So i have used tango with a couple people and if i call someone with an iphone or 3g vzw android phone it works okay but when using it to call other thunderbolt people the audio cuts out 95% of the time and the other 5% there is major echo. the video quality is a bit jerky but okay but worthless if u cant hear what the other person is saying.. anyone else have that problem
I cant even get it to Work! Succs...
Any Idea Why?
I have the same problem when calling between my two Thunderbolts. I should try tango on my Xoom + Thunderbolt together and see if it works better, because it's unusable between my Thunderbolts. The audio cuts out horribly (though the video is okay with good lighting).

Is Tango the best/most popular app for video chat right now?

it works fine between mine and wifes thunderbolt i had a problem at first because the screen where it said register or skip, i skipped than the call would go through but she would not receive it so you have to do the text register and email register and it works fine now
I too have major audio issues when going from 1 TBolt to another, and looking for a fix. Skype video calling was a major original selling point of the phone to me. I'd like something that at least works until Skype video comes out.

I've had the same problem with my friend who has an Evo.
My wife and I have the same problems and I also ran into it when trying to do a video call with her uncle who has an Evo.
Hopefully Tango gets an update to fix this problem.
Tango is very buggy! my girl friend who owns an evo try to call me several times and the call didnt not go through! We both have full 4G signals and it still disconnect and poor sound.
I tried Fring and for some reason it will not use my front camera. My brother has iphone and it works fine for him--but he only sees my rear camera when we call each other even though I see his front camera. I have not tried Tango yet.
Just had a friend with an iphone call me using Tango; he was on wifi and i was on 3G. Worked well, but sometimes the voice would cut out if we both tried speaking at the same time.
I hate that the only people we can really use video chat with right now are iphone owners. Epic fail, HTC/Verizon/google.
Yahoo Messenger seems to work well. I used it last night, computer on the other end.

Ironic, isnt it?
QIK seems to be working for me. I just called my wife's MT4G and we video chatted just fine.
What i dont understand is why no program works for tbolt to tbolt video chat every program i try has a horrible feedback echo issue which isnt present if u video call any other phone.
So I figured I would add to this....
Tango has released updates in the past few days that fix the bugs, now we just have the microphone issues... For a great fix try muting the receiving unit's microphone until you speak... And vice versa.
Works great TB to TB, and is a nice workaround if you absolutely need the video chat like my business partner, who uses it to see his son!!!

So you can confirm it doesn't work on the Xoom?
Ya I can confirm ti doesn't work yet... seems to not be supported for 3.0 yet... but then again most devs are waiting for AOSP to drop so that can take advantage of integrating the Tegra chip fully
Prior to purchasing, I emailed the dev to confirm that it would work on my Xoom and was assured it would.
It took all of my 15 minute return window to get it set up and test it, only to find that it doesn't want to play nice w/my Xoom (it works well on my D1 though).
I have emailed the dev and they have had me send them logs from my PC and Xoom and assure me that they will get it working or they will refund me.
I really appreciates me some good communication!
Did they ever get it working? or give your $$ back... I really want to get this app but I've heard bad things about it on honeycomb/Xoom (is there a difference at this point?)
i have it and it works fine on the xoom. synch and resolutions issues, but no different from my nexus s
Seems to work...
http://www.sleeplessninja.com/?p=325
It works but performance is not what I would call stellar. There is significant lagtime for movements and the refresh rate is closer to a slide show than anything.
I have kept it because it does work and I am hopeful over time they will improve performance.
I'm not requesting this or anything; I'm just curious. Would it be possible to make Netflix work on our phone? Or what is it about our phones that makes it not work?
Thanks.
Whoa. Is netflix even on the android yet? Because that would be sweet.
Yeah it is, you can find the apk on XDA, but videos won't play on the Hero...you can browse the instant play queue, but that's it. I am trying a few of the widely talked about edits to spoof it into playing but no go on the Hero yet.
Tried:
ro.product.model=HTC Vision
ro.product.manufacturer=HTC
and
ro.product.model=Nexus S
ro.product.manufacturer=samsung
Neither worked for me...I get to where the video will appear to be loading, then the app kicks back to the main screen.
you would need flash 10 for netflix to dont u or do they have it mobile formated now.
I believe it's mobile formatted...it plays fine on my iPod Touch...

