How to customize menu behavior - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I've seen this in other Androids and I'm wondering if i can do the same with the i9000,
When I have, for example, 3 menus, i change from the 1st to the 2nd, then 3rd, then it stops
What i want is for it to go from the 3rd back to the 1st, can this be done on the i9000?
This applies to the home screen and to the applications menu
Also, can I set the application menu to scroll horizontally instead of vertically?
Thanks

Yes u can choose different launcher from market...like Launcher pro or Adw launcher.

More Home screens

Anyone know of a profile or hack to get more home screens? Every apps I've tried ass something, mainly a new app tray or buttons at the bottom of the screen. I just want more home screens, nothing more.
Your going to have to use a home replacement such as launcher pro or adw and yes they will usually change the launcher
You may be able to keep it at the vanilla launcher via options.

How to use widgets?

Hello,
I am new to this whole rooting Nook color thing. I recently rooted mine and have been enjoying the new abilities, but I cant seem to add shortcuts to the "desktop" or home screen and can't add widgets. I searched around for a little bit but didn't really see anything listed about this..
Thanks guys
Long-press (hold) on the home screen. A window to "Add" will pop up. Tap on Widgets and enjpy

Thats what I tried, because I am used to using Android for my phone. But the only options that come up are "Clean up this panel" and "Change Wallpaper".
Not sure why I would have different options than you?
What launcher are u using? Also long press should do it!

Just the stock one. I rooted it but didn't know I had to change the launcher. I am not even sure how to do that >_> haha
Go to Market and download a launcher. Zeam, ADW and Launcher Pro seem to be the most popular. I think Market is under Extras.
edit: I use ADW but they are all similar.
Also if you want examples of how to spice up your homescreen, check out the screen shot thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=860404
Most of them include which widgets they are using.
Thanks I downloaded Zeam and its working great!

A few questions

Hello,
I bought the Galaxy recently, and changed his rom.
Rom comes with Launchrpro, and I am very satisfied with it.
But I want to stay with the original rom menu (TW). is this possible?
In addition, I want to get the applications menu in folders.is this possible?
Thanks
I don't know which rom you are using but if that rom gives you both option then go to
settings> application> manage application> choose TW> set default (you can clear defaults too)
Hope this works for you.
There are custom roms that offer touchwiz, and you can always install it afterwards too (e.g. From apk found off the forums, or via sgs tools app).
Doc rom kitchen is a great place to start.
The app menu is launcher specific, afaik there aren't any that allow you to arrange your apps into folders, and launcherpro is the only one that lets you hide icons.

Tnx but I know that I can switch to TW.
I want to stay with Launchrpro and replace just the menu like TW.

What menu are you talking about? (screenies would be nice)
The first picture(left) is the menu I want to go back to.
This second picture menu I have now, in the launcherpro
I wish to keep launcherpro because of the comfortable home screens.
That menu is called app drawer a part of the launcher and what you want I believe not possible with launcherpro. If you want the horizontal scrolling + menu in app drawer I mean. You are better off with another launcher. Like ADW launcher or some modified TW.
As near as I can tell, what you are showing in the first pic is the TWLauncher homescreen, while in the second you are showing the App Drawer in LauncherPro.
It is easy to reproduce a similar homescreen in Launcher Pro. On your main screen, just press the button to open your App Drawer (the thing shown in your second picture). The press and hold the icon for an App you wish to put on your homescreen. Your view will switch to your homescreen, with a garbage can at the bottom. Position the icon where you with it, or drop it into the trash and start again. Once you have everything on the first homescreen that you want, go to the second screen, reopen the App Drawer, and add apps just as you did before.
You can control the number of homescreens you have, and which opens by default, from the Launcher Pro Preferences menu.

As you can see if you look closely BOTH pics are app drawer . Look first pic, grey bar down (home screen has it black) and Home button which doesnt exist in the homescreen since there is the Applications button
To OP look what I wrote you up . Or you could kinda put all yours apps on your homescreen like rschenck said.
Try Go Launcher, free in market. It lets you have the "side swiping" app drawer/menu

Quite right, my bad...been a while since I used the TWLauncher.
OP, are you asking to be able to horizontally scroll through apps, or to have buttons for Phone and other key tasks on the same page as all your apps?
I am still thinking that you can either jury rig a solution using Pro, or as Pagot suggests, try other launchers, there are lots of good ones out there...ADW, Pro, GO, Zume, plenty of others.

[Q] Locking the homescreen layout

Not sure if I'm overlooking something simple or whether the feature doesn't exist but is there a way to lock all the widgets in place once you have got your homescreen set out the way you want it? I'm sick of keep accidentally moving or deleting stuff when I drop my phone in my pocket before the screen has turned off.
I know there is an option in CM7 to do this but is it something that is a native android function or is it something that ROM devs would need to incorporate? I've tried searching for something that does it on the market but I just get swamped with lockscreen apps, and not screen locking.
Hi!
I'm using CM7 + Go launcher EX. Locking home screen layout can be done by pressing menu button (while you in home screen) -> more -> lock screen.
CM7 default launcher have same functionality, as far as i remember.
regards.
Yeah, I know it's available in CM7 but I prefer the sense interface so that's why I was wondering if this is something unique to CM7 or whether it is hidden somewhere within all android systems.
It's a functionality of the Launcher. CM7 uses ADW Launcher, you could install this on your sense ROM.
Yes is launcher... ADW or Go launcher...

You have to use 3rd party launchers to lock the screen...Try using Go launcher...
OK, thanks for the replies.

Go launcher, delete All, Recent

Hi, i have go launcher ex
Can we delete/remove the button ALL, RECENT .. in the appdraw ?
i think that's useless
Yes, you can. In GoLauncher Settings go to App drawer settings and untick "App Drawer Tab: Show/Hide tab row".
This is only possible in the "newer" versions (maybe 3-4 months), so if you use an old version, you need to download the update.
