i go a used D3 yesterday. a factory wipe was done, and it was already rooted for me. i rerooted it because i did not see superuser. i am running adw witch does run better then stock launcher but the phone over all is really laggy, kinda like my droidx on froyo was...
this is why i wish i had an SBF for 959, aside from a factory reset again, is there anything in i can do to try and make this run better? im wondering if it is slow because of something the previous user did? and the camera takes AT LEAST 6-7 seconds to load up EVERY time, and it takes for ever to get into focus sometimes...i hear great things about this phone, but so far im not inpressed at all..
thx all
The camera does open very slow. The phone shouldn't be lagging though. Only problem I ever had was with stock launcher. Don't know why this is happening to you.

Check your apps, might have a strange one.
Sounds like something is chewing up your CPU, restart phone and then do some tests and benchmarks, see if your getting average Droid 3 performance. This phone is faster then Tegra phones in most cases including games.
when we get some roms, kernel tweaks and cm7 then this thing will fly.

By the time we get CM it will be CM8.

I ended up going through almost every app i had and checking the refresh intervals to make sure it was limited. also i would limit the accounts you have synced and if you can use the 3rd party apps so you can get better control over how it behaves vs. letting motorola settings take over.
I've had mine for about 24 hours and it doesnt lag processor wise, of course without 4G some of the higher quality data transfer will be slower.

I have noticed that when I click a button, I usually have to wait from 1-2 seconds before I get a response. Would lagfix take care of this? I'm running stock Froyo.
As many have stated all the lagfix does is help fix the very slow rts file system, it most likely would not help in your case.
Best thing to do is delete unused apps, and reboot the phone every day or to(seems to help mine out, cant guarantee results)
Also if you havent needed root in 5 months you probably don't need it
Unless you want to use opitimised roms, I dont see why you would need to root. Check your memory usage delete unused apps and reboot the phone ever once in a while.
My honest opinion, no reason to have an android phone if you are not using roms

Gonna have to agree with mcord here. had to go back to stock froyo for about 5 hours (didnt have all my tool to get back my 2.3.4 ROM) and it was horrible.
you might not be up for it but i really recommend flashing a Froyo Custom ROM from one of the xda DEVs. you'll love your phone and be amazed that it can be so much smoother and responsive.
First thing I did after i rooted was flashed a new kernel to overclock. Performance increased but battery life was poor. Then my first rom was cm7..been hooked since..tried miui once then went back to cm7.

No a Benchmark score is not the best example to lag fix your phone ,but the more power you get, plus better battery life and, better perrformance are great reasons to lag fix your phone. I just posted the quadrant score so kb0npw can see the increase performance from normal rfs file system to ext4(lag fix).

I dont think he thought it meant everything, he was giving a simple before and after which showed some improvement. Quadrant can actually be pretty useful when trying to gauge what effects certain changes have on your phone, say you score a 1900 before you change 'x' and then 2200 after that change, then you know its increased performance somewhat and youre moving in the right direction. How much it has increased your performance is debatable, however. My point is quadrant can be a useful tool when making changes on your phone if you take it with a grain of salt.
EDIT: To answer op's question, Read up on some custom roms and flash one, the difference is phenomenal and you'll wonder how you went 5 months without them. If you have any other questions feel free to pm me and I'll see what help I can be

Well I'm on cm7 and 1.1.5 (I've not noticed any difference between 1.1.4 and 1.1.5), and I get two days on a charge. I don't have facebook/e-mail or many other app syncing and I don't turn it off at night or anything like that.
I've seen people saying they get longer on a single charge but then you usually find out they're switching it off or putting it on airplane mode over night or something.

Just wipe everything in recovery. When I installed CM7 after a few minutes it automatically started downloading my apps I'd had previously installed. There were a large chunk it didn't work on but they showed up in My apps in the market so I could just click on to download again.

no. the key here will be the right amount of under volting. dont go berserk. just reduce it to a small amount and check. minus 25-50 seems fine.
Use incredicontrol to undervolt to -75 and change wifi sleep policy in advanced setting to never. Did this with cm7 and got great battery life. Now using miuiandroid im at 70% after 19 hours of medium usage. It's amazing. No lag what so ever. Don't use tiamat 1.1.5 though, use 1.1.4, way more optimized.

yes tiamat 1.1.4 performs better than 1.1.5.
however you can try lord clockan's cm7 kernel. some users have found it even better than tiamat.

