Not getting 4G in a 4G area? - Motorola Droid Bionic

I am getting 1.3 on speed tests, does the Bionic have a 4G indicator? All I see is 3G in the top bar.
The card is in correctly, it is activated, I can make calls, browse the web, but no 4G and I am in a RED coverage area. Other phones get 4G here...
any ideas? Something I forgot to do?

Yes it should say 4g. Go to wireless settings and mobile network and force it to 3g and then back to auto and see if that helps.

i am in a full 4g area (not extended coverage area), the best speed i have seen on 4g using the speedtest.net app is 1500 kbs, more typically it is around 1000 kbs. 3g tops out at about 400 kbs, so at least 4g is a little faster :-(

Thats really odd, my Bionic is getting better speeds then my Charge did by a little bit. Try turning off the phone and pulling the battery. If that does not help try a factory reset and let it re activate.

Just spent 30 minutes with technical support, they said it should be working, they suggested I go to another area with 4G coverage and try it.
I will be doing that later.
They said if I still get no 4G when others do, it's my phone and I'll need to return it.
I will update this thread in case anyone has the same issue.
Troubleshooting was:
Power Down Phone
Take Out battery
Remove Sim
Wait a minute
Put it all back together
Then same thing while being reactivated by tech.

wow, 4g is absolutely amazing (20 Mbs download)...about one mile from my house, apparently i live in a HOLE even though Verizon's 4g coverage map says otherwise
gormly - have you tried connecting to 4g from different locations? might be worth a shot if you haven't

AT&T N1 Anyway to turn on or enable HSPA?

Just got my ATT N1 and was wondering if there is any way of turning on HSPA? I just got my Telus droid last week and that has HSPA and i like how fast it is...The milestone shows 3g and H when downloading. how can i enable the N1 to to d/l on or show the H? Thanks in advanced...
Also is anyone having reception issues...on the N1 im having 2-3 bars when my droid and 3gs is full bars...if so i hope there is also a fix for that...
perhaps the nexus doesnt have a HSPA icon and just displays a 3g one in its place, easiest way to know is download a SPEEDTEST app and check your data speeds.
i had the droid myself, just sold it. and got the nexus, the droid showed HSPA since thats prob available in Canada, not in US. So it was essentially what i described above
if i understand right its that u cant, the N1's 3g wasnt built to work with atts 3g so your only ever gonna get half of the 3g through att, so no hspa on Att, could be wrong though.

the nexus does have a hspa icon. its in the screenshot. you need root and a custom rom to enable it

The factory ROM doesn't show an H, it uses the 3G icon for both.
You can look in the settings to see if you're on HSDPA or not when downloading.

the rom's are personal preference. I personally use cyanogen as it has everything i need right now.

any1 else seeing a difference in download speedtests recently?

in the austin, tx area i normally have been getting around 700-800 from home and 400-500 from work using xtremelabs.
out of nowhere starting yesterday i started hitting around 1.6-1.7 from home and around 1.5-1.8 from work.
anyone else noticing a difference?

Well I know T-Mobile is rolling out full HSPDA in some area's. So might be why you are getting a boost in speeds. With 2 bars of 3g signal im getting 761 down 709 up. And I am in the 1B floor of a big building.
ok something isnt right here.....downloaded the speedtest.net app.
this is after a reboot:
Test Date: Jun 4, 2010 8:51:10 am
Connection Type: Cell
Download: 4009 kbps
Upload: 1580 kbps
Ping: 82 ms

i'm not gonna argue it. even if these speedtests are totally off i definately am noticing a difference
It's just a good HSDPA speed. If you weren't seeing it before - it means you have never been near HSDPA-capable base station.
I'm from Austin too...and just like you I was only getting 6-700 down and 2-300up. Now 2.19mb down and 1.3-1.4mb up. That's with only 2 bars here at work now. I'l go out side later and test. I get full bars out side and at home.
Your speeds are what I see everyday here on ATT in socal, so your area prob just got upgraded. But your ping certainly is impressive.
Yes, faster in Houston
Yesterday I noticed my speed was very fast here in Houston on T-Mobile 3G. I didn't think much more about it until about an hour ago and realized it was really fast. I did a speedtest and was pleasantly surprised. I'm getting great download speeds! I knew they were rolling out 4g in the Austin area but I wasn't expecting it here in Houston.
I used to range from 400 - 800 (using the latest froyo radio on 2.2). Today, I'm getting 1141 - 3500! I'm so happy.

Canadian Note4 LTE performance. Rogers, Bell, Telus.

