Do you have any kind of wi-fi problems (yes, no)?:
Yes
type of problem (disconnects, can't connect, etc)?:
dis-/reconnect every few minutes without the use of Wifi Static
version of GingerDX in which you have problems?:
v009, v010, v011, v012, v013 (at the time of writing)
previous ROM you installed (before GDX):
Stock Elcair 2.1.1.A.0.0
FroyoBread v020 through v023b
Brand/model of router in which you have problems?:
D-Link DWL-2000AP
TP-Link WR841N
others at public places I cannot identify
Router mode (in which you have problems) (b,g,n,all):
- DWL-2000AP: B/G - G-only - B-only
Channel 6
WPA2-PSK, 21 char passphrase
- WR841N: B/G/N, B/G
Channel 1
WPA2-PSK, 21 char passphrase
Did you remove all saved networks?:
Errr... Initial FroyoBread v023b -> GDX v009 update resulted in a cleared network list
Are you using ax8netfilter module?:
Nope, didn't install/configure such a thing
Are you using any tethering apk from market?:
Nope, didn't install/configure such a thing
Governor you are using (ondemand, kickass, etc):
Ondemand
Are you using Overclock module?:
Nope, didn't install/configure such a thing
Are you using Undervolt module?:
Nope, didn't install/configure such a thing
Did you do a wipe (full, davlik, none)?:
At the initial v009 install... about... 5 times full-wipe while I tried to resolve the issue
With the subsequent updates from v009: no full-wipe's anymore; just the default wipes of the update itself
Phone model (E15a,E15i):
E15i
Did you try static IP? Did it help?
Using Wifi Static to assign a static IP to the corresponding access point...
Yes, this workaround solved the dis-/reconnect problem for the time being
(though it's unconvenient to assign a profile for each and every public wifi I may use)
What is your "wi-fi sleep policy"?:
Never, I disable/enable Wifi myself
Comments: I already posted a very extensive testing scenario here
Overview of applications installed that are NOT part of GingerDX's default set:
Adobe Reader, AndFTP, AndroIRC, AndroMote, AndSMB, Barcode Scanner, Dictionary.com, Dropbox, GMarks, Google Sky Map, Google+, GPS Status, gReader Pro, KeePassDroid, Leo Dictionary, Google Maps (Market version), QuickSSHd, Root Explorer, Skype, SMS Backup+, TeamViewer, Google Docs, Titanium Backup, Trillian, Google Translate, Urban Dictionary, VPlayer, Wifi Static, XDA App
Apart from that I also configured my device for SIP calls and enabled "Receive calls" despite the "Increases battery usage" warning.

@B.Jay, you are my man.
same answers for me, only the router is a TP-Link WR541G.

yes. im 100% positive as i have relfahsed many roms many kernels.
Just to be clear, you did wipe after all those?
Also it never hurts to go back to stock as a test. If wifi fails under stock conditions it's a hardware problem and should be covered under the warranty.

Openvpn on note?

Does anybody use openvpn with abyss kernel (3.6 in this case)? I have never used openvpn for Android and when I activate it, it gives me the error message below:
"Failed to load tun module. Device node /dev/tun/ or dev/net/tun did not show up."
I have the certs and Conf files in the openvpn folder, busybox installed, and according to the openvpn installer, openvpn is installed. I'm using abyss 3.6.
Can anybody tell me what I'm doing incorrectly or what I have failed to do?

faced similar kind of problem when using abyss... restarting the phone helped it somehow and started working again... but my stock rom worked without any problem... download tun.ko app from market and try to install your tun module again... ticking insmod option in advanced settings also might help....

My config for Abyss 3.7
In openVPN Settings -> Advanced:
- 'Load tun kernel' module activated
- 'TUN module settigns' -> 'Load module using' set to insmod
- 'TUN module settigns' -> 'Path to run module' set to /lib/modules/tun.ko
Hope it helps

Thanks for the ideas. For some strange reason it still won't work. I'm using abyss 3.7 as well and everything is installed and in the proper places.

old problem, I also tried to fix it but never found a solution. Also would like to have it working.
On older rocketrom versions I was able to connect to my openvpn server (or at least it seemed that way as openvpn showed me as connected and with no errors) but when I tested the connection my IP was still my own and not the one from the vpn server I was supposedly connected to, so I dun think it was really working
A quick summary about my openVPN installation
This is how I installed openVPN on Rocket ROM 22 with Abyss 3.7 (log enabled version, I don't know if it matters).
Maybe something it's different from what you did, or you see anything that can help you to solve your problem.
Download from market (sorry, I can't post links) openVPN Installer and openVPN Settings (Friedrich Schäuffelhut versions). I didn't download any other additional app, library....
Install openVPN with openVPN Installer. During installation set
- target directory to /system/xbin
- ifconfig route to /system/xbin/busybox ifconfig (recommended)
In openVPN Settings:
- 'Load tun kernel' module activated
- 'Path to openVPN binary' set to /system/xbin/openvpn (this was the default setting)
In openVPN Settings -> Advanced:
- 'TUN module settigns' -> 'Load module using' set to insmod
- 'TUN module settigns' -> 'Path to run module' set to /lib/modules/tun.ko
Copy ovpn config files, certificates, etc to your route and ready. With this setup openVPN is working ok for me.
I just had some minor "issues", but I think they're related to mi ovpn config not with the tun module.
1. I had to change some data in ovpn config files, but it's due they were ubuntu ready...
2. I need to apply the 'Fix DNS' option in openVPN Settings. If not applied browser can't solve urls.
Finally.. I have tested openVPN only over 3G connection. This setup is working too on Criskelo ROM.
First, thanks for the thorough explanation. I just flashed chrack v13 and tried both FM 2.0 and abyss 3.7 with success
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
waaaaa I finally got openvpn to work xD
I got the tun.ko installer from the market, it downloaded the correct module onto /months/sdcard/tun.ko then I used that path in the advanced settings of openvpn and voilá xD it's working! xD

