work for some reason and I need to do it manually.
I have froyo but is either ****ed up, or beta, or something, cause it crashes like hell! Baseband version is I9000xxJP2
While you are at it, a guide on what is JPM, JP2, JP♥, etc is would be nice!
Thanks!
EDIT: I found one guide for installing 2.2 on the galaxy here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818556
Also try this website: http://www.samfirmware.com which has all the "official" firmware for Galaxy.
Still it would be nice to know about all the JP*versions...
There is no official froyo as yet. JPM and JP6 were briefly released earlier this month but they are by no means complete and still seem to have a number of issues. Samsung said that a new super fast official froyo release will be with us sometime in November. If you're brave enough you can try one of the releases available, I did recently, but I've gone back to JM1 that was supplied on my phone.
I know its an annoying and long wait but with any luck this will give Samsung the chance to get it right

Oh well, I thought the stuff they put up on their site was the official thing, and everyone is saying that they are rolling out froyo for the past couple of weeks...
it is VERY annoying, especially with all the good modders and coders that are around in xdadevs, and to be honest they prolly can build a froyo version much faster and cleaner than the "official" one....

Umm.. You do realise the modders here mostly take the Samsung code and enhance it right? Modding ROM's is a lot more difficult then writing/maintaining them (remember, the modders don't touch the drivers).
The situation does suck, but I actually respect many companies which delay releases more than those that don't. Because those that consistently deliver on schedule, often deliver their software with MAJOR issues (issues which may even require hardware to be returned for repair)
You can find here, on my PC:
c:\Users\Developer_007\.android\Froyo
FroYo for unbranded phones should be here early November. For carrier models Samsung have stated by the end of November. All we can do is play the waiting game. It gets delayed, delayed and delayed. Will probably get delayed till November, who knows?
Where you get information about november? Prooflink please!

So, another month of waiting. Fantastic.
I'm curious if this will be also the case for the rest of Europe?
They just replied to a customer asking when in November and they said
We're releasing Froyo from the beginning of November and we're expecting all networks to have it by the end of November. The key benefits of Froyo will include Google maps with navigation, as well as improved browser performance.
In Singapore too. Samsung Singapore has said that they are almost done with the froyo 2.2 and it should be release on schedule! =)

yeah, but it kind of is. Same software, different drivers. And the reality seems to be to me (Sorry if I'm wrong) that the software can be ported easily from one to the other, and the 2.1 drivers and bootloader just need to be updated for the 2.2 os and kernel.
Call me a conspiracy theorist - but I still think that Moto's dragging their feet because the Milestone 2 is almost exactly the same phone as the Milestone - it just has 2.2, which, conveniently Milestone owners can't upgrade to themselves.

not only they don't release the drivers to help developers like onecosmic and cyanogen, they stop their support on a phone who sold millions of units world wide.
i have this phone only for a year, and 2.3 is the last version i'll get.
but maybe we need to blame google because other company also dropping their support after a year.
maybe it is time to consider microsoft and intel combination. if they are doing such a great work on pc, and intel is about to release their cpu for mobiles, that combination will kick android a** i hope. i can't believe that this is the last update i will get, i have 2.3 for months, i dont care about crappy face recognitaion in 2.3.6 i want hardware acceleration.
i am staring to hate android. open source is great, until you are not getting anymore updates maybe the middle between android open source and ios is the answer like microsoft.
microsoft bring us directx games to cell phones and i am leaving crappy android today.

If you think you're going to be better off with a Windows Phone, think twice:

fact is, Samsung is a company that is only interesed in your money, just like all other companies out there. They're not a charity organisation. They want you to buy their phones.
the SGS has gotten 2 major firmware updates. eclair to froyo and froyo to gingerbread. There's not alot of phones out there that have gotten the same luck.
Of course it would be nice to receive an ICS updates but frankly i don't care. There's already a good working unofficial ICS rom and official Gingerbread rom does it's job more than pleasant.
I would say it's your loss since samsung always make better phone with better price compare to apple made in china trash. I know the software is not too good buy you have plenty developers here that can help the phone runs better. If you want ics just used one cosmics rom.

Do tell me where I get support for my original iPhone (2g) so I can up date the thing to v4 or even v5 iOS.
At the end of the day the SGS is near 2 years old and seeing as the SGS3 is around the corner I would consider the SGS old!
Anycase there is a ICS ROM for the SGS, just used that and be happy!
onecosmic and cyanogen can not fix the camera and other minor things without the drivers from samsung and i have 2.3 almost 6 months. so no i dont consider one year of updates to be that good. you want your phone, to be updated for a year and then throwit to the garbage?.
one year of updates for a phone who sold millions world wide is not enough and because of people like you it will coninue.
i tried 20 different roms so dont try to sell me that i can try onecosmic rom. the camera and other minor things not working correctly i am on cyanogen mod and i am ont happy with the camera and the battery life, tv out is not working and other minor bugs.
edit: not that i have any bad things to say about onecosmic and cm7 developers i know it is not their fault, they dont have the drivers. so thanks to all the developers out there for their best efforts.
im on 2.3.6... why dont you flash? its smooth as ever. Im happy for what it is. Do yourself a favour and get the value pack rom

It's funny how people count the Eclair to Froyo update as a point for Samsung when the phone was released after Froyo came out, Samsung was just damn late.
I got no problems with samsung. after i found this site i've loved the phone Must thank all the hard working people who just got the intrest to release all kinds of mods etc. they make the phone worth having

I really don't understand why Samsung says SGS is not capable of running ICS, while it is. I wouldn't go as far as not buying Samsung anymore, but I do think the reason given is BS.

Fyi, they're not saying it cant run ics, they're saying it cant run ICS with TouchWiz.
This is exactly why I sold my Sgs 6 months ago!

To be honest i'd be happy with a good Gingerbread (stock), I don't think it's been as good as the last Froyo 2.2.1 update, which suddenly made the phone work properly.
I think its a shame that there isn't at least a two year life span (a lot of phone contracts are 24 months) in terms of updates, but I also understand this technology is probably one of the fastest moving.

Samsung didn't design ALL components in the SGS, they have bought many from THIRD party (like audio part from Wolfson, etc. etc.). You have open source drivers for SOME devices and many of chip-makers sell Chips + Closed drivers with limited support. It's not the Samsung's fault if they don't want release drivers, Samsung use only BINARY drivers for some devices ! Blame some *****ng chip-maker firms. I used to fight a lot with Adaptec to have some source code to make working some $500 Hardware Raid card for FreeBSD some years ago, many chip-maker are VERY reluctant to give drivers code, and it's not a new story in Linux world.
Windows and Intel will make better ? Are you serious or just blind ? Why Vista was so "unstable" in his debut ? Drivers, Drivers and Drivers.. like Android. iOS ? Another joke ? Apple use ONE hardware and chip-makers are forced to give the code (or they're excluded from Apple, so they give all Apple want), iPhone is a very well sell and Apple is one of the richest firm in the world, chip-makers aren't totally stupid if they want to sell million and million of their chips.
And for your information : First ROM for SGS are build in March 2010, latest is Dec 2011, what a poor support..
I can see Samsung absolutely ****ting themselves reading the op. Dumb thread.

This is, IMHO, the main Android drawback.
Android is not really "open". It's a marketing hype.
Producers like Samsung make heavy "modifications" to their phones and do not relase their drivers.
We're lucky that SGS has an hardware similar to the Nexus S, otherwise I doubt we could have a stable ICS porting for our phone.
My next phone, if I'll chose again Android, will be a Google Experience One.
Bye.
