Is it possible to change some phone setting so that my incoming MMS's get sent to the phone, rather than the crappy T-mobile message telling me to go online to view the MMS?
Ok, was a bit hasty with posting the question. Just found out that you have to first send an MMS through the network before the phone is capable of receiving MMS. Happy now.
that happens when you dont have the settings for MMS on your phone setup correctly, or you havent activated the service from your provider. Since I assume you did the latter, then you probably havent put the correct settings for the MMS for your provider. Check their website or give them a call for the correct settings, unless someone else lives where you do and could provide them to you...
Glad you fixed it. Just one more note..
Sometimes even with the correct settings it doesnt work. You need to go into t-mobile online and set your type of phone to nokia or something for it to work.

Just send an MMS to yourself/someone else and then T-Mobile know you have an MMS enabled phone. Otherwise they assume your phone is not MMS enabled.
Greetings,
I purchased an unlocked 8925/Tilt over the weekend and had great success using it immediately on the TMobile network. This morning I noticed my SMS messages would not send. I could receive messages, but got the dreaded "Your text message cannot be sent." dialog.
I've checked the SMS Service Center number (via Settings / Phone / Services / Get Settings) and from what I can find via google it appears to be right.
I last used the SMS yesterday about 7 PM and it was fine. This morning at 7 am it gave me this message and has continued for the last 4 hours.
Anyone have any thoughts??
Thanks!
UPDATE: As it turns out the phone WILL send the SMS messages, but only when I have connected to a voice call.
Did you try a soft reset?
SMS not sending
Thanks for the reply.
I should have stated... I have performed a soft reset as well as a hard reset. I have verified the SMS Service Center number is correct as well.
Anyone else ever run into this?
Here's a stupid question, sorry if it offends: Have you tried multiple recipient numbers, i.e. perhaps the one that is failing is due to the number you're sending to, not your device?
cannot send SMS
Not a stupid question. I've tried numbers on different carriers with no luck.
I've called TMobile, and they want to me to try my Sim in another phone which I will have to try later this evening.
Just thought it was strange that it worked fine, I went to bed, and it quit working. Perhaps the Sim card went bad. I've had it a long time.
Tilt cannot send SMS away from home area
After days of testing, hard resetting and scanning this board I appear to have come up with the solution.
I installed "Advanced Config", adding a button to the Comm Manager for 3G and disabling 3G. Not an issue for me as 3G isn't available on TMobile in my area.
If I continue to have trouble I will try replacing the phonesettings.dll and changing the phone band as mentioned in this thread.
Thanks to help from this thread:

I've been having a similar issue for the past 4 days. I'm using dutty's 6.1 rom. I used to be able to send/receive sms and mms messages. One day, mms messages wouldn't work anymore so I did the auto connection setup in the settings panel and it corrected the mms problem. However, sms messages can't be sent out anymore. I always get the message "Your text cannot be sent." I can receive sms messages but cannot send them out. I've tried searching the forums and it seems like others are in the same boat. There is a thread stating that I should turn off 3g in my comm manager, but it is already disabled. I've tried sending the text message with 3g on and off. It doesn't work no matter what. I've also trying to setting the band of the phone for gsm 1800 like another thread had instructed, but that doesn't work either. It isn't a sim card problem because I can put it into another phone and send and receive them just fine.
Some one help me, please!
anyone have ideas?
figured it out. changed the setting back to gsm mode. i must've changed it to gprs somehow.
I seem to be getting a notification to say I have a message but when I check the message it just says downloading. So I rang vodafone and got them to send me the APN details and re-entered them. Got my friend to resend the message and it worked.
The day after the same thing has happened - I have not changed my APN so not sure why this is happening. Standard messaging app on cyanogen latest. Did a bit of searching but all seems to be related to APN issues and activation which I know this isn't.
wtf
So the same person sent me an mms and it came through with the other one above it still saying downloading... :S
I have this problem recently also. He never got an answer. Is there a fix?
Edit: I came from a clean wipe and I'm using "Blue Magic MKllr1".
Same here, I have to turn my wifi on then I can download it which is strange because my internet is out but seems to trigger the 3g to download it not a fix by any means but it may help someone out.
And yes I have mms activated and all the rest, as the OP stated been there tried that apn wise and mine also went the same way, one day it work and next it didn't
This also happens to me... but it only happens when I get a message from a Verizon phone.
This is a strange problem, when I first flashed a ROM on my G1
I remember not having any data connection at all.
I had to use wifi for any data transfers, and to Sign in with Google.
Upon reboot though everything was setup right, you should check
if it's a bug with your ROM.
Still didn't fix. It's the same on edge, 3g and wifi.
I use to have this problem and it was frustrating to manually switch between using MMS APN and 3G APN. Try this....
in Your 3G APN, under the APN type, type in "default"
in Your MMS APN, under APN type, type in "mms" and make sure your "Proxy" and "Port" settings are also entered under MMS proxy and MMS port.
After putting these things in, I can automatically switch between MMS and 3G and the downloading will actually start downloading and not just remain stagnant with nothing to show. Hope this works.
Sorry if it does not because I am not in the States. But let me know how it goes
I didn't know the apn settings for U.S. T-mobile so I tried a work around that worked! i flashed the base htc rom, then newest cynagen, then fastest 3.0.3, then Blue Magic MKllr1, then metamorphed an expresso theme. All no wipe. MMS works! I still would love to know what goes wrong from one rom to the next.
I apologize for reviving an old thread but from a quick search, I didn't see anyone with the solution I figured out.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S 4G on TMO and this same exact thing happened to me. Someone sent me a picture MMS and it got stuck on downloading. I tried enabling and disabling Wifi, made sure I had 4G, etc.... Nothing worked. The MMS they sent me still said "Downloading" and was stuck. There was no way to abort/redownload/etc. Meanwhile, I could send/receive other MMS just fine.
Finally, I tried going into the messaging settings and disabling auto-retrieve. When I went back to the thread, lo and behold, there was now a download button!! I hit it and presto, the MMS downloaded!
Hope someone finds use from this.

