Hard boot key sequence -save your thumbnail! - Motorola Droid Bionic

Don't see any topics relevant to Motorola phones, so this might be a novel discovery. I have no way of checking other models, but for the Bionic you hold vol-up, vol-down and power for ten full seconds and you're in the low-level recovery! If you let go just right, you'll release the volume-up button last, otherwise just press it and - full normal boot.
No more battery pulls if you're deving or find a truly badly behaved program...

[TUT] Installing new custom ROM using phone

In this guide i am going to explain you how to install a custom ROM using phone.
You need PC just to copy ROM on memory card, nothing more, nothing less.
First thing you need to do, is to check do you have Hard-SPL installed on your XPeria X1, follow next two steps to check that.
1. Turn off you phone.
2. Hold volume down button and PRESS AND HOLD POWER BUTTON, hold these two buttons pressed until three-colored screen shows up.
If in top left corner of the screen shows
"SPL-0.72.OliNex" (or what version you have)
That's important, if that is not shown, DO NOT CONTINUE!
POWER button will not work, so remove cover and battery, and put it back on.
Install ROM :
1. Power on phone
2. Connect your XPeria X1 to PC in Disk Drive mode.
3. Transfer the custom ROM you want to install on ROOT of memory card and make sure that it's named "kovsimg.nbh" (Sometimes when you download custom ROM, there will be several files in that ZIP/RAR you downloaded, but you only need ".nbh" file, and if that ".nbh" file is named "ruu_signed.nbh" rename it to "kovsimg.nbh")
4. Disconnect phone from USB, and shutdown phone.
5. Hold volume down button and PRESS AND HOLD POWER BUTTON, hold these two buttons pressed until three-colored screen shows up.
6. Three-colored screen will stays for one or two second, and then there will be a message on screen
"KOVSIMG.nbh - "
"OS - "
"Press the power button to start the update image"
"Press Action button to cancel update image"
PRESS POWER BUTTON, and installation begins.
7. When it reaches 100% it will say "UPDATE SUCCESSFULL". Again, POWER BUTTON will not work, so remove cover and battery, and put it back on, but don't power on phone.
8. (IMPORTANT) I strongly reccomend to HARD RESET PHONE BUT BEFORE YOU EVER BOOT IT!
9. Hard Reset - (Phone is off) Press two buttons below screen (left and right) and hold it, and press the power button UNTIL VIBRATE, then release the power button, BUT STILL HOLD TWO BUTTONS BELLOW THE SCREEN (IMPORTANT)
10. It's shown "This operation will delete all your personal data and reset all the settings to the manufacturer default settings, press "R" to restore manufacturer defaults or press "X" to cancel." Slide keyboard and press "R" wait for a few seconds, and it will show "Restore completed press Space to restart" so press space and slide in keyboard.
You have successfully installed your first custom ROM, now align screen and set date & time, and that's it. First time, it will take three to four minutes to boot, that's called "Cold Boot"
another great thread
"9. Hard Reset - (Phone is off) Press two buttons below screen (left and right) and hold it, and press the power button UNTIL VIBRATE, then release the power button, BUT STILL HOLD TWO BUTTONS BELLOW THE SCREEN (IMPORTANT)"
this step is extremely important. i messed up the first time and my phone was noticably slow lol.

Thank you again yeaah, i messed up the first time also, becase it wasn't explaint very well
I have to say I liked the "Task 29" thread better. A lot of information here is redundant. In principle both threads describe the same process (SD card flashing).
Only this one is Task 29 short (which suposedly is important in flashing).
I expected this thread to describe the USB flashing method, which is in fact different. But it's more-or-less the same really... with more detailed naming descriptions... but minus Task 29.
The other thread has the potential to be a complete guide to SD flashing. Only steps missing is Hard-SPL - if it hasn't been done already. This one - less so.

Okay, there is maybe redundant information, but i wanted to people know what exactly will phone show, and exactly what to do! Little more information won't harm, but a half-explained instruction may lead to some errors...
problems after installing custom rom on htc dsire
Hi there Description: I’m even scared to write… Description:
Newbie Noobie here. Greetings!
Got myself a birthday present a few days ago – HTC Desire.
If it helps, here are the details:
======
Firmware version: 2.2
i rooted my phone and then followed the steps to install custom rom
Anyway, here’s my problem (there were posts about it before as well).
Once I reach point 5 in Step 2 [i.e. Turn off your phone & turn it back on holding POWER + VOL DOWN then use vol up/down to scroll down to ‘Recovery‘ and power to select.] after I click ‘Recovery’ my screen either stays white with the green HTC logo or just goes black – in either case, that’s it… nothing happens and no buttons work.
The first time it happened I almost got a heart attack (well, which noobie didn’t?) because I thought I’d just bricked my baby… Right now it is still the only way for me to do ANYthing after getting the black screen…
Any suggestions/help will be more than welcome! Thanks in advance!!!
(And sorry for the long post… I always need long intros and all the details listed to make myself as clear as possible)
Please do help me
i am nearly crying while typing it
email me the response
cheers

