Fresh from the eris to the og droid - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

I'm running cm7 rc1, I've tried some ultra low, low, and medium voltage kernels from both cor and chevy but haven't found a custom kernal that will run stable. I've also tried the supercharger script, underclocking with setcpu, and using autokiller, but I can not, no matter what I try, keep my phone out of a low memory state and battery life that will last me longer than 5 and if I'm really lucky 8 hours. I'm not using any widgets, I keep wifi, 3g, and gps off most of the time, and have 1/3 of the apps I had on my eris loaded on the phone, all on the sd card. I've tried to recal the batt. but I think the process must be diff for the driod and haven't found a decent guide. Could anyone point me to a decent guied, good tools for saving batt life, and possibly a cashe to cashe script or simular for the droid? I would really appreciate it, thanks so much in advance.

Well, if anyone else has the same issue, I fixed my issues by partitioning my SD card with a swap partition and utilizing swapper 2 to use it. I turned off compucashe, and used the setting in autokiller to speed up r/w speeds on the SD card. I also set autokiller to optimal. I found Chevy's lv .125-.900 works well, I uninstalled setcpu, and set my Max speed @ .600, my min. @ .125 and I'm using the ondemand, scheduler because smartass and interactive seemed to be laggy. the phone runs snappy but battery life still leaves much to be desired, still experimenting with it.

There is so much wrong with this post. I can't explain right now, but you have my word I will tomorrow.

The swap is working, I'm not having mem issues, if I can figure out how to keep my phone from booting while charging and/or how to get it to boot with out the batt so I can recal I think my problems would be solved

Trying to speed up phone

I have a mytouch 3g running CM6 and I have compcache on hit on and vm size is 24mb dithering is off. I have nothing on my home screen and I get a benchmark score of 3.6 MFLOPS. CPU is overclocked at 576 MHz with setcpu.
Any ways to help speed it up. I can't go the swapfile route cuz I have a class 2 card.
Moved as not Development.

CM6.... A1 or A2?
A1 was a turd.
A2 is wickedly fast.
Be sure to enable compcache and disable dithering in Settings --> CM --> Performance.
On rc2 and its worse now and I keep running out of memory like 3. Mbs available.
Already have compcache on and dithering off

lbcoder, do you recommend JIT?

Only to those who understand both its benefits and drawbacks.
Recently had a wifi problem that made my phone stuck in a boot loop. Had to downgrade back to cm 5.0.8, it's waaay faster and idk why.

I read compcache is killing RC2. Through personal experience, this may actually be. Or it could be my phone. For some reason, my myTouch HATES Froyo ROMs. 100% SLOW. I can wipe and reflash a few times and it seems to catch hold, but it would die after a while as in my phone would get to homescreen and freeze. All times compcache has been enabled. But, as I said, my myTouch does just hate Froyo.
The mytouch can probably handle froyo, just needs tweaking or a better overclock. I wish I could find a working kernel to OC PAST 578. Just barely more would be enough

3.6 MFLOPS is a good score, I'd be happy with that. If you want it to run better, buy a new phone.
It showed that score but was always running like a snail.

I've got a G1, and top at about 2.5MFLOPS, maybe 3-4 with JIT on. Our phones just weren't made for the full power of android, sadly.

Droid is slow and freezes.

So I rooted using easyroot. Installed rom manager. Flashed cyanogenmod on and setcpu. My phone has gradually gotten slower and slower. I've always wiped data and cache between flashes. I'm using chevyno1s low voltage 1.25 kernel. I was originally using bekit 1ghz. It runs nice after a new rom but contrary to what I read the longer a rom is on my phone the more broken it gets. Help me out. If you need more info let me know.

Bump. Sorry.
Delete this. I solved it. Taskiller sucks. Made my Droid perform like it was a Nokia.

Help overclocking

Can someone please help me figure out the best settings for set CPU I just rooted my friends d1 last night and installed the miui Rom and he loves it but I have a hero and I'm not sure what the best settings are for set CPU

Try 250 min and 800-1100 (depending on kernel) and on demand for governer. I turn my gps off and am using lfy1.95 for my rom and my battery last about 9 hrs with lots of web, angry birds, twitter and sms, news widget.

I have a d1 and I'm OCd to 1.2gHzand my battery lasts the better part of a day with plenty of texting, phone calls, internet and gameboid. It is a lil unstable when too many apps are running in the background however. Btw I just noticed you said you had a hero. If so, you might wanna post your question in the HTC hero forum. Just a heads up for ya.

the question was about a droid not a hero

My droid runs good at 250 min and 700-1000 max. If it gets hot, which it likes to, I have setcpu set to scale it back to 600.
I'm using a P3 kernel, 125-1000. I have min at 125 and max at 900, interactive. Battery life is great, heat is great and runs great. (lot of greats, but that is Miui).

what is the best setting for Droid Overclock

There are different settings, Ondemand, Performance, etc. What should it be set to to get best performance and does the Set to Boot box be check marked off?
You mean XOOM overclock, right?
interactive is more responsive and use a Tad more resources than ondemand. For the XOOM being dual core interactive is fine. On demand requires a signal to increase speed whereas interactive just does it. I wouldn't set at boot until you know your settings are perfect. Set at boot sets the speed at boot rather than having to go in and raise or adjust speeds.
1.5 ghz and interactive work wonders for me.
Lol I'm probably the only one but I love performance/start on boot. My batt still lasts days and I never have to worry about touching a thing.

U leave it in performance at all times and u still have battery life for days? That's amazing.

Lol I thought so too. I work 50+ hrs a week though so I play with it once, maybe twice a day, for a Max of a couple of hours.

SDcard speed increase

Have you seen this thread yet? The change worked great on my Legend with CM7RC4. It increased Write speed by 25% and more than doubled the read speed. Maybe something to include in the ROM settings?
Or you can use the SD Speed Boost from Market.. An app for setting the value..

Thanks for sharing! I'm gonna try it out first thing tomorrow, hehe

Yes, i use it for 2 days. Write 8mb, read 22mb for my 8gb sd card.

Nice findig, indeed. Seems that 2048 works best for me. You might feel it while browsing pix or music.

I was lazy and grabbed SD speed booster from market. It worked nicely according to SD tool (roughly 60% increase in read speed and maybe 20% write), though I can't really say I noticed much of a difference myself.
Works great. Haven't tried it for too long but at least photo gallery seems smoother so it seems to actually do something. I just wonder why the default setting is so low. If someone at XDA can figure this out, surely Google or HTC can as well.