First off I'm in the GTA of Southern Ontario. I've used/tested tons of phones from the Captivate up to the Note4 on different carriers from London to Ottawa.
I've done posts before too but like to see the change over time and I have to admit the major carriers here have expanded quite well over the past few years and the performance has been incredible.
As well, it is true that the phone itself and it's hardware really affects what kind of DL speeds you will get.
I'm mostly on Rogers in the Toronto area and have got some amazing speeds (on certain towers). There really is a massive difference from area to area and tower to tower.
I could give you the top ten towers that easily get over 100+ mbps and probably would do 250+ once the carriers activate the latest cat6 LTE.
******
So post some of your experiences and screenshots of speed tests. What carrier and general area if wanted. I use apps that tell me the exact tower I'm connected to. Your signal level too if wanted.
All of my crazy high tests are (obviously full signal bar connection) but I check actual number level and try to be between - 60 and - 77 dBm. Keep in mind most phones hit 4 bars at - 85 (lower the better.. - 50 being perfect) although the Note 4 uses a slightly different scale.
Here are a few tests I did recently on a couple (really good) towers around me.

FYI.. I find the Ookla Speedtest.net app is the best but keep in mind that top performance changes from server to server and time of day.. As well, be aware that when blazing over 100+ mbps you will use up 115+ mB's per test!
Here are the better more consistent servers I use for top tests.
For Toronto - Start and Nexicom seem to be best.
Montreal has several good ones but Fibrenoire is typically amazing.
Speedtest.net in Washington used to be poor.. Strange as it's their testing app and would figure it would be tops but now is much better. I can get 100+ often.
Georgian college in Barrie is usually good as is TowerStream in New York.
Bell/North Bay, Lightspeed/Canton, TimeWarner/Syracuse and University of Flint all can go 100+ too but are sometimes much lower at points during the day.

Where? And wow I guess I do need an upgrade. Regular 4g is slow compared to that!

Use DL Booster and you can see speeds like 75+ Mbps! Depends on Wifi+LTE speed though.
are you in a wideband area or is this only with the download booster (wifi+lte)
I was actually able to hit 100mbps on the T mobile network no download booster on speedtest. Ya i know doesnt mean much without a picture but I'm at work. Either way I was amazed

Jeeze, the most I have ever gotten on Tmo in my entire life is like 30mbs down, lol.. is that a constant speed?
100mbps? I'd have to see it to believe it. I have gotten over 50 before, but nothing close to a 100. I have gotten over 75 with Verizon. Honestly, it's fast but not like a huge difference from 30 imho.

Here you go I was blown away. My T-Mobile service has been better where I live than my Verizon service stronger signal and faster data.
I couldn't figure out how to upload a picture so here's a link from my result that I shared to Ookla. In that area it was pretty constant between 80-100mbps. At home I only get 10, but that's about as low as it gets in my area.

Well, I guess I shall eat crow. That's impressive!

Could someone please explain to me what is going on. Last year when my network was only offering 3g I was getting 15 to 28mbps in the same area. This year I have 4g and I receive maximum of 4 to 12mbps. Thank you

when your network is busy, your speed gets slowed down. usually its slower in the day, and faster at night. anyways, it has nothing to so with your n6. it all has to do with your network. I get 60mbps near home, and 5mbps near work.
Giffgaff speeds are identical if not slower in my area.

If you take a look at the screenshot it shows you as being on HSPA, which is 3G. So there is definitely a network issue in your location. You would know if you were on LTE, as the network indicator on the phone would read "LTE" instead of "H" or "H+", and LTE speeds would be around 50 down and 10 up.

I don't know who your network provider is but I haven't seen LTE speeds of 50 down since the launch day of the HTC Thunderbolt on Verizon. Network quality has severely degraded since then...
I didn't save the test results from when I got the 50/10 result, and I should have. Below is what I just got from a test. Are those numbers typical?

typical is what you would normally see. and typical doesn't exist, since we all see different data speeds throughout the day. again, it all depends how busy your network/tower is at the time. again, I see speeds up to 60mbps download, 30mbps upload. and also, I see speeds of 5mbps download, 5mbps upload. that's a big range isn't it? but its like that every day, depending where I am and what part of the day it is. that's typical.
---------- Post added at 01:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:41 PM ----------
I had a terrible ping on that test, which is why I only got 30 down and 10 up. However, even a better ping doesn't always help. Running a couple of tests on different servers just now resulted in lower speeds than 30/10, which means more people using the network. The question of typical comes up not only because the poster prior to you doubted that I received 50/10, but because I never had a device with working LTE until the Nexus 6 and didn't know what to expect.