I have never used HTC Desire, i am XPeria X1 user... but my guess is that you do not need to go to recovery mode, i meen on my XPeria i just enter bootloader mode (Volume down + power) and ROM load itself... This tutorial is about XPeria, so... maybe you should post your problem to HTC Desire thread... Good luck... let us know what was the problem

help!! how to revert rooted nook color back to factory state?

hey guys, hopefully someone can help me.
I've successfully rooted my nook color, but I want to revert back to the factory state. There are instructions in nookdevs.com/Flash_back_to_clean_stock_ROM on how to do it. But I can't for the life of me, interrupt the boot eight times. At most it's only once and no matter what I do, on the second time around it shows the boot screen.
I tap the the power button, once I see the "future of reading" words, I hold on the power button and it blinks and show me the words again. Which is good right? Then I release and hold the pwr button again ( I tried keeping my finger holding it), both ways on the 2nd time it would show the splash screen.
What am I doing wrong? thanks!

I'm a little confused by what you're describing, but you don't have to interrupt the first splash screen (touch the future...). Interrupting the "n" screen, and, I believe, the following boot animation will also do the trick. Unless you're bootlooping, just keep powering down before it boots all the way up, and it should restore.
or use this script here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=879922
Thanks for the replies guys! The reason I go with the script is cause I lost my microSD card and I can't boot off of it to run adb so I'm stuck using the manual method.
Maybe I'm mis-interpreting the instructions on nookdevs.com/Flash_back_to_clean_stock_ROM incorrectly ...
1. Power off the nook.
2. Tap the power button.
3. As soon as Welcome to the future of reading appears, hold the power button down to interrupt the boot process.
-If the boot animation does not appear, add 1 to your interrupted boot count.
-If the boot animation DOES appear, your interrupted boot count is reset to zero. Start over.
Steps 1 and 2 I gots, thankfully For step 3, when do I press and hold the power button, when the words come up or when the "n" shows up? And when do I release and hold the power button again for the 2nd boot count?
thanks again!
I think you're making it more complicated than it needs to be. As soon as you see it powering on, start powering it off. Repeat 8x. Unless you're bootlooping or did something crazy to your boot partition, it oughta work.
Thanks wvcachi. But it is complicated!!
I'm having problems power it off, one the second time around, when I press and hold the power button, nothing happens and it boots all the way. I've tried different times hitting the power button, earlier, and all the time it boots through all the way.
maybe you can try and see if you can do it 3-4 times, and let me know when you start pressing the button and release for each iteration? I know it sounds stupid but seriously I can't get it
You have to hold the power button for nearly ten seconds. As soon as you see it powering on, start holding power again (to power it off) and don't let go until it's off.

Agreed...
1. Power off the nook.
2. Tap the power button.
3. As soon as Welcome to the future of reading appears, hold the power button down to interrupt the boot process.
Repeat...
I don't understand though... If you are looping it should reset itself. If it will boot use adb and just set the counter to reset or terminal on the device and type...
Code:
echo -n -e "\x08\x00\x00\x00" > /rom/devconf/BootCnt
1. HOLD POWER UNTIL IT COMES ON
2. LET OFF POWER BUTTON 3 SECONDS
3. HOLD POWER BUTTON UNTIL OFF
4.REPEAT 8 TIMES!
simple enough, for most humans.
I just press the power button and keep holding it down while it starts booting. Works for me.

An even faster way is the 3 fingers of salute.
Hold down power button, fractions after hold down volume up and fractions after the n button. Keep those 3 down until you see the reset screen. Worked for me.

I tried it over and over for about half an hour and couldn't get it to shut down after the third boot. It seemed to ignore the power button after the first or second time I rebooted. I tried many different variations on timing, but nothing worked. People are saying to wait for the N, instead of "the future of reading," which I didn't try.

Power Button Reboot; Emulate Battery Pull

I have been stuck in a spot that I needed to use the battery pull emulation of holding the power button down and waiting for a reboot. Mine just does not work! I can have the phone on, press and hold the power button, the 3 second countdown notification appears, and upon reaching 1 second, it just sits there no matter how long I keep the power button depressed without ever rebooting.
I'm posting about this because I've seen many users that are in the same boat as I am, and I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions on how to make this work.
My problem is documented here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40950471
Is this a hardware issue? Does anyone have any ideas for us unlucky few that this very important function does not work for?
I am on stock, odexed, rooted, 64GB dev edition (1.29.1540.3) on AT&T network. I have installed only one mod...homeslice's 'bkbtnmenu.zip' which pushed a Settings.apk over the stock Settings.apk while deleting the stock Setting.odex file. I'm not saying that this mod caused any problems whatsoever...just trying to give detailed information.

