[Q] Is It Possible to Crreate Text Messages with Voice-to-Text? - HD7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I feel incredibly dumb asking this -
Is it possible to create text message text with voice input?
My Android phone always had a mic button on the keyboard to initiate this feature; which I can't find on the WP7 keyboard.
If I'm right and it's not possible on Nodo, is there a chance it will show up on Mango?
Before posting I checked this forum; all of XDA, my user manual and then Bing'd and Googled it as well and came up nil.
Any feedback is hugely appreciated - thanks!!
(EDIT) I just found out this WILL be a key feature within Mango..

There is a mic button for speech to text in 7720.68 works flawlessly!

Use a wired or a bluetooth headset and all goes to auto...
Read this.

Also just to clarify in Mango under settings, speech make sure enable speech recognition over the network is on. the very bottom option let's you choose when to use it via bluetooth is the default, but you can choose headset or all the time. basically it works the same way as voice to calling does. Hold down the windows key when the voice promt comes up say text then the contact, the robo chick will prompt you to say your message.

Voice commander - Silencing it!

The HTC voice commander, is there any way to stop it repeating what you said after you've spoken someones name or the application to load?
cheers guys
Could be wrong here, but I think it is prompting you to confirm that it has interpreted your command properly.
When I am making a call, it won't proceed until I have said "yes" after it repeats the contact name.

Start --> Settings --> Voice Command
(and FYI, it's Microsoft Voice Command, not made by HTC)
ok then cheers.
iv had a look under all the command settings and it doesnt say anywhere about turning the repeat off. With my command it beeps, then i say the name, then it calls. It doesnt wait for confirmation etc at all.
Doesn't cyberon have a program named voice commander?
I am fairly certain the original question was referring to Cyberon voice dialer. I don't think you would want to silence it since it is not always that accurate. It will repeat back to you what it "thinks" you said. This gives you the opportunity to cancel if it gets it wrong.
On the flip side, I discovered that if your phone is set to vibrate only, the speaker is turned off and the voice dialer is silenced... So there is at least one way to accomplish what you want.
My mistake, that does sound like Voice Commander. Not a big fan of that program...
Apologies guys, just checked the 'about' of it and it is Cyberon Voice Speed Dial.
Id still be interested in silencing it if anyone has any advice. I know its usefull hearing it back to you, but usually i say the name then lift my head to go about something else, only checking the screen top see if its a name iv had problems (voice) calling before.
That being said, are there any alternatives that are more popular? Iv had a bit of a look around but havnt found any other free programs that beat the standard voice dial.
Nothing free, but MS Voice Command is a good alternative. Cost's $40 or something like that but I am about to pull the trigger on it cuz Cyberon suks and has some kind of conflict with my bluetooth headset...
My vote goes to MS Voice Command also. I'm also rather fond of it repeating back to me what it's about to do, since it sometimes hears me wrong.
For people in the US on AT&T, the latest leaked WM 6.1 build has MS Voice Command integrated in to the ROM. Dutty used it as part of his Apr 09/16 release, so MSVC is already loaded and ready to go.
Is there a way to have the repeated command sent to the earpiece speaker rather than the speakerphone? I like to hold my phone up to my ear and forget sometimes as the speaker blasts away at my eardrum...
Been using it for a few days now and im starting to get used to the voice so guess ill just live with it.
Thanks for the help anyway guys

Anyway to change the voice that reads sms outloud?

You know the lady voice that announces when the battery is almost dead, when you get a text message and reads it to you and all the other stuff...is there any way to change that text to speech voice to a different female voice? I know there are several other voices that are available but not sure how it would be changed on wm 6.1
First off, what app is doing that for you?
huh???!!