Thanks, had this issue on my Samsung Mesmerize and found this thread googling. worked for me.
Thank You sooo MUCH! this was annoying the heck out of me, but your method fixed it:}
Another bump, this was the fix. I had data disabled to save battery when an MMS came in. It was forever "downloading". Data on/off, reboot phone, didn't matter. Flipped it to manual download, turned on data, and hit download. It came right through.
hmmm
Im on a rogers.captivate running apex 11 i believe. None of these fixes worked for me.
same here: i'm on 4.0.4 AOSP (although a samsung note, but as said: AOSP)
and a mms from a girl-friend is stuck with "downloading". none of the above will make the "downloading" disappear. sending and receiving of other mms work fine. guess i have the same issue with the initially wrong APN settings!
anyone has an idea how to reset the downloading?
I know its an old thread but if anyone searches to here....go into settings and uncheck auto download mms...then go back and there will be a download button, click it and boom...itll start downloading. Then go back and recheck auto download.
Can't receive mms attachment pics with Inspire 4g after full wipe

Disabling the auto-retrieve definitely works! Thank you. I was having trouble getting all of the pics my wife was sending me
the guy that flashed my phone told me that as of april 30, boostmobile is phasing out mms and gps to many 3g phones. unlucky for me the rant(my donor phone is on that list) i contacted him after i havent been able to send or receive mms. my gps works fine. i searched google and here for any info on this, and couldnt find anything he also said the only why to get mms back on is to get a new donor(incognito). i would like to know if this true.
2ndly can any one help or point me to info that will get my mms working again. i have tried the ##3282# to edit advance method. but i cant find mmsc(or anything close to that) to change to mm.myboostmobile.com. I went to my stock messaging-mms setting and it has the mm.myboostmobile set already. also went to mobile network setting but "access point names" cant be selected. please help anyone.
so i spoke with customer service and its true they have discontinued multimedia for the rant and other nonandroid/smart phones. he gave me 50% off on any smart phone on boostmobile.com but he said the incognito is nonsmart and cant get mms either. anyone have there htc one flashed? does your mms still work? is there anyone with input or suggestions? help
Hey all,
Recently, my Galaxy will not download any sort of MMS messages, whether they be picture messages or part of group messages. The message will just be a pending download for a minute or two, then stop and say "Error: network error occurred". I have contacted AT&T tech support many times, where they reset my phone's connection to the network. I will get exactly two MMS to come through and then the problem starts again. Every third MMS, I have to contact tech support again.
My phone is rooted with towelroot, but I noticed the problem before I rooted it. Any suggestions on what this might be? I'm about at the point of trying a factory restore on the phone to see if it fixes it, but I'd rather not if at all possible. Thanks!
Try setting the apn for the phone. After installing a ROM from the international S5 my phone wouldn't download MMS. I fixed it by setting my apn.