That's what I was thinking about trying too. I'm thinking the app itself needs to be changed somehow, but I'm a newb so it's just a guess. I don't know if it's even possible to do that.

^^^^^DOES NOT WORK^^^^^
im pretty confident it will not work on the hero ever same reason as flash, i know they said they would only be supporting new snapdragon processors due to some sort of DRM compliance
i am also pretty sure that it needs an ARMv7 processor for some sort of hardware acceleration much the same way flash does, so its going to be more than just some build prop edits
best chance of it working
drm.apk from evo
build.prop edit
alot of luck

That's what I've gotten so far. I only used the method in the description, and I posted above.
It just uploaded, so I don't know if it's public yet.
i almost wonder if it has something to do with it not really having a GPU thats all excuses though i honestly thought it was cause by what i posted so this is awesome proof of concept guys keep up the good work
Trying the Optimus' way now. Hopefully it'll work. I'd love to have this on my phone, even though it will overheat the heck out of my battery .
By the way, I'm on AOSPCMOD 4/29, and it worked with AOSP's other ROM for the Optimus V. But then again, they have a working screen on-off animation, and we don't .
That I am pretty sure is because of the gpu esp for how choppy they were when they do work

The following is a hack to get hulu.com working with the latest Adobe Flash Player 10.3.185.23 for the Motorola XOOM Tablet which consists of a hack of
/data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/libflashplayer.so by hex editing AND 10,3,185,23 to WIN 99,9,999,99 so it will work with HULU.
Using the apk - uninstall any existing Adobe Flash Player from your device before installing the new apk.
After you apply the above, to get this working, make sure to set your browser User Agent string to Desktop. With the stock Android browser and probably other browsers excluding the Dolphin browser, you might have to do this each time you run any flash based site including hulu.com or start the browser:

laggy / choppy playback??
Thanks for updating this, but am I still the only one experiencing very sub par playback (choppy/laggy) with this hack? I highly doubt it is my internet connection , so what gives?? I mean the hack works, but I would hardly call it useable by any means. I'd feel a little better if more people were experiencing the same thing.

Even though I am the author of this hack, I know what you're referring to since this hack originally was done for phone devices and while it works for everyone else and even others with the Motorola Droid 1, when I use it on the Droid 1, I have the same problem as you and not only that, the flash process will get killed with the browser after a minute or two. Are you using 3G or WiFi?

No problem BRD, I used to do only the libflashplayer.so hack for the past 6+ months and didn't know how to replace files in a apk and I didn't have a Xoom until the end of May so all modified apk's I have tested on my p3droid rooted stock ROM for the Motorola Droid 1 have always resulted in youtube and hulu acting as if flash was not installed, so for that, only replacing libflashplayer.so manually works. What's more funny is that even though I posted my libflashplayer.so on droid-life.com whenever there is a new version of flash, no one seems to recognize it until you made it available on the Xoom when it was mentioned on both droid-life.com and PCWorld. I usually will post the update within minutes to hours after I am aware of it which is usually within the same day except it's time consuming to be updating 1/2 a dozen threads on xda about the new flash with the hack after I test it on 3 different devices (Motorola Droid 1 using the libflashplayer.so, Motorola XOOM after patching and signing the apk with the libflashplayer.so after it works on the Droid 1, and then the HP eStation Zeen Tablet with both the market apk as it doesn't have market access and the libflashplayer.so) to make sure it works before releasing it to the world.

I only ever use wifi (I own a 3g model but do not have 3g activated). And my desktop imac uses the same wireless internet connection and the same hulu video is smooth and flawless, so my internet connection isn't the issue.
What is bugging me the most is that I've repeatedly made comments about the crappiness of the playback and yet virtually no one so much has acknowledged me. Making me feel as though I'm the one and only person having these problems...or that no one else is being even remotely critical of the video quality. To me, "just works" does not necessarily mean its worth using.
I don't have a Xoom, but a Nexus One. Performance has always been crappy on my device. Flash says the video has not been optimized for mobile. I tend to believe them. Looks like the video is not being hardware decoded for some reason or another.
any ideas why opera mobile might fail to recognize this? getting no flash at all, but it works fine with flash from market...