Are you sure your using a diamond for that? I have used a diamond for months now and have not discovered that feature!! please provide further details as to what device you have and which country bought in etc.
interesting....
I think I know what he's talking about, which is he has MS Voice Command installed.
As far as I know, it isn't possible to change the voices on MSVC but if anyone can prove me wrong please do, as I'd love a different set of voices as well

He's talking about Voice Commander. When you receive an email / sms you can run it and say 'Read SMS' or 'Read Email' and it will read any unread emails /sms
Very handy, esp. when driving
I would also love to know how to change the voice though

Come on now, of course I know what freakin' phone I'm using. That's like asking someone if they know what kind of car they drive and if they are sure about it.
Here's what you do to enable it:
Settings>Voice Command>
Check 'Enabled'
Check 'Messaging', 'Status' & 'Phone' boxes
The go to 'Notifications' and check 'Announce notifications through device speaker or wired headset only'
[/LIST]
Those directions above will read out loud the person calling you when you get a call, the person who sent you a SMS and what the SMS says, will read to you any email including the sender and subject line, but not the email and will also notify you when your battery is gonna die.
Trust me, it's a major attention-getter when your phone reads a text message to you when it comes in and people around you are like wtf was that. Plus it's great if you are lying in bed or something and your phone is across the room...you can hear what the message says and whether or not it's worth getting out of bed for. :-D
But anyway, if anyone knows how to change the voice please respond. Thanks!
Voice Command isn't installed on all Diamonds as standard and as I stated, there is no way to change the voices, I have searched for this myself before with no luck.
cool!

This sounds like an excellent app! I tried locating it on my UK O2 spec diamond and could not find so if anyone has got a cab file please post. I will search google now and i'm sure i'll find it and post if no-one beats me to it.
Man i'm learning new sh!t about my phone everyday. Cheers guys i know i have not answered your question but you have helped me finding something new
nice one!
pretty sure you cant change the voice but i know there's a registry tweak to slow the voice down witch makes it easier to understand. I've just remembered I'm sure there's the tweak in Advance config hope this helps
yeah i have this enabled on my phone and its the best when your laying in bed and wonder if its worth looking at. I do wish it was a more sexier voice like sigourney weaver from planet earth, and a little slower would be nice. IT came stock on my sprint diamond fyi, im surprised other versions dont have it
I have a sprint diamond and mines only talks when someone sends me a text message marked urgent and thats it. I have all the tabs checked on VC in the settings menu. am I missing somthing?

You don't have it setup correctly, that's why.
Go into Voice Command and do this:
- Check all the boxes you want to use this service. (Phone, Messaging, Status, Etc.)
- Highlight 'Messaging' then click on 'Options' button then UNCHECK 'High Priority Messages Only' and CHECK 'Announce New Messages'. Do the same steps for others like 'Phone' and 'Status' to change it's options. Make sure you highlight it first.

Text-to-speech (TTS) SMS Reader (like Blue&Me®)

Hi, Folks,
I'm searching for a software to read the incoming SMS like the Blue&Me® by Fiat/Microsoft do.
I've found this app (TellMeText 1.1.0), but it has only one language (US English), and the language file is compiled with the executable app.
Anyone knows a app to do this function and a way to use the Gabriela Voice (Pt-BR) from iGo or something like this?
Thanks in advanced
If you have Microsoft Voice Command (MSVC) on your phone, you can set it to read incomming text messages, voice announce who is calling, and more Just be sure you really want it to do that before you turn it on.. It can be embarassing when someone TXT's you something questionable when you are in line at the bank or something... There is a feature where it will onyl read it when you have a bluetooth headset connection.. that is what I personally do...
I agree with Teej. I used the free/busy toggle cab to work around this. If I am not at work or somewhere I wouldn't want certain messages read aloud, I leave it free. If at work, I set it to busy. MSVC worked very well for me.
yes, MSVC is good, but reads the msg soooooo fast that you can berly understand what is happening. and the MSVC voice is sooo ennoying.anyway to fix it?

I haven't used it in a while since I am flashing roms constantly, but I know there is a registry hack where you can slow it down. Just Google it or search here. You can also edit voice recognition so that it is easier for it to pick up what you are say. Its a nice program, just very picky about installation and stuff so people don't like to always deal with it.
i just searched it, didnt find anything. prob didnt type the right info in search.
Is it any trouble if you can guide me ot the right path( regarding slowing the voice and voice recognition)
Appreciate it tilt4life2
this in an idea I like the sound of. Have you looked at the complete MSVC guide on this forum? It may hold a referance to the slowing down of the voices. Im guessing searching MSVC guide should find it or it may be linked in the Kaiser Wiki. Good Luck!
There is also TellMeText by Blondiesoft here and it's totally freeware:
http://www.blondiesoft.com/software/mobile/TellMeText/
It even announces the message before your notification goes off with its regular message tone.

