Is there any way to get a 2g/3g switch toggle switch built or made? I have enabled only the 850 mhz wcdma and gsm bands on my phone and would like to have an easy way of switching between the two. Any help would be appreciated.
Im running darkys rom with jl3 modem and onix kernal.

What about the apps in the Market to toggle 2g/3g ?? I did a quick search and I saw 5 or 6 right off... not sure if that is what u r looking for though. There are free and paid apps for u to choose from.

Hi, sorry for the seemingly noob question, i've done some searching online but have been unable to find out anything concrete. Is there any way to turn off 3g, and just use edge? Alot of the times i just need email or rss, don't need any crazy fast internet...
thanks in advance!
Settings->Wireless and Network->Mobile networks->Network mode -> GSM
Settings- wireless and network(the topmost) -mobile network (second to last) -network mode-then tick just gsm
Sorry my sgs is german so i had to translate the steps but i hope u know where to look

Thanks alot both of you! really appreciate it!
hi there, thanks again for the help last time, however it seems, now that i have enabled gsm, i can no longer enable 3g..
my only options when i look at network mode are:
gsm/wcdma (auto mode), gsm only, and wcdma only, these are the same as the options i had before, so i don't know why it doesn't connect to 3g now

what firmware are you running? have you updated to something other than a stock Bell ROM? there have been issues with some non-North American-based firmware with enabling the 850MHz band.
im running jpx?
it's darky's 6.0 rom, the weirdest thing is it was working prior to me switching to gsm only
should i just flash back to a bell rom? if so... which rom do you recommend? the eclair or froyo? thanks!

I am running froyo, but I have found that if you are running a non-Bell modem, then using the
Settings > Wireless > Mobile Networks > Network Mode
option to switch between 2G/3G doesn't enable the 850MHz band for 3G.
Recently I have flashed the Bell JK4 modem and don't have this issue any more (but strangely now the 900MHz band doesn't get enabled, but I don't need it here so I'm fine with it).
To check for yourself, assuming you don't have SGS Tools (which you should get if you don't) go into the phone dialer, and dial:
*#2263#
This brings up the band selection option. Then go into
[4] COMBI BANDS
and select
[8] WCDMA 850 ......
Then just back button out of there. You may have to cycle your radio by going into and then out of airplane mode to see the effect faster. Let me know if you then have 3G again.
Hi I recently flashed the serendipity rom and my signal strength has been fluctuating alot. After going into the service menu using *#0011# I can see that my bands keep switching between 850 and 1900. I would like to disable the 1900 band but cant figure out how. The service menu that im using does not give me any options to change anything. Can someone please tell me how to disable a band?
Thanks
*#2263#

Thanks but I know how to get to the service menu but I cant change anything. All I see there is the status of my phone. Where are the options to change?
Thanks I got it now.
On MIUI the phone app doesnt have *#2263# menu to set the radio band
Can someone tell me how to actually set the radio band to 850mhz..
In settings selecting 3G Only just results in No data connection.........
Afaik if you have 850 enabled before flashing MIUI, it will stay enabled.
There is no way to change the band from within MIUI/CM7.

I don't know how an unlocked phone works but I'd say download Phone Info from the market, open it, go to phone information, and set it to WCDMA Only for 3G, GSM Only for 2G, and LTE Only for 4G. Assuming you're on jellybean that is. If you're on ICS then search in either general or Q&A in the Atrix HD forums for a thread called build.prop and do the steps there.

I did exactly that before you replied. Works fine, saves battery. Thanks mate

Hi
If possible can you pls help me on this as I'm also facing the same issue with this device the method mentioned above doesnt seem to work on mine.
Thanks
Add APN or use app "Network"
I also wanted to shift to gsm network only to save battery.
I installed a app named "Network" by "Philipp Magelow" and changed the mode to "GSM Only" and later added a APN(which was not added by default)
Now I could access Edge data, which is sufficient for daily apps.

I would like my phone to be connected to 3g all the time in order to save battery... Is there any way to do this? Changing to gsm, CDMA in network settings still gives me hspa.
Thnx

HSPA is still 3G. If you want you can select to use GSM only and you will only get EDGE connectivity.
Dial *#*#4636#*#* , go to phone information, and there's a dropdown which by default says WCDMA preferred. Switch that to whatever else you need. Also, remember that this setting does not stick after reboot so you need to reset it to your preference each time after you reboot your phone.
Misread, sorry.