[Q] Change I/O scheduler

Hi,
I'm running stock 2.3.6 (rooted). By default phones uses "deadline" I/O, but have also "noop". How can I choose "noop" using the terminal? I've tested cpu frill but i'm getting a error.
In few words.
What are the commands to uses "noop" and the one to "deadline", if I wish to go back.
BR.
commands are different
you can try nstools app
it will do the work

Tested nstools. It keeps reverting to deadline after reboot. Don't know why, but from all the scripts that I've inside /init.d (with the right permissions) the only that works is the Link2SD.
stock roms don't have init.d support by default
so just untick the use init.d option available in setting tab of nstools
and your settings would be sticked to what you choose even after a reboot
What you can do is wipe cache/dalvik cache from custom recovery and then trying nofrills again

[Q] Wifi Tether on Avatar nightly 4.0.12 for Bionic (targa)

Title says it all.
I wiped cache, dalvik, and system before flashing using safestrap 3.62 or 3.65 (whichever is latest, I updated today). Everything went smoothly after I figured out I had to boot the system first, then reboot into recovery, then install gapps (using the one linked from the nightly release post in this forum).
I need tethering, as my phone is my only internet connection. Wifi tethering for root users starts, with errors, says it got permission (twice) but puts out no SSID, in spite of the green icon being lit.
Is there a hidden toggle somewhere in Avatar ROM that I need to know about?
Posting this from my Bionic with 20-month-old Eclipse release, that works PERFECTLY
Thanks in advance!
You don't need a wifi tether app. Just go to settings > wireless & network > more... > tethering & portable hotspot > set up wi-fi hotspot

WiFi and Bluetooth won't turn on on any kernel and firmware (stock / custom)

Hello,
today I was working with my Xperia Z (C6603) and flashed a CM12 build. After having some problems with TWRP, I solved it in the end an TWRP and CM12 were working fine. But WiFi and Bluetooth won't turn on anymore. When I press "turn on" it takes some time and then the switch turns off again. A MAC address is not shown anymore. I tried to flash stock firmware with Flashtool, but didn't change anything.
Can someone help me to solve this? Is my phone partially bricked?
Thanks a lot!
Some update as I try to find the problem. I looked into logcat and only find this info when I try to turn on WiFi:
Code:
D/WifiService( 814): setWifiEnabled: true pid=1072, uid=10008
E/WifiStateMachine( 814): Failed to load driver
And when I try to execute wpa_suuplicant manually with "/system/bin/wpa_supplicant -Dnl80211 -iwlan0 -c/system/etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf"
Code:
I/wpa_supplicant( 9440): rfkill: Cannot open RFKILL control device
E/wpa_supplicant( 9440): Could not read interface wlan0 flags: No such device
E/wpa_supplicant( 9440): Could not read interface wlan0 flags: No such device
E/wpa_supplicant( 9440): wlan0: Failed to initialize driver interface
Anyone? Just a hint to narrow down the problem?
Hi,
I have similar problem. My WiFi stopped working out of the blue.
I am quite sure I didn't changed anything. System crash occured when I was switching from Airplane mode to Normal mode (this usually turns WiFi on, if it was activated (and then deactivated) in Airplane mode). Then I got stucked in bootloop. Wiping dalvik-cache helped, but it was not the cause. At first, bluetooth was crashing too, but now it seems it works.
In *#*#INFO#*#* I can see
Code:
Supplicant state: UNINITALIZED
. LogCat issues are almost the same.
I've tried factory reset, but it didn't solved the problem. I've checked permissions, reflashed wifi-modules, tried WiFi Fixer app, reinstalled kernel, flashed another kernel, checked the wpa_supplicant.conf…but it still doesn't work.
EDIT: Oh, I forgot to mention my device: Xperi Mini St15i (Smultron), rooted, unlocked bootloader, Stock ICS ROM (only de-bloated, it worked until now) 4.0.4, build number 4.1.B.0.587. I've used kernel Kappa v1.6, but after the error occured, I tried switch to Rage kernel v2.32.
EDIT2: I've tried to restore original hosts, wpa_supplicant.conf, modules, wifi/*, etc....almost everything and nothing helped. I've flashed original stock ROM (you can find flashable stock ICS ROM for st15i here). I still don't know what happend and I'd like to know it. Hope I'll never see this problem again…
