Hey,
I would like to know if it is possible to install Ubuntu native on the HP Touchpad. I know it can run as Chroot, but I prefer it as native. What would we have to do to get it even booting? Aother kernel to let it boot into ubuntu right? Maybe we can install Windows 8 or CE7 after it? Of course I can help testing things.
I'm sure you could if you wanted too. It's on the possible list.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ARM/TabletList
An idea how to get started?? What to do with the bootloader or something like that. What tells the device what to boot? If we change that it could be vert simple, because after booting and things like that the only thing left would be some drivers.
As for the bootloader moboot has been ported to the touchpad along with CM7. Just as you said it's pretty much about drivers now, and other few minor things.

Is there actual driver support for the touchpad with ubuntu?
How would one go about installing it with moboot?

Hey guys i was doing some thinking and i really want to be able to run honeycomb and ubuntu on my nook color there has to be a way to install them and then when you power on it gives you the option to boot into android or linux i have ubuntu running on my nook now with honeycomb but im running it threw vnc and it stopped working says connection refused!!! why idk but im fed up with it it did it on my EVO 3D to and got the same error once i rebooted my phone even ran su bootubuntu in terminal before i tryed connecting i am willing to donate $50 to $100 for a developer who can make this happen i have developer skills just not good enough to pull this off please post back let me no if its possible if it is please put up a GUIDE and step by step instructions your time and work is greatly appriciated and i hope somone can make this happen this will be HUGE!!!
You will never have a full working version of Honeycomb as Google will not release the source code.
thats fine i can deal with the beta but i wanna be able to switch between bolth
Why not just use cm7. As honeycomb and Ubuntu will probably never leave the proof of concept stage.

So I rooted my friends touchpad about two months ago and installed CM7 on it. It's running dual boot Cm7 and webOS. I wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of making everything like stock again. My friend wants to get her touchpad fixed because their's a crack on the frame.

You need to run ACMEUninstaller. You do it the same way you did ACMEInstaller to install CM7 but, of course, you don't need any files in the /cminstall directory when you run it.
edit: That should satisfy any warrantee issues but if you want to be extra careful you could make it "factory fresh" by re-installing webOS. But make sure you run ACMEUninstaller first to get rid of the Android partitions.
Is it possible to wipe webos completely off the touchpad and just have CM9. I don't want to have duo boot. i want to start my touchpad and have it boot straight to CM9. Thanks,
No, the android builds need webos to boot properly. And this has been asked many times before.

So nothing changed with CM9? I don't know how much you know of this, but I was curious as well. Especially when they said that a single-boot option was coming "soon". That was when CM9 A.0 got dropped. Honestly mboot is just a trashy middleman and I'd like to remove all of this crap if possible.
You can change the timeout of moboot to 1 second (not sure if 0). The cyboot package in preware can change it, or I'm sure there are some adb commands to change it. webOS takes very little space. And without hardware video decoding space shouldn't be a concern.
I like having a fall back OS. Plenty of times installing a ROM that doesn't remove the old ROMs moboot entry I have been stuck with boot failures on everything, and the only way I know to fix that is in webOS.
I honestly cannot think of a legitimate reason for this. A 5 second delay is hardly a burden, and whatever space is left over after plenty of webOS apps has always been way more than enough for me.

Out of curiosity, where did you hear that? I've never seen that mentioned on twitter, and I just verified its not on the rootzwiki page for CM9.

You know, I may have made that up. I swear they said something, but all I could find was that a tri-boot was coming "soon". My bad. Honestly, it's not that I'm worried about space, I just have an OCD for throwing out the trash. I'm like the opposite of a hoarder. So, if I'm not using it, at all, might as well get rid of it. I like the idea of just running a 100% Android, no filler. I don't need a camera, and I don't need skype. I'm not using Netflix at the moment, and I can't remember the last time I booted webOS for anything. Why have it, you know?
I get that. I'm the same way about apps, emails, icons on my desktop etc.
I used webOS again today. Had classicnerd installed, and went to install the KSM. KSM gave boot failure in moboot, and classicnerd gave boot loop. I had to delete the uImage for both (using internalzpro in webOS), wipe data, cache, dalvik, and install again to get it working. This seems to happen to me every time I go from one ROM to a different one. And I do that weekly as everything gets updated. Maybe its because I have TWRP and CWM installed, so the boot space is full ... I don't know. But if I can't boot into android and can't use adb, so webOS is the only option. Maybe I should webOS doctor the device back to stock and start over.