Perhaps it has something to do with the threaded sms? I'm not sure. All I know is that it works fine on my TyTN II with WM6.0. In any event, I have decided to go with voice command instead.

Yes! the Kaiser Tweaks cab has the voice command settings in it. It's generically set to 4. Higher settings speeds the chick up, and lower settings slows her down.
Hope this helps.
You can search for Kaiser Tweaks in here to get the cab.
Cheers!

To change the voice's speed:
Go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Speech\Voices"
Change the value of "DefaultTTSRate" from between 1 (slowest) and 10 (fastest). Default is 4. Experiment to discover what is right for you.

okay i cant take it anymore!

i really like my eris... im a recent convert from win mo.. and there are a few things that i just cant take any more!... im sure they are able to be changed so lets see if any of you android wizz's can help me out here.
Slide to unlock: im really tired of making pocket calls from my phone unlocking itself i really like the idea of a keypad or pattern unlock that most other android operating systems have... this is my biggest problem, it really needs to be addressed. im a it professional and a fairly offensive person in my personal life the last thing i want to do is pocket call a customer while being super offensive.
Disabling htc apps: i really like handsent sms WAY MORE than htc's messaging application but i really hate getting multiple notifications that i got a text message. i just want to make it to where the htc messaging application is not running ever...
expanded speech to text: i really like the speech to text, ive seen some android os's that have the speech button on the on-screen keyboard, i have some applications that have expanded speech to text. how can i get the speech to text as a permanent option?
Slide to unlock: Settings -> Security -> Set unlock pattern
Disabling HTC messaging: Open Messaging, menu button -> settings -> Auto-retrieve off; Recieved Notification off
Speech to text options seem to be related to the keyboard, Getting a keyboard replacement that supports it should fix this issue, I hear Better Keyboard works, but I don't use it myself.
Alternately, get Swype. I spend less time typing with Swype than I do yelling at my phone trying to get speech to text to pick the right word.
thanks for solving my 2 largest issues, bug help...
Much Thanks

Over showthread.php?t=624416 jonasl has moded the default sense keyboard to have a smiley button, a speech to text setting that is fast and accurate, and A LOT more custom settings. It is by far the best and most customizable keyboard I have used for android.
If you decide to download the eris requires the Low Res version.
All cred to jonasl.

If you root your phone and use a froyo, android 2.2 rom the stock froyo keyboard has talk to text enabled from the get go and it's also very good. There are two at the top of the eris android development forum that are very stable. I personally recommend kaos froyo v24

yes, so what ..?
What's it not doing? Not announcing?
I played around with mine and eventually got it to work. For example I unchecked the "high priority only" on the message alert and got that to finally work. Not sure what constitutes a "high priority" other than any message from my wife, lol!
@RatRedux, thanks for your response! I just can't assign it to a button, also, I've the American version, and it can't really understand my British accent in most commands...how did you assign a button?
managed to remap the registry key as follows:
# Goto HKLM\Software\ Microsoft\Shell\Keys
* - Click Open Key named "40C6"
* - Change the 'Default' string name to "\Windows\Voice Command.lnk"
* - Now change the 'ResetCmd' string name to "\Windows\Voice Command.lnk"
Now close Registry, and go back to device and click the button on the top left side which is indicated by the 'Speak' Icon, and it should now work for you!

I only ever used voice commands with my bluetooth headset so I never bothered to set a button on the phone. It works most of the time but it doesn't help that my wife and neice and daughter and sister in law have similar sounding names so it occasionally wants to dial the wrong relative lol! I turned off the announce incoming calls since my Blueant T1 has it's own built in voice caller ID. Though I must admit the lady who lives inside my phone sounds a bit nicer than the lady inside the bluetooth!
We haven't figured out how to set up Google voice in my wife's Android phone so I must give my old "brick" (as my wife calls it) a nod since it worked right away even on my old junk headset.