While a Desktop imac uses the same wireless connection, remember the processing power of a mobile device will still be lacking compared to a actual computer. Even though they might both be wireless, the wireless chipset makes a difference too when it comes to latency, etc since Broadcom used in the Xoom isn't exactly a good chipset when you compare it to things like Atheros, Lucent/Agere. My desktop being a Pentium 4-3.2Ghz is actually slower than my Xoom and even my Droid 1 because for whatever reason, in 2009, the hardware just started getting really sluggish so the only way to even play flash is to pause it until the entire video is in the buffer, this is on a 6Mbps ADSL connection which works without issues with even my friends Netbooks when playing flash. Do you have the same problem with the market version without applying the hack since I don't know what BRD modified in his hack but in mines, it's just the version string so everything else is untouched and it should work exactly the same since there is no reverse engineering of the code or decompiling involved. The Xoom atleast works in my case unlike my Droid 1 which is basically suffering from the same thing you claim except on the Droid 1, all of a sudden, it will just exit back to the home screen all of a sudden, no one else seems to have that problem either. Adobe Flash itself is a CPU resource hog and it seemed to be better when it was Macromedia Flash. Lots of people or the general public out there doesn't really know what quality is or they just don't have something of reference quality to compare it to. Same thing when people buy audio/video equipment, audiophiles/videophiles like myself are picky while some people out there will just think anything is good based on the pricing or how expensive something is.
I just got a SGS3 and I'm keeping my SGS for now. Any thoughts on some cool or useful things I could do with it now that I have my SGS3? I'm willing to try almost anything but I haven't thought of anything that I can't just do with my SGS3. I'll probably try put Jellybean on the SGS before I try it on the SGS3.
One idea is maybe use it for a webcam. I don't have a webcam right now so is there I way I can use the rear camera as a PC webcam?
Throw out some ideas. Keep in mind I don't have a data plan or voice plan for it anymore but wifi is an option still.
Thanks!

Clean flash and donate to a local charity of your choice
Why don't you donate it to a hardworking dev? I'm sure they could do something useful with the second phone.
The good first gen single core phones are starting to go off plan and turn up second hand. I picked up a Galaxy S Epic Sprint (the one with slider keyboard) last week at my favorite pawnshop for $60 mint, to mess with and use as a mini tablet. Apparently either the prior owner didn't deactivate it, or with Sprint (no sim card) once activated the phone works fine on wifi. First did factory reset, then rooted, now everything including GPS seems to work (other than the phone and cel data of course, at some point I'll install a Google Voice solution).
I'm using it as a middle of the night reader with a screen dimmer app. My wife has been bothered by the bigger screen lighting of the NC, so something smaller helps. Its a pretty good ereader/podcast player for this purpose. Lots of reader/news apps seem optimized for its WVGA screen, some have night mode. And I put a couple of games on it for the kids to use in the car instead of giving them my real phone.
Now I need to figure out something to do with the slider keyboard. Thinking maybe a remote keyboard app for the PC, anybody recommend an android app that will convert a slider keyboard to a remote computer keyboard through a network?
Hi,
Make a crach test movie
Regards,
I'd say put it away somewhere safe in case something happens to the S3 and you need a backup phone. That's what I'm planning to do with mine. My Galaxy S will be a backup and would be the one I would take on long hikes cause I won't be too bothered if I drop it, although I've kept it in mint condition.

Otherwise, I'd always planned that whenever I upgrade, I'd likely keep it for its amazing audio quality from its Wolfson DAC and Voodoo Sound; it's hands down the best portable music player I've owned. Plus, there was a good article on Lifehacker a ways back about people keeping older smartphones and iPod Touches with Skype on it to use as a 'house phone'.