This phone sucks at multitasking. Galaxy S2 has a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor as well, but it multitasked with ease. This phone feels like an old person that's gonna croak over and die whenever I multitask things. Ex: I'd be downloading an app and go to my messages to read a new message. The phone lags like hell before it opens the message.
The only reason I haven't traded it or sold it is because the only phone I'd consider purchasing right now is an iPhone 4s. I agree android is a bit better but I got bored of it.
But the multitasking problem is the main reason why I dislike this phone (aside from locked BL and and 3 giant buttons taking up the screen.)

I've had this issue on stock, joker and batakang.
I haven't noticed at all...
Personally, the ENTIRE time I've had my Atrix, I never noticed any multitasking lag...
Then again, it all depends on how you use the phone in the first place...
I mainly download, tweet, listen to music and (attempt to) clear the MGS VR missions on mine and I can switch back and forth rather smoothly...
the phone lags when trying to do more than one thing at a time, on any rom.
yes the phone sucks.

Have you frozen most, if not all the stock bloatware, have a static wallpaper (nothing that moves), doth thou use task killers?
Oh and what's your usual CPU usage? (What's your hourly average... guestimate if you have to...)
I used pimp my rom and set the oom values to medium and used greenify to hibernate apps and my phone is running great.

Then we do most of the same. If I download an app (let's say Firefox mobile.) I'd go back to twitter, but it'd take a while for twitter to come back up. Even if I don't clear my recent apps, it will still lag when I'm on there.

It would only get laggy if you have a ton of "recent apps"...
I usually keep 5~7 apps recent and clear away the apps I don't need to keep "recent"
Oh and you could use greenify too while you're at it...

I buyed my AHD at 250$ factory unlock on kijiji in very good condition and for the price I think its a very verry good phone I was going to buy a one S at 320 when I saw this phone . Now Im so happy with it no lags at all. If someone unlock the bootloader it will be a purchase of gold

I never said I used all that
I just use Greenify and switch between a static and live wallpaper all the time... (I'm very indecisive...)
All I did was mention various tactics to to help... Oh and to mention that task killers are bad... Just the usual stuff...
I've tried using greenify and can't get much out of it because you cant do anything with system apps.
That's why you pair it with other battery saving apps like juice defender...
IMO I used JD's Extreme Settings, and just go with that and greenify.
I haven't charged from yesterday, leaving about 53% (I had 55% at midnight, left wi-fi on...)
I've watched Skyfall (in glorious HD) with wi-fi on in the background, and I'm about to start the last Ninja VR Mission for MGS with 32% left.
No Lag, No Issues. If people still insist on complaining about the phone, so be it. This phone is a diamond in the rough, you have to be the one to make it what is.
I feel like the device is much snappier. I heard battery is supposed to be better with it as well but I can't confirm. The xda app was never the best , now it is almost fluid o.o. or at least noticeably better. What do you have to say ?
i was told to add this:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/1qbko3/art_broken_apps/
edit: I would like to add that the apps i notice this most is for instance, when i use hangouts and i'd right ALOOOOOOOT with someone and then scroll up at a fast rate, it would stutter. Now, this stutter is nearly gone.
XDA - xda app is one of the most noticeable, stutter has been reduced by such a large margin that you'd have to try it yourself to believe it.
G+ would have the occasional hickup when scrolling through news posts. Next stop would be the play store, it used to stutter a lot as well, now it's become a lot better. Just for the hell of it i compared it to my sister's note 2 and the difference is there.
I doubt this is a placebo effect, i'm even considering to make a video as proof with dalvik on and off for the hell of it.

Well, it's kind of obvious, if you want the best experience for now you're going to want to go with the official 4.4, since the developers need their time to work their magic.
I have no crashes, i'm using ART so far cause i could care less about what's app. I'll report in about battery life observations once i've at least had this thing running for a whole day.
Feels really smooth so far; don't use any apps that crash(thankfully) on ART. Hard to tell with the battery as I came off a custom kernel that was picked for low power usage. Like with any new firmware, it usually takes a few days of my phone running before I can really judge things. Got to give all the apps running a little time to muck things up to get a solid feel for real world performance; but I'm hopeful from what the past few hours performance/battery wise.

Could this just an elaborate hoax to test the placebo effect of Android optimization? I don't understand the true potential if it.