I don't know if this will help anything, but here is a logcat.
I started the logcat and pressed power button simultaneously. I held the power button for about 20 seconds, released and stopped log.
Hold it for ten seconds then release.

[Q] WTF!

Just got my new N6, was setting it up, got the system update to 5.1 which I downloaded. Until here, everything seemed fine, however, after installing, I got an error message and since then, all it's doing is "Android is starting..."
Where did I go wrong? Called Moto CS which was a joke! I'll call Expansys from where I got the phone. But there has to be an easier solution.
Anyone? Thanks in advance.
If its the first boot after updating, it might take some time. Else try to factory reset from the recovery.
Turn OFF Nexus > Press and hold Vol Up button + Power button. Use Vol Down button to select Recovery and Power button to choose it. When the Android with Red triangle appears, press and hold Power button and tap on Vol Up. Now choose Factory reset option.
Thank you, but could not turn it off. Trying to power + vol up didn't do anything, however, power + vol down gave the fastboot mode from where I chose recovery, but it said no command was found
I think that means you have no custom recovery. Taken from another site:
"Press and hold the Power key and the Volume up key for around three seconds and then let go of the Volume up key, but keep pressing Power.
You should see the Android system recovery options pop up at the top of the screen. Use the Volume keys to highlight the options and the Power key to select the one you want."
Try this from the recovery screen. I think there is a power off option or maybe a factory reset option.
I'll give it a try and post am update, thank you.
Yeah simply pressing and holding power down then Pressing volume up once while holding power will give you the option to factory data reset. During startup it'll take some time for the first boot, some report 10 mins, be patient.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Holding power and vol up doesn't do anything for me! Why is it doing that?!
It's power and vol down. it boots you into the bootloader and there you can choose functions with vol up and down, and select it with power.
I did the factory reset, but it's still stuck in that same cycle. Called Motorola who advised to ask the merchant for a replacement. I called Expansys (from where I bought it), and was informed that I have to send it in first, then they will determine what the fault is and then I'll get the replacement, seriously?!
I called my AMEX and asked them to handle it.

[SM-T510/T515] 2019 Galaxy Tab A 10.1 Hard Resets

Here's a quick reference for how to reboot and reset your 2019 Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (SM-T510/T515) using the hardware buttons:
Force restart:
- If your device is frozen and unresponsive, press and hold the Volume Down + Power keys simultaneously for more than 7 seconds to restart it.
Boot to Recovery Mode:
- Power off the device
- Press and hold the Volume Up + Power keys at the same time.
- Release both keys when you see Recovery Mode.
Boot to Download Mode:
- Disconnect the USB cable
- Power off the device
- Press and hold the Volume Down + Volume Up keys
- Insert the USB cable
Boot to Safe Mode:
- Power off the device
- Press and hold the Power key.
- When the boot logo appears, release the Power key and then press and hold the Volume Down key.
- Continue to hold the Volume Down key until the device finishes restarting.
- Safe Mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
Since there is no Bixby button, these combinations are different than the Galaxy S10. If you know of additional combinations, please contribute to the discussion below and I'll consolidate here.
If there’s no response on your device or you're stuck in a boot loop, then you might need to wait for the battery to drain. The 2019 Galaxy Tab A 10.1 has a non-removable battery pack, so disconnecting that isn't an option. Hopefully, the system reverts to its normal function with a cold boot. This can take time if the battery has high charge left at time of failure. Depending on how fast your battery drains, this can mean waiting for a few hours to several days.
UPDATE: With the right timing, you can break out of a boot loop into Download Mode...but it's tricky:
Insert USB Type C cable connected to your PC
Press and hold the Power and Volume Down keys for exactly 7 seconds (hard reset)
Release the Power key and press and hold both Volume Up & Down keys (enter Download Mode)
If you don't see the blue bootloader unlock warning screen, keep repeating the above two steps
The trick here is that you're trying to time your switch to the Download Mode keys for the exact moment the hard reset takes effect. If you see the boot logo while still holding the first key combination, it's too late. If you switch too early, you won't trigger the hard reset.
I've had to hold down both volume up and volume down while plugging in usb to get the unlock screen to populate. Canadian Wifi variant.

Thanks, that was an error in my initial post. I was figuring these out by trial and error, but it turns out that our hard resets are basically the same as for the Galaxy M30, which also uses the Exynos 7904 SoC and has no Bixby key.

UPDATE: Also the same as for the Galaxy A30 and some others.

Yes, I did the same way
US version
1. Enable OEM Unlock
2. Turn the tablet off and unplug the cable
3. Press and hold both volume up and volume down buttons and plug USB cable to host computer
4. You will get wipe screen. Long press volume up to unlock the bootloader.
Now I have to find matching ROM and patch the boot.img and flash.
I believe you have to disable Vault Keeper to keep root intact.

Took a few photos and no problems again. Put it on the side still on near 90% and went back to it 30 minutes later completely off and won’t turn back on, tried charging it nothing no sign of life, tried rebooting it and still nothing.