I don't ever actually use webOS as anything other then a default recovery system (and never have used it!)
I recommend rebooting into the webOS recovery and using ACMEUninstaller, then put your new files back on the SD card and reinstall CM9. Unless something is very messed up with the webOS partition itself (which would be very uncommon) I have found webOS doctor is generally not needed.
Initially I wanted to only have CM7/9 on my touchpad, but after using it for a while I have found quite a few occasions where I have needed to just start over with problems from android. WebOS has been a nice fallback for getting in and out of recovery and seeing how it uses almost no space I came to the conclusion that even if it is possible to remove it, it acts almost like a factory recovery for android simply by being there.

Sorry if I'm hijacking this thread, but I was wondering if anyone was able to successfully get adb to recognize their Touchpad. I just installed CM9 on mine and would like to remove AOKP and a bricked kernel from moboot. Any suggestions?

Internalzpro in webOS (preware package) enable master mode in settings, navigate to /boot/ and delete the offending uImage.[name] files. As I said previously this function is the only reason I ever blog into webOS. You can also rename the moboot entries by renaming the file's extension.
Or ... you can try the commands in a terminal emulator right on the device.

So, will using WebOS doctor overwrite Android and Moboot? Im supposed to be selling this thing today and I can't scrub android off using any of the usual methods. Additionally, the only time I can ever get the thing to connect to a device is when im using a mac and there is scarce information regarding removing webos when using a mac.
Either way, I want to WebOS doctor this thing but I dont want a brick. Please let me know!

When I Doctored my touchpad android was not overwritten, but I had to reinstall moboot with Acmeinstaller.
In webos you can get a remove android patch in preware, though I don't know how it works. I've just read about it.

You need to use ACMEUninstaller to remove Android. After that, you can use wevOSDoctor to reinstall webOS. But I don't think even that will remove your user info from webOS. I think you have to clear the cache to do that.
I bought my TP used and it took me awhile to learn how to clear out the previous owner's accounts.

So, let me clarify: using the webos doctor does not overwrite the android partitions but will erase the bootloader and any settings on the webos partition?

I'm sorry, but you aren't going to get rid of Android any other way. You might try re-installing Android via ACMEInstaller and then running ACMEUnistaller but one way or another you've got to get the uninstaller to work.

Hi I've used Remove Android it will only clean all android related files from boot.
ACMEUninstaller is the only simple method .
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Nexus7/Installation
Been reading a bit about this on the web, but have not seen much of it here on XDA. Wondering who has tried this? How hard is it? Would you be able to run the installation from a LiveCD, or do you have to have a Linux box in order to do it?
Hopefully a LiveCD will work. I had an Ubuntu laptop, but had to install Win7 to it so that I can interface with my bike's ECU. The tuning software only runs under Windows...
It is a novel idea, running a desktop OS on the tablet, making it more like a laptop that fits in your pocket, rather than a phone OS with a larger font for the larger screen.
Anyone brave enough to take the plunge? It is supposed to be reversible, simply run one of the "Nexus Toolkit" apps to reflash back to stock...

did you get this to work? i've got ubuntu installed on an external hdd but it won't boot...just auto-boots the internal rom after ~10s.
Got Ubuntu installed and running using multirom. Look at the link suggested above......I don't use external HDD as I can just install and boot from internal storage without effecting the android ROM.

i did follow those instructions and it works up until i want to actually boot to ubuntu. i get the multiboot screen and when i go to USB, it should refresh and allow me to boot to ubuntu, but instead it craps out and boots the internal rom instead.
edit: slowly working up to 10 posts so i can post in the dev thread for help lol

Someone needs to make a flashable for this. Unfortunately my Ubuntu pc setup wont recognize my internet/tether setup, therefore i cant install with the specified process. Guaranteed to be a big hit if its made into a flashable. So whats the input on it? Good, bad, OK?

Yeah, a flashable would be ideal I think, and just install it like any other ROM through TWRP. Is that possible? Is it as simple as someone doing a clean, barebones install, and then making a Nandroid or something and zipping it up, and then others can download and "restore" it?
If it were a clean install, no apps, factory wipe before the install, no gmail account setup, etc... Would that work? I mean, the hardware is all identical, so as long as there is no personal apps or data, I would think that it could work, no?
Question is, who is brave enough to try it. haha
Yes it can be done and I'm extremely surprised it hasn't been yet. It may be too buggy or early yet.
