I have not been able to find or enable swype on the Thrill. i like swype and would love to be able to use it. Also the voice button in text messages, where is that?
Thanks.
Nevermind.
Well i feel like a noob, and well kind of am partly. Been an iphone user for years and the infuse was my first droid. had issues with it, and my 30 days was coming to a close so i got the thrill.
Kinda sad i couldnt wait any longer and get the sgs2. oh well.
anyways i pulled the swype apk from the infused 2.1 rom and it installed fine.
thanks gtg465x for putting together a great rom for the infuse. cant wait to see what you do with the thrill.

Best to learn and experiment within your 30 days. It's easy.
with the exchange i did from the infuse, my 30 days is up tomorrow
You can get Swype beta if you register with them. I am using it to type this message on my thrill.

like i said, i just pulled the swype.apk from the infused 2.1.0 rom and it works great. and i do love the sprint keyboard. the others were crap. in my opinion all keyboards no matter what the input method need 1-0 along the top, not like a messed up numpad.
You might try Touchpal. I didn't like swipe at all. But Touchpal runs like swipe and I love it. It's also a really good non-swipe type keyboard also all with prediction.
Ultra Keyboard will let you use swipe type input. It is my default keyboard.I have not tried Touchpal Keyboard, but it is free and also has swipe input.

I just thought I'd mention this even though its a little off topic, but I love my Touch now with 2.2 on it. It does absolutely everything I ever wanted a phone to do, the app market is full of awesome and useful apps, super stable, and my god, the battery life is out of this world. I only wish it had a glass capacitive screen to be a little more scratch resistant and finger friendly. I'd never get rid of it when my contract is up next March if it had that.
I wanted to give a shout out to all the devs and dedicated testers to put the Vogue back on the cutting edge.

Incubus RLS9. But not for any good reason really. It was just the last 2.2 I installed and called it perfect at that point. I've probably flashed my phone 30 times so I needed to find something that worked and stick with it before I wore out the NAND.
I'm considering buying a cheap used Touch to try this out instead of the phone I am using now on Sprint. How well does Android work on the Touch? Are there any downsides or things that don't work? What's the battery life like?
Thanks!

You should try it.
Everything works except for camcorder. Battery lasts a full day easily.
What's your current phone?
believe it or not I am running 2.1 because it allows me to send mms on sprint. RLS3 allowed me to but something changed in the other builds and I cant mms anymore.

Just keep in mind the screen is small and text input without the stylus can be annoying in portrait mode sometimes. But other than that, ace has it right. Everything works cept camcorder though I never used that myself so I don't care.

I'm running the themed release10 with the new NBH file and I LOVE it. Other than the GPS (verizon issue...) it's perfect. I am very grateful that people are spending the time to make this phone so much better!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dude don't give up. The gps on vzw is fixable. Have you tried the fix listed in the faq thread. Worked for me. Sry for the punctuation my touch pro kbd isn't working all the way in xdandroid.

I am currently using a Palm Treo 755p so I am completely new to this. In terms of functionality, what is the difference between running it from the SD card and doing the NAND method. The SD install seemed pretty straightforward and the NAND version seemed more complicated. I am pretty tech savvy but have never installed a new OS on a mobile phone before. Can anyone provide a link to a simple straightforward instructions for installing via NAND? Also, which release should I be installing? I see people talking about more than one.
Thanks so much for your help!
Awesome. I'm getting a used touch [$50 ftw] for Froyo on it. Thanks a lot to everyone who posted.
Just a small thing, does SMS work as it should? I'm pretty much intending to make the Touch my No.1 phone, and SMS is a major factor. So, all apps work, including Wi-Fi? Impossible.

Yeah, I've been testing Vogue roms for quite some time now. 2.2 is easily the best on the vogue. The improvements made to the OS made the whole thing faster and more efficient. Battery life is through the roof comparatively as is speed.

You are the one who is interested in this. Make a Backup, install your theme, if it works great, if not, just restore to your back-up. There is no fear of bricking your device. Dont be expecting people to just install things to see if they work for you. This is a community everyone should contribute!
Thats awsome logic, however i have no knowledge of how to even make a backup, much less get a successful one. Ill be the first to admit, too, that im not very android savvy yet when it comes to the mod scene, and if something messes up, the forums would explode with me asking questions on how to fix my phone. Im also not going to loose my job because I have to explain to my boss that I bricked my phone because I wanted to make it look different. Im not a developer, im a user, and i cant afford to blindly walk in to something without knowing side effects.

You dont need to be a developer to do this. I recommend you check out the PMC (Pimp My Captivate) guide posted in the general sections for the captivate. Also, if your new to the mod world and xda in general, I will be the first to say welcome. We have a great community of moders, users, and developers here who are extremely helpful. Most questions probably have been asked, and answered already. Use the Forums search feature to see if it has been, or if you want to learn how to do something search it, there are a TON of guides on the forums about moding and developing!
For making a backup you can do this, by going to the Android Development Section, and Reading the ClockworkMod Custom Recovery
its simple and easy for making sure you never brick your phone!
got me curios ill do it. reply when i get home.....
ok it installs fine over TwLauncher but not launcherPro. now you just have to find some themes that are made for 2.1 eclair rom. most of what i found was for CyanogenMod. don't know anything about this mod but i hope this helps some one. i now think this is of intrust to me too. so if we could get a captivate tut for this thing (past instillation) like actual installing of themes that would be great thanks.
Yea metamorph works fine some times it bugged out with ADW when I first start up the phone but other than that metamorph works great. I'm using the evo blackbar mod.

I second that. I installed it over Touchwiz and LauncerPro and I didn't see one change that it made. The only metamorph change that has actually ever worked for me is the Evo black bar mod.

I'm in the Swype beta, and I've used it in the past, but it can be a pain in the ass to get working after changing roms, so I generally use the LatinIME board. All things considered though, Swype kicks ass once you get used to it.
I'm using it now & it's nice but yeah you do have to get used to it but after you should be good to go. Once you get used to it you'll notice your texting & typing will become a lot quicker
For those of you who use the touch (non swiping) keyboards I'd recommend trying out SwiftKey.
I used swype almost since the beta was first released and never thought I'd switch. But after using the SwiftKey beta for about a week - back when it was still in Beta - it changed my mind.
The predictive text works really well and there's a lot less movement compared to swype.
But out of the two options the OP listed, I'd definitely go for swype. No question

Personally I prefer the GB keyboard. I've used both. I can type very quickly with the GB keyboard. Swype and the HTC keyboard are tied for second.

In my opinion, I think Swype is really good but. I think the HTC keyboard is really good, but since I found the ginger bread keyboard I think its awesome. On the other hand, there are some tweaks that I want but ill wait till the next generation keyboard

Yeah I think swype is the best too but if you do try it I would back it up with titanium & make sure it's installed on the phone cuz just like someone said earlier with the chronic flashing we do especially with switching roms it will disappear on you & if it's not on the internal memory it will go bye bye when you reboot or unplug your phone via USB ...learned from experience it was a drag -____-

I don't think its a rom issue, its more the way they have you go about installing it.

I like swype tried swiftkey (i found somewhere) it's cool killing the gb keyboard. But swype is where it's at but it runs out ( mental note to self use apk manager to hack swype to stop running out of time) of time.
You know, I just reinstalled swype, and had no troubles with it. They seem to have changes the way the installer functions. I even had issues installing this on stock unrooted Sense.

if you've never used swype your texting on the GB/original rom keyboard will be A LOT faster
BUT
once you get used to swype and gain some experience with it under your belt you'll see that your texting/typing will be A LOT LOT faster than the keyboard
my first week of using swype i saw a noticable difference in speed for the better....but believe me that first few days i was so frustrated with swyping lol
Is it possible to deodex this SWYPE, it's the one containing French Canadian QWERTY keyboard, so I can include it in the ROM I use?

i wont give up my atrix, unless it was for a galaxy s2 or similar. i love the webtop/laptop and the phone feels faster to me. no lag whatsoever, except the lockscreen. the downside is its locked down tighter than a dolphin's ass, and its not very customizable. but official gingerbread is just around the corner it looks like.
i like it. i dont feel like i need to do anything to it. its rooted, sideload enabled and i can tether. thats all i need. for my flashing addiction i still have a couple of captivates to play with.

All of them have worked for me just fine. I had all 3 of them and wondered why. I was spending more time trying to think of what to put into the short cuts than anything else.
With Gtabsimiclock, I can launch up to 15 apps/folders from it. So that takes care of most what I need.
Of course, I can launch another 10 apps/folder/shortcuts from the Golaucher dock.

Yup. I typed in gtabs and gtabsimiclock was already coming up.
You might try SiMi clock widget. That's what it shows up when you select the gtabsimiclock option.
It's pretty sweet. It's a time/date/battery/wifi widget. Completely customizable and able to launch up to 15 folders/shortcups/apps/etc from it.
If I can figure out how to show up some screen shots I'll do it. I konw that question has been asked and answered ad nauseum. I'll google/search tomorrow.
